I really like how this song makes me feel, it is like everything is lost, however there's still a small light to fight to keep going. It was the last song my stepfather and I heard before he left this world. I love it
This was the last song me and my mum listened to before she died. We did a 13 hour road trip and only had one mixtape and we both loved this song so we listened to it again and again. After she died I couldn’t listen to any other song for a long time, then after a while I couldn’t listen to it anymore ‘cause it made me so sad. It still makes me sad but in a good way and I will love this song with all my heart forever. It feels like it keeps me company when I’m sad or upset
U r mum would be so proud of you. ...I can relate with u a little ..I lost my mum at a very young age as well ...stay strong friend ..godbless....some songs are so special
MjauDuuude my mum died too of cancer, and Radiohead was one of the last bands we heard together...Pablo Honey and Amnesiac, the pyramid song and we felt so connected without words...i still can feel her next to me when im hearing them ! So many emotions ! She had a recover before it got worse,so happy we could spend time together before she was falling in coma...i thank Radiohead for being so emotionally, wish i could meet them and explain what this meant to me ! Hope your fine now,and i can assure you,our mothers will always be deep inside our heart, happy we have this in common, blessings and a hug :)
Andy Biehl Thank you for the empathic words...sometimes a prayer for each other can help, its good to know we can share feelings with each other...exactly that is missed today...we think we are alone...and that is very dangerous for our soul...but we are NOT...i am here ! And you all are here too :)
To me this song is about running away from the fears and anxities caused by other people who have leverage over you...your boss, your coworkers, a significant other, living in fear because you dont live up to others expectations...this is the man running from the car. 'I gave it all he can, but its not enough' Then realizing that other people cant define you, only you can. The guy on the road collaspes from exhaustion, but then confronts the car chasing him, lights the match (with the embryo, signifying he's had this with him his whole life but didnt realize it until now) and starts to live his life on his terms. Not worrying about others' peoples projections. 'For a minute there I lost myself' its easy to forget who you are, when all you care about is the opinion of other people and their projections on to you. Break those chains, determine your own destiny. Thanks Thom
Really good interpretation of this amazing song. I think Radiohead addresses depression and life melechony pretty well.... most of their songs are about being outsiders in society
Was just in jail for a year and this song would constantly get played on the TV on music choice rock hits while we were locked in our cells and I grew to enjoy it very much. It's a really cool set of chord progressions to rot away to..all the way down to the end
Same, I know and love only one song from radiohead, but after watching invincible and really liking this song Im currently listening to more of their works.
Just curious but how old are you? (not an insult i am generaly curious) because its not that many years ago since radiohead was like one of the biggest bands in the world and this were one of their more famous songs
The lyric “for a minute there, i lost myself” is so impactful for me. I have lost myself for awhile but sometimes just for a minute. When my gf and I broke up, I was not in a good place. This song stuck to me for years among others by Radiohead but its this song that just sticks forever. Thank you Thom.
Omg yesss. I love that verse so much it was my very first tattoo. I got it in honor of how I survived the break up with the love of my life. I gave myself to him completely so the breakup was the hardest thing ive been through yet. I lost myself in the relationship. All in. So getting myself back was and continues to be a journey. Still my favorite song.
I'd be honored if some Radiohead fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of HIGH & DRY, as well as VIRTUAL INSANITY by Jamiroquai and BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY by the Verve on my YT channel in tribute to 3 of the greatest 90s bands. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and peace out.
Little aside. I literally spun out my car on an oil patch on a wet road the first time I heard this song on radio. Survived it undamaged other than a slight loss of confidence in my driving skills but it was a moment for sure.
thankyou for making me not the only one who feels nostalgia I never had.... Radiohead makes me reflect on a place that I'm from and it makes me feel like I'm looking around slowly and sometimes making up memories or merging them together
I woke up this morning with the piano part of this song playing in my head. For some reason this song always captures my mood. And I really appreciate the creativity it takes to make an album as special as ok computer.
Nate J I know, like, 6 radiohead songs and by no means deserve to be called a fan, however, those are the songs truly relatable, and I'm not talking about the text... those are the melodies! I guess I'm afraid to immerse deeper, afraid lest I might end the affection
This music video has been ingrained in my memory since teen years, but I just wanna take a step back for a second and appreciate how fucking good it is. The tension, the twist at the end, how perfectly it matches the song, and the technical challenge of that last shot. It's one of the best music videos I've ever seen.
MY FAILURE!? MY FAILURE!? I tore down the gates of my victims and took my glittering prize. Why? Because I WANTED it. And you? You have the world in your very fingers and all you can think to do with it is!"
