    Hello Melissa i bought this serum because my dermatologist prescribed it, and as i soon as i applied it it started burning and my skin slowly started turning red and i took it off. Was that supposed to happen or does this mean this serum is bad for my skin?

    hi, thank you so much for your video!🤗
    I have a short question: is it okay if I only do my routine at evening and if I would use „sunscreen“ as moisturizer. Because I have no moisturizer.
    In the morning I would only clean my face and use Sunscreen and do makeup…
    But evening would be this:
    - cleansing
    - serum
    - sunscreen
    Would this be okay to use sunscreen as moisturizer in the evening?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  4 місяці тому

      No, only use sunscreen in the morning or if you're exposed to a lot of sun. It's fine to use the serum on its own after cleansing.

    • @papriuxx
      @papriuxx 9 місяців тому +1

      It shouldn't, maybe you should use a moisturizer before applying the serum. It is important that the moisturizer is a gel and not a cream.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  9 місяців тому

      Yes, that can work as Papriuxx suggested. However, you could also consider diluting it with a moisturizer, since you already have one. Although your skin may get used to it over time, I think ultimately the exfoliant is too strong. Therefore, I would suggest using a gentler exfoliant, like The Ordinary's 5% Lactic Acid or maybe a 10% Mandelic Acid.

    Hello dear ❤❤ I really like your videos and started watching it since I decided to take care of my skin ❤ I just have one question, I do not wear makeup on daily basis, like once in a week for example. Do I have to have an oil-based cleanser? Or I can use my microfiber makeup remover towels and use a normal cleanser after? I have an oily skin.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Рік тому

      Hello! 😊
      Usually, microfiber makeup towels are sufficient for makeup removal, unless you wear heavy, influencer-style makeup which doesn't come off that easily. However, the main issue often lies with heavy zinc oxide sunscreen, which can be difficult to remove with a regular cleanser. In these cases, using an oil or balm can gently lift it off the skin, so you don't need to rub harshly. Constant rubbing can dramatically increase the risk of skin irritation.

    hi♡ I would like to know if the method of applying the cleansing gel is correct in this way: I wet my hands and face with warm water, I foam the cleansing between my wet hands and then I massage it on my face.
    I ask you because when I emulsify the cleansing gel in my hands the foam that comes out is dense, almost like a cream. I like it, but I don't want it to be too aggressive, meaning I have to add more water during the emulsion in my hands.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, you can add a splash of water. Sometimes I do this too. I think it depends on how wet your face and hands are, but usually, if you do it right away, it should work well. But again, adding a splash of water is perfectly fine :)

      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  7 місяців тому

      @@claudiatamburrini3712 Yeah, some formulations foam better than others. In that case, just add a splash of water to it, and that's it! Alternatively, what can also help is to wash your hands with soap so that they are clean and then start with your cleansing step. This way, any oils and dirt on your hands are removed, and that way, it can also foam much better. I do this sometimes too with the cleanser. If the cleanser doesn't foam well on my face because my face was quite sweaty and/or oily, I cleanse a second time :) You can really adjust it to your needs.

    I've never bought serums from la roche posay.
    Yesterday, I bought hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and effaclar serums.
    I noticed that hyaluronic acid serum is full to the lid, but for the effaclar and niacinamide they are not full to the top.
    Does thay usually happen?

      It's possible that some serum is already in the dropper, so this is not unusual. I've experienced the same with other serums. If a significant amount is missing, then there might be a problem. However, if it's just a small amount, the dropper or pipette could be the cause.

      Overall, it really depends on your personal skin tolerance. What usually happens over time is that the layer of dead skin cells becomes thinner, potentially leading to increased sensitivity for the newer, healthier skin cells beneath. While it's possible to maintain this routine for a while, eventually it may become problematic, as I described. To avoid this, I would suggest only exfoliating occasionally, or skipping some Adapalene days when you choose to exfoliate.

      Hey! :)
      Have you already tried that routine?
      It may work, if your skin is quite resistant. However, some people find the combination of the Effaclar Serum and DUO+ quite potent. Instead, I would use them on alternate days in the morning + wear SPF if you're exposed to the sun. Also, the toner is likely not needed. As for the evening I recommend doing it like this: ua-cam.com/users/shortsUjQLJn0lSdY?si=j4JRUA5wua9D-QcK
      Also, remember that BP can bleach fabric so use clean old cloths and towels - where you do not mind it, or non-dyed fabric.

      Hey! :) I wouldn’t recommend using them together at first. It’s best to test the cleanser for a while to see how your skin reacts. If you tolerate it well and still feel the need, you can add the serum to your routine, but keep the frequency in mind since both are exfoliating acid products. It would be better to use a non-exfoliating cleanser when incorporating that serum.

    In your doc you write "It is best to AVOID using La Roche Posay Effaclar Serum in the same routine as La Roche Posay Effaclar DUO+", which is right for me too i think it's too much for my skin.
    But any idea if the La Roche Posay Effaclar K+ could work instead or would it be too much also ? My skin is quite oily and i saw that it's good for renovating care for oily skin.
    I would use effaclar cleanser, then the serum, then the the K+ and after the effaclar mat for moisturizer at night before going to sleep.

