One day I hope that Mr. Tim Rhys-Evans will be recognized as SIR Tim Rhys-Evans for the work he has done for Welsh youth and the pleasure he has given all for both boys' and men's choirs in our country.
Donald Edward you forgot to mentioned the pleasure he has given in the world. I am a Canadian working in Latin America and I am absolutelly taken with the beauty and the talent of these God´s choir young men. For the past 3 days I can not stop crying listening to Calon Lân by only boys aloud. There is hope after all; and life is beautiful.
PORTES PORTES Yes, of course and that too. It is not only in Wales that the beauty of songs sung by Welsh male voice choirs are lauded. Choral singing (like Rugby) is in the Welsh genes and it takes somebody like Tim to harness that to overcome the economic dysphasia caused by right wing thinking.
Donald Edward Well said. Tourism is a huge industry; but in order to do so, you need to invest. Wales has everything to offer. This is what I am doing in Latin America. Working closely with the rural development areas to promote the wellness, gastronomy, exchange student and baby boomers tourism
+Donald Edward : Tim Rhys-Evans has added a dimension to the Globe to honor Choral Singing . Devoting his life to helping lads who have had to deal with an economic downturn in Wales. These young boys into men have been introduced through music to acquire a sense of confidence and self respect. It is the faith of Mr. Tim Rhys-Evans and his hard work that I agree with you that Tim should be honored with the title of SIR Tim Rhys-Evans.
The reason I am still watching this after at least 8 years is that I am absolutely entranced by these boys and they still bring me to tears every time I hear them. Long may it last and I truly believe it will! Thank you Tim and all your boys. Carol Booth
Carol I agree with you, I often watch the Audition tape for BGT from these boys, and I tear up as well, so many beautiful young men! and they say there is nothing tradional or special about the UK, well these young men proove them wrong!!

Why is a private practice even a subject? I don’t get it. Who cares? Now I’ve got to get back to planning the Straight Parade. It is held in the Winter because we keep our clothes on when we march.
I too am a very proud OBA mum, and I share your gratitude to Tim and Only Men Aloud for encouraging our sons and teaching them to have pride in themselves. I've said it before, and I'll doubtless say it again: Thank you Tim, and thank you OMA for taking time to mentor and befriend teenage lads in the south Wales valleys.
Some of these comments are years old and I’m just discovering the choir! So I hope that the young men who have graduated from the choir now have happy, productive lives. I too live in a coal rich state with a struggling economy. Also, my great-grandfather came from Wales.....and he was a singer!!!
What an aspirational leader. His absolute commitment to the boys is amazing. Getting an audience to participate with happiness a step above all others. Way cool!
Any man who can take 130 + teenage young men and accomplish what he has and with the respect from all of them should really be proud of himself. They are just amazing, and he has a great personality. Excellent group. I'm from USA and do not understand what they are saying, but enjoy listening.
THANK YOU! for the translation! I’ve listened to OBA and OMA and John’s Boys sing this beautiful song and wondered what the words translated too. I’ve watched a video to teach me how to sing the chorus so I can sing along at least in part. My latest venture is doing Duolingo Welsh. While I’m only a few lessons into it, with your translation, I was able to recognize some of the words I’ve been learning. Again, thank you.
I bring this glorious boy's choir up almost on a daily basis. Now, this piece is in my head all the time. Each and every time I hear them sing, I get so choked up. They are so talented and one can tell from listening to them just how much they are enjoying the singing. I LOVE them!
Pat I am glad to read your reply. Since I discovered this choir last year I listen to them daily and one of the songs will play in my head all day. Their singing is so moving no matter what they sing. We have started making plans to go see and hear them in person next yr, Nov '21. Tickets have been purchased! Keep enjoying their singing and many thanks to Tim.