"For a minute there I lost myself" One of the most beautiful musical phrases I've heard I often feel like the guy running and the guy in the car is my responsibilities "For a minute there i lost myself".... Immortal line !!
Radiohead's ability to tap into our psyche as a species is effortless. Art house anti-nostalgia, non-sentimental music... That they produce world class musicianship + brilliant poetic lyrics in Thom's gorgeous, impossible to replicate vocals is akin to real world wizardry. All culminating in a supremely unique sound, without making the same record twice (similar to Alice in Chains ((Layne years)) [in premise only]).
+Sergio Acuña Your English was not bad. The only serious mistake is that you should have written "I would like to feel what IT is LIKE to hear them for the first time AGAIN." Cheers.
+Pillerparty well there also is a huge difference in their earlier and later works. i am a huge fan of their first three albums, after that i kinda lost interest. they were amazing live back then. when i was 21. too bad you cant experience that anymore.
Lyrics: Karma police Arrest this man He talks in maths He buzzes like a fridge He's like a detuned radio Karma police Arrest this girl Her Hitler hairdo Is making me feel ill And we have crashed her party This is what you'll get This is what you'll get This is what you'll get When you mess with us Karma police I've given all I can It's not enough I've given all I can But we're still on the payroll This is what you'll get This is what you'll get This is what you'll get When you mess with us For a minute there I lost myself, I lost myself Phew, for a minute there I lost myself, I lost myself For a minute there I lost myself, I lost myself Phew, for a minute there I lost myself, I lost myself
I can't believe how this song has mesmerized me in 1997 and all these years later when I listen to it,this song takes me back to every emotion, every feeling, and every thought I experienced all those years ago. It is absolutely magical and marvelous. Rideo head produced a masterpiece of contemporary music.
My interpretation of this video, and the song itself, is the idea of becoming overly vengeful. Of holding spite against people for every little thing they do, even things they can’t help like their ‘Hairdo making you feel ill’ or ‘Buzzing like a fridge’. The singer wants the ‘Karma Police’ to catch up with everyone he holds these grudges against, hence the video being the relentless chase of a perfectly average guy for seemingly no reason. It’s letting yourself fall into a cycle of anger and losing yourself to spite you can’t let go of. And you’re just in the backseat, letting these intrusive thoughts take the wheel. By the time the singer wakes up and realises ‘For a minute there, I lost myself’, karma begins to catch back up with him, following the destructive path he’s left behind (The fire chasing the gas trail). But he gets out of the car just in time, getting out of that vicious cycle and realising that a life holding grudges is no life at all. I love this band
@@comet6comet yah lol, the song was an inside joke where they had something called the "karma police" They would do something like look at eachother weirdly the mention "they are going to call the karma police" ig the girl with a Hitler haircut is a weird imagery of a "weird face" . Good ass song tho
какие же вы талантливые.... вы сочинили песню так глубоко проникающую в душу... и она так много значит для меня.. Том Йорк, вы и ваш музыкальный коллектив бесподобны! this is what you get... when you mess with us....
I love the deeper meaning in such a simple video. Notice how Thom is in the backseat and never makes eye contact with the driver. He represents the voice in our heads that spites people and unfairly criticizes others. It’s like he’s convincing the driver to chase the man in the road. Then as the driver is retreating from the fire, he looks over and Thom is nowhere to be found. He now has to pay for his actions. That’s karma.
I also like to think of the gasoline trail as the “setting yourself up for problems” idea when it comes to overly spiteful people. Sometimes people create problems for themselves when they have nothing to be spiteful about, or in the case here they unknowingly sabotage themselves because they relied too much on their inner thoughts. The driver in the video is already in the car, so the only one who could’ve caused the gas trail would’ve been Thom, who takes the rule of the intrusive thoughts of spite. It’s like when you say or do something out of frustration or anger that gets used back at you later. You set yourself up for that one.
25 years!!! In that time I married, had two kids, divorced, lost dad and mum, taught my kids the luxury of listening gems like Radiohead and still come back to watch this from time to time.
To anybody that comes from Invincible, please listen to the rest of Radiohead's music, everything you feel in this song features heavily in their entire discography, even more. I recommend starting with the album Ok Computer.
Absolutely. Full catalogue of absolute gems. Though I’d recommend starting with The Bends. But they have truly evolved with every record- actually becoming less fatalistic with each iteration. Weird fishes is my all time jam- “I’m a fish now”- which comes in a later work- Seperator, I think- but it’s proof of the continuity of evolution- brings me so much joy- we’re all fish too just swimming around but feel like tadpoles or snails swirling and crawling below all the other fishes. King of Limbs is outstanding, even within their A+ entire catalogue. My favorite at the moment but that constantly changes. Just don’t dive in with Kid-A, lol. Brilliant and more beautiful with every listen. But that’s more of a dessert course. But who on earth would complain about viewing any Picasso- dude could paint picture perfect portraits if he so chose. Thom can sing at a very highly technical level across many ranges as well- just check out “I’ve seen it all” from Dancer in the Dark- duet with Bjork where she is actually equaled or even outshined imo.

