The thing I liked about the concept of the terror toads is that they looked enough like the TMNT line that you could use them as enemies or friends of your legit Turtles.
The terror toads seem like villains becaus the name
I love how TMNT was basically an accident. It's perfect.
Man. That vintage clip of a toy store with the sea of purple carded real ghostbusters figs is what my dreams are made of! 😍
“Pizza loving samuraI” while talking about NINJA turtles. Lol it’s all love tho.
IKR? Pizza loving samurai is usually reserved for the Samurai Pizza Cats.
@@jeremyriley1238 gawdang it!!! You bested me... I came to say that 🤣🤣
I like the Idea of Teenage Mutant Samurai's :)
tyrone kinard ...... no.
Concidering Samurai and Ninjas are completely different groups. Ninja's were bolth vigilantes or assassins. Samurai were honorable warriors that followed the way of the Bushido code.
For me, the 90's were nearly only about TMNT and the Power Rangers. Those were really the biggest toylines of the entire decade. The 80's was really gold with an iconic new toyline coming out every year.
Indeed 🤓 so much toy history 🤩
@Zwenk Wiel I cared about decades. I spent the whole 90's wishing I was back in the 80's. Plus at the time, I really hated 90's fashion as I thought everyone went from trying to look cool in the 80's, into looking like dorks in the 90's. As far as action figures and cartoons, etc. There really isn't anything new that came out in the 90's that became iconic like what we got in the 80's.
@Zwenk Wiel The cartoons like Transformers, He-Man, GI-Joe, Voltron, etc. I knew those were new releases because I watched them when they first aired. Now, there were other cartoons and shows like Flint Stones, Addams Family, Twilight Zone, Star Trek TOS, etc. that I was aware of that were older shows and cartoons that came out before my time.
I also remember watching for the end credits at the end of cartoons and shows to see what year they were released in.
The comics had some fun knock-offs as well. I recall Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters lasting a while, and I had the first issue if Pre-Teen Dirty-Gene Kung Fu Kangaroos. The latter was rather self-aware, and Peter Laird even drew Donatello in as a cameo!
Kung fu kangaroes 🤣🤣🤣👌
I like the sound of that kangaroo book!
I was coming to add this comment, albeit 2 yrs later, there was so many and I collect them all,
I have an old comic I bought years ago “Chamellion commandos” it reminded me of the turtles so I had to have it
Imagine pulling out of you bag at school... the turly gang, all the other kids be like ahhahahahahahah
🤣🤣
It's a nice little bit of obscure toy history when you look at the knock-offs that were made based on the popular toy line. It's certainly something you don't see come up very often.
Biker Mice from Mars may not have been a big contender like Turtles and other 90's brands figures. But they still had a large range of figures and retools. My guess they are at least top 10 action figure in sales.
1: Turtles
2: He-Man & The Masters of the Universe
3: Star Wars (The Kenner figures, They were big among collectors)
4: GI Joe
5: Transformers
6:Power Rangers
8: Biker Mice
9: Thundercats
10: Probably a tie between Action Man or Street Sharks?
Correct me if i forgot any.
I have toy history episode withdrawal symptoms 😂...karate turtles look cool 🤙🏼 turly gang 😆👍🏽
Haha 🤣👌
A friend of mine only collects knock-off toys she has some weird and wonderful things in her collection 🤣😂🤣 Pretty cool stuff though 😎
I like these knock off episodes. I think it was MUCH harder to get any of these in the U.S. Copyright laws were strictly enforced, so these are nice pieces to see and know.
Thanks 🤓
Me and my kids love watching your content, thanks and keep up the good work!
Thanks 🤓
Very informative Ed! It's amazing how powerful of an IP TMNT really is. I mean the brand is still causing empty shelves and instant sell outs online. When the Wave 3 TMNT cartoon figures hit Targets later this year I'll be surprised if I ever see any. The movie Turtles are causing huge issues for collectors trying to score from Walmart. I'm still waiting to see if that Casey / Raph 2 pack will show up at my local stores.
Im always behind on getting that new stuff cuz its preorder only here 😢 never ever in a store
When You're just a kid the knockoffs and the bootlegs are pretty awesome...but now when We are grownups they make us laugh loud and understand that reaction of "WTF?!" 🤣
KOOL-INFO ED! READY FOR THE NEXT VIDEO,
The artwork on the Hero's of the World packaging looks like it was done by people who used to paint those human oddity banners for traveling carnivals.
Haha 🤣🤣
Another EPIC Retro Toy video !
