I like that he gave Billie Joe Armstrong props! People like to say he only does power chords but he’s so much more than that. It’s just he doesn’t NEED to do all that technical stuff. He’s definitely not the best guitarist ever by far! But he’s a phenomenal rhythm player and his solos are so underrated!! Especially on the trilogy! People trash on Uno, Dos, and Tre but the solos are so damn good on those records!! And yeah he plays mostly pentatonic. But so do a lot of guitarists! Look at Ace Frehley and Slash especially!! Nobody is bashing them for mostly using pentatonic!! If it works it works!! Billie may not be a virtuoso but he’s a hell of a player!!

I just saw Uncle Larry working with The Struts on Homeskoolin! These guys are a great band and the song I heard reminded me of the Stones! Super cool. However, they just lost one point from me cuz EVH is the King! But, everyone vibrates at a different frequency so that's ok. 🤘

To me it sounds like he hasn't really listened to much Van Halen, if it's melody, hooks and tasteful playing that he likes then Dance the night away / Finish what ya started are obvious places to start... but it's not going to be for everyone, especially Roths vocal style and over the top persona.
A lot of people dismiss VH music as hair metal too, I would never consider VH hair metal... although they clearly influenced the bands in that style.

Idk I think you have to go with who changed the face of music for the times. The beatles, Zepplin, Van Halen ....Id take Cobain over Armstrong....etc...
