    Thanks for this.
    1:20 Since the eggs and potatoes take about the same time to cook, when making potato salad, I just put the eggs in the same pot as the potatoes, after the water is boiling. Saves a pot and burner.

    I am obsessed with Russian potato salad, it’s what I grew up with. (Boiled carrots, and pickles instead of cucumbers.) I just discovered that there’s a Japanese version, and am looking forward to trying it! Thank you for the recipe!

    Oh my! I didn't know how simple it is to make this salad. I made it just now and it's sitting in the fridge to chill. I had a taste of it and it tastes just like the ones I've had in Japanese restaurants. A million thanks for sharing this recipe with us. I'll be sharing your recipe with my Japanese foodie friends. 🙏

    I love this salad!! We make at Christmas eve in the Czech Republic and in Poland they call this type of salad a Russian salad. You just put in pickled cucumbers rather than fresh. 😍

    What would you say the main difference is with mayo vs Japanese mayo? As always, thanks for all the great receipes!

    • @restaurantman
      @restaurantman 2 роки тому +1

      Japanese mayonnaise has a thicker, creamier texture, and a more savory flavor. It uses egg yolks as compared to whole eggs. Additionally, Japanese mayonnaise is typically made with rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar, instead of distilled vinegar.

  • @janetnsafranca
    @janetnsafranca 3 роки тому

    Seems yummy. But i have a question, if we squeeze the carrots and cucumber in salt and rinse with water and squeeze, isn't it the nutrients will be wasted?

    • @justonecookbook
      @justonecookbook  3 роки тому +2

      The reason we salt is to withdraw moisture out. For the potato salad, if you don't do that, moisture will slowly release inside the potato salad and it will go bad. So it's very important step. It's not always 100% for nutrients, but it's used for texture, color, and some nutrients for sure.

    I like to watch your videos and I have already made a few recipes. Potato salad is also very popular in our country - we only cook potatoes with the skin, which we peel after cooking and cut the potatoes into cubes. We use pickled vegetables (carrots, celery, parsley, peas, corn, capers, onions ... and especially pickles). Who likes, even a small hot pepper. We also add Dijon mustard to the mayonnaise. :-)

      Спасибо за ваш отзыв! Я рассказывал об истории японского картофельного салата в блоге. Картофельный салат был впервые завезен в Японию из вашей страны и более 100 лет назад постепенно изменялся в соответствии с японским вкусом. Точно так же, как японская еда не очень традиционный стиль в вашей стране. 😃
