That was simply beautiful. Jack Kid Berg is still remembered as a great champion. Vicious in the ring and a sublime champion out of it. This show depicts the great Berg as a saintly gentleman, which he clearly was. He will live forever in the annuals of Boxing history!!!
Blimey I almost teared up at the end when Ray Arcell came in....cos of Jacks reaction lol
You can see Jackie's face light up when the legendary Ray Arcel came on the screen and to have him there was something special.
thanks a MILLION for this
Thank you very much for this upload. 👍
Grazie ancora!!!
What an Amazing video. Kid Berg!!
I remember seeing this on telly. Berg won and held the World Light-Welterweight (then known as Junior) Title. Some lists quote two defenses, some six. In reality Berg had around twelve fights between winning and losing the championship and his title was on the line EVERY TIME! Thats twelve defenses as picked up by the late Harry Mullen. Berg peaked roughly between the ages of 19years and 24years perhaps because of his whirlwind style. One of our truly greatest fighters ever!
Wonderful film, the great "Yiddle" Kid Berg, God bless 'im.
These old times just oozed of class, great upload!
Brilliant!!
Thank you so very much for posting, shame you haven't got the Nosher Powell This is Your Life episode...
Got to love these old champs.
I was 7 years old when this was aired. Jack still looked fit and healthy. I can’t believe that only 4 years later he passed away. I guess that’s the cruelty of old age . Your health can decline rapidly overnight
God bless him, British fighting legend
A WORLD BOXING LEGEND!
Eamonn Andrews was an all Ireland boxing champion in his youth
Oh ! my god When the great Ray Arcel came out, to see Jacks response made me cry !
Legend
an old man i saw many years ago said, jack was only a kid, selling peanuts on a tray, and a long come a bully and knocked the tray out of his hands, before the tray hit the pavement jack knocked out the bully and knew he could earn a bit of cash using his fistsxx
You cannot compare someone like Jack to Joe Calzaghe. Of course if you look at Joe's achievements he has to be among our greatest ever boxers but in his own right. Jack on the other hand fought when there were literally thousands of fighters around. Boxers had to have more fights then just to become a contender let alone fight for a title. Jack's peak was possibly between the ages of 19yrs and 25yrs, something like that. He was a two fisted whirlwind with a style not likely to promote a long career. He also went to the USA and fought and beat some of the toughest fighters to ever lace on gloves. The level of top competition was much higher than it is nowadays. Every top fighter back then lost some fights. The opposition was simply too good, and in depth. By the time Jack returned to England and became British Lightweight Champion he was already an ex World Champion and past his best and just a shadow of the man who beat Andre Routis, Mushy Callaghan, Billy Petrolle, Tony Canzoneri, Goldie Hess and Kid Chocolate to name just a few. So all credit to Joe but we cannot sensibly compare the two very different era's.
Ambulated class👍👍👍👍
Nosher Powell also appered on this is your life. would anyone have that episode ?
I always wondered about this series
I know the initial meeting was a surprise, but did they ask permission from the person to broadcast their whole life like that?
