- I was invited to the 2nd CBT of Wuthering Waves, an open world action gacha game that I really wanted to try out. I've played and am still playing Punishing Gray Raven so I really wanted to see how Kurogame tackled an open world game with their style of combat. And my lord, this game absolutely cooked. I'm glad to say that Kurogame fully and entirely blew me away with this game. And so I wanted to make a review/video/meme, honestly I'm not entirely sure what you can classify this as, but the games pretty nice with it.

About the story, being a post-apocalyptic world, more danger is expected. Looking at other gachas of the same genre like Arknights and PGR, at least in the main story you're in a fucked up situation most of the time. But even in those mentioned, the real danger comes later. WW just needs something dramatic and impactful at the beginning that brings curiosity about Lore, like the chernobog catastrophe or Lucia asking to turn off her pain receptors and the confrontation with Alpha. YangYang almost overclocking is a good example, they should have kept this part and added something important we should do to save her.
Not YangYang. According to her lore she cannot overclock. Seriously her report says "no risk". I'm assuming this is because her wavelengths don't sustain high enough peaks. Overclocking also doesn't seem to be as threatening as you think it is because there are plenty of characters with a "history of Overclocking". I would rather they just make Crownless a scripted fail
You can blame the CN turds for us getting a very bland story....the character being hostile towards the MC was a good thing,but they changed that coz of CN players comments

This is the thing with mobility that games miss, that run up against the wall not only looks cool but fits the narrative in an immersive way. Genshin copied Zelda but Link climbing fits it's narrative he is the chosen one but still human and he has gear to significantly increase climb speed but in genshin you are playing literal gods and all they can do is fucking slowly climb, for fucks sake Zhongli can call down a meteor from outer space and all he can do is slow climb, what in the fuck hoyo copying that climb wasnt necessary, that breaks immersion.

Anyways as for why the story is that way in the 1st half. There's common tendency with games that want to show off their world building, it's that they spend a lot of their first hours walking around the world and have people explaining stuffs. PGR, Genshin, Honkai 3rd, AK, etc... you name it. They basically want you to get a feel of the world and get attached to it first but at the cost of the story. Ak and Endfield are what I would say extreme examples. As they spend about the first 6 hours just explaining stuffs to you.
Isnt in genshin in the first 10 minutes you already fighting with a fckg dragon while town is covered with a storm? 😅

The story is actually good, slow pace in the start then get way better from middle to end.
They just need to make crownless fight more aggressive like cbt1 then everything is okay.

The gap between Baizhi and Calcharo is due to a difference in roles. Baizhi is a support unit and Calcharo is a DPS unit. No shit he's going to outperform her. There would be a serious issue with balance if he didn't. It would either mean Baizhi needs nerfs or Calcharo needs buffs

Yeah about the story (even though i haven't played it) i see a lot of people complaining and let's just remind ourselves that this is the beginning of the game and it needs a start. Like if we go back to Mondstadt and look at the story and the "different" areas, yeah well it kind of pales in comparison to Sumeru or Fontaine for a example. All I'm saying is that the good locations and stories come later in most cases so give it some time. Not to mention that it's beta so they might change some stuff
Yup. Mondstat has the simplest story arc (which doesn't mean it's the worst. That distinction belongs to Inazuma) but it helps in setting up plot points that we're still exploring in Sumeru and Fontaine. All Kuro needs to do is focus on building a good base which gets the players invested in the story. Like Belobog in HSR or Liberl in Kiseki.
I really hope they will release WuWa soon because genshin next region will be coming also

WuWa will be a better product compared Endfield. It will be worth your time
And I say that as a long time Arknights fan, Endfield very core concept and direction is pretty bad.

As someone with photosensitivity (not epileptic), I can’t play these new games following this trend. They look cool, and hell yes wall-running in large open spaces and no stamina for running!, but I’m not gonna do a free or paid game that’s gonna give me severe eye pain

capturing enemy units is a beautiful mechanic because all they need to do is make hot monster waifu bosses and this game will be evergreen. even better if they're limited event bosses to amp up the fomo.
Imagine if when they do collabs you can fight bosses from the respective series and capture them as limited time only echoes. I'm mainly thinking of monster hunter and elder ring, but there's a ton of possibilities.

