had the pleasure of meeting him recently in Adelaide, such a cool dude and super down to earth, Andrew never disappoints live, great band and great dude!
He's shockingly humble. Had Wolfmother come out when rock still reigned supreme, they would have been worldwide superstars. Iconic guitar riffs, and iconic vocals. He still kills it live to this day.
Wolfmother/Andrew is a "must see" event. Their live shows are late 60's epic of what rock stars really were. He plays very little lead on the studio stuff vs the Hendrix experience that he is able to channel live. My buddy & I were fortunate to see him in one of the most iconic spots on the planet in The Tabernacle. He had his full rigs back then & blew our brains out with his raw intensity & much unexpected virtuoso. For those of you who don't know who Seasick Steve is-look into him. His "I Started Out With Nothing But I Still Have Most Of It Left" show is legend.
Was at this show and kept wondering where his amps were. Then I came home and found out PG filmed a rig rundown and got excited. I didn't know I'd be checking UA-cam every day for 3 months. lol
Wolfmother - one band that started with a huge following, songs in shows and movies, and playing festivals and arenas , to playing in front of a couple hundred people.
Debating getting one myself and struggle with the fact that it’s essentially 6yr old computer tech. It’s clearly still relevant and more power than I could ever use!
Awesome RR ! I guess Andrews pedalboard is the same for lots of working musicians that must hit the road where you will find all kind of troubles, worst case scenario type of pubs and venues and thats what it is to be on the road with your band, so respect for Andrew and Wolfmother ! Keep on rocking, keep on rolling !! Great video Premier Guitar cheers from South America !
Ok no excuses now. This is a man that we all associate with having a row of Marshall full stacks or vox ac30s behind him, and now he’s getting the same exact tone out of a line 6 helix I never wanted to say this in my life, but I think technologies finally catching up
Love how PG somehow managed to find a host worse than Perry.. Immediately makes a "joke" about the band being Andrew's, which doesn't seem to go well.. so, quick edit.. Then the host grabs another guitar, while asking to do so.. which also doesn't seem to go well, so, quick edit to Andrew holding said guitar... Just give John more hosting! He's actually good at it, and a great musician, and knows what he's talking about..
I have the full size Spark Boost and it has become always on for me, occasionally adjusting the volume to achieve unity gain when engaging different pedals. On a somewhat related note, I recently saw the great Reverend Peyton and his Big Damn Band and noticed he had like eight separate full size equalizer pedals on his Pedalboard. I asked his tech about it and as I suspected, he was using a separate equalizer for each of his guitars, which are largely hollow and maybe semi hollow vintage electrics and a couple of resonators. And the Rev’s tone is one of the best I’ve heard. Did not notice the equalizer set up the couple of other times I’ve seen them.
remember when these guys were "saving rock music", winning grammys, getting name dropped by everyone, playing huge shows and festivals... then the 2 other guys left and the record label decided to put their money behind tame impala instead
@@JoelyPera yes, my band were also talking to modular records about signing at the same time as tame impala... wolfmother were modulars cash cow, and they were scared they were going to lose that when the other members left... tame impala at the time had the same sort of old school 70s riff thing going on, which was proving to be popular for the label... so they backed them instead...
I saw them live with the original lineup at a small venue in the US and I can say that the bass / keyboard player was out of this world. I would imagine that the other two players were a big part of the sound and songwriting especially considering how much better the first album is than all the others.
@@MOONfacekillasaw the original lineup at outside lands back in 09 and they sounded so fucking huge. They covered riders on the storm and baba o Reilly. Def makes more sense now cause those first two albums were gnarly.
Was never into Wolfmother but I do enjoy a couple of their tunes even as a huge Mike Patton/FNM fan. 🙃. Andrew seems like a good dude and quite laid back. That economy rig is something else -- getting some damn good tone from the HX Stomp.
I'm a big fan; I have a Wolfmother tribute band, and it was hard to emulate his guitar sound. I prefer the Ampero against the HX, but now I know why he modified the giant pedal board he used to have. Many guitar players are looking for the most practical setup on their gear.
Man you can really almost feel the tonality and resonance on the White Falcon during the live performance of Apple Tree. I need to stop putting off getting a Gretsch.
Looks like a stock Vox AC30 with 3 options. Really nothing special it seems. But you gotta have a lot of trust in the PA systems playing smaller gigs like that. Unless they decided to bring their own PA on the road. Mostly looks like small gigs, a step below theaters. Also looks like those are hired US musicians from another band.
@@nickhem12yeah honestly this seems like a budget cut. Another commented how they got dropped from their main label, other guys left. This is the only way he’s gonna make money. I’m sure any festivals he’s booked for, are going to provide a backline. Even theaters will have a Deluxe Reverb or Twin. A smaller bar type venue like that, you just have to pray they have a decent PA.
blame Kiss and the bands that put up fake walls of Marshalls for that perception you just need a good tone and good songs doesnt matter where it comes from

