Do you have any recommendations for LIFX bulb switches that are like the innovelli red but you only need wifi or the homepod mini hub since the lifx smart switches aren’t available in the uk since it was bought by Feit Electric
I've got a smart bulb in my living room which isn't tied to any physical switch or button. I setup an esp with an IR receiver to listen for button presses (my remote like many has several unused buttons, in my case a whole numpad is available and the tv doesn't respond at all). I can use these button presses as an automation trigger in home assistant, I've got the living room lights setup to toggle on or off with the 1 and 2 buttons, and the 0 button turns off everything in the living room on a short delay (so I can walk out of the room and everything will turn off behind me). Just a fun, cheap, and easy way to turn my dumb TV remote into a smart home controller 😅
Cool ideas! Do you know if there are light bulbs or timer systems that you can set an “away” schedule to when you’re away on vacation for example, that would simulate people still being in the home by switching lights or devices like a tv on and off at different times but not always at the same times?
For me personally, adjustable colour temp is the only feature besides basic dimming that actually offers a benefit. All "colourful" lights do is turn an otherwise appealing room into a cheap massage parlour. But to each their own 😀
I really like my color lights. However I struggle to find uses for them, without getting too complicated. I use them on my own but it always annoys the family. I appreciate these ideas.
How did you manage to use the Streamdeck to open your Unifi protect video feed like that? Every time I open a browser window for my Dream Machine Pro it requires me to log in first.
4:40 - If you have pets that aren't allowed in the bedroom (like us), you could create a timer helper in HA that would keep the hallway lights activated for a certain amount of time. 5:29 - I have a similar notification set up that if I'm using the air conditioner or heater in our office, that my wife won't turn on the coffee maker (and trip the circuit) - as these are on the same circuit. For the shower, are you using some type of water temperature sensor (if so, which one), or a sensor that is checking the ambient temperature in the shower?
Hi really inspiring video. I have an automation where my lights turn on when I arrive home however this turns on whenever I arrive home. I am trying to restrict the automation to after sunset and before sunrise only but cannot find a way at all. Do you know if there is a way?
Phillips has something called warm glow bulbs I think, which get warmer as they dim. Unfortunately the range isn't very wide and even at full brightness they aren't the daylight style bulb I want. Hopefully somebody can make something like this in the future. I want a "dumb" led bulb for my smart switch, that changes temp with brightness automatically so I can have my daylight lighting during the day and my soft warm light at night. (And it would make for a great "sunrise" light alarm)
I'm looking for a reliable smart switch with Europe dimensions - 80mm by 80mm (single and double gang). Something that can work with regular bulbs without having to change all the bulbs in the house, while still looking like a regular switch. I would love to use Kasa smart switch but it does not fit the European switch dimensions. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
4:50, instead of that, I use a Eufy battery powered motion sensor light. I just mouthwash it to the wall and it lights the floor, so it's perfect for the night as it doesn't turn everything on super bright, just the floor. And then I use rechargeable batteries. (Yes, they're Eufy lights, BUT, they DO NOT have wifi access, a camera, or anything fancy. Just a motion sensor and light sensor powered by batteries. )
Thank you for another great, informative video. I had been using a piece of tape on my light switch so those covers are great. And I never put together how using the cool vs warm could help. I will check this out and see if it helps.
I used a Inovelli smart dimmer for a couple of years with Smartthings. It quit working manually & Inovelli has since supporting it so now it’s useless. I have another Inovelli dimmer Red series, that is still working but Smartthings is going over to Edge drivers with local control, dropping the Groovy IDE interface so I’m not sure that the Red series switch will work natively with SmartThings, aggravating!
ok, and what aboutn when is before night but sun is nice, not for shades down? In my opinion LUX sensor outside works great! i did it for my home and this is life changer!
I’m curious about changing color temperature. Is that possible with caseta switches, smart bulbs, and home assistant? I’m in the planning stages now, but have the caseta switches.
Yes, kinda. Look at the HA Adaptive Lighting function, but you still have the challenge that the Caseta switch can kill power to the smart bulb.. the Caseta Aurora switch works with smart bulbs, but it is a different style from the rest of the Caseta line.
ommunity please help, i have momentary rocker switches, with every push they pass thru 24v to an relay. (push on push off). I can't find any solution to make this work with zigbee. crucial I remain the original switches and the control via HomeAssistant. help thanks!
Reed I have a question, what smart switch should I use? I am trying to find some for 10$, IKEA seems good but I need a hub for IKEA devices. Can I get some cheap smart buttons that don't need a hub? (I am living in Europe, but not in European Union so I can't really use Amazon or whatsoever)
