Probably nobody will agree with me, but I drive a vehicle with manual transmission, And taught my son how to drive on Manual. It requires a higher level of alertness to coordinate Starting, shifting, stopping, how to use a clutch. Always needing a hand ready to grab the stick. I also made him drive only with me for a year, Before I cut him loose to drive alone, including taking him on highways teaching him how to be proactive, look for construction or impaired visibility or idiot drivers on their phones Or Drunk or asleep at the wheel or just stupid, And you need to be alert to Respond safely and avoid an accident. I took him out in the ice In Winter an empty parking lot to teach him how to Steer into The skid, And keep control Of your vehicle. Teens and adults as well Think of driving as just turn on the Ignition and put the gear in drive, Then assume that the road conditions and other drivers will accommodate them. Everybody with 2 legs and 2 Hands should be able to drive a stick shift , To get a sense That there's more to driving than just the accelerator and the brake.
I started driving at 19yrs old. I took driving lessons to learn driving on the freeway, merging into traffic. My first car was manual transmission because it was cheaper. I agree, you pay attention more when you have to shift and not zone out with automatic transmission. After 10yrs of driving I switched to automatic transmission. I work hard to stay alert, watching drivers behind me, not speeding into intersections and knowing what the other guy is doing. I am amazed how cyclist and pedestrians not pay attention to drivers behavior. I know pedestrians have the right of way but you have to be careful for distracted drivers. Make sure they see you.
@@djdutchy This will sound stupid, but one of the things that attracted me to my wife was the fact she drove a stick shift. (Also her brains, beauty, breasts; but I digress...)
My senior year of high school (forever ago)over Thanksgiving break a car full of kids that I went to school with got into an accident and some lost their lives and some were injured because of a drunk driver (I knew the drunk driver as well). They were all good kids and very responsible. It isn’t always because of the inexperience, sometimes it is because of horrible circumstances that accidents like these happen. Sending love and comfort to this beautiful young woman’s family and friends ❤️
@@AA-ke5cu no the other driver was the drunk driver not the kids. But I did know the guy who was drunk and he was a real POS AND he got away with what he did because his Dad knew people! He killed and injured these poor kids and got barely a slap in the wrist!
@@malig0413 what are you talking about? The drunk driver was by himself and in HIS car HE hit the KIDS that I went to school with. The kids were driving (NOT DRUNK) on one side of the rode and the guy that was drunk was driving in the other side. They were on a bridge. I knew the kids cause we went to school together and they were very collegiate, sports minded kids who didn’t party or drink. The guy who was in the other car was drunk and he was in a branch of the military and I knew him because he used to hang out with my neighbors who lived on the second floor of our apartment building. He was always drinking. So when he had to go to court for injuring some of the kids and some of the kids passed away from their injuries, he BARELY got a slap in the wrist. Oh and I don’t know if you were thinking I was in the car with the drunk guy because I wasn’t, I only knew him from (like I said), him hanging out with my downstairs neighbors. Did I clear it up? But yes he should have been charged with murder but as they say, it’s who ya know I guess.
Literally wasn’t allowed to drive with more than one other person in a vehicle with me until I moved out of the house. Even if the driver is not on their phone there are so many distractions around you in the car so you cannot Soley focus on the driving aspect. So sad
Props to your parents, for prioritizing your safety over letting you have the "fun" of driving. You've probably been able to avoid accidents when other drivers around you are not so alert. Bad on the parents that give their kid a car for their 16th birthday, and say "enjoy your new toy".

More teens die in car wrecks. This is why is strongly recommended that teen drivers don't drive with other teen passengers. They become too distracted with first being new and Inexperienced driver, loud music, texting, etc

Interesting to find out the details of the final Investigation. NJ has a provisional law that prohibits teens from driving after certain times unless coming home from a school or religious organized event. The law also only allows only 1 passenger in the vehicle, unless they are household members with the driver. Parents need to get tougher on these kid when they find out their kids are not following the driving laws.
