This was my first and last hurricane. We are going on day 4 with no electricity. It is pitch black you cannot see anything in front of you. Grocery stores are empty. The sound was so terrifying it sounded like the windows were going to blow away. A tree missed our house and feel in the street. Thank God because my little boy was asleep in his room and the tree missed hitting his room.

Our society is built to run on electricity. It’s not the tv and video games that most down here miss, it’s the refrigerator full of food that has gone bad since the power is out. You can’t get food from most stores (if you can find an open store) right now because their supply trucks can’t get here so it’s all gone. You can’t buy perishable foods because there’s no way to store them. It’s the AC needed to cool the buildings down to anything under 90 degrees. It’s the hot water heaters that need to work to help purify the water coming from damaged water lines. It’s the inability to turn on an electric stove and boil the water yourself. I’m not saying it’s not livable, but it’s a total 180 from normal and that’s why people are concerned. Any time “normal” is changed people get concerned. Covid was proof enough of that.