I’ve been listening to the Boys, then the Men, for 9 years now. This version still gives me chills and it’s rare I don’t tear up. It’s also fun that watching Tim is like watching my school music director-it’s all in the bounce! A nice little flashback too, to a Dr. Pat Wiggins I once worked with, extra thanks for that! 😊
I also discovered OBA when looking at different choirs. They are amazing and Tim has such a gift with these boys, and they are dedicated to him. I could listen to them all day. I have even learned to sing some of the Welsh songs with them although I don't know a word I am singing! My husband and I have already purchased tickets for their first performance next year-Nov.'21. God willing, we hope by then the virus will be under control and we will be allowed to travel from the US. Thanks Tim for seeing your dream come to fruition and sharing these boys and songs with the world.
The first soloist with hair brushed forward (bet he regrets that now😄) went to Oxford & is now a Dr in London & training to be a surgeon. I would love to see a documentary 10 yrs on next year to see what became of the boys now men.
I first came across Only Boys Aloud when scanning thru audition videos one night(XFactor; The Voice; etc) which I like to do sometimes. As soon as they started singing I was mesmerized! I then starting searching for more videos of them and learned that it actually started with MEN aloud and also was captivated by the story behind the groups. God bless Tim Rhys-Evans and all he does for the young boys and men!
I am not from Wales originally although my mother has relatives there, but I did understand what they were singing about. I have sung "Calon Lan" before as part of my singing practice but Mr. Rhys-Evans has inspired me to sing it with passion and his choir has given me renewed gusto with singing and encouraged to continue to sing. Thank you so much Mr. Rhys-Evans for changing a nation, changing a community and for turning my like for singing into a passion!!!
I grew up in South Wales as a young girl. We only lived there for four years as my father was in the Royal Navy. They were the happiest days of my life at St David's Voluntary School. Every day we had singing and prayers, and I still believe that combination of lessons is extremely powerful in providing stability and security to developing minds and characters. I am now a retired psychologist living in NSW (New South Wales) Australia, with two sons, five grandchildren and two Pembrokeshire Corgis. Only Boys Aloud is incredibly inspiring and still gives me chills when they start singing.
Amazing man, he deserves so much praise for what he’s done and continues to do, he gives those boys something to aspire to, I hope he gets the recognition due him very soon, I’m an Aussie but appreciate this wonderful man and his fabulous Only Boys Aloud 💜💜💜💜
"We're not in the land of song anymore, boys!" LOL Tim really is an inspiration. It's hard not to be enthusiastic in his presence, he gives off such a vibe.
Ohhhh, there's beautiful! Well done lads, you're a credit to the valleys and your families. And Tim ... you are an inspiration to us all. If only we had more great teachers and entertainers such as you the world would be a better place. You are a great man of men. Well done indeed.
A GREAT EXAMPLE OF WHAT ENTHUSIASTIC AND INSPIRED ARTIST CAN MAKE , WHEN THE POLITICIANS AND OFFICIALS DONT CARE ABOUT THEIR DUTIES. BRAVO TO YOU , TIM RHYS- EVANS , AND TO YOUR TALENTED PUPILS!
Love the Welsh male voices young and old they have such a unique sound and keep, the Welsh language going , I sang for many years in the Glasgow youth choir and the love it gave me for all types of music will never leave me
this is an amazing project and such outstanding incredible work of both Tim and his boys. What a difference compairing these courageous young men with the trash in the USA who can only shoot guns at eachother, play videogames, smoke crack and become warcriminals in Iraq and Afghanistan! This is the most amazing and promissing work for these boys and for mankind! Teaching boys who are damaged and have so little chances to become loving responsible creative men is an act of goodness beyond words!
While I am an American citizen, I too, cherish my Irish/Welsh family roots. From the first time I heard OBA sing Calon Lan, it has fast become my favorite song.
100% agree. Singing is very much what makes Wales, Wales. Especially in terms of keeping the language and culture alive. He's raising leaders here and it's fantastic.
I am from the Philippines but I am a huge fan of this choir, I first saw them in the Britain's Got Talent. I was really blown away by their performance but not only that I was totally moved by their genuine passion in what they're doing.