Im supposed to surround myself with "positive energy" but sometimes I just think fuck it and choose to stay in that negative realm. This song is how I feel
+Raiken Xion - Well, you could have chosen a worse song to listen to. The song is actually really fucking wise, if my interpretation of it is correct, and call me an optimist, but I find the way the song leaves off to be kind of hopeful. Like yeah, the narrator fucked up, but he caught himself in the end and I like to think he smartened up and became a better person for it.
Reiko K I agree, its funny but how you can feel sometimes, I can be so up and down that I listen to a song like this but its like I just need to feel it, even if it may have a negative vibe about. Its not easy being positive all the while especially with all the shit in this world that can bring you down.
+Raiken Xion - I agree, and I'm the same way. Being positive is something I have to really work at, and like you said, it's hard because of all the horrible shit that happens (on both a personal and universal level). I actually stopped listening to a lot of bands/artists for that reason. I realized a long time ago that I wasn't doing myself any favors by listening to things that only made me feel sadder/angrier/destructive/etc, so I try to listen to stuff with more positive/hopeful vibes. Unfortunately, it's the sad/despondent/angry music that resonates most with me 90% of the time. The happier/preppy shit is awesome, too, but they don't speak to me as deeply, and don't feel as "real." Anyway, I'm obsessed with this song right now so I listen to it all the time, but I generally try to limit how much Radiohead I listen to (certain songs, anyway, like Paranoid Android, etc), because sometimes it feels like I can drown in their music, if that makes sense.
Reiko K Makes total sense and I completely agree with what you say, I also seem to connect more with the sad kind of depressing (If I can say) type music. I think its about exploring the soul, our human nature and facing things within us, not just all about the nice, pleasant things, because in reality not everything is rosy and sweet, no matter how much some people like to believe. But I do think its important not to get too much into really dark, depressing music, like grime and some really hardcore rock heavy metal. That to me just sounds like noise not "music". I know everyones different but particular songs and music of that genre can really put you in a dark place, and I think its just quite dangerous to surround yourself with too much negativity, cause can really mess with your head, cause people to do some crazy things, especially if they're doing some hard drugs at sametime, dangerous combination.
+Reiko K Holy shit I just had an epiphany today and realized the music I listened to was kind of depressing me and then I read your comment. I feel you man
I love how the man at the end changes the entire situation using his mind and logic in a dangerous time and faces his fears head on. As a person suffering from 15 years of severe social anxiety it can feel like this sometimes trying to recover. Sad I only just heard this song today for the first time. I love it.
I love when the premise of a music video makes you think just as much as the song does. I remember watching this on MTV in the 90s at 12yo. Blew my mind!
i think thats why he didnt just move out of the car’s way. you could see the exact moment in his face that he realized the way he’s gonna fix this. its great.
Honestly, out of all the Radiohead songs I've listened to since I was introduced to them when I was little. This one in particular has to be one of my most favourites, I could listen to it on repeat for hours. Such a classic.
During my time in the military I’ve seen some bad men doing bad shit and I wasn’t allowed to stop it. This song always came to mind. Every time. Thought of the evil doers and those stopping the good guys from intervening
The bass lines are my favorite section of this song. I learn bass like 5 years ago and this song was the first one. Its not easy, but learnable. Man does it feel good. Especially the outro. The last 10 notes 👌🏿
Absolutely beautiful song I can always rely upon to purge negativity. We All need it- and thank you for providing. The Beatles can grovel at Radiohead’s feet- no contest about greatest rock band of all time.
I remember seeing this video on MTV when I was 10 or 11 years old. Could never understand it but was hooked. Almost 25 years later and it brings back memories. Only tech we had were TVs back then!
this is probably the most metaphorical music video ever done. i could spend hours trying to dissect the meaning of it and would probably still let something pass unnoticed. It matches ridiculously well with the lyrics and with the whole concept of ok computer. Can never get enough of it
I am right there with you on dissecting the meanings of the lyrics especially with the music video oh my God I could talk hours about my interpretation. I think you have to have been there done that in order to understand what I feel he's really talking about, in my opinion/ interpretation. It's mind-blowing once you get it, but like Kurt Cobain said, "The sun is gone but I have a light" type of understanding.
Yeah, I remember when Paranod Android was debuted on MTV. It was out there. Also when Radiohead played the Tibetan Freedom Concert in 97 with REM on the same bill. It was bittersweet seeing Stipe hanging out with Yorke at the broadcast because you just knew. You could tell that Radiohead had become the new REM both commercially and artistically when REM didn't quite keep up with their "Ebo the Letter?" They were the first perfectly to mix so many different avant garde styles and have people get it...Miles Davis Bitches Brew jazz, with Pink Floyd Atom Heart Mother experimental rock, and REM poetic folk melancholia.