"something magical happens after the first headstock break" 😂😂 yeah you stop caring as much about breaking it. 😂 That's about it. I've played both and I'll take unbroken any day. Some of these guys with their guitar myths are really funny.
Nice to see his rig. It’s a bit sad cause Wolfmother could have gone so far. I don’t know what went wrong after Cosmic Egg and his featuring with Slash. Bad choices maybe It seems he has so much to complain about
It took 5 years to make Cosmic Egg which didn't have any hits and at that point rock had shifted to the indie stuff. That and he kept firing the band members and didn't really have anywhere to go sonically.
It’s tragic, what costs, Covid, etc have done to stage rigs … 😭😢. Sorry, but the tone in this video is shite. Mind you, I watched a cool doco on the GnR St Louis riot, just before this - so I understand not wanting your best gear on tour …

Every song. Banger
it was the rhythm section. the bass/organ player was the star

until Jimmy Page completely stole their act

@@joelsmith4816 He doesn't use an amp. It's just the Line 6 HX.

Wolfmother - one band that started with a huge following, songs in shows and movies, and playing festivals and arenas , to playing in front of a couple hundred people.
sounds like they're bigger in Europe than they are here these days
they're huge even here in Spain. I remember they were closing down a festival and the gig was incredible, both the band and the vibe of the crowd
the original lineup was what was great about them
Mike Patton: “Wolfmother you suck!”
I still remember that part 😂
It was more like. "what the hell is that shit... "Wolfmother?" Who the fuck listens to this! HAHA
"Can I get an amen!?"
He wasn't wrong...
Just goes to show you how insanely good those HX stomps are. I LOVE mine to pieces.
Debating getting one myself and struggle with the fact that it’s essentially 6yr old computer tech. It’s clearly still relevant and more power than I could ever use!
So there you go. If a HX Stomp Modeller is good enough for a guitar band like Wolfmother then modellers are good.
Used to have (almost) his exact rig with a 1973 Gibson SG into an Orange AD30 stack. Sounded massive!
I’ve never heard him speak, had no idea he was Australian! He’s got one of my favorite guitar tones, ever
He’s so quirky and odd. I fricken love it. Then slams the stage with crazy riffs and a massive voice.
i cannot stay away from clicking a video with a good SG Guitar of Devilry honor showing

It’s not the exact same tone. It is similar though.
And yet this is excactly the kind of band I want to see with real amps. Not with modeling, however great that might sound.
It's not the same- vibe suffers.
Road crew, load in, load out, travel, time, and back line costs and issues go away; he keeps one tone and focuses on his show. Makes sense to me.
We travel with 5 amps all the time, it isn't that bad. @@seeyouinhale2317

Their first album is a rock and roll gem
Underrated band and riffs!
Especially “The Earths rotation around the sun”
MF literally sells out every night, no manager, no labels. Just a stomp box and 2 other dudes, a real guitar hero.
