- As simple as this sounds, there's still folks that either don't know how to change their oil, or don't change it enough.
This is very basic, but maybe there's something that may help in this video.
Here's a link to the Best Tool tool:

LHT the only channel ill stop and watch a 15 minute video on how to change oil. Thanks guys, keep it up.
You guys get this all the time, but I can’t stress enough how relieving it is to see a shop actually do quality work and care about the s2000 as the timeless gem it is. Keep up the fantastic work LHT! Wish you guys were in California.
Thanks LHT -TLC, 👍 I don't know what I would do with my S2000 without you guys, Jon and George..I bought an 02 S2K with 156k miles 💙 for $17,200 silver and black. I wanna bring it down to you guys in Jan or Feb, driving from Charlotte NC..and get stuff done, looking forward to meeting you guys, God bless you all..thanks Jon, for everything.
I love how ppl go buy a $600 intake but debate spending $30 for quick oil change.
Same thing with cheap brakes pads vs. downshifting addiction. I must be getting old! lol
Ty for going over the basics!!!
LOL So many of my friends think I’m nuts because I do the same thing with my oil filters by adding oil to my filters before I put the new filter on the motor. Nice to know I’m not the only one that does it.
Congrats on 18k viewers John. You guy are definitely growing. Keep up the amazing work guys.
Been using that filter tool for over 15 years, a must have tool.
I have had this tool since 1997, The year after we opened.
Greetings from England. Thanks for all your videos. I am recent S2000 owner never had one before but had classics for 49 yrs.
Awesome buddy, it’s a great car and I think you’ll love it. Thanks for watching the channel.
Just picked up an AP2 will be changing my oil this weekend using your method. Keep the s2000 content coming!!! Great Job LHT!!!
Congrats. Enjoy it.
LHT!!! By far the best at what they do! Keep the vids coming !
I like the futomoto drain valves, makes changing oil effortless. Also I didn't hear it mentioned, but the s2k filter has numbers (1-8) to mark 8ths of turns. Factory spec is 6-7/8ths of a full turn after contact of the seal. On mine, when I install from the top, this typically means the "3" on the filter is vertical (up), and I should continue to spin until it is between the "1" and "2" ie 6/8ths to 7/8ths of a full revolution. ;) . The notation of 8ths is also mentioned in the owners manual.
Love it! I bought the socket style filter tool and it suuuuuucks!! I’m heading to the store tomorrow to buy this. Thank you!!
My 16 Macan Turbo with the 3.6 V6 Twin Turbo has responded best to Liqui Moly for me. Not saying it's the best, just what I personally have had best results with here in Costa Rica. Just picked up a 03 AP1 with 53k KM and about to put Liqui Moly in that also. Mobil 1 is great too and the brand Porsche is paid to recommend. Love your channel, thank you for all the help.
I tried the oil filter tool recommended. I can see where it would be excellent if you are coming at the filter from underneath the car. But, if you don't have a lift, and you are coming at the filter from above, this tool is very difficult to use in my opinion. The space available coming from above is very tight. it is very fiddly to hold the ratchet and tool together and fit it to the filter. It is very easy to drop the tool and if you so srop it - it falls into your drain oil pan and splashes all over the place. There are better/easier alternatives.
Great video! Will definitely refer back to this video when I do my own oil changes 🙂
Its easier to get to the filter from the topside for me anyway, 15w 50 is a bit thick ; but you guys are in a warm climate, Keep up,the great work,
A cold day in Florida doesn't last long. 15W 50 was by the customers request.
@@LHTPerformance which oil do you recommend using for 2005 honda s2000?
Can't beat fresh golden nectar! Strangely satisfying. I use Millers CFS 10w 60 in my fully forged Hawk STi 20073-4k miles usually. Doesn't get tracked. The genuine oil filters are so tiny, black in colour.
Thanks for the info, Love your Vids and subscribed to your channel 3 weeks ago, I'm in AZ but im gonna figure out a way to get my White AP1 to you guys. just ordered the oil filter wrench! Keep the vids coming even if they're repetitive; myself and others will still watch'em. Ive been buying everything in your vids and appreciate you sharing the part numbers with viewers. AWESOME! Thanks
Can you do one on the VTEC solenoid gasket replacement? Thanks for all the great videos!
Hey John, what do you think about a Fomoto valve to replace the 17mm screw? Love mine, I put a 12" vinyl tube to drain right back into an old gallon container.
Very informative. Thankyou John!