Beautyful reason 4 a sad song. :)
I'm sorry for y'all's losses but am praying for you. Stay strong
Andy Biehl Thank you for the empathic words...sometimes a prayer for each other can help, its good to know we can share feelings with each other...exactly that is missed today...we think we are alone...and that is very dangerous for our soul...but we are NOT...i am here ! And you all are here too :)

@@raph2954 why?
"This is what you get when you mess with us", the simplest. most straightforward yet most profound definition of karma.
Yes

@@adonaiyah2196 What do you think of it at normal speed?
I lose myself all the time. Itll take a while before I know who I truly am
I just let one go and she overdosed days later....ugh, I told her you lost yourself....

I can’t explain how this song makes me feel....it’s simply brilliant.

FORRRRRRRRR A MINUTE THEREE, I LOST MYSELFFFFF
Isn't it just.
Brilliant! I've listened to this song for years and just today tried to Google what it means. Love your interpretation!

Anthony Taylor Ok Anthony
Indeed
I love the deeper meaning in such a simple video. Notice how Thom is in the backseat and never makes eye contact with the driver. He represents the voice in our heads that spites people and unfairly criticizes others. It’s like he’s convincing the driver to chase the man in the road. Then as the driver is retreating from the fire, he looks over and Thom is nowhere to be found. He now has to pay for his actions. That’s karma.
toufuckinch’e !
There is no driver

To anybody that comes from Invincible, please listen to the rest of Radiohead's music, everything you feel in this song features heavily in their entire discography, even more. I recommend starting with the album Ok Computer.
Idc i came for the invincible song only idc about radiohead its and overrated band
@@Morswin1 If you're calling them overrated, that's because you haven't explored their music. When you're saying "overrated" here, you really mean "I don't really like Radiohead." That's fine, but that doesn't mean the band is overrated.

