You should put all the videos in a Playlist! There's so little on this winch here on you tube and it's such a hassle finding good information like what you have made here! Thanks for everything you are doing and all the help.
Great videos! Helped a ton n my rebuild and modification to my 8274. One tip I figured out along the way... Try using about 4 magnets on the bottom brake plate when it's in the vise. It holds the ball bearings to the edge perfectly! (If you positio. The magnets right) went on super easy first try and ever since... I used four old car audio tweeter magnets abou 2 inches round and put one on each corner of the brake plate. Thanks again for the vids!
The shaft is 1.5 inch solid, extended 3 inches. the brake shaft was drilled at a machine shop and is case hardened - so it drilled on a lathe easily. yes you need the cardboard ring to install it - it keeps the seal in place. Thanks for watching!
Your C clip on the brake shaft went in upside down, they have a sharp side & a slightly rounded side on the edges, sharp side outwards best resists pushing out of the C clip groove.
Your videos are very helpful! but it looks like you forgot to show/talk to or add information on when to put the the keys into the brake assembly before putting on the snap ring.
You need to upgrade the ratchet if you upgrade the brake shoes. The new ratchet doesn't have puck holes in it. And how do you expect the brake to work when it's powdercoated?
Man you took that thing apart and it looked ready for the junk yard ,look at it now looks like something that ready to hull you and your friends out of trouble ,not enough people realize rebuilding is the way to go in the throw away age .
Awesome video!!! What is on your motor that looks all greasy? I have the motor sealed, do I need to put grease or goop on the outside where the screws go into the body?
HI, on my old 8274 when i stripped it down there were cirular pads on the braked tooth gear. ive bought the full rebuild kit but it does not come with them. i can see yours had the holes for them. did it have them. thanks andrew
Great got some new gear and drum mods done -- Just looking at the motor on your 8274 looks like a 2.5 HP at 12V is that correct?Mine is 12V @ 2.5 HP.How does it perform and do you run out of power?Thinking off upgrading to 6HP. Whats your thoughts having used yours in anger.
New brake pads for 8274 is much smaller in diameter and new 3.7mm thick,so here is my question -- how do you find our adapted brake shoes and would you recomend it?
It looked like there was a little bit of end play or in/out movement of the brake shaft, most likely because the lock plate is thinner than the groove in the shaft. Is this normal?
From the video it looks to me that you put the "C" clip on the wrong way around, as the sharp side is suppose to face outward. Cool vids but. I'll post some more of mine soon.
Ed KE6BNL I've been looking into rebuilding my old 8274. Here's what I have on my list so far. All on Amazon, but probably eBay too: Warn 8680 Lower House Service Kit Warn 8409 Brake Service Kit (stock. Not upgraded) Warn 8356 Needle Bearing
mine has never stalled, i actually bought the motor off ebay, think it is 4.3 hp. works great and I have abused it! 6 hp might be overkill but i understand the urge to upgrade:) checkout gigglepin4x4 for really cool upgrades.
Still one of the best 8274 vids.

Great videos, no bullshit, no endless talking and dead easy to follow.
Thanks :)
Thanks for posting the lesson! Finished up my winch rebuild and it works great!

Did you make the cardboard ring?
Hmm, I'll have to go back and look. Thanks for watching!
They are much better, they don't break into pieces like the warn type - I highly recommend them.
@hedgehog23 Yes, that is why I used brake caliper grease - doesnt eat rubber - thanks for watching!
Great couple of videos!
I can’t believe you stuck that dirty horrible motor to that new shiny winch 😛😂
Great video, thank you very much. I'm gonna give mine a rebuild try.
Great Job LOUIS!!!
Thanks for your Tutorials VIDS!
Awesome vid, I used it as a reference for my rebuild! my 8274 is going in a tube bar, then I'll replace the 2.5 with a 6hp or 9hp motor :-)
I use a hawse fairlead that i cut and extended, works perfectly.
Its silicone, i sealed everything, but might be a good idea to have avent hose coming off it to allow for expansion and contraction.

@FRUNTCASTER Most are yes.
@farmerboy4 mine had the pucks, i replaced with a gigglepin heavy duty brake shoe type - the warn shoes break too easy.
Did you list somewhere the best service hit with the superior seals and gaskets you prefer?
If not... please do!!!
Thanks!

Why you make powder coat of tooth gear? I think paint will rubbed by clutch. No?
Great tutorial thanks a bunch mate
My pleasure!
You actually add the fluid before you put the top cover on, when I modded it I put a filler and drain plug in it.
Did you have this powder coated? If so did you have the top case powder coated with or without the cluster gear still installed?

Looking forward to the next videos, as I have the same winch to put together from a box-o-parts. Are all these parts still available from Warn?

Hi thanks for the info, one more thing are you running a stock fairlead¢re or did you ajust that to suit the new drum mods?
What type are the ones you have uased -- brand name? Or are the just normal brake material? Thanks
Forgive my ignorance but what product are you using to seal the motor and clutch up? Cheers
U missed to show the inserting of second brake pad and finally key for the shaft
It looked like there was a little bit of end play or in/out movement of the brake shaft, most likely because the lock plate is thinner than the groove in the shaft. Is this normal?
yes i believe so
why does your motor look like it has goop all over it? what is it?
I want to weld on a ground any tips?
Use a magnet to hold the ball bearings in place. Way easier.
anybody want to buy my 8274 im tired of it wanting something newer
i got them from gigglepin com - great guys.
Did you not install the woodruff keys in the brake?
I was wondering the same thing.
Did you powder coat the center brake part? I wouldnt recomend that. Thanks for sharing!!👍🏼
No I didn't
I can power in and out. If I pull my free spool knob out the motor disengages but the winch will not free spool, any suggestions?
they get sticky
@@PowerModzOfficial i put some enormous force on the freespool could the ahaft for the brake cam be siezed ro the cam
@luloadventure Anything to help out Lulo!

Парень конечно профи в этом, но делает не акуратно и грязно.
Why did you take all that time, use all new parts... sent the old parts off to paint and coat... then install the same crappy dirty motor?...
