The Street triple's stylemas have different pads and it has a different master cylinder with a different piston ratio. The initial bite is 100% due to those 2 factors. Braking feel is more difficult story, brake lines, ABS system, pads, MC, MC to caliper piston ratio etc etc. Japanese brands almost always choose a less agressive pad, probably for safety reasons. Caliper pistons on both the SP and regular MT are both 30mm :).
I currently have the 2024 SP i like the silver paint work, and it rides nicely. I am considering moving to the R9, but i hope they do an R1-M style paint job down the line.
Nice review EBD, brother has the R1. He also has a bit more exhaustable income than I have. I think this bike would be a great bike for my pocketbook. Good review!
I test rode the base model and the brakes are very good, I would get it over the SP with a wilbers shock, have more color options and no stupid keyless BS for less money.
MT09SP brakes are much softer despite Brembo Stylemar calipers fitted they persist putting cheap rubber brake pipes on where as STRS has steel braided pipes fitted possibly why there is a difference in performance
Yes,but pending the reviews. The new hornet 1000 would have to be made for real road riding with strong low, and mid range, in line with how the MT09 rides.
@@davidmallia628 My agile and optimized 2020 SP (181,5 kgs wet, 118,6 whp) is able to give the MT10 SP a run for its money on any serious mountain pass. The new 1000 Hornet is a fine new Honda motorbike but not as much at ease in the Alps as a pro-tuned SP in experienced hands.
SP evidently stands for Singular Paintjob! A boneheaded decision if ever there was. As for the same brakes not feeling as good as they do on the ST765RS then Michael Neeves has previously commented that a common shortcoming of Japanese bikes persisting to this day is the software implementation of ABS systems relative to how well the established European manufacturers commonly do it.
Will upgrade my 2026 SP with braided steel brake lines and track / road brake pads in the way I did with my current 2020 SP - perfect on the track as well as up and down some serious mountain passes 😎✌️🏁
Brother i am from india here the mt09 base or sp is sure to cost 30% to 40% more than the street triple r which i locked on so how different are the two i agree the yam have nicest dash but i dont need those gizmos nor do i want mental madness this is my first big bike so i want a smooth low end a midrange punch for fun and a linear delivery so is it ok of i buy the st3 r for now and later when yamaha did price the mt09 right i can use the st3 till when mt09 comes at a discount and buy both the mt09 and tenre 700 together and bag a good deal or the st3 is a good bike that i can just buy and buy a tenre 700 cause my indian roads def need a tenre for me to ride carelessly but at present i want a hughway and corner craver so decided on st3 but also word is mt09 will come to india soon too but will be priced sky high due to import charges
SP - Smelly Pants 👍
Love it.
A nice morning for an English Biker Dan vid

This bike is amazing with Akrapovič exhaust

Great review!
sp-special project
Just needs a new exhaust. Wish they'd do an XSR900 version of the SP.

Thanks Mike, R1 is crackers!

Dan will you be riding the Hornet 1000 sp next? Would love to hear your comparison for both.
I hope so, not sure when though and I'm sure a million other journo's/youtubers will also want a go!
Choosing between the MT09SP or the ZH2 as my next bike
ZH2 would be insane!
Yesss Dan!!!! ❤❤❤❤
Stock brake pads aren't the best, changing them will improve the feel

I would go for the new hornet

SP = Sport Production
Inseam is important.

I don't like pork. It's not the taste but how it affects my bowel movements. Yowzers.
@davewestsk8 surely an 890 or a t120 sounds much better