Very beautiful their energy is contagious. I've been away from church music and have an audition this Thursday. Indeed music is transformative and has the capacity to connect everyone everywhere. I have long held that if they project music into violent or potentially violent situations we will choose to be our most noble and spiritual selves.
This man is a wonderful human being..... bravo to to you Sir..... Singing and music in general are as important as other creative works. Quite frankly without UA-cam, I would have been terribly miserable during lockdown.....so I’m grateful as heck. Singing and music are VERY IMPORTANT to our whole person......
I stumbled on OBA looking at some past auditions for BGT. They are among the best male choirs I've ever seen. More than 50 years ago I sang in an all male choir in the Navy. The choir was started during the Korean War to encourage and entertain new recruits and and any military passing through. The Bluejacket Choir was very, very good, as we were told by many renounced choir directors and musicians who heard us. One of the difficulties our director had to deal with was losing and replacing 25% of the members every week. These men were not military singers. They were regular sailors who loved to sing. When they came to this base as part of their duty, they volunteer to sing while filling all of their regular duties. When they were assigned to a different command, it was time to go and be a regular sailor. That meant that new men had a week to learn the basic numbers we sang often and new numbers scheduled for appearances in the near future, maybe 10 numbers a week. The catch was that we were a cappella and sang all numbers from memory. That required a lot of mentoring.
Surely, I am not mad at anybody. My point is that when we all go back to God, the only commodity that we bring back to Him is the ability to praise Him by singing.
You guys never cease to amaze me. I can't believe that as much time as I spend on UA-cam, I have found several performances that I hadn't heard before. I've heard you sing Calon Lan several times now, each one a little different than the other but all so beautiful. I'm sitting here in tears right now because you just made me feel it once again. Please keep posting videos. You are loved in the U.S. as well as Great Britain!!!! God bless you ALL, from Tim to every lad who has participated in this group. I've loved music my entire life but was never blessed with a singing voice so I really appreciate great voices like I hear when I listen to OBA!!!!
You sure are well liked here in the United States as well as Great Britian you really did bring tears to my eyes with the song Calon Lan PLease Keep posting Videos with the 2 boys that sang the solo parts were from Tim & the other one to every Lad that participated in the group of 133 in the choir keep upm the good work I really did LOVE the songs & u all really put your Heart in to it.
Nearly 50 years ago i was blessed because the local highschool was very much music orientated. Our largest choir was 212 voices. That was an excellent SSAATTBB choir. We had a chamber choir, "Men's Choir", "Ladies'Choir" and more. I was in 6 different choirs in each of Grades 10, 11, 12, and 13. Because of theze choirs I have sung on stage in both of the incredible Music Halls in Toronto. The out of this world Massey Music Hall is a pure delight. The modern Roy Thompson Hall is most decidedly mediocre at best. Both are a thrill, though. It warms my heart to hear the voices of uoung people bringing music to life in such an incredible way.
FABULOUS. Singing can be so uplifting.... can evoke many emotions. It's good for the soul, and doesn't have to be done alone. I'm an extremely proud OBA mum, and so grateful for the tremendous opportunity and encouragement our boys have been given. Thank you Tim and Only Men Aloud
❤️ Calon Lan & Only Boys Aloud! Don't stop believing! You guys are awesome. Thank you Tim Rhys-Evans for the wonderful work you have done with these fantastic young men. I'm even more proud of my Welsh roots now. ❤️
I love to listen to these young men , they do a wonderfull job . Thank you Tim Rhys Evans for bring Only Boys Aloud you have done a great job in bring these young lads to sing .
I don't understand a word of Welch, yet my eyes well up with tears of joy when I see/hear these young men sing. God bless Tim Rhys-Evans for what he does... just look at the respect and pride in all those faces!!! Thank you Only Boys Aloud, you are amazing.