Thanks for the great ideas. We've stuck with Kasa receptacles and wall switches so far since we only have Alexa, but I'm debating if I want smart bulbs to automate the can lights in our front hallway or if I want to install the Kasa three-way dimmer lights. I'm not a big fan of the Decora light switches, and both locations are part of multi-gang switch covers, so they'd look weird. My primary goal is having the hallway lights turn on but not at full power when I open the front door at night.
I'm actually thinking about going away from smart bulbs. I have HUE in master bedroom and living room connected to alexa in living, Apple Homepad in bedroom. Getting a lot of times they don't want to turn on/off with voice command. It's really frustrating in bedroom when you walk into a room that's pitch dark and they won't respond to command. I even added the HUE smart button inside the door in the master bedroom and even that sometimes doesn't respond.
I compromise on the LED Globes. You can get "Cool white" and "Warm White" but you can also get some that have a 3500K colour temperature instead of 2700K of Warm White. The 3500 is intermediate, or natural white. It seems to be a good compromise between Cool White and Warm White
hey man im starting on my smart home im just 17 and i have 2 smart LED strips a google home and a chromecast and apple tv no more. i need some improvements and some renovations on my brand new room. but im scared of buying things and having 20 different apps on my phone or that the smart devices dont connect with each others
I’ve seen that your setup you ikea switch to turn on a smart bulb to red when your working. I’m trying to set this up at my home but I’m a little lost. I have home assistant setup, I have a Govee bulb and my ikea switch but I’m not sure how to set this up. Could someone please help me with this.
Ok I hope you can help me. I have short term rentals and I like to turn lights on for my guests when they are arriving late. Currently I’m using a smart light outlets called geeni. The problem is I lose control of them when the guests turns the lights off on the floor lamp when they arrive. I then have to remember to tell my cleaner to turn the floor lamp on when she cleans and then I’ll turn it right back off so it’s set back up so I can turn it back on when the next guest is arriving late. Is there anything out there that gives me control all the time via an app?
I would use one of your lights that's controlled via a wall switch, like your front entry or hall or foyer light. Replace the wall switch with a smart one then it can be controlled via the app or the physical switch independently.
I noticed that you are using the exact same kind of lamp that I have 2 of, on my desk, with smart bulbs in them. I bought them years ago and they have been the perfect inexpensive lamp that can basically be put anywhere that is also great for smart bulbs. Interesting to see that I'm not the only one thinking of smart solutions when it comes to lighting. I have even shot video using those same 2 lamps where I had people convinced that I shot it in the middle of the day. Using the light's reflection off my blinds I could diffuse it and really bring up the brightness in a shot and my office in general. I now use LED's around the office but I still have those same 2 lamps sitting on my desk with smart bulbs in them to light my office. Just funny to see them in your video when they are sitting right underneath this monitor, same color, same position, the only thing different is that I have my set to a certain color currently.
Hello everyone, could someone tell me how to get all these devices, scenes, and automations working in harmony since they are from different manufacturers? I know it can be done with Home Assistant, but I understand that "Smart Home Solver" doesn't exclusively use Home Assistant.
Hello i want to automate my toilet light. Fir example if someone is inside the toilet the light goes red, if there is no one in the toilet the light goes green. How can i do that?
Anyone have any input on the innovelli switchas? I've seen a bunch of people who ordered the 1st batch of the blue switches and then get frustrated and turn around and sell them off. I was gonna order 30 of them to replace all my instseon switches, but right now. I'm kinda glad I held off.
Hopefully this gave you some smart light ideas! I linked everything in the description in case you want to check it out 👍

They do have their uses. I have an occupancy sensor for the bathroom with an RGB bulb

Agree..home lights should be simple
@@tradehut2782 nah, where’s the fun in that? 😂
I really like the colorful lights. It allows you to give a lot of personality and uniqueness to the room. But as you said, to each their own.
Got more smart lighitng ideas!! I love the warm and cool light part!! Help a lot!!

Where did you get the .stl for that lamp? I’d love to print one out for work 😊
Thanks for always putting out great videos. I would love to see an updated smart light bulb comparison video again!
Great lighting ideas. All lighting looks better in person, but you did a good job of conveying the looks of the different lights!
Looks like the future is getting brighter reed. 😍💡
Awesome ideas, as usual! Will definitely be trying some of these
Great videos! can you help review Amazon Basics 3-way dimmer switch? don't know how to install

Can a Stream Deck be used without it being connected to a PC?? I would like to use one to control my lights and Routines.
Great stuff as usual, Reed. Thanks for sneaking in a pic of the baby - she's adorable, of course, just like her sisters.
Whats the lamp on the left from you in the sections where you only talk? I really like it! Thank you