      It may be too much for your skin to handle, so reduce the frequency to 2-3 times per week and see how that goes. As for acne, it's essential to find its root cause. While treatments can help reduce outbreaks faster and ideally prevent some from reoccurring, without identifying the root cause, it will be impossible to completely get rid of it.

      Hey! 😊
      I do not recommend using all of these products in the same routine, as this can lead to dryness and irritation over time. I recommend using just one exfoliant and your Differin Gel. So, either pick your LRP Salicylic Acid Cleanser, Effaclar Serum, DUO+, or PC BHA, as they all contain exfoliating acids.
      Avoid using your Differin Gel with exfoliating acid products in the same routine. You can use them at different times of the day or on alternate days, but not in the same routine.
      If you want to use something gentle and more hydrating, look into a non-exfoliating acid foaming cleanser, hydrating essence, serum, or gel-type moisturizer.

    It’s hard to understand which products can mesh and which doesn’t due to also their percentage of ingredients, I’m clueless.
    My skin is normal to combination, thin/wrinkly (not regularly oily and not regularly dry but can be either or both depending on the climate north of Scandinavia. I usually can get oily T-zone after a long day now in the summers. Or dry but not never really flakey.
    I have pigmentation on forehead and upper lip, sebaceous filaments on nose,pores on chin bones and some pimples on chin and between eyebrows due to diet or period right now.
    -Sometimes when I use HA before moisturiser my pores seems bigger and skin feels tacky and greasy. But more wrinkly?
    I have bought 4 cleansers.
    CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser.
    CeraVe Foaming Cleanser.
    CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser.
    CeraVe Blemish control cleanser.
    I have also bought 4 serums.
    La Roche Hyalu B5 serum.
    La Roche pure Niacinamide 10 serum.
    La Roche Effaclar Ultra concentrated serum.
    Vichy mineral 89 booster serum.
    I also bought spf and moisturisers:
    La Roche Anthelios Age correct spf 50.
    CeraVe Moisturising cream.
    Vichy mineral 89 72H booster cream.
    La roche Posay Effaclar H Iso-Biome.
    La roche Cicaplast Baume B5.
    Now I’m experiencing a bit break outs and want to try out my new Effaclar serum. Which of the cleansers can I use and which of the moisturiser will go together wi to the Effaclar ultra serum?
    (When I wear make up I use Cerave Micellar water first, then usually CeraVe foaming cleanser then La Roche Hyalu serum and CeraVe moisturiser)
    (But due to period I am experiencing some break outs on chin and between eyebrows, also the usual pigmentation I yearly struggle with) I want to incorporate the Effaclar serum I have never used but afraid if any of my cleansers or what if the Iso-Biome cream (as it contains niacinamide) for example will be off putting?
    Which products goes together considering sometimes skin is dry, oily, pimpely, or most of the time just normal but want to target pigmentation during normal days?
    Skin is different all month around… and seasons aswell. Much love from Finland!

      (Less than 2% SA) CeraVe SA Cleanser or (2% SA) Blemish Control Cleanser.
      LRP Hyalu B5 or Vichy Mineral 89.
      LRP Niacinamide.
      (Optional) Moisturizer (more likely needed during Winter).
      Sunscreen (especially if you have prolonged sun exposure).
      PM:
      Micellar Water.
      CeraVe Foaming Cleanser.
      LRP Effaclar Serum (try using that one on its own, without applying anything on top). Also, start with 2-3 times per week and adjust the frequency over time.
      However, if it shouldn't work, you can follow with LRP Hyalu B5 or Vichy Mineral 89 and/or Moisturizer afterwards.
      It is fine NOT to use a moisturizer; use it only if your skin really gets dry. After cleansing, the skin can feel a bit ‘dry and tight,’ but this isn't a reason to use a moisturizer, as usually after about 30 minutes, the skin returns to its normal state.
      The exfoliating acid cleanser/serum may help reduce sebaceous filaments; however, they are natural, so they will come back. Keep in mind that your skin is an organ that tries to hydrate, protect, and clean itself as well. It's not just a ‘wall’.
      Avoid applying your skincare products to wet skin, and don't use too much of each product; this way, they layer best and you get the most out of them. If you don't like the LRP Hyalu Serum formulation, stop using it and use Vichy instead.

      ua-cam.com/users/shortsjvqvR1em-i0?si=gzuHwlm8rKgO2oDd
      Also, I do not recommend using CeraVe Cream or LRP Cicaplast Baume; they're way too thick/rich. Instead, look into a light lotion or gel. I haven't tried Vichy's cream, but that one looks much lighter, which can work.

      Again, there is no research about this, so essentially, nobody really knows. However, personally, I would avoid using such products during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as some of it can surely enter the bloodstream, especially when used ongoingly.

