    The crap backlight in the F-91W is part of its charm.

      i don’t love the f-91w i got mine this this past christmas and it’s the only watch that doesn’t bother my wrist, its very very very useful and durable and i don’t see why he says “ the edges are more difined, the angular cut outs are the only different part and i’ve dinged and hit my f-91w up quite a lot and it has never scratched! it looks like it does but if you rub it with a shirt sleeve it’s gone😂! but that’s just my opinion and say, it’s different for everyone i know everything isn’t the same!!

    I work in security in the UK and have had the W-86 for a year or so now. I work 6 12hr night shifts out of every 8 so it lives on my wrist as it's tough, durable, functional, reliable, comfortable, rarely gets in the way, and costed me £8 from Amazon.
    I own other nicer watches which I will switch to occasionally on my days off if I have made social plans but otherwise it only comes off the wrist during bath of shower time when I will wash it (submerged) and dry it again before I then wash myself!
    I actually miss it when I have nicer watches on because of the functionality and how at home it feels on the wrist.
    One year when the battery dies I will replace the battery instead of the watch just out of sentiment and worst case scenario if it needs replacing I can always afford to. The watch that loves you more than it loves it'self!

    I think main draw of F91 is that it's an absolute legend, and a childhood memory for many - for a price of a meal in your fastfood place of choice. I got one just to be in a collection. Wear it around house doing chores and such, it virtually weighs nothing. Might as well not be there. But as I've said beyond simplicity and hilariously low price - it's just a part of pop culture people like to have. There are better digital watches. There are better digital watches from Casio. But there's only one watch you wore when you were 7. When summers seemed to last forever, and life was worry-free. And for many it was the F91.

    Got one on my wrist right now. Been running about six years now without a battery change and still seems fine. No complaints at all (other than the fact I wouldn’t be especially confident getting it wet), especially considering it costs basically nothing.

    • @MuscleBandit
      @MuscleBandit 2 роки тому +2

      They are perfectly fine in water unless you get really unlucky or consistently spend hours pushing the buttons while the watch is submerged.
      I take mine off before bath time and chuck it into the bubble bath for a few minutes before I get in myself, wash it before i wash myself, then leave it to dry while I wash, then towel dry the watch and we're both good to go!
      Also, there is a russian guy who pressure tests all manor of watches in an underwater pressure chamber watch goes to thousands of bar of pressure, it's amazing how deep under water casio watches can go before they start to fail, most can go deeper than the deepest scuba divers can safely dive to so they are fine to take swimming etc unless you get really unlucky with a Monday watch. Enjoy.

    • @nplus1watches35
      @nplus1watches35 2 роки тому +1

      I have the F-91W, F-105, and W-86 (thanks to Ben) and I'd say the 91 and 105 are very similar except for the backlight, with the 86 being slightly larger in every dimension so has a bit more wrist presence. As stated the 86 is the only one that says it has 5 bar WR, though I bet if you wanted to push your luck you could probably go do 5 bar activities (i.e. swimming) w/ the 91 or 105 and they'd be just fine. It's a bummer that the 86 appears to be an EU (or maybe UK) market watch so you really have to go looking under a bunch of rocks to get this at a reasonable price (for what it is) if you live in North America. At a little over 20something grams, all of these watches pretty much disappear on the wrist, small or not.

    This was a good video, but there _is_ one extremely big key problem:

    The W-86 is essentially an F-91W with a light modification yet the F-91w is still the world's best selling watch. That tells you that the F-91w is more than just a watch. It genuinely is an icon of our times. It's gone beyond just being a watch into being God tier. Not many watches manage that.

    I have tried both the W96 and the F91W. I lean towards the F91W more, it is just a tiny bit more svelt and comfortable.
    Sure the light on the W96 is vastly superior, and so is the water resistance is better. But day to day I've not noticed that the water resistance matters. I've even dived down to 10 metres with an F91W without any problem and I've paddle boarded all summer long without issues either.

    This is a nice watch, although I personally see two downsides. The first one being that it is not so easy to find one. I have not found any available stock outside the UK. In Europe on Amazon and eBay is out of stock at the moment. The second one is the price. On Amazon the F91 retails for €15 to €19, whereas this one would cost on Amazon (I have checked with a price tracker) around €25-29 and the official Casio retail price would be €29 / £29. It is not THAT cheap, comparing to the F91.

    It would be great if Casio made a larger version of the f91w. for now we'll have to make do with this or the w217h as alternatives. I have both the f91 and w217h. Definitely prefer the latter as the f91 looks a bit small on my wrist. Still wear it now and again purely for nostalgia 🤣

    - Timer

    W201 (1st choice, more below) and W800 beat them and their relatives at pretty much the same price, plus have noticeably improved water-resistance ratings of 50 and 100 meters!
    The W800 is much tougher and has better functions. It is 100 meter water-proof, approaching G-Shock case ruggedness with clean and simple shape, calendar fully programmed to 2099 (no adding 29th day in leap years), etc.
    BUT the one to get is the W201, which is more accurate, both in the catalogue, and in real life. I usually set it about once or maybe twice a year, and it was never more than half a minute off!
    It is still OK for 50 meters, so splash and swimming proof, and it also has that calendar out to 2099, which the much simpler F105W and relatives (F91W, W86, etc) do not.
    I had a W201 for about 15 or 20 years as a work beater, and it took major abuse some people would cringe at with a G-Shock! I finally tossed it when the battery died (WAY longer than 10 years!), it was totally scratched up (NOT, it actually buffed out!), and the strap had broken off. I wish I had kept it and just put a new battery in and strap on it :)
    NO extruding buttons (they are flush!), not squarish but gently curved oval sides, totally snag free, small, MOST accurate Casio in the under 100 Dollar range with some of the analog types (like the MQ24- series, have the 7B2 model, great beater, easy to read) at +/-20 secs per month, when all others are spec'd at +/- 30 secs/month.
    BTW: that totally clean and edge free shape makes the W201 THE ideal nurse's and doctor's watch, because aside from it being impossible to get hung up anywhere, it is so easy to clean! The larger Casios are easier to read with their bigger displays, but the nonsensical "sporty" shapes with all their protruding edges and nooks and crannies do have their draw-backs, like retaining blood spatters after a whack-job ... oops, I mean, bacteria and such, when you are supposed to be digging in somebody's ... never mind!!!

    My F105 backlight is great. On the other hand, the straps are cheap like the F91. It's not water-rated rated at 50M, but I've warn them while kayaking for 20+ years and never had a problem.

    Casio W202. Same case shape as oldschool Marlins, countdown timer, 4 button module, 50m WR, awesome light, retro-futuristic design that somewhat resembles Rick Deckard's Microma watch from Blade Runner. A full package for reasonable price. The only real downside for me is ridiculously long strap (luckily, it's easily replaceable).