I feel like I've heard the same amount of hype back then for PGR and we all know how that went... Honestly as much as I would like WW to combat against Genshin, I personally will go towards playing Endfield since that one has an actual different gameplay.
You are certainly over exaggerating the popularity of pgr back then. It did have a vid with a million views but it didn't have advertisements of almost every genshin cc which wuwa does. Even now wuwa has a few million views over multiple videos. It's way more hyped but whether it will be successful or not- let's see
Pgr wasn't available everywhere and there was no advertisement for it. I legit had to look up youtube videos just so i can download the game on ios because it isn't available in my country. Wuthering waves won't have that issue + way more advertisement from the company and CC's and its also available on pc from day 1 and hopefully playstation.
Bro thinks endfield is something special…..personally I like to control my own characters …..games with ai controls have proven to be terrible……and very few people are hyped for endfield…..but eh I like that you put personally in your sentence to signify that it’s just you so personally I like ww more but that does not mean I will not play endfield…..I quit Genshin 2 years ago and I have been looking for a game that will give me the Genshin experience but without the atrocious mechanics and the abusive relationship with the devs
Bro wuthering waves advertisement is not like pgr it way more hyped than the majority of the gacha it the most anticipated non hoyo game even going by numbers
PGR was marketed very poorly so I highly doubt you heard that. Also it wasn't on PC on launch so a lot of people had to wait for a PC client(like me). Seriously a lot of PGR players I know have only found out about the game on accident or by some random chance. I only found out about PGR because I subbed to Volkin at the time for ToF and he made a video about it a while later. Thankfully Kuro learned their lesson because they have really been pushing marketing for WuWa

The movement in this game does look really nice, particularly the air dashing part. It suggests to me there is significantly more potential for aerial combat and combos than Genshin has.

I liked most of the story, there's a lot of valuable info about the world building there, was kinda info dump but if they manage to make it more well paced it can become a great starting story.

PGR for me is not really that popular but it has a solid playerbase that keeps the game going and that is also what I think about Wuthering Waves. Just have a solid playerbase and good communication with the community then it's good to go.
I played epic 7, pgr, and wotv, not so popular games but those are still alive and most people thinks they are dead 😆.

@@Xedllin still alive I guess? Pretty stagnant in my opinion, needs more improvements, planned QOL are great but the implementation are just to slow. I think whales and dolphins (those who spent money) are keeping it alive since there's a lot of packs you can choose from that greatly boost your account.

@@Penguin-nx5nc genshin is on a "skip version" rn while idk what is happening on PGR CN but if it's a new powercreep or major update it's easy to see why it got number 1 in bilibili, kinda like how FGO is dormant almost an entire year but then it spikes up in relevance during anniv or summer.
If so; that is "seasonal hype" and doesn't really convert to a game's actual active player count.
Of course the combat is gas! Its the same company that made Punishing Gray Raven and that game is putting a lot of current action games to shame

This game might be successful, but it won't be popular. Not even 60% of HSR popularity, nor even 20% of Genshin, there's a lot of stuff that this game won't deliver well for a casual player. But surely this game will be a massive success in its own way.
$9-12M/month imo.
The game is trying to be casual friendly ALOT, you can expect Kuro to cook some fun events and little things that will please this type of audience, without sacrificing the separate hardcore challenges.

Ngl, It's already kind of given that it'll reach starrail popularity, since they both reached 10 million pregistrations in similar timeframes, and starrail was getting doomposted a whole lot more than ww before release and had more competition, yet it surpassed genshin revenue for several months.

@@Dendyaryadi The biggest issue it the echo system needs adjustments(mostly number tweaking and XP changes) and QoL. Everything else is extremely nitpicky or not hard to fix. Especially not for experienced devs like the ones working on WuWa.