Ever since xmas 20 20 I heard these young lads at the the talent show in England I can't get over thier beautifull voices I keep playing Callon and the war is over three or four times a day I prey these boys went on to rich full life's The instructor bravo
I grew up singing in choirs and always loved it but this guy is such an inspiration of bringing his gifts and talents to these boys and the whole community. Love this 🎶❤️
HI there and thank you for your post. I have not gone to the trouble to scroll down and find out exactly what was said regarding this conductors sexuality but I applaud your comments regarding this conductors talents and I hope more people speak in the same vein as you do.
I just love Tim Rhys-Evans' enthusiasm. I would have loved to have been there in person. Although, I don't like fighting back even happy tears in public. It's all the sniffing that follows. So embarassing. This was beautiful and a joy to hear and see. Bravo! 💙
Music, no matter the genre, is universal. It always brings people together in my opinion. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. From Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 💖 🇨🇦 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
To say tht I am dismayed that Donald Edward's desire tht Tim Rhys-Evans be made a Sir. He is far more deserving than many of those that have had this honour.
the middle lead singer in Don't Stop is such a cutey. and to have Sir actually point to him to sing louder and with more gusto was such a great moment. I do miss Hywel in the group but that's okay,he's all grown up and on his way. Best of luck to all.........
Spectacular! From idea to participation to achievement, the whole performance comes off being wonderful. The boys have reason to be very, very proud of themselves and their work together. Among a few tears, I'm all smiles! (yes, 5 generations ago, I was Welsh too)
Recently I was sharing the challenges faced by the leaders of today's countries. We ended our discussion with a sad feeling of futility. Thank you Tim and Only Boys Aloud for lifting our spirits, restoring our hopes and enriching our souls.
I love this song...we have it translated in our language (Mizo). It's a song that comes from the sense of devine heart and the longing for that pure heart
First saw you on BGT, didn't understand one word but didn't have to as the singing was so outstanding. And Don't Stop Believing on this TED show would be a hit on an.y stage - worldwide. Keep up the great work with your youth. Gil' from the United States
Love Tim’s caveat of “Mams Rule”… I had the most wonderful Welsh dad. He was kind, strong, creative and loving. But yep, we all know Welsh Mams rule. Dads included ;) I’m proud of both. Proud of my country and heritage, too. Listen to this song and how beautiful it is…
There is a past member of this group who is now a doctor! The first soloist, Mr. Ifan Jenkin... I have followed as much of his career, and singing as I can online...I am a yank from Indiana in the USA, and of course he is in the UK, not sure what city now...since he is now a Doctor, not sure where he is livng now...he obviously is Welsh...this group, and TIm is so good....they have a few videos on you tube about the group...
i keep playing the music of these boys aloud. wonderful, development of the young lads, and it gives great confidence to them to make a better future for their self. i need to get a grant and start such a group here in eastern n.c. u s a.
Would love to know what some of these guys are up to now. I hope they're still singing. Damn COVID has kept choirs apart... Hopefully it will end and they can get back to making music.
One day I hope that Mr. Tim Rhys-Evans will be recognized as SIR Tim Rhys-Evans for the work he has done for Welsh youth and the pleasure he has given all for both boys' and men's choirs in our country.

I think the teenage young men need to get credit too though. They chose to put the work in. They could be out throwing bricks at passing cars instead.
I am not asking for a luxurious life
Nid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus
The gold of the world or its fine pearls
Aur y byd na'i berlau mân
I ask for a happy heart
Gofyn wyf am galon hapus
An honest heart, a clean heart
Calon onest, calon lân
A pure heart full of goodness
Calon lân yn llawn daioni
It is fairer than the pretty lily
Tecach yw na'r lili dlos
Only a clean heart can sing
Dim ond calon lân all ganu
Singing the day and singing the night
Canu'r dydd a chanu'r nos
If we wanted worldly wealth
Pe dymunwn olud bydol
He has wings
Chwim adenydd iddo sydd
The wealth of a pure, virtuous heart
Golud calon lân, rinweddol
It will always bring profit
Yn dwyn bythol elw fydd
A pure heart full of goodness
Calon lân yn llawn daioni
It is fairer than the pretty lily
Tecach yw na'r lili dlos
Only a clean heart can sing
Dim ond calon lân all ganu
Singing the day and singing the night
Canu'r dydd a chanu'r nos
Evening and morning my wish
Hwyr a bore fy nymuniad
Soar on the wings of song
Esgyn ar adenydd cân
On to God, for my Keeper's sake
Ar i Dduw, er mwyn fy Ngheidwad
Give me a pure heart
Roddi i mi galon lân
A pure heart full of goodness
Calon lân yn llawn daioni

Beautiful
Cymru am byth!! Glad to hear of an American supporter
Even with the worst sound engineering I've ever heard in my LIFE (tsk, tsk, TED), this choir still proves these boys are champs! Two thumbs up!
