I’m glad that you recognised the difference in Romans fear to the other two. The way he’s *physically* afraid in a way the other two aren’t just breaks my heart.
The scene with Kendall, Roman and Shiv always breaks me. This series is at its best when they're showing the love between these siblings. Complicated love, sure, but still love. What an incredible cast with amazing chemistry.
Yeah, the fact that despite the way they were raised and behave they sometimes manage to show genuine love for each other always makes for very powerful moments
snook's acting in this episode was stellar. the ferocity in her eyes was great.. not overblown. and the moment at the end when tom put his hands on her shoulders and she winced like that.. amazing
It's sneaky but Shiv was never more powerful than at this moment when she bulldozed everyone onto being onside, she's basically leading the charge. And then it gets taken away by mum, a non factor in her life, indirectly because she didn't do some post sex aftercare for Tom. It's so fucked I can't even laugh, the amount of failure Kendall and Rome have to go through to reach the same state, the women in their life barely matter.
The whole key to Logan's toxicity is that he not only always has to win, it's also that it always has to be at the kids' expense. If they try to succeed on their own, it's a betrayal and he torpedoes it. If they want to succeed with his help, they're weak and he berates them for not being independently successful. He can only be happy if they're failing.
@@jakefavre No. Kendall worked for decades and was interims CEO. Large part of his pay was in shares. Those 2 billions are not Logan's pile, it's part of Kendalls. Unless you think everyone in Waystar is supposed to work for free.
Probably the most dramatic episode of the series and Roman being basically made the main character for this episode to build up to him finally going against his fathers wishes only to have it blow up in his face is such an incredible way of doing it and Kieran Culkin killed it with his performance. I especially love in his deepest moments of desperation after his father betrayed him pleading with Gerri to help him and her basically confirming she never actually cared about him.
I like to think she did care about him, just not more than she cared about herself. She was in a precarious position of not needing to seem too aligned with Roman after the dick pic fiasco, so it was the worst possible time for him to really truly need her. It would have been the nail in the coffin for her with Logan.
Watching this makes me wish more people would react to succession. The entire series builds up to this episode and it exceeds every highest expectation leaving you floored. Can’t wait for next season!
It was Tom! I completely forgot about that. That's why he asked Greg if he wanted he a deal with the devil. They set themselves up for a great final Season and oh boy I cannot wait your reactions.
I can’t thank you ladies enough for reacting to this fantastic show. Not everyone is doing it. And not everyone is having the thoughts & discussions you-two have. I look forward to these videos every week now. Thank you.
I think Logan using language akin to conversion therapy was absolutely intentional and not many people pick it up. There's many lines throughout the show wrt Roman's sexuality that intentionally remind us of homophobia, and it's all mixed up with issues of CSA, masculinity, and Logan not thinking Roman is "man" enough because he's too emotional, because he loves too much. When Logan says, "I never figured you for a f*ggot" we're supposed to know that he absolutely has. When Shiv says later, "Dad thinks there's something wrong with you," it's supposed to remind us of conversion therapy - Roman's sexuality is something that needs fixing. All of this is not to give us a definitive answer on Roman's sexuality. But Succession is using homophobia to tell a story about the pressures of masculinity in this family, and Roman is the one who isn't a man "correctly" enough.
Zero spoilers unless you already know what happens but I think people don't realise how important that reveal in the finale was for the entire series because no one really cared about the characters personal lives. It was always about blood. Lineage, what made Logan reconsider passing it on to his children? The answer got laid out in the end imo. I don't think Logan cares about the money or the business as much as he says, in his eyes these really are decisions for the family as a whole, it's just so twisted it's hard to see. He's just so much of an arsehole it's hard to see past our distaste for his actions. All the characters sexualities matter, because they have to in a family where the patriarch is treated like a king and they fight over his love, it's fucked up.
I really feel for any new current and future viewer of this show. They will never have the chance to experience what the rest of us experienced the first time this episode aired - the excruciatingly agonizing feeling of waiting for over a year for the Season 4 premiere after this crazy blockbuster of a season-ending. No other season finale has had me more shaken than this one. In this episode, Shiv had me at: "Mom f***d us." When she said that, it felt like a giant dagger was driven through my gut. I still remember vividly what I went through emotionally after watching this episode. I sat on the edge of my bed with my hands on my head constantly rocking up and down: all the while my entire body, from head to toe, was vibrating uncontrollably. I had the most intense chills and goosebumps I have ever had in my whole life at the end of it. This is definitely one of my favorite season finales of all time. Hope you all enjoy Season 4. I will definitely be tuning in here again for that one.
oh god i totally agree... i had to stay up till 3AM to watch it in real time and it was so worth it, watching it live was an unbelievable experience i just sat there motionless for 15 minutes after the episode ended
Totally!! I remember all of twitter being stunned. On Monday someone tweeted about how succession fans needs the day work bc the finale was too much. My body was vibrating until Tuesday. I’ve never been so shook for season finale. TOM! I’ve never gasped so loudly. I’m so glad I watched live with succession twitter as well. It was a time! I miss it
Seeing this episode live as it aired was wild! Twitter imploded; my timeline was just: "TOM!" "WTF, TOM?!" "F'in Tom!!!" 😂 Also, Roman desperately grovelling to Gerri to intervene, and her cold response, damn! All the kids betrayed by everyone they thought were in their corner, in less than 5 minutes. Bring on season 4! I can't wait!
@@LordTywinLannistertheBased That's def in character for Tywin! Tom and Logan are the only ones that had to work themselves up and aren't spoiled so I get you
Shiv showed Tom he wasn't even an afterthought in her decision-making process. She has them playacting at being a team but every time it's her growth that's prioritized and his is thrown by the wayside. She keeps telling him she doesn't love him. She keeps *showing* him she's doesn't live him. Being married to her is no guarantee that he'll be taken care of. It's no guarantee that they will even stay together. So he finally makes the play for himself. He takes care of himself. If only she had... Something for him. Just... Show him he factors in even a little bit. But...no...
Willa does care about Connor. Her being a hooker does not exclude that. She is like a not so refined version of Marcia (who was tragically underused in the later seasons), who had her own agendas, but when was with Longan she was very supportive. I think they would be a good couple. Same with Roman and Tabitha, if Roman would clear his head more. The one who is really f00ked in the relationship is Tom. They guy wanted a normal family and a kid, but he got Shiv instead.
He also wanted prestige and the privilege that comes with being inside of Roy's family, so he chose that and it turned out to be not fulfilling (surprise, surprise).
Idk about "normal family" when it comes to Tom. I think he's more about the money and power of it all, although I believe he dreamed of himself and Shiv teaming up to become a successful NY power couple. He wants to have a family with Shiv, but I think it's more 40% out of love for her and 60% a means to solidify his position within the family. And her knows Greg has leverage, so Tom's holding on to him is a way of having someone in the family who is 100% with him.
I literally screamed at the end of this. It was so good and I felt bad because this was such a rough season for their sibling dynamics and the one time they come together they get screwed over by their mom and Tom.

What's amazing is that moment between Shiv and Tom was mostly improvised by the actors even after the scene ended on the script.
The conversation about Nero pushing his wife down the stairs to marry Sporus was essentially foreshadowing Tom betraying Shiv yet taking Greg with him

"What am i gonna do with a soul anyways" pretty much sums up Greg lol
