You did a great job! A well thought out and balanced home is the epitome of comfort, love, safety and peace. Keep up the good work! Denise from the U.S.A. (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to be exact!)
I rarely comment on youtube, but after looking for videos about lighting all day, this is the most useful, helpful video I’ve come across. Thank you for posting and explaining these concepts!
Really interesting video. During lockdown I realized that smart bulbs are a lifesaver, since I have only one room for working and sleeping, the bright white light helped me stay awake during winter and work, and in the evening I dimmed it and changed it to cozy yellow to get into sleeping mode (+ screen color changers like f.lux) and it really helped me to keep a good rhythm :)
Blue White light , 6000 K, helped me immensely in fighting winter blues in the north. I only use it in the morning and the bulbs are very bright. In the evening I only use very warm, dimmed indirect light.
Great video! Loved how you provided a comprehensive lesson on home lighting, with clear examples. I'd be interested in a video about choosing artwork and decor, and distributing it throughout the spaces in a harmonious manner in a way that adds, rather than detracts, from the whole look.
Great tips. A lot of people have horrible lighting in their homes. Only a very bright and cold ceiling lamp etc. My parents always had different smaller light sources in our home and it was always cosy.
It would be great if you could please do a video on the 60-30-10 rule. I understand how balancing out your colour palette in this way makes for a cohesive space that is easy on the eyes… but I have trouble with working out what items the “60%” should apply to and so on.
I hope you found your answers in the meantime. if not, maybe this helps: You can use this "rule" for every aspect of design (design means, not "what" we do, but "how" we do it). for Interior Design, It starts with your intention of the space. Lets say you have a three room apartment, and want to combine living with dining room. Lets say you want big focus on the social interactions. So stuff like the sofa & dining table would be the biggest aspects of the room, maybe crossing "highways" in some way, and would have aspects of your "main colour" on your chosen palette. f.e: if your maincolour is green, sofa could be green, and the cushions on the dining seats could be green. Having a small space ? no problem: brighter sofacolour (maybe your secondary colour, or something neutral), and big sofa cushions with your main colour green. the third, or "accent" colour would be decoration. You can apply the same principle with lighting. Its all about your intention with the space! Want to combine your workspace with a small living/chillout area ? well. use your maincolour green on the wall where your desk is, use plants .... and in this case, you could use lighting as main source of routing your attention: Big lamp, spotlight of some sort, and/or very suttle/additional lighting in the small chillout area, the seat/sofa of that area in the secondary colour, third colour sprinkled in the room with decor (your wallpaper, whats on display, etc.). Obviously these are just examples, and you have to evaluate your own space and intentions, how and what colours suits your place, etc. So, see the 60% as your main focus of attention. If the space is for working, dont put a heavy flaming red sofa and a flatscreen in the same room, taking up 2/3 of the room. I highly recommend thinking about your intentions of space, before you start with colours. How you define spaces, and place interiour plays an even bigger role imo. I hope this helps!
As someone just purchased and moved in to our own home, your videos are so educational, thorough, and easy to follow! Thank you for making these videos, they really make this process so much less daunting and more interesting and fun! Thank you Reynard
I was JUST thinking about how I’d really appreciate a video about properly lighting a space (we’re moving soon and I’m really excited about all the possibilities!) and this showed up at the perfect time. These tips are GREAT! I love how you described the how and the why behind different types of light/lighting. I’ll be coming back to this video again and again, I’m sure.
Reynard…thank you so much for teaching me about lighting. I knew what I liked I just didn’t know what it was called nor where to get it. I love ambient lighting and I love lamps and warm tones.I really don’t care for overhead ceiling lights but you’ve shown me the necessity of them and another way to use them as well. I love the fact that I can have the same music that will flow in every room of my home,as well as featuring some of the latest innovations in sound. Thank for sharing your expertise👍🏾
My evening atmosphere tonight is so nice now that you've taught me to avoid mismatching color temperatures. It so happens the stove top light and bathroom light have the same temperature, so with just those 2 warm lights far away from the window, I can see the lights of the buildings outside 👍❤❤
I'd like to add that cold white/ "daylight" bulbs can be useful for brightening up dark rooms at daytime, whether it be because the room is very large, has few windows or is on a north side, or you just need light to work. On a bright and sunny day, the blue light will seem natural (like "bringing more sun" into the room), at night, warm white will feel more natural.
What you are referring to is called circadian lighting, and it's being implemented and healthcare and nursing home facilities. Artificial daylight during the day helps maintain energy, and towards the end of the day the warmer light tells the body to slow down for eventual sleep.
Great point. Ive discovered this after endlessly experimenting with my smart bulbs. Soft white during the day with the sun shining through the windows feels more natural and energetic without being too harsh. And warm lights at night feels more relaxing and calming. The "orange" color setting on my particular bulbs produce a very warm light that works really well. Although orange can sometimes have too much red in it to create a relaxing ambiance, with these particular bulbs its more of a very warm white.
Thanks to this video I was finally able to fix the lighting temperature in our home. Incorporating warm white lightings in our room indeed made it more cozy. Keep on doing more videos like this :)
Fantastic video to help me with selecting lighting for the remodel of my home. I’m literally meeting the electrician and contractor this afternoon to go over the lighting and electricity plan. I love brass and matte black, will you please speak on how to incorporate different finishes in a home so that it still looks cohesive? For example, should I avoid mixing all together in the entirety of the home? Or maybe designate specific areas for a pop of color? (Such as bathroom with brass and bedroom with matte black)
Very good video! Appreciated the simple and strong focus on think in the explanation. I really like the quite slower description with images but almost no blank spots of speech. :)
I'd like to see a video about colored lighting (not just whites) for living spaces! I make use of smart LED bulbs that have color options and it can make for some very interesting combos when you transition colors from one side of a living space to another (i.e. red on one side blue on the other and a nice purple hue in between.
Whilst I knew all of these points, having someone break them down so methodically and put them into their own category so I can’t use that information helpfully has just (do in date say flicked a switch for me? I’d love if you did a video on how to use lighting to make dark jewel tone coloured walls work in a small room. I love the theatre and drama of these colours but I’m not sure how to gauge how they will look in a room that had standard windows and standard ceiling heights. Any approaches, from any angle, are welcome.
I love this video! The music and your narration is cozy and relaxing. I also love how you illustrate all of the concepts you explain. I'm going to be renting soon, and the tips you provided will help me a lot. Subscribed my friend!
This was great. I got all the information I was needing from your video. Your presentation was professional and pleasant to watch. Good job! And, thank you.
I really enjoy your videos, they have helped me understand the science and art of creating an aesthetic and functional room. I have the couch right behind the table and there's no room to have a conversation area. Thanks!
Love this video so much!! It is such a struggle for me to do lighting designs, as I do not have a false ceiling to play with. But with this video, really learned a lot more! Thanks so much!!!

