A song that could have been written for Geordie, it's bittersweet that he shared his gift for playing the strings on this very tune to remind us of his talent just when we're missing him most. Enjoy the beautiful journey as much as we did your musical gift over the decades.
I drove from Central New Jersey to Rochester, NY and back this weekend and listened to Killing Joke almost the entire drive--this song most of all. Probably ten times total. It's both dreamy and rocking--a great combination.
This song should be a hit. Killing Joke can lay down a thrasher, a new waver, a punker or a rocker at will. Will the rest of the world ever clue in to their greatness ???
Killing Joke doesn't care about hits they've been around for 44 years now and when's the last time you saw a hit by people in their 60s come on man their way deeper than that and always have been
Those of us who have been aware are grateful for such an extensive back catalogue. Those who haven't? It's up to them to open their eyes/ears, otherwise bollox to them.....
I think of bands this good as the hidden reward for daring to delve past the hit parade of top 40 artists. Your point that "Killing Joke can lay down a thrasher, a new waver, a punker or a rocker at will" is excellent.
These guys always wrote music with urgency and put their heart into it and stay contemporary. Yet, still a small following, hopefully bigger than I expect. They have songs that tell the sad truth, and some angers, and some make you just tear up. This is art in the form of Killing Joke. Not Oscar Wilde. These guys taught me a lot. I hope it's not too late for us just yet. Jaz, Geordie and co., the late, great Raven King, Paul Raven, so much love, admiration and respect from some dude here in the States. Take care, fellows.
Haha is the killing joke they talk about dark times and wonderful memories, seems like joke is on those who play blind and deaft . Remember I am the virus , 2020. They saw it coming
Rip Geordie ill see you in Cythera, i cant believe you left us all alone. Im devastated :'( :'( :'( thanx for your kindness. Say hello to Raven. World has lost his greatest guitarist. And one of his last punks
One of the few older bands that can reinvent and adapt their sound without ever feeling dated. Even this song that is over a decade old still feels like it could have been made by a new band today or even a band from the 90's. Timelessness is a great indicator of creativity, IMO, and this song feels like its all encompassing. I love it.
+TheSanveana Same here, just one those tracks that you can't help to listen to over and over - one of their best ever...and that's saying a lot. My then 10-yr old son and I played this album to death on a long road trip a couple of years ago. Unforgettable. Thanks, KJ, love you guys to death.
I unfortunately discovered these guys late in my life. If I heard these guys a long ass time ago, I imagine my guitar playing would have gone in a different direction. I love this band.
Baron Teddy Von Forsthoffer saw them in '80, and have played KJ covers in my old bands through the years. Go back and learn some the old stuff too, aw man never too late to figure out Geordies' ruffs, a shear joy to play KK with the boys. Thanks for the memories...play on man KJ is the best band I've ever heard and see...since 80, met Jazz twice....sorry I play guitar and love playing KJ 35 years later !!!

KJ spent their time in the shadows, for sure, but they are diamonds. Rare are thoses who can buy or wear diamonds, especially big ones. KJ is a big big one, and thoses who listened to Jaz are enlightened forever.
Great comments. Their is a special bond between the purveyors of Killing Joke. Discovered them in 1988 while living on the Central Coast of California.
This is beautiful, those drums are phenomenal, and the voice modulation brings an eerie techno vibe to the track, that rhythm section is chunkaliscious... Killing Joke have done it again!!! wow!
"I'm grateful, For all the times we've shared, Through struggles, And madness, You're there..." Beautiful lyrics, means even more to me because I know Cythera too...
I love how the clip implies many things and shows images related to the lyrics. Especially when Coleman sings "I'm grateful for all the times we shared" and it shows images of the band playing, the same band with whom he has been in a long, long time.

Beautiful song and lyrics. Others have mentioned this, but there are so few bands that are still able to create something this touching so late in their careers. So glad to have found this.