Just amazing just feels like yesterday when I first heard them.
FABULOUS. Singing can be so uplifting.... can evoke many emotions. It's good for the soul, and doesn't have to be done alone. I'm an extremely proud OBA mum, and so grateful for the tremendous opportunity and encouragement our boys have been given. Thank you Tim and Only Men Aloud
Thanks you mister. I do honor and appreciate your effort and contribution of what you are doing for these young men..

Tim, you really know how to connect with an audience.

HI there and thank you for your post. I have not gone to the trouble to scroll down and find out exactly what was said regarding this conductors sexuality but I applaud your comments regarding this conductors talents and I hope more people speak in the same vein as you do.
I just love
Tim Rhys-Evans' enthusiasm.
I would have loved to have been there in person. Although, I don't like fighting back even happy tears in public. It's all the sniffing that follows.
So embarassing.
This was beautiful and a joy to hear and see.
Bravo! 💙
Great respect, Mr. Tim Rhys-Evans :-)
Wonderful! Gave me chills. You young men are the hope of the world
Music, no matter the genre, is universal. It always brings people together in my opinion. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. From Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 💖 🇨🇦 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Having had the pleasure of singing under the leadership of Tim and the time I've spent with the choir has been absolutely wonderful

A heart of love can sing forever...so very true...
Oh, when he got everybody joining in, that was a feeling.
Absolutely well done to the lads for keeping the flame of the Welsh male voice choir alive ❤️
The world needs a lot more compassion and acts of love through which we lift and inspire one another.
Ok. Now I' m crying. Who would have thought hearing young male choral song would move me so much
To say tht I am dismayed that Donald Edward's desire tht Tim Rhys-Evans be made a Sir. He is far more deserving than many of those that have had this honour.
So amazing. A great leader and inspiration to those boys. I pray each and everyone of them excel in life.❤
the middle lead singer in Don't Stop is such a cutey. and to have Sir actually point to him to sing louder and with more gusto was such a great moment. I do miss Hywel in the group but that's okay,he's all grown up and on his way. Best of luck to all.........
i'm from the Netherlands and i'm great fan off this choir. I enjoy the songs a specialy Canon Lan.
Calon Lan**
Tim and Boys you have a South African supporter, I loved this and it made me want to join in "viva voce"!!!
Thanks.x
Spectacular! From idea to participation to achievement, the whole performance comes off being wonderful. The boys have reason to be very, very proud of themselves and their work together.
Among a few tears, I'm all smiles!
(yes, 5 generations ago, I was Welsh too)
Recently I was sharing the challenges faced by the leaders of today's countries. We ended our discussion with a sad feeling of futility. Thank you Tim and Only Boys Aloud for lifting our spirits, restoring our hopes and enriching our souls.

I love this song...we have it translated in our language (Mizo). It's a song that comes from the sense of devine heart and the longing for that pure heart
never tire of Only Boys Aloud and their Conductor!
Listen to this song and how beautiful it is…
Greetings from Czech. It is perfect show. I hope this guys sometimes will arrive to Czech.

Tim Rhys-Evans's introduction was, in itself, inspirational. He is an outstanding communicator in English and, dare I say, in Welsh, don't ya know?
Excellent as always - what a great choir - such strong voices - keep up the good wonderful work.
