I have only 3 mods on my 14 rubicon, winchplate, 10k X2O gen2 winch, and a 24" lightbar right above the fairlead. the lightbar is only tool for night wheeling, it has a multi color row of leds witch comes in handy for fog (orange), white out snow (yellow).

There are many off-road vehicles but Jeeps are so popular because of the aesthetic look and customization options so I strangle disagree that EVERYTHING has to have a functional purpose. But light bars are lights so even if it’s for cosmetic purposes you can always use them in emergencies. You never know when you may need to use them

I like the look of light bars personally. They can be useful on dark back roads, which there are no shortage of here in Ohio. But, even if you are not going to use them, so what, it's your jeep, you can do whatever you want to it. If someone has something to say, they can pay your jeep payments and pay for all the mods themselves.

Personally I just prefer lights mounted on the bumper (no glare that way) and in most situations smaller lights there are still plenty for back road and trail cruises at night. Had a 50 in on a cherokee years ago and almost never actually used it due to the crazy glare. My jk has pods on the bumper and I use them at least every week or so.

Even though my (wj) is primarily for trail riding and is trailered most of the time, it is however insured and registered just in case I need it to be on public road ways. (My wj IS NOT a mall crawler). With that being said, I have light bars all over this weekend trail basher. I have found myself in the past, down in a holler at some far away off-road park at night with just headlights. So I started adding light bars and l.e.d. flood lights. In all I have 3 forward facing light bars, (in various sizes) and eight 4 inch by 4 inch flood lights attached to the cargo rack placed in specific spots where I can see clearly in 360 degrees (if needed). I know the importance of high powered lights on the trail. I use mine for safety of myself, my riders, and others that might be on the trails at night. I don't however think that light bars should be used on public roads. OFF ROAD USE ONLY.......

My lightbar comes in very handy out on the farm at night. I went with a cheap amazon one and found that if you install it upside down it makes almost no noise. I’ve had it up to 85mph but can’t hear a thing. No other modifications added other than flip it upside down.

I love mine. Let me start by saying I’m not a rock crawler or a mudder. I’m a nature and wildlife photographer who uses Jeep to get from here to there... which often is not great terrain. That said, I’ve never used my lockers and never used my winch ( though have used snatch strap and shovel ). Heading to middle of nowhere before sunrise and staying at location after sunset, I do a ton of driving in the dark. It would be almost impossible without my light bars. I’ve even photographed wildlife at night using them.

  • @MOTOWNN
    @MOTOWNN 5 років тому +3

Not a fan of light bars as you rarely if ever use it and the added wind noise and whistling makes it a no go , the whole mall crawler term is beyond ignorant as most Jeeps never go offroad and most don't have the time or trails near them , factor in work family etc and trails fall way down the list

Use ditch lights, pods in my bumper, and rock lights that's plenty good for night wheeling. I think having smaller more compact lights for night wheeling is ideal. Now if you were out west in wide open areas and traveling at speed I could see them being more useful. Personal preference is all it is for most.

In non-dusty environments I'm sure they are fine. I had a light bar on my 66 Bronco back in the 80's and turned it on once. I lit up the trail dust so bad I couldn't see past the hood. Took them off the very next day. I can only imagine in snow conditions overhead light bars have a similar effect. Now almost 40 years later (wholly crap) I am finally getting back to wheeling and have a JLU, and am looking at various lighting options. I'm curious to read others' serious comments/insight to light bars before going that direction as there are some nice ones out there that thrown down some serious illumination for a clear dark night condition. I'm thinking a combination of front driving lights, A-Pillar lights, and an overhead light bar all supplementing each other is the way to go. If you can only choose one, I'd go with front mounted driving lights since they won't blind you in dusty conditions.

