I’m not even kidding when I say that Succession is the closest thing we have to modern day Shakespeare. Who else can balance comedy, drama, and tragedy so well? Every character and every scene is so layered and complex and each actor brings their own interpretations to their performance, it all blends so beautifully.

No you don’t have to be kidding. It is based on Shakespeare and Greek tragedy as they are the building blocks of drama. Which is why it is so successful as it has depth and dynamic.
It's exactly like the drama of Richard III and King Lear combined.
"Atlanta" does the triple balance just as well. It's the golden age of TV.

Matthew Mcfayden is such a master. Tom is, to me, one of the best and most unique characters in TV. His performance is truly astonishing.
Hes a character that if someone described his actions, I would not like him but, the way he is played makes me sort of want to root for him
You can literally see Tom's progression to the moment he chose to betray Shiv. Their wedding night when Shiv basically asked for an open marriage all the way to when Shiv told him "bed talk" that she doesn't really love him and shes out of his league
I can't wait to see what Tom and Sporus are up to next season.

During their role playing and Shiv says she doesn't love him.....he played so many emotions simply by the look on his face, amazing acting!
It saddens me that Sarah Snook's performance being overlooked. She is a great actress and her performance gives me goosebumps everytime. She def deserved that Emmy.

@@scorpio2607 I understand, but I'm the kind of person who's like "she already won that award for that role... give it to other people now" hahshsvah I always wish for variety in award shows, especially television ones. And I hope you can get the time to check out Better Call Saul, because Rhea Seehorn (and Bob Odenkirk) absolutely kills it and she only got better with each passing season. Bob Odenkirk did mention before that because she is a very controlled character, it's harder to get award shows to recognize it, and unfortunately it seems he will be right until the end :(
I love how Shiv’s dress incorporates the colors of her brothers’ outfits to signify that the three siblings are finally working with each other instead of competing against each other. It’s details like this that make the show worth rewatching.
Whoever is the casting director for this show, deserves all the awards in the world.

I’m so glad that this is how this season ended. I got goosebumps even rewatching this scene. Sarah’s acting was phenomenal.
In the moment it's so difficult to just appreciate the acting, because the story is mesmerizing. Watching it like this is a great reminder of how incredible every actor in this show is.
Desperately hoping for Sarah and Matthew to take home their much deserved Emmys for this season. Two of the best characters and actors on the show

7:27 I love this piece of acting from Sarah Snook. Even though Shiv (wrongly) knows the siblings control the supermajority and have the upper hand, she struggles to stand up to her imposing father. Snook takes an extra moment of pause, swallows hard and blurts everything in one go as if somehow summoning some courage to stand up to Logan.
One of the coldest lines from Shiv is when she tells Tom “I may not love you, but I do love you.”

@@TB91178 i think ur right but i also took it to mean that she doesn't actively show love for him, but she does 'love' him, which i think is a lie or an attempt to placate him or maybe she even believes it herself idk. but i think the ambiguity or offhandedness and how she doesn't care to explain herself or think its worth her time just makes it so much worse

Sarah is absolutely brilliant. To act alongside such misprized talent or to direct these actors must be the best job in the world
Matthew McFadden has the most elegant and lovely voice, both in his natural accent and his American accent.
Tom Wambsgans has hands down the best character arc in the show & Matthew Macfadyen is an incredible actor. An Emmy is long overdue.

To me, the foreshadowing of his betrayal was Tom's meeting with Kendall in the diner, when Kendall says Tom has to break out of his mould to earn Shiv's respect. We'll see how that flies.

I still wanna know the backstory re Shiv and Tom's relationship...in the first Season there was an ever so slight mention of Shiv being in a bad place and Tom coming to her rescue, but then nothing was ever mentioned. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
I always wondered that too! I imagine Shiv dated alot of cold, narcasstic "Logan types," while partying alot. Tom probably offered a lot of stability and affection to her. She just doesn't know how to return that being raised in such a dysfunctional and cold household.
Her past with Nate - they seem like intellectual equals. In season 2, Logan calls her a coward for choosing Tom as a safe choice, as someone who is not going to challenge her. I guess that turned out not to be true.
Shiv is such a piece of work (like everyone else on this show lol) that I'm always grateful they got a powerhouse like Sarah Snook to play her because she is so damn likable and charismatic, she owns the room every time she's onscreen
Since Sarah didn’t get her Emmy for this season, I know she will pull up in season 4 and I hope she gets her Emmy then, the woman is a legend

