Marvelous video. I think that basically is a blade bait with a body. The slow motion/side-by-side comparison was an eye opener. Now I have to try fins on some of my next builds and retro-fit some older baits. 2 thumbs up.
5:00AM and I'm up and watching the Engineered Angler. And enjoying every minute of it! Your videos have helped me design and build better lures. Thank you.
Nice action on that one Franco! Interesting to see the with/without fin change in wobble - something to consider as sometimes a change in amplitude or frequency will affect the bite. Adding a fin to your lollipop lure would be something to test. Noticed that the tail treble is hanging down, might be an idea to use a treble dressed with squirrel tail, bucktail or plastic to add some length to the lure (looks kinda stubby) and have the treble ride more horizontally. Yeah, customizing a design to suit yourself is one of the big benefits of carving your lures or tying your own flies. :) Thanks for posting!
@@EngineeredAngler oh I know that for sure. Have yet to finish my first video. Hope to have a channel of my own showcasing my baits and fishing trips this year. I need all the help I can get there. Lol
Great build again Franco, love it. Really cool to see the side by side comparisons of how design changes impacts the action of a lure. Your paint selection was perfect too I reckon. Hey, a couple of ideas I thought I'd throw your way. Dunno if you would be keen but it would be fun to see you build a testing box out of plexiglass/ an old fish tank and a small aquarium powerhead (preferably with adjustable speed) to test your lures in the shop (would get around the murky water issue). You could no doubt add some cool engineering ideas I'm sure. Also I saw another UA-camr make something out of embroidery hoops and loofah mesh to paint scales, looks to be a handy, simpler way of spraying scales. Think the channel is called Green Country Customs. Anyway, keep up the good work 👏
Awesome video! I've never seen a lure like that. I've found that you can get a similar action out of a lipless crankbait by shifting the weight placement back slightly. If I want a slower action with greater amplitude I will put 3/4 of the weight forward of the line tie and 1/4 slightly more than half way back.
When I copy a lure I just pull it up on a phone or tablet and zoom in and out until it is the length I want and then gently trace it in a dark room. The rest is tricky though because people don’t typically take pictures from anywhere but the side.
I just started lure making. Iv been combing through your videos, there’s so much info! Been having fun trying your stuff. Thanks for sharing your videos are great!
What a great idea. Seriously considering putting top fins on my homemades. Most of mine are similar to the "stumpjumper" shape and give good action but hey can you ever have too much? Well that could be another question for another day. 🙋♂️👍👍
Very interesting build. It looks like the end result of the silver baits the fin also reduced the swimming angle of the bait. Of course I'm no fish, but it seems like a more natural swim angle.
Great video. The fins on your lures remind me of those on the shimano waxwing lures, which apparently give a more erratic, darting action to those. Would be interested to see your take on them.
After watching the video I'm wondering if a fin on some of the longer lures would greatly change the action and if so what if the fin was shaped so thin at the top and same size as the body, would the tapering change the dynamic s of the lure?
Another great video, showing older and simpler lures have a great action

It's always educational to see the underwater footage.

Thank you...so happy to hear that.
Looks like that one would be good for anything that swims, fresh or salt water. Thanks for the build.
Haha…..that was awesome. I thought for sure that fin would kill the lipless crank. I’m amazed at the results…..

Thanks I like the dressed hook idea for this little lure.
Thanks for taking this on. I still use them when white bass are running this time of year. I can’t believe you actually did it. Thanks.
You bet...thanks for the suggestion.
Great lure build I am kind of surprised you didn't catch a fish on it
Your ability to create new content is pretty awesome Franco. So many youtubers do the same thing over and over
Well thank you, and in defense of other UA-camr's; it takes a lot of commitment and time.

Another great build by Franco awesome job brother..... it reminds me of the old Heddon supersonic....great vid.
Thanks 👍

That thing looks awesome, I wonder what it would look like in the water if you doubled two pieces of cd together for the shark dorsal fin?
That was quite interesting. Good explanation for these different shapes.
Glad you liked it!

Definitely can get some action changes with weight shifted...but every lure shape will react differently.
dang, you're gonna make me make one at midnight here. that mini shark is adorable

Enjoy.
Really liked the way your version Od the classi lure turned out! Those look like the Heddon Sonic. Thanks for this interesting video!
You bet!
They made these with a tail section too. I kind of want to experiment with that, maybe even make it removable with a split ring.

good stuff right there well done thanks for sharing that. I believe I may add some fins to some of my lipless.
The green and yellow one looks a lot like a lure I used successfully in the past for pompano.
Very interesting build. It looks like the end result of the silver baits the fin also reduced the swimming angle of the bait. Of course I'm no fish, but it seems like a more natural swim angle.
The nose weight was a lead slug ,that holds the weight in place ,then is snipped off after the bait comes out of the mold

I want what he's smoking 😁
Edit after the video: that was fun. When are we going to get an update on the sail boat project?
How about a Mann’s Pogo Shad with a fin !!!!! 1/2 once!
Make you a nose weight mold ,which is a drilled hole between two peace’s of alum.,this will make you a lead rod
If the fin is soft plastic bite hook up might be better
Cool build
Doesnt low frequency travel farther in water?
Love frequency travels farther through air and water
After watching the video I'm wondering if a fin on some of the longer lures would greatly change the action and if so what if the fin was shaped so thin at the top and same size as the body, would the tapering change the dynamic s of the lure?
Most likely...but would take some experimentation.
rattle chamber next
How long does it take you to make a bait in real time? I'm thinking about trying my hand at making one.
Anything from a couple of hours to a couple of days...it depends on the lure.
Heloo, I want to know what kind of clear coat are you using on the end. Thank you?!

@@EngineeredAngler Thank you!
Headon sonic, clear was a deadly bait ,please make
Do you think under water frogs are a good idea?
Sure...I use to have one. It was foft plastic but hade a dive bib. I don't know who made it though.
Hello I’m wondering if there is a good clear “rubber” coating that’s is not flex seal
There's a clear Plasticoat...Plásticos... but I'm not sure it will work for you.
Make body out of 3/8” lexan
👍👍👍💖💖🐠
How do the fish like 'em?
We'll have to see...
@@EngineeredAngler will you give us a report... made my own lipless crank inspired by your first video... muskie sized...
Is it just me, wouldn't you make sure you have enough battery life if you are in fact recording a video for your UA-cam channel 🤔 😅 😂
Happens to the best of them
You would think so...
