About the town: the story goes that those called "Goonies" live in the Goon Docks area, where the lower-class people live, and the upper-class live in an area known as Hillside. That's not only where Troy lives, but Andy as well, which is why she says that she's not a Goonie during the scene at the wishing well.
Yay!!!! Hello from America. This is so great to see one of my favorites being reviewed by you boys. Like many people, I have a deep fondness for "The Goonies". There is _nothing_ else like it, and in my estimation it's the greatest kids adventure film ever created. It has so much to love about it: charm, comedy, thrills, a super score, quotable dialogue, fantastic locations and sets, danger, and of course funny subtitles. I'm not sure why Hollywood has not tried to make a family adventure movie about kids that is comparable in quality to this flick. Not that they need to; "The Goonies" is a gem, and a movie I go back to time and time again-- like so many other fans of it also do. And there are *tons* of us, LOL. I was 19 when the movie came out so it wasn't exactly geared to my demographic, but it's so appealing and fun that the viewer can't help feeling like she/he is a kid again while watching. I have to give credit to the supporting cast. The villains in this are simply outstanding, as well as the deformed brother Sloth. Another important aspect is the music by Dave Grusin. It can be jaunty and fast, and it can be sweet and emotional ... just a top notch job there. Okay, I have to stop blabbering. I'm just so stoked about you guys discussing this delightful 80's film. Thanks.
The Goonies has the greatest dvd commentary ever - all the kids reunited as adults with Donner - and the split screen interaction of them watching their reaction to the movie is absolute gold.
Corey Feldman had an amazing career as a child actor. Friday the 13th part 4, Goonies, Lost Boys, Stand by me.,Gremlins and more. Most actors would kill to have that filmography in their entire career.
Perfect timing. Not very well and it's snowing outside, so heatings on tucked up with a cuppa tea watching off the shelf Goonies review. Time to relax 😊🍵 Thank you guys. 👍😁
One of the best movies from my childhood. The 80s certainly had some very memorable movies that were aimed at children and adults alike. If you haven’t seen this movie you need to, right now!
I always come back to this review. One of my favourite movies, even now at 37 years old. Just flawless. I just love the passion and love these guys have for all the same movies I do! Hands down the best movie reviwers on UA-cam. Please never stop the reviews guys!!!!!!
I always imagined this is a prequel to the James Bond movie, License To Kill. Robert Davi’s Sanchez before he escaped from the police (again). He escapes shortly after The Goonies movie. He goes to Miami, changed his identity to Franz Sanchez, became a drug lord and moves his operation to South America. It’s officially, The Goonies is part of the Timothy Dalton James Bond movie verse.
I was 8 years old when this movie came out and it was one of my favourite movies growing up! I must have watched it a dozen times at least. I’m pretty sure I had a movie crush on Kerri Green as well! It’s a real treat that you guys did a review of this movie, keep it up!😄
I remember watching the film as a kid, it just feels like you're right there going on an adventure in the looking for treasure as part of the goonies. I think that feeling is what makes this movie special.
I have a memory of watching this movie over and over with a friend of mine, a neighbor I watched with a lot of these classics. He left the town at one point... his dad had to sell the house. I never found any treasure map. (We went to the same uni tho, an happy ending of sort).
I was 10 years old when this was released on VHS here in Sweden, it gave my childhood so much joy, it was such a pleasure to watch this movie over and over and over again as a kid.
Besides Data mentioning the octopus, another thing from a deleted scene that's still mentioned in the film is Mouth thanking Stef for offering to save his life at the end. The deleted scene had Mouth and Stef on the end of the plank of the Inferno, and she offers to share her breath with him so they wouldn't drown right away. Another deleted scene has Andy recite "The Goonies Oath." With that shot of the other kids reacting to Data using the boxing glove on the ship, I think their reactions are from a deleted scene where Data uses an invention to make himself look bigger to try and scare off the Fratellis.
According to the commentary, Data's sister was played by Ke's niece. Some of the kids did see the ship prior to filming that scene. I know Corey and Sean Astin admitted to seeing a glimpse of it because someone left the stage door open. The first take of them turning around and seeing the ship was cut because Josh Brolin said "holy shit", so it had to be filmed again. It wasn't there real reactions but they did a good job of selling it. Also, those skeletons were fake, Richard Donner has the head of One Eye Willy in his office. There is also 2 times where Josh Brolin is called by his real name. The scene in the attic where Bran is playing with the lamp and Data says "don't touch it Josh", and then right after Mikey uses the fire poker and hits the floor he also calls Bran "Josh". They just left it in like they did a bunch of things. The Booby traps joke was something that really happened between Sean and Ke and they brought it to the set and it was kept in the film.
Ok...I remember the octopus scene most when I first watched it as a kid. I'm pretty sure one of the stations aired it with the scene put back in because it was definitely in the movie when I first saw it. I knew I wasn't crazy!
What a great review. It hit all the right spots. Back then, I couldn't but wonder how many other adventure movies we would get after The Goonies. To my dismay, the trend ended few years later. But what a great moment in cinema, that was.
WOW! I must've seen this movie many times and I never once picked up on the fact that, during the attic scene, Mikey began mouthing "Three. Two. One." as Chunk starts going off on another one of his stories while holding the laminated map before dropping it. Brilliant character continuity there, building off the accidental drop of the sculpture in the living room, which Mikey used to his advantage here. EDIT: That one movie the actor who played "Andi" did with John Candy when they were younger? It's called "Summer Rental". You should do an episode on that.
Although it is not my favorite movie ever, it is one of my favorites. My daughters (4 and 9) have and do enjoy it along with others such as Gremlins, which they love. As always, the reviews are awesome!
It's a great movie, one that can't be replicated and should NEVER be redone. I watched it when I was like 10 or something and I just fell in love with it. Totally agree that as one looks back, some viewers can say they were at one time just like one of the characters.
I must have watched this 500 times as a kid. Loved it. Recently watched it with my own kids so they would understand where Stranger Things got a lot of things from. They liked it, too.
Please review Q the Winged Serpent, Gojira, any version of King Kong, The Hitcher, The Collector, The Relic, Anaconda, the new It movies, and Jeepers Creepers
i was wondering if you were going to mention the octopus, I only saw that once on TV and had no idea why the hell I had never seen it before, now I'm wondering how a tv station managed to get that clip at the time and run it in the movie
I saw this flick in Canterbury (yes, I remember where lol!) in 1985, I was 12 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My parents even purchased the video game for my Atari 800xl computer. But today, it seems somewhat dated. The movie is really aimed at a teen audience, not adult. Maybe I've also grown up. One movie, on the other hand, which I did not see at the time of it's release in cinema and which I totally get as an adult is Ridley Scott's Legend. A masterpiece.
One of the movies largely responsible for my interest in writing films. I wrote the first act of 'The Goonies II' when I was 12 or 13 (and it wasn't too bad looking back on it, caught just about every character trait and mannerism). I sure wish I'd finished it, may have been a position to tout it once they started talking about a sequel. It's unlikely to have a sequel which, in truth, is a good thing looking at how they destroy loved properties so callously in today's Hollywood. Let it exist as it always has, one single brilliant movie.
@Abe Garfield Yeah I figured this was a case of rose-tinted glasses for me. Loved it as a kid but I reckon I'd switch it off if I watched it again now.
You guys should seriously review " Fire in the Sky " from like 1993 and " Communion" from 1989 ( with Christopher Walken" for Halloween this year. Both them freaked me out as a kid and a both " true" stories based on alien abductions
This isn't my favorite movie ever, nor do I think it's the best or highest quality movie ever. However, I think is the funniest, most FUN movie I have ever seen. With this movie, what else can you say? You're just in for a great time. Great music, hilarious characters, and a fun little adventure. The little tropes, and even mistakes, add to the charm of the film. Sean Astin said that the atmosphere for filming this film was so laid back, that it was just "a hoot" and it probably couldn't be recaptured now with all the money invested in filming.
I wish I've seen this movie as a kid, but I haven't unfortunately. I am sure it would be such an amazing experience to watch it beeing 10 for example :) But as you say, it is a kids movie which still works for grown ups, and I've enyoyed it overall. It takes you back, even if you haven't seen it as kid. Cheers guys!