I have the la Roche posay Niacinamide serum, the la Roche posay hyaluronic B5 serum, the la Roche posay Vit C serum and la Roche posay Effaclair serum and the la Roche posay retinol serum and the cicaplast gel as my mosturizer. Well, if you have oily, acne-prone, and even sensitive skin, most of these treatments (Effaclar astringent toner, vitamin C, La Roche-Posay retinol serum, Effaclar serum) are likely not suitable for you. In that case, I recommend trying the treatments individually to see which ones you tolerate well, while giving your skin a day's rest in between each trial. After determining that, you can create a complete routine with the treatments that suit you. Otherwise, you risk making your skin even more sensitive.

    Brilliant video - thanks for redirecting me here! My new current routine is below, is there anything I should change? Can I do the below everyday gradually as currently doing the serum 2-3 times.
    AM
    - wash face with water only (for some reason I would break out more cleansing twice a day)
    - apply la Roche-lossy effaclar duo+ blemish treatment
    - go ahead with sunscreen and makeup!
    PM
    - remove makeup
    - wash face with la Roche-possum effaclar purifying cleansing gel
    - apply la Roche-posay effaclar serum ultra concentre
    I don’t use any other products as my skins suits a more simple regime! Any advice appreciated ☺️ my skin is normal but I breakout during PMS and my skin does mark!!

      It’s been a few days since I started this new routine and products and have experienced a small breakout in my usual areas! - wondering if this is purging? I do tend to break out when changing products!
      Also do you recommend using the dui+ moisturiser to different days of the effaclar serum and why? TIA

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Рік тому +1

      @@vee3899 Purging can happen in the very beginning when introducing a new treatment to the skin. This should calm down over time, typically within about a month of use. Well, you do not necessarily need to use them on different days, but I wouldn’t use them in the same routine as, in some individuals, it can lead to excessive dryness and irritation. However, the overall frequency and your skin tolerance matters as well.

    Hello, Melissa and thank you for such a insightful and useful video. I just wanted to ask, since I have oily skin, is it ok to add effaclar tonic after cleansing gel in the evening, before Ultra Concentrated Serum? I use it in the morning before effaclat mat cream, but I'm not sure about the evening? Thank you in advance!

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  11 місяців тому +1

      Well, technically yes. Practically speaking, it might make the skin a bit sensitive if done continuously. I personally wouldn't tolerate it, but if you can, then there's of course no issue.

    Hi, I love your videos! ❤ I have oily skin that is acne-prone and I have lots of hyperpigmentation from old acne. This is my current skincare for AM and PM:
    Cerave Foaming Cleanser
    The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
    Cerave Moisturising Lotion
    Beauty of Joseon Sun Relief Rice + Probiotics (AM only)
    Is this a good routine? I’d like to build more into my skincare routine. Should I introduce a retinol, toner or essence first? If I use retinol, can I continue using Alpha Arbutin? Thank you ❤️

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Рік тому +1

      The lotion is not the best option for your needs as it is meant for dry skin type, but you have oily skin.
      A better regimen would be:
      Cerave Foaming Cleanser
      Pat dry with a clean towel
      The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
      Wait 30 seconds to 1 minute
      Beauty of Joseon Sun Relief Rice + Probiotics
      And before introducing a retinol, I would recommend a Salicylic Acid exfoliant which usually works better.
      For the evening:
      Cerave Foaming Cleanser
      Pat dry with a clean towel
      The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution or the Effaclar serum I mentioned in this video
      Wait 1-2 minutes
      A gel-type moisturizer such as the new Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan

      @@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Thank you so much for your advice! Should I use a Salicylic Acid exfoliant every AM and PM? And how long should I use this exfoliant before I introduce a retinol? ❤

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Рік тому +1

      Well, I would try using it once a day in the beginning, ideally in your evening skincare routine. Then, do that for some time to see how well you tolerate it and what effects/improvements it shows on your skin. After that, you can still add a retinol, but I would say that when following the routine mentioned above, you should already see some good improvements after a few weeks. The only thing that may be an issue is the Beauty of Joseon (BOJ) sunscreen. Consider changing that to a mineral-based sunscreen as it is less likely to interact with your acne. That's not to say that the BOJ will cause issues, but it may have an impact.

      @@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Hi Melissa, I have a question about toner and essence.
      I would like to introduce toner and/or essence into my routine too, but do I actually need both?
      I like the sound of the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence OR the Cosrx Advanced Snail Radiance Dual Essence.
      Which one is better for my skin type? From research, it seems like the Dual Essence is better for my oily and acne-prone skin.
      If I use this essence, is it fine to skip toner? When I tell people my skincare routine, they tell me to add a hydrating toner, but I believe the Cosrx essence mentioned above are hydrating already! And I have also seen people talk about exfoliating toners, but The Ordinary Salicylic Acid you have recommended should act as an exfoliator because it is a BHA, is that correct? So I should be ok to skip toner if I add a hydrating essence like the Cosrx ones?
      Thank you!! ❤