It rained like hell, all the muddy wheel ruts were filling with water and turning to slime, but we made it to the end and some pics were posted on FB. Despite being among the few who never pulled cable and never got stuck, some internet badasses who couldn't be bothered to make it out saw my Jeep in a few of the pics and asked "who's the noob in the mall crawler?". It isnt that i dont like them, i just have a classic Jeep, a Grand Wagoneer, and light bars on a older truck like this dont look right at all. Id rather have the 4 6.5 inch round lights on the roof and the 2 on the brush guard i have. Ive seen these Jeeps with light bars and it just looks wrong. Only downside to the classic light is they are Halogen, so they use alot of power 600watts for the 6 i have. I could upgrade to 120w bulbs too for more brightness, but honestly after using them and testing out in dark areas the 100w are just fine. Had to upgrade my alternator from the factory 74amp to 150a. And yes i know they make round classic looking but leds.. but again the LED lenses just look weird.. i like the smooth shiney lense of a classic light. As for price my lights were only $14 each, so i spent only 84$ for them, i did the wiring myself using my own wire, those premade harnesses you can buy are usually too small of a guage wire cheaply made, ive seen pics of them causing fires.. its better to unspool wire and do it yourself.
Also light bars will lower gas mileage, my round lights lowered my mileage on the interstate by 1-2mpg. Meaning i went from 13 to 11.. For me already getting bad mileage that means on a 20 gal tank i lost 50 miles of driving, for a Jeep that gets better mileage than me like a wrangler that can get 20mpg... That 18% reduction could mean 3.6mpg, for a say 20 gal tank thats 72 miles less.. thats starting to become really noticable.
Now the only LEDS i do have on the Jeep would be interior lights of course so i can actually see in my Jeep lol, and for outside i did install two led/flood pods on the rear of the roof rack so i can have a basically 360 view of my Jeep if i wanted. But hey i drive a Wagoneer, my opinion doesnt matter to wrangler owners, because youre all snobs anyway lol

I don't mind light bars. I think they're very purposeful. I hate what people do with them. Driving down the street with it on. Small penis syndrome. I don't care where you drive your jeep, mall, highway, trail etc. Follow traffic laws, offroad use only. Stop blinding other people driving

I personally don't like them on MY vehicle.... That said, I don't care if others run them. I don't like them for me because I worry too much about rolling over... Give me some good old KC Hiliters any day

I love lights period. Lights on a Jeep are awesome! Think of your Jeep as your outfit. Your shoes and socks are your wheels and tires. And your lights are your jewelry. It’s the Bing! Having light is awesome. And you never know when you need it, till you need it! It’s allows you to express yourself though your Jeep, an opportunity to be original. And buying lights helps fund the industry. Which anytime you can help the people who share the same passion is you, is an awesome thing! I say who dies with the most lights wins!
Who cares if it’s a mall crawler, what’s wrong with malls? I’ve picked up a lot of hot chicks at the mall back in the day.

What do I think.... I think I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I can’t stand “elitists” that truly believe that everyone just HAS to like and dislike, or even HATE, everything that THEY say. It’s only cool if THEY say it is.

Personally, I don't like mods that only look cool. If I don't use it I generally won't put it on the jeep. I agree though, people should do whatever they want to THEIR jeeps! Jeeps are like snowflakes, no two are alike. Facebook haters can suck it.

I feel it's like every honda civic with a coffee can exhaust. I don't like it, cause I feel like every jeep has a light bar. Even stock looking jeeps have them. I get it tho, it's affordable.

IMHO, I like them on y rig. I have small spots under bumper in front (switched) and small floods in the back (under bumper) for aux back ups. (wired into back ups with a relay. Both sets are for visibility. Future plans for a roof mount light bar, but other things first. Just added 31"s on my mostly stock 95 Cherokee Sport. Now it's getting a 3" lift. As always, great content and thumbs up!

So my 2017 Wrangler JK came with a lightbar. It hummed/whistled. So I got that Aerolidz clear plastic cover. It doesn’t hum/whistle anymore however now the light is diffused……… any help out there? Do KC Hilites hum or whistle?

Never owned a Jeep before. I know this video is a few years old now but i just bought a 2012 jk sport unlimited 4dr RHD. Im a USPS rual route carrier in the middle of Oklahoma & it gets dark out there during the winter seasons. Need to see them address. Plus if i ever get stuck when it's dark im going to want to light up that situation as much as possible. So, a mall crawler my rig won't be. Great information on this video. Thank you👍

In reading the comments, I guess it's where you live. 3 days after purchasing my Wrangler, someone said "Ah you bought a MallCrawler!" I wanted to throat punch him ~he didn't know me! My beauty now has the 52 with Aerolidz silencer, a 20 and the pod lights (because the mount looked stupid without them). When I am driving the backroads of Western KY, I use them ~ heavy deer population! And Yes, I think they look good too. My Jeep, My money, My Choice! My Bail Money if you don't like it!

