Killing Joke is the best band on the planet right now. They have been “burning down” the world since the 1980’s 😏 I’m living in the Eighties. I was born it the 1980’s. It’s all I have ever known.
I like this song but it's a far cry from the raw sound of love like blood or 80's. And when you were born in the 80's, then you were a 8-10 year old kid in 1990, so how did you "live" in the 80's? Now i was born in de mid 60's, so i lived in the 80's because i grew up in that decade from a teenager to a young adult, so i lived the nightlife and the 80's to the max because going out was the most important thing to do, so to the disco's and bars we went and it was good because the music was good, and the whole 80's vibes were good, and beer and sigarettes were still cheap and the women were not but had class instead. And even tv was great and we had the best movies ever and the best music ofcourse, so the 80's was the best decade this planet has ever seen, and i'm soooo glad that i grew up in that right moment of all times! From a 14 year old kid to a 24 year old fun loving rebel that loved to go out, drink alot of beer and get laid while our lives were filled with the best music, because we always had the radio on and watched mtv, music box, skytraxx, etc etc. so the music was always there and everywhere.
If Ukraine had been in NATO Russia would never have attacked them. Now all of Europe is having to re-arm and even Finland and Sweden chose to join. NATO is not wonderful, but clearly group protection is sadly necessary. Plato can't protect anyone. Fuck Putin.
Jaz is on record as saying he supports the project of building a European community. That's why he sings about Europe as a civilising force that demands respect. What this song is about is the current betrayal of that project and the need to reform it. Hence the repeated reference to 'Old Europe'. My interpretation is Jaz wants a united Europe as it was originally conceived centuries ago and not the exploitative, neoliberal regime it is currently is.