Im looking at this and thinking about crying, its a guy thanking everyone that done him no harm and were friends or enemies that showed him where to go.
It often makes me well up. Now at the age of 51, having been through Punk, Rave, and a whole spectrum of music along the way... I've always eschewed stating a particular favourite band, since there is so much great music of such variety out there. But I suspect Killing Joke are my favourite, having followed them since a teenager. And this might just be the most musically and emotionally perfect piece of music I've ever heard.
Ive loved this band since'80 been my fav still to this day...and my band coveredKJ songs for yrs...was lucky to see them 3 times over the years, including"Ha" which I was ther, and have a giant tat of Jk , got to shake Jazz's hand...last thing he did on stage in Toronto 2 winters ago for the singles tour...okay okay stop me KJ is the best in the world !!!
Magnificent song, MMXII is one of their best studio albums with their 2 eponymous albums and the excelllent Pandemonium. Killing Joke, one of the best bands ever made
Forgive me friends, for leaving you all these years. Only recently I heard and I realized the greatness of Absolute Dissent. Well, I am back here. I am here with you, to celebrate one of the greatest bands of all time. April 21 in Florence. We'll be there, like 25 years ago.
+Luís Meleiro And above the hard music, Killing Joke is using as a peaceful warfare, listening to the texts, against the ever increasing power of the western scientifically and so called democracy based tradition, using an economic system that demands growth culture, and the unfair use of the horrible fruits of the scientific tree (weapons) to engage in an unfair competition between all cultures in the world. Unfair in the sense that a Natural tradition that respects Mother Earth, stands no chance to those weapons to force those cultures to change to the western way. There are still some left, but the way I see it´s a matter of time before also the last one disappear (they are now put in parks), unless the radical change is made that all traditions and worldviews have equal rights to exist and live their culture to the full. But to be realistic, I don´t see there will come changes. And realistic is not the same as depressing. And then there is the issue of the dogma that economy should grow, thereby destructing the (still beautiful but existing in lots lesser quantities) Nature. Let´s hope it´s not too late to turn the tide, but I doubt it. The nice thing about Jaz is that he is also a composer of a totally opposite kind of music: classic music. He worked with lots of famous orchestras and made a considerable tribute. This is Jaz in the nonwar mode, where he contributes to culture in an entirely different way. I like it when a man´s interest in a particular aspect of culture (music) are so different.
+Marco Barbieri , despite the fact of agreeing vs. disagreeing with your comment, which is not relevant anyway, I honestly think you write (or express yourself, to be precise) tremendously well. Beautiful and aggressive, just like the very best of Killing Joke. Great to hear Jaz bringing back his melodic form, a reminder of what a wonderful voice the guy has.
this is great. touched me alot. im a killing joke fan ofcourse. but its different, i dont always expect to be as moved profoundly. it says it all. this is like as profound as a dying mans last words. couldnt have said it better myself.
Love it. Love the fact that Jaz is singing again too. It's deep and layered and wholly original, which is typical of their entire catalogue to be fair.
Well, no. Little Steven's Underground Garage breaks the mold every time. The new tracks are tremendous. What you see on American Idol is just surfaces, not the real thing.
RIP Geordie. I'm grateful for all the times I listened to your music.

Good bye Geordie. We love you
I drove from Central New Jersey to Rochester, NY and back this weekend and listened to Killing Joke almost the entire drive--this song most of all. Probably ten times total. It's both dreamy and rocking--a great combination.
Incredible song. Not many 80’s bands are still releasing music of this quality well into the next millennium. This was 2012.
I would say none have put together such greatness so many decades later.
I only discovered KJ in the last few months. This song is perfection. RIP Geordie. Unique and brilliant. Like the rest of the band. This is perfection

Killing Joke are very underrated in every music scene they have sounded like Post-Punk, Punk, Industrial And Metal.
Most influential band alongside with Queensryche for 40 years.
Also New Wave

I promise to set your place
On the table with wine and fill your cup
And to, ourselves we lie,
As we, break down inside,
'Cause we never, said enough,
How much we really loved.
I'm grateful,
For all the times we've shared.
Through struggles, and madness,
You're there.
I've seen you, in a dream,
On a sunny day, where the skies are clear.
I'll see you, in Cythera,
On an island, far away from here.
I'm grateful,
For all the times we've shared.
Through struggles, and madness,
You're there.
I've seen you, in a dream,
On a sunny day, where the skies are clear.
I'll see you, in Cythera,
On an island, far away from here.
Listening on headphones, that guitar just blasts thu your brain - wonderful
Great... This song has a big New Model Army feeling... Love it...
Absolutely love this track
If this is what the afterlife is like then I'm so happy we have something wonderful to look forward to.
Gratitude as the topic of masterpiece pop song!
An older band thats bringing out more quality good to see
Beautiful and aggressive, just like the very best of Killing Joke. Great to hear Jaz bringing back his melodic form, a reminder of what a wonderful voice the guy has.
For those musicians out there, listen to that hi-hat pattern. Amazing :)
this is great. touched me alot. im a killing joke fan ofcourse.
but its different, i dont always expect to be as moved profoundly.
it says it all. this is like as profound as a dying mans last words.
couldnt have said it better myself.
The video fits this beautiful song..
love this track one of there best
Love it. Love the fact that Jaz is singing again too. It's deep and layered and wholly original, which is typical of their entire catalogue to be fair.
Amazing, fanastic vocals, heavy, deep, chuggy, one of my favourite songs...EVER!!
Amazing!!!
This is beautiful
I agree, absolute gem of a song and band.
i love this track! reminds me of the glory days of killing joke in the mid 80s
Beatifull Song
This would have been a hit in the early nineties. Thank God KJ still makes music in these uninteresting times. It's all safe bland pop nowadays.
Well, no. Little Steven's Underground Garage breaks the mold every time. The new tracks are tremendous. What you see on American Idol is just surfaces, not the real thing.
love this song - except for one thing - it's pronounced Kythera (I know I lived there as a child) - not "Sythera") - RIP Geordie
Great work, can't wait for the album! This band just goes from strength to strength!
Best thing I've seen and heard in a long time - beautiful!