Lost count of the number of times I have gone back to this scene. The first time I watched this episode, particularly this last scene, I had the most intense goosebumps I have ever had in my life. Succession is undoubtedly the most brilliant show I have watched in recent years
Ditto. I was left goosebumpy, stunned & breathless from those last scenes. It actually took a while before I could breathe normally again, or speak. Overwhelming power & emotion on the screen. I’m just in awe of the acting & writing of this series. It is next-level extraordinary!
Mark Mylod is a genius. His approach to directing these scenes is essential to giving the show its unique, utterly realistic cadence.
I'm so excited for Season 4, this is one of my favourite shows, it's incredibly well written and acted!
Matthew Macfayden is such a phenomenal actor. I remember watching the first episode of season 1 and I was like how can he pull off that scene where he threatens and troubles Greg right in the first meeting. And then rest seasons and Emmy 🎉🙌. It all had to lead to Mathew being the one who turns the table in the end! What a twist 🙌

To see Roy Snr hurriedly leave the room to attend to the next piece of business encapsulates the narcissist that is Logan Roy. Brilliant writing, direction and actors all!
Matthew nailed it at the end: “the writing is the real gift”. Yes, it’s a given these are outstanding actors, but with this kind of material to chew on, who wouldn’t be?

It went down to the last seconds, and Sarah, a chef kiss.
Phenomenal writing, phenomenal cast, phenomenal direction and production; this will go down in history as a modern classic.
Listening to this conversation, I'm struck that another, maybe more subtle aspect of this episode and this scene in particular, is that the audience - me, at least - is drawn along in the enthusiasm of the sibling characters, and their certainty that they could actually pull this off - they had a SUPERMAJORITY!! - and then we got the rugs pulled out from under us just like the kids. Damn that's harsh realisation when you realise you're no smarter than the dummies you're feeling in cahoots with.

I remember reading that the writers planned the S2 finale as « Kendall wins, but he loses » ; this one felt like « The siblings lose, but they win ».

@@spacecadet2172 Of course it's just my interpretation : they're truly united for the very first time, which is what Logan has been trying to prevent since the beginning.
Who knows how long that's going to last! But I love that we've finally gotten to a point where they stick together.

Best show of the past decade, hands down. Maybe 30+ years. It's flawless in all ways.
This was so masterly done. Each character got their closure and opening at the same time. We saw everyone in the light we would not see coming, and yet, we could have guessed given how many layers each one had throughout the season and how long each one had to bear with different situations. Tom's action was a great example of that. Beautifully done.

I have to admit I’ve seen this like 4 times beginning to end. There are some scenes that are so hilarious! My favorite episode was the family therapy in New Mexico 😂 #teamShiv

This is one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. The writing is on such a high caliber . So many times I’ve belly laughed at the words one of the characters have said. I felt like I was gaining so much wisdom all in a surge . Bravo to the writers and cast !
This show is outstanding! I truly hope Brian Cox will win an Emmy this year for Best Actor in a Drama Series! His performance throughout every season is phenomenal and powerful.
It's almost unfair how good Brian Cox is. And I mean unfair *to Brian Cox*. Because he makes it look so easy. Like he IS Logan Roy and everyone around him are actors. That you forget how powerful of an actor he is.
As good as he is, I don’t think Brian Cox will ever win an Emmy for this role (well, he only has one more chance anyway). First of all, he is always going to lose an acting challenge head-to-head against Jeremy Strong; and second, he is the only character in that show who doesn’t have an “arc”. Everyone else changes and grows and plays a wide range of A-Z emotions. Logan Roy is basically the same character in the pilot episode as he is in the explosive Season 3 finale.
I hope season 4 opens with a continuation of this scene bc I’d love to just spend a few more moments sitting with it
This was a very well put together piece. The actors' interviews were delicious, and Mylod's was instrumental in understanding how it all came together. Should have won best director, hands down.

There are some scenes where you cant miss a second because of nonverbal cues. This was one of them. I was on call for work...watching the finale of the season intensely and got the call. Had to leave just as the 3 were meeting with their dad....AAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!

The kids are obviously broken but this is when my heart truly broke for them. They’ve been completely emotionally neglected by their parents and their mother is just an avoidant fool of a mom

I don’t think he’d be nearly as interesting without getting beaten down by Shiv and then taking out his despair on Greg. You can’t make a Tomlette without breaking some Gregs.
All season I went back and forth on who I wanted to get that supporting actor Emmy. I was leaning towards Kieran until this scene. Matthew and Sarah deserve *all the awards* for this.
These performers were phenomenal. They convinced me that these characters are the most despicable human beings that I would never want to ever be around. It made me happy that I am not part of a family with such wealth. I was sick to my stomach much of the time of their constant abusive hate speech. But, I watched all the way through because I was hooked!

These creators, producers, directors, and actors need a creativity honorary award and need to be making the money the characters are in the actual show. Beautiful masterpiece one only sees in a century.