I have that same oil filter tool, it's the best 👍
Great tool that filter tool .there are two size for that tools ,white line suspension product made in Australia 🇦🇺 👍🏼
Hi john. Ive notice youre using a 15w50 oil on this video for this s2000. I use 10w30 on mine. Im just curious when and why do you use 15w50 oil? I want to expand my knowledge from the best s2000 tuner ive seen. Hehehe.
Great video, but it's a common misconception that if oil is dark, it's too old or dirty. That's not necessarily true, it just means that it's doing it's job by collecting contaminants. It's best to go by mileage/driving environment based on the the type of oil and manufacture recommendation.
The oil will get dark for 2 main reasons. One, the Detergents in the oil doing their job. Two, The combustion blow by caused by leaking rings or a very rich mixture. . On a very good motor the oil will stay very clean for 2000+ miles.
I use Motul 10W40 on my worn out, 5 owner Civic EP2 D16V1 180.000 km. Accord CL7 will be next, I hope. Change every 10.000km which I think is acceptable for a knocker. I use a sin, I use a ceramic additive, which helped tbh.
I use Valvoline Full Synthetic but it doesn't really matter what oil you use. Well it kind of does matter, but as long as it's the correct viscosity that's it, and changing it on time is also very important.
Next: Timing Belt Tensioner replacement 😁
Won't help for turbo or supercharged S2000's, but if you have a cold-air intake like the AEM ones with the filter down in the bumper, you have tons of room from above to change the oil without ever raising the car off the ground. Can easily access the filter and drain bolt from above - just push your drain pain into place below the car and get 'er done.
Thanks for the great tips :) Golden advice at 12:00
Do you recommend more frequent oil changes with FI? Thanks for the tips, especially about the filter wrapping. Makes you wonder about those other filters that only come in a box, what kind of debris are bouncing around in there. Another reason to use OEM parts.
Great video!
I would love to see a radiator swap video.. 😉
I’m running Mobil 1 cause of Costco deal, but my switch to Castrol SYN. Seems like Castrol doesn’t burn as quick
Last time I change my oil I use LIQUIMOLLY FLUSH and then put the oil in it.... did you recommend this flush some say it is bad for the rigns ... my is a Civic Si 2008 sedan with 100,000 km (I just used once ....)
Suggest torquing the s2000 oil filter to spec (especially if tracking the car). Unless you have hulk hands like LHT, it will be under tightened and it’s no good for the s2000s high revving engine (filter may come off). See S2Ki for more.
This is true. I do have some shovels on the end of my arms...lol
There is no way you get that filter tight enough with just your hand, the correct spec is even printed on the filter itself (7/8 turns from rubber seal contact or 16 ft lbs) how hard is that to miss?
Oh and that oil filter tool seems pretty useless since it's just for loosening.
@@andersw1152 that’s what I was wondering if this tool could be used with a torque wrench
I use Amsoil
Cowboy Soule Like I say, use you favorite oil and change it regularly
I really wish you guys would do more superchargers on the Civic Si. I might just have to drive mine from NC so you have one to work on lol. Hopefully one day
Well, We can only do as many as people bring to us...lol I think we've done about 5 8th gen and 3 9th Gen Civics.
Hi John, would you use an s2000 oil filer on a K24? Ive seen ppl talked about it before but dont know if I should just stick with the normal ones
In Summer I change on Motul 5w40 in Poland
Say one didn't want the Honda brand filter, but wanted the larger filter mentioned. What car would you buy it for? reason is I hate the Dealerships they're all a bunch of jerks.
I've seen videos were they compare oem Honda filters and frams with pretty much similar components
I have heard the Fram manufacture the Honda Filter.
My Wife car have almost 160,000 miles. The engine is a 1.6L
Can I put 15w-50 Engine Oil or thats too much?
Also I live in Largo,FL that means no crazy winter cold
And one more thing
My Daily Car have 220,000 miles is a Honda Accord 2.2L Vtec and I found that with 10w-30 the engine make just a little bit of noise
Do you recommend me to use a thicker Engine Oil for My Daily?
If you hardly drive, say you put 1k miles in a 3 month span. Should you still replace the oil or wait till you’ve driven 3k?
That may be a little excessive . I would do every 6 months.
Did pcx 004 part number change to pcx 306? Local Honda dealer is telling they don't carry pcx 004 anymore
15400-PCX-004. I’m looking at one right now.
where should the level be inbetween the two dots on the dipstick
Is 15w 50 what you run on boosted s2000 only? Or would you use it on an n/a also?