YAY, MY REQUEST IS HERE!!! MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!! THANK YOU, GARY AND IAIN!!
Elijah Isaiah so agree. The Goonies is my favourite movie of all time
I'm pretty sure that the Goonies were jealous of Data because he got a chance to go on an actual adventure with Indiana Jones.
And drive a taxi!!! Goonies were stuck on bikes! Hella jealous!
And almost got killed by the thugee cult. "Kalima"
You call him Dr Jones
I honestly thought the hat worn by Jake Fratelli at the start is Indy’s fedora - like a Spielberg in gag

Corey Feldman nowadays is just a walking cautionary tale. Goonies is the greatest film to grow up with.

Thanks for reviewing The Goonies! An awesome classic!!! It never gets old! :)

Especially the pirate element of the film.
I'd love to see you guys build up "2010" someday via review. Probably the most underrated movie ever ( because of 2001) but it deserves some props

Loved seeing this at the cinema back in the day. A childhood favourite.
Even Sean Astin said that the octopus sequence sucked. Oh, and R.I.P. Sloth.
It's a great movie, one that can't be replicated and should NEVER be redone. I watched it when I was like 10 or something and I just fell in love with it.
Totally agree that as one looks back, some viewers can say they were at one time just like one of the characters.
Troy firmly gripped Thanos' hand to the car & sent him flying over the ridge. Let's see him try that when Brolin gets the infinity gauntlet

This movie is so funny:-) Long live Richard Donner!
I have liked this review before I've even watched it!! One of my favourite childhood films + my favourite film reviewers🙂 What's not to like?!

18:30 The most frightening scene of the movie.

I liked this as a kid. Haven't seen it as an adult; was worried it wouldn't hold up.
@Abe Garfield Yeah I figured this was a case of rose-tinted glasses for me. Loved it as a kid but I reckon I'd switch it off if I watched it again now.