Hi from Australia. Jeeps are not so common here but, the jeep's I see out on the trails and tracks are usually, very modified, 2-3 inch lifted suspension, bar work(front steel bulbar with winch, brush guard's/rock slider's/side steps and a steel rear bar with two spare tires or a spare and a fuel can) So cool looking, LED lightbar's are legal here but not above the height of the hood, so, not mounted of roof rack or above the wind shield. A friend in need sold me his mint condition 3.7 petrol 2003 Jeep Cherokee limited for a very small amount of money. Please, don't hate on me for owning a diesel powered HZJ 75 series Toyota Landcruiser already. I had no idea what I was going to do with it. The fellow living a few houses down from me asked me why I had it when I already have the HZJ. I explained. He said his daughter was looking for a vehicle. so... I offered it to him for the same money I paid for it. He nearly fainted when I told him the price. In American money, $2,500. The new owner of the Jeep has made some changes. Better suspension, all terrain tires, transmission oil cooler, and so on. The Jeep gets used off road often. Thank you for posting this.

Dude! Stop waving your hands and arms around. Turn the volume off and then watch it. It's hysterical. Try zip tying your hands to your belt and then make a video. I bet you can't do it. BTW, you had less than 30 seconds of darkness! For a video about lights???

I live out in the country away from any cities (closest major city is almost 1 hour away) and most of the driving I do is on dark 2 lane blacktops and gravel roads. I use mine to help me see any animals on the road (usually a 2000 lb cow) that would possibly total my rig. As others have said if they are not paying my note then they have no say it what mods I do.

I think ppl need to mind their own damn business. I have a lightbar(which broke lol) and some cubes on my winch, and on bottom of my windshield; on my 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Islander. I also have a 4 inch lift and 35's. Front Bumper and winch. I don't care if some other person likes what i do or don't do with my Jeep(which happens to be my 4th CJ/TJ/ &JK; 3 Cherokees. I like having my light bar and extra lights when it's pitch dark in the Missouri woods. I was really happy when i was rolling down the Interstate and ran into a monster downpour from a tornado. I was able to see my way to an overpass. Cops there said they saw me coming a mile away lol. Most of the ppl talking trash online don't even own a Jeep... Who cares what trolls say. Not me.

that being said- the 50" light bar is a necessity when setting up camp at night and night rides along the thousands of miles of logging roads in northern maine & canada.

I live in Wyoming and I actually do Uber. Often I bring people back out to their ranches. I have A LOT of auxiliary lights. Four bars and four pods with two other pods in the plans. I have upgraded my headlights, fog lights, and DRLs. From driver’s door to passengers door looks like daylight and gets thrown down the dirt road very far. Tons of deer and antelope out here so the more light I have, the better. It’s cheap insurance for my vehicle that is not only my fun Jeep but a money maker. Cheap insurance.

Just put my lift on... after bumpers, sliders, and hood led bar. I beat the crap out of my TJ on the rocks when I was stock height. Especially night rock crawling with my buddies who were lifted before me. So even though my a light bar was one of my first mods.. my fuel tank, steering box, tcase skid plate and oil pan say I’m not a mall crawler haha. But I suppose I could have just upgraded my factory Tj headlights and got the same results ...

I have a 26" Quadratec hood mounted light bar (spot/ flood combo), and 4 Rigid cubes (2 spots, 2 floods) on windshield mounts. I live out of town where there are no street lights, and use them frequently. They also come in handy when some asshole won't dim their high beams :) The hood mounted light bar actually cut down on wind noise around the windshield surprisingly. I'm not a big fan of the huge 50" light bars on everything though.

P.s. I would never buy a light bar from Amazon or spend 100 dollars for one. You get what you pay for with a light bar! I bought mine from quadratec for 500 and it came with a free(and cheap lol) windshield mount. It has no glare on the hood and no extra noise from wind. 28000 lumina! So it's a good purchase but only after you've spent good money on armor and recovery first
