Thank you for doing this. For some reason, all I feel comfortable doing these days is listening to stories about Bigfoot. It keeps my mind away from the cultural and geopolitical mayhem.

Hey Nance! When I heard you mention Bat Cave Rd, I kinda got excited because that is about 1-1.5 hours up I-40 from where I had my first experience. Back in September of 1990, I was a young boy, just a few weeks shy of 10 years old, living with my siblings and foster mother in a single wide just outside Catawba NC. We were out in the sticks, literally. To our front was Brown's Chapel Rd (it was a dirt road back then) with woods on the far side. To our right and back was the same forest and to our left was a large field surrounded by, you guessed it, forest. About 40 or 50 feet into the trees to the right of the trailer was where a ravine started that continued for about 3/4 of a mile and was about 20-25 feet deep at it's deepest point. Now seeing as how we were living in the middle of nowhere and we were only allowed to watch one of 3 programs on tv (Nature, Nova, and Smothers Brothers), there really wasn't much to do for fun except to go outside and play, which we did a lot of. We never had any problems playing in the yard or running up and down the road but anytime I stepped foot into the woods, especially behind the trailer, I had this overwhelming feeling like I shouldn't be there. I never went more than 10 feet into the trees before I ran back to the house. Every once in a while, I would see large sticks stacked against each other in a weird way back off in the trees, but I always assumed that was just how they landed when they fell. I would also hear what sounded like howler monkeys yelling way back in the woods, which I thought was weird because I knew that monkeys didn't live in North America, but it happened so often that I quit paying attention and it just became background noise. So one day, I convinced my foster mom to let me and my two sisters (7 and 5) go about 1/4 mile down the road (to the right towards the deep part of the ravine) to a clay embankment that we liked to climb. It was a steep embankment that was about 8-9 feet tall that presented us with a challenge, which is why we liked it. When we got there, it was between 8 and 8:30 am and sunny, although there was a lot of shade from the surrounding trees. As I got ready to start climbing, I noticed 3 bare footprints that looked really big that went up the embankment. I grabbed a thin stick and laid it beside the bottom print, putting one end at the heel and using my finger to mark the end of the big toe. I picked the stick up and broke it off where my finger was and when I looked back down, I noticed that each print only had 4 toes! I started asking myself who would be walking barefoot in the woods and why were they missing a toe on each foot. My sisters obviously didn't know, so I then asked myself which way the person (I thought it was a lone person at that point) went. I looked up and to the left and saw nothing but trees, so then I turned my head to the right and froze. I saw what looked like a hair covered Neanderthal with a conical head walking across the dirt road about 35 feet away from us! It looked to be about 6 1/2 feet tall and covered with black hair that appeared to have light brown highlights when the sun hit it. As it crossed the road, it turned at the waist and looked at us before disappearing into the trees and down into the ravine. I heard the receding footsteps for a few seconds, but when it sounded like they stopped, I snapped out of whatever trance I happened to be in and told my sisters to run back to the trailer. As far as I could tell, it didn't follow us, or at least I couldn't hear or see it. When we made it back, we were breathless and apparently very scared looking because our foster mother asked us what happened. When I told her about it, she chuckled and told me it must have been the shadows moving around. I tried to convince her, but she told me to go get ready for lunch and that I could try to find some answers when we made our weekly trip to the public library that afternoon. So I did. When we got to the library, I told the librarian what I saw and asked if there were any books about it. She giggled a little and told me she had a few and that she would get them for me. I started reading and it was part way through the first book that I first saw the word "Bigfoot". By the time I got done reading the first 2 books, I was obsessed. I read and watched everything I could find on the subject. Now as I write this, it's been 33 years since that first encounter and while I've had a few other weird experiences that I can be pretty sure was the big fella messing with me, I have yet to see him again. I'm sorry for the long story, but I hope you and the Sasquad enjoyed it.
    Until we speak again,
    DJ

Hi Nance! Chrissy from WV here. We've been having wifi outages so things have been running wayyy slower, so I had to rely on my phone data which is a little slow, so I'm so glad I was able to still listen to your videos. The audio didn't sound as loud.
I haven't been to Gatlinburg since 2005. If I wasn't so broke I'd come out. That being said I don't like leaving my older cat and my year old kitten the same age as Sage. It is dark as pitch when the moon is not out here in Appalachia. Spooky. Just me, my cats and God watching over me. They are putting a huge bypass in and it is driving the wildlife to other areas, Sasquatches included. I'm on the wildlife side. Someone saw a cougar near the edge of town. And ALLEGEDLY the Easter cougar is gone. I don't believe that. The woods are a scarier place to be alone since my encounters. Since I sent my stories in I've heard things but not seen them.

Hey Ms. Nance! Great Stories as Always!! Although the last one was my favorite. Now, to be totally honest, I do not agree with Mr. Lee about his thinking why the Bigfoot was chasing him. I think that if he WOULD HAVE caught up to him he would have hurt Mr. Lee. I say this because Mr. Lee DID shoot at him. And out of ALL the stories I've ever heard about them, THAT PISSES THEM OFF IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE!!! I mean sure, Mr. Lee could have been right, but I'm just glad he had his grandkids leave when he did!! That way they were out of danger. Now, as far as the Bigfoot Conference, I wanted to go so bad, cause I REALLY wanted to meet you!! But, I just couldn't. Hopefully one time I will be able to go. Take Care Of Yourself And Your Family and Be Careful and Stay Safe Out There!! Lots of Love From One Of Your Georgia Sassquad!!