For any other s2000 owners, this is the tool you want (www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002INTYQ8/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1518017733&sr=8-16&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=honda+oil+filter+tool). It is a perfect fit over the OEM filter (non-adjustable) and only costs $2 on Amazon. It is high quality and I just used it to change my oil this weekend
Change oil annually or every 9000 miles, whichever is first. 4500 oil and filter service is an optional service if the vehicle is being used in extreme operating conditions.
I would never go that long between changes if I liked the vehicle......
Why? These are the recommendations from Honda, and if anything oils have improved as time goes on. Have you done any oil analysis?
I'm not trying to sell you on oil changes. I'm just sharing my opinion. But if you're going 9K between your changes, I would never buy your car. Remember, The oil is the biggest bearing in your engine, The oil is the only thing keeping metal on metal contact. Car companies will also like to make their car look more friendly with the EPA, Less oil use per X amount of miles makes them look a little more green.
No link to oil filter tool! Thanks
I live in California. Can 10/30 be ok?
I use Honda Genuine Oil in my S2000. Change very 3k-3.5k
Can you trust the Honda OEM for sale on Amazon??? Or better to go to the dealer
Vince Fassi I would go to Honda dealer. I’m amazed how much fake stuff is out there. There’s fake NGK plugs out there’s that’s falling apart in motors now. Unbelievable 🤷♂️
Thoughts on replacing oil filter every other oil change? A couple of my mechanic friends say if you use the correct filter, your oil filter's material is upwards of 95% uncontaminated and changing it every oil change is overkill and a waste of money. Not too sure of what to think of that..
Oil and filter companies will advertise higher mileage as part of their advertisement. I will never push my oil, it's the only real bearing in your engine.
Thanks for replying guys, ill be sure to change the filter every oil change.
Mobile 1 all day
question: for a high mileage honda engine what do you recommend for cleaning varnish and deposits in the cylinder head/ block after a previous owner neglected oil change intervals?
i was thinking about using a decent synthetic and shortening the intervals and adding some marvel mystery oil just before the oil change. Also looking into Auto RX, do you ahev experience with either products or do you have other suggestions?
thanks!
you forgot the link
I use mobile one 10w30 on a b20b in my Civic Coupe I live in Alabama
In colder climates, I would typically run 5W 30 if the motor is in good condition.
LHTPerformance thank you
15w-50 ? oil weigh ? can you explain please ?
vietcong4u “weight” but in reality it’s density
Instructed by the owner, The heavier old helps with a motor that consumes oil. Also, The Mobil 1 15W 50 has a little more zinc content and recommended for track days .
Me personally I add new oil and let it drain till it’s fully gold
Need that link to oil filter tool, I think you may have forgot to add it! Haha
Guess I could just look it up, I'll do that.
I put the part number in the video.
Ended up finding one ,thanks for the tip. Looks like it'll work much better than my strap wrench!
do you have the regular or wide range? thanks
I posted the part # at 2:32. The brand is Lisle 63600
15w50 ???!!! That's for tractors. In the manual they say 5w40. There's a huge difference between them
Troll Profi For a higher mileage motor is helps reduce burn off. Also offers a higher zinc level. Hence why it’s used at the track a lot.
@@LHTPerformance i use Motul Sport 5W40 ester. Thing is doesn't burn almost nothing between changes. Very well maintained stock car.
Eneos
AMSOIL
Gary Sbraccia ‘Dave’s special blend racing oil’ is the best.
Every 3k is excessive and a waste of money especially for synthetic. This is proven!!!
Well, It depends how you drive and the engine condition. If the motor is in good condition and you haven't any combustion blow by . Also, All highway miles, you can stretch the oil further. But stop and go short commutes will cause your oil to break down faster, condense more moisture and not burn off impurities. I can't give a case for everyone, but I change my oil often.
The advice to change oil more often when doing short journeys is even in the Honda schedule and it comes with reduced intervals for all fluid changes. Maybe not 3ks but every 1yr at least and less than 10ks for sure. If you track the car changing oil is cheap insurance as metioned. Anybody who's ever had to fix something big knows that.
First one herr lol
Bryan Rios who cares ,it’s old so get over it muppet
Gaz Girl jeez u like to stsrt up trouble dont u .. Chill out its not like i care so much about beinf first. But apprently u care enough to say something .. Get a life
Be cool, This is not a Civic meet. This is a community hang out for Car guys ;)
Next video how to wipe your ass lol joking I guess some people still don't know how to change oil.
Savage in the 6 I’ve been changing oil on my cars for 30 years and almost skipped this video. Glad I didn’t, that filter tool looks perfect.
Great, I hope these videos help. Even the people that's been doing this for years, you never know if someone has a different way. :)
exactly - and it's worth it just to watch the master at work! Keep up this great video series John!