Love these videos. Good thing I was able to ge tv a few tmnt toys for Christmas and birthday growing up. Also, had some biker mice from mars toys and street sharks. Keep up the great videos
Thanks buddy 🤓
I had all four "Turtles Fighters"-figures. Won them at the local fairground shooting gallery in my town here in Germany, back in 1991. I kinda liked them, but I also had the real figures of course, which were ten times better - at least.
Awesome 🤠
I remember the Terror Toad. It was always in discount stores or mom & pop toy stores around my way.
My favorite toyline, cartoon, and video game that was inspired by TMNT is Earthworm Jim.
Cowboys of Moo Mesa was created by Ryan Brown who worked on Tmnt comics and cartoons. Cowboys also has appeared on multiple TMNT cartoon as cameos. So I and tmnt fandom don't count the Moo Mesa Characters as rip offs. Playmates made the Moo Mesa toys too. They're within a same but parallel universe exact same as Usagi Yojimbo is to tmnt appeared in comics together and cartoon and playmates made their action figures too.
These are the best !
Thanks 😍
This is exactly what I was hoping would pop up on my feed. Great video!
Thanks 🤓
My uncle bought me bootleg ninja turtle once and this figure was dope af
I'm from Germany and I remember those Turly Gang figures, they were sold at drug stores and discounters. Even when I was a kid those figures made me laugh, they are so ridiculous. I thought they took MOTU torsos and smashed TMNT heads on them.^^
And that picture of the kid eating the cereal is why I can never hold a public office!
Id vote for that guy! Cereal eating vigilante by morning and public office worker by day u got my vote 🤠
If it don’t sell on a skateboard just pop it on a horse! 😆😆 Keep up the great work Ed these are so awesome!! 20k is just around the corner keep at it!!! ❤️
Thanks 🤠 the food video with the turtle pies was awesome! 🤣🤘
Hey Laura love your content as well. Do you have the toys food fighters?
50k in only a year from this comment!!!!
When l was a kid growing up in the 80s and watching TMNT, I always wanted them to give the turtles female counterparts like they did The Chipmunks.
TMNT. Counterparts
Leanordo. Leanne
Donnatello. Donna
Raphael. Raphine
Michaelangelo. Mikayla
Idk why but this is disturbing to me
They should be named after artists
@@JK-nj3bt why do feel disturbed? I know what you probably thinking. That lm a grown ass man watching this, but back in the day, the TMNT was my shit. I was obsessed with the cartoon.
The Turtles fighters bootleg was the most creepy one, I remember those being sold here in Brazil...
So good! I remember having that frog with an eye patch with the battery powered skate board lol and turtle fighters
Bodacious Bootlegs. Great stuff, loving this series dude. Keep em comin'. Turtle Power!!
Thanks dude 🤓
I had a teenage mutant ninja Tortoise skate board as a kid. I couldn’t understand why they got the name wrong at the time lmao. I wish I still had it.
Loving your content and especially the knock off vids! Can’t wait to see if you do transformers! I remember falling for a few of those myself growing up as I collected more and more, heck even family would confuse them with the actual line itself and gift them to me! Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks 🤓
I remember X Men action figures from the 90s uncanny cartoon most vividly.
That introtune 🤘
Yes Ed! Knock off's are so interesting. I had a Rambo Action Figure Knock off once but moved it on last year. Like you said, there is a big market for them and I often wonder how many are still out there in the bottom of forgotten toy boxes and buried deep within the earth of people's Gardens / Yards lol :) Nice one mate
Aw man. The pentagram head bootlegs made it all the way to Scotland , I seen them at a market when I was a kid and it just triggered memories there
Epic
Yes a toy history! This made my day! I still have TMNT toys :) i bought new ones for my....son xD (and a bit for myself) ;)
Thanks 🤓
I used to have Terror Toad on a skateboard. I never allowed him to join the plays I had with my actual licensed turtles characters. I was a corporate-brainwashed boy😄
🤣🤣🤣 awesome
You need more than 17k subs, this is the best toy channel I've found, and only 1 of 3 im subbed to. Love your content and presentation man .... although Im biased, because you look and talk like you are part of my fathers side of the family so I feel like we're related. Either way, love your stuff, keep it up!
second best after pixel dan
Third best after Toy Galaxy
Don’t forget about Retroblasting, Laura Legends, 200 more 🤣 I’m happy to hear you like the videos 🤓👌
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Not a huge fan of Laura, she's cute and knows how to make content, but she doesn't seem genuine to me. She has said many things about the toys she's talking about that were wrong. As though she doesn't actually know toys that well, but she knows men will sub to watch a pretty girl talk about them, and it feels like she's pretending to take advantage of the collector demo. So I dont watch her stuff.
