This is the official video for The Soldiers with Robin Gibb - I've Gotta Get A Message To You, which has been chosen as The Official Poppy Appeal Single for 2011.
To be released on 23rd October 2011, The Soldiers' royalties will go to The Royal British Legion's annual fundraising drive which will be launched nationally on Oct. 27th. It is the first time serving soldiers have released the Official Single for the Poppy Appeal, which will focus this year on the Legion's assistance in the recovery of injured Armed Forces personnel.
The Soldiers are Sergeant Major Gary Chilton, Staff Sergeant Richie Maddocks and Lance orporal Ryan Idzi, who are actual soldiers that have served in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Gulf War.
This is a beautiful tribute to Soldiers in the UK, but also everywhere. Robin was very ill during that take and he still had the heart to make it happen. That is why we miss Robin so very much.

I gew up with the bee gees and Robin, what an awesome guy and what a voice, pure magic, you will be sorely missed my friend, thank you for your gift to us.
Sadness for the family, and joy for the soldiers who got to use their talents alongside this legend. Hats off to them and thanks for your service, from an appreciative Yank. I always liked the music of the Bee Gees, but Robin's was the voice that could grab my heart and squeeze it for all it was worth! RIP, Mr. Gibb, and thank you for the music!

Even the most humble of things gets people so angry .. and this is a typical example of why we have wars! Can't the moaners please, just for once, please, hold back on their anger and see that in the name of "war", service personnel and civilians worldwide are dying or getting injured? THEY are what we should be concentrating here - not your petty squabbles.
It's time to look outwards .. to see the struggle of others .. not your own problems and insecurities.

What an incredible man. In the midst of his own "battle" for his life he took time for a group of people who are battling for the life and security of their nation. That is true selflessness and charity. RIP Robin.

Meaning is what you put into it and I find it amazing. I too grew up in that era and when a song plays it has a "certain"special meaning in a differant manner to many but this fits well

I think the actual meaning of this song is lost by The Soliders actually covering this song- this isn't about a solider wishing for his loved ones to know his feelings. It's about a convict walking the green mile to his death.
Just the meaning of this song makes me sad that Robin would sing about death - even if it was for a great cause - in his bad health. God knows what he was thinking.
I grew up with the original song, maybe it's my predjudice and would like Robin to take lead.