Patrolling the mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.
The happier/preppy shit is awesome, too, but they don't speak to me as deeply, and don't feel as "real."
Anyway, I'm obsessed with this song right now so I listen to it all the time, but I generally try to limit how much Radiohead I listen to (certain songs, anyway, like Paranoid Android, etc), because sometimes it feels like I can drown in their music, if that makes sense.
I feel you man
Never thought police sirens could be so melodic to listen to.
But of course , the vocals at "I lost myself" are just beautiful.

I know what you mean it gives you a feeling of coming back from a dark emotional time and your getting back to being yourself and moving past it.
yup I'm dealing with addiction too. That end chorus always brings my mind to my trouble with drugs & alcohol
richie O'Hanlon yeah man I feel it I was in a drug induced depression for a while and I finally just now recovered good luck to you.
Car: catches fire
Thom yorke: adios
Thanos snapped
also car: chases man down
Thom Yorke: bonjour
Thom Yorke: hasta la vista, baby!
Bruder muss los
why does it make me cry my eyes out
This song is rather emotional, both musically and lyrically
Honestly, out of all the Radiohead songs I've listened to since I was introduced to them when I was little. This one in particular has to be one of my most favourites, I could listen to it on repeat for hours. Such a classic.
Coming back to this song after watching 3 Body Problem. Can't get it out of my head. Quality never gets old.
My favourite character died to this song. Goddam I'm so salty! Song is a masterpiece tho.
Greetings I have a song to recommend to you called 'life changes' by Robert Nix
The very same reason I'm here now
During my time in the military I’ve seen some bad men doing bad shit and I wasn’t allowed to stop it. This song always came to mind. Every time.
Thought of the evil doers and those stopping the good guys from intervening
Sorry to hear this man, you did what you could, unfortunately in reality sometimes it isn’t much…. Thank you for your service.
"For a minute there, I lost myself," a minute that can start a whole life with someone or a minute that eventually can destroy your "happiness"
This is a gorgeous masterpiece. OK Computer is in my top albums of all time easily
Best 90s rock album with definitely maybe
The deep bass tones in this song have always haunted me. Love it.
Don't worry there was other things like calculators, toasters, and Nintendo.
Basically this song means, what goes around, comes around.
Lmao ayyooo thanks for the laugh
Devuelve las malvinas
That's what karma means, not this song.
And what comes around, eventually goes around
Are u dumb or
“For a minute there, I lost myself”.... true & relatable lyrics, it’s almost poetry.
this is probably the most metaphorical music video ever done. i could spend hours trying to dissect the meaning of it and would probably still let something pass unnoticed.
@@DollfaceKim please tell me about it, I don't think I quite understood the lyrics 🥲
@@adr257 🤪
How? Can you explain?
if you liked the video, check out his movies! Jonathan Glazer is an absolutely amazing director. Under The Skin is my favorite movie in a while
Listened to this on a radio station somewhere in Mexico for the first time. It was a surreal experience.
Lol I live in Mexico and never heard Radiohead on the radio, I hope they play them more often
@@SitDownStandUp- I hope so too, maybe it's because I live near the US, but I've heard radiohead on the radio quite often.
One of the greatest albums in music history without a doubt
Hi I Recommend an indie song And Video Called 'looking Into the Mirror' by Robert Nix
Yup
1
I just discovered this band today in 2019 and woahh their music feels like a breath of fresh air...how did i not listen to them sooner...
@@Blahzez thanks!
@DANDNB thanks I will! You guys are so helpful
I recommend listening to just all of their stuff cos it's all amazing :))
I recommend listening to every album except King of Limbs and Pablo Honey!!
Just start from the beginning.