Love your videos! They are concise with a lot of info. I really like that you give us examples of what you are telling us. The examples in this video were fantastic. As with almost all your videos I watch them multiple times as there is so much information. Your voice cadence is perfect, not too fast making it difficult to comprehend or too slow that we feel frustrated.
The beautifully made video gave me on-point tips and tricks which I could use for my new home. Thanks so much! Really, amazing video content with visual examples.
Wonderful to see your face !👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽Great video as usual, your space always looks so cozy! Thanks to you, I've been working on the lighting in my home. More of these please!

Yes, this is a very good point! The color produced can be slightly different depending on the quality of the bulbs.

Now I know that I might like XYZ but it won’t work with my current situation and how to change it (all) up. Great content. New sub from Brisbane👌
This is actually an incredibly helpful video thank you! I didn't find this kind of information anywhere else.
I have way too much Phillips hue and I love it.
Bagus sangat menginspirasi...
banyak hal yang harus di perhatikan oleh kita tentang pencahayaan nya... terimakasih🙏
Gr8 Video, Very detailed Description, It’s like i read a book on concept of lights in minutes,ty🙏
I really enjoy your videos, they have helped me understand the science and art of creating an aesthetic and functional room. I would love a video on living/dining room combo in a small space, as i am struggling to utilize my space correctly. I have the couch right behind the table and there's no room to have a conversation area. Thanks!
This is giving me so much inspiration, thank you! I definitely want to check out the LED color changing bulbs
Incredibly informative. Thanks.
Very informative video Reynard. thanks for sharing would love to see more of these on other interior & exterior home elements and spaces.
I like the tip about layering. Thank you!
Love this video so much!! It is such a struggle for me to do lighting designs, as I do not have a false ceiling to play with. But with this video, really learned a lot more! Thanks so much!!!
That was great, comprehensive and conceptual, yet also full of practical tips. Excellent, can't believe it's only your second video of this type. And I am hard to please!
Really good and informative video. Clicked on it randomly and watched the whole thing. thank you.
Great vid but I wish there were more visual examples kind of like the makeover video examples
Wonderful to see your face !👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽Great video as usual, your space always looks so cozy! Thanks to you, I've been working on the lighting in my home. More of these please!
Thanks so much! 😊 Will keep them coming.
Great video, really helped me as a beginner!
Finally found the video I needed. thank you for all the efforts put into this.
This is fascinating and so well done in every way. Subscribed.
Thank you so much for this I learned a lot. The lamps that can be adjusted from your smartphone is nice. I'll look it up
Informative and totally understandable--yet, I haven't considered lighting as great way of tying together the atmospheric feeling of the room. I now have an appreciation for the importance of layering light. Thanks! I would love to see a video on decorating a room with high ceiling. This is my current remodeling challenge. Ugh.