TMNT still popular to this day which is really really awesome and by the way I Was Born in 2003.
Tmnt forever!!
Remember some of this I found them so cool ..
They get interesting as the years go by 🤠
Love watching your videos on dxm man haha!
Thanks 🤓
I had a Genesis game called action 52 and cheetah men was on it. I found it at a yard sale for 2 dollars
Having AVGN flashbacks
Thats a sought after cart right there. Fantastic find!
Awesome find 🤠
That may be worth quite a bit of money.
I grew up nearby the Creators of TMNT where they had a studio in North Hampton Massachusetts.
Awesome 😍😍
@@EdsRetroGeekOut it was cool knowing that when I was a kid. You should do a video of the treasure troll craze and the knockoffs such as battle trolls or troll warriors aimed towards boys.
I still love the Turtles to this day.
Turtle power!
Man the rip offs stopped at nothing. Then each brand send out feed backs to each other making the battle more interesting.I saw a motu skeletor designed like a galaxy warrior or spectrum.See through chest with water and glitter in the water.
Yeah speclatron’s dethlor 🤓
Great Video! Can’t get enough of these knock off toys!! Love all the turtles!!
Thanks 🤓
I love this show and your intro music I have used this same song in a number of my own videos 😎👍
Retrograde from the UA-cam library killer track 🤘🤠
@@EdsRetroGeekOut my other favorite is a country western sounding one but it's really good, called searching for cats I think. I love it, and I try to use it every time I can hahaha😎👍
“....even Picasso would frown an eye.”
What the hell does that even mean? I don’t believe Picasso is famous for randomly picking colors and/or throwing paint at canvas.
It was on the edge of surrealisme tough 🤣
Like your show lol I miss the old days of playing those toys
I would have actually played with all of those, personally, and integrate them within my turtle/He-Man battles, lol.
What is funny about you mentioning parents buying the Terror Toad for their birthdays is that my mother bought one for my then friend's birthday party - if I recall, his birthday party was on a Saturday. I never went to the party because we had gotten lost finding the address even though I lived in the same town as my friend; now that I think about, they probably gotten lost on purpose because they were (and are) helicopter parents and were worried something bad would happened to me. Anyway, I brought it with me to hand it him on the following school day; I was hesitant to give it to him since it was clearly a bootleg. However, he was happy when he received it.
P.S. My mother was well aware that it was a bootleg, but likely bought it from the flea market because it was cheap and convenient.
A gift is awesome everytime even if its a bootleg 🤓
Interestingly enough the COWBoys of Moo Mesa crossed over with the TMNT a few times, in the later iteration of the Mirage comic series and a cameo in an episode of TMNT Fast Forward, most likely due to the Moo Mesa creator, Ryan Brown, being a former artist on the Mirage comics and designing a version of April O’Neil we’d see in the Archie Comics.
Awesome 🤠
Well that's it. I gotta have terror toad for Christmas
That’s the spirit! 🤠
Giant Splinter is amazing!
When i was younger i hated KO figs. As i got older i really got into KO toys. Biker mice from mars was sooooooooooooooo good. Loved it!!!!
Biker mice was awesome 🤘
Did he call them Samurai?? REEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
lol just kidding, loved the video. great job!
Thanks 🤓🤣🤘
I remember Cheetah Men from that episode of AVGN.
I am really wanting to get into collecting the Turly Gang. Since I collect just about everything that has that Galaxy warrior type style. I hope to get lucky soon an venture into this rabbit hole...lol!!!
Good luck dude 🤘🤠
10:55 I remember someone posted a picture of that bootleg on Instagram! 🤣🤣
Awesome video enjoyed watching big thumbs up see you :)
Thanks 🤓
Been checkin out your channel ,& i m enjoyin it !.Quit the toy gig this year, but enjoyed the past 50 yrs. , & stories bout the plastic( & PVC) : D
Thanks so much 🤓
Really great video dude as of a knockoff toy collector this was a very enjoyable video
Thanks 🤓
you might look like edward norton, but you the man, bro. your channel is one of my absolute faves.
🤣🤘
Ed, you mentioned - "If you were an early 90s kid....."The comic book and the cartoon were originally from the 80s.
90-91 saw the height of the hype real turtlemania, eventough the comic book was released in mid 80’s it was popular with older kids and you adults, the cartoon started at the end of the 80s sure but we need to allow a certain amount of time before we can talk about a pop culture phenomenon
I think I remember some of those knock offs but never bought any.
“When Micheal Bay was about to take a step at destroying the franchise” This is how Transformers fans feel as well.
🤣
Hey Ed! Do you have a link to the toy aisle shot you used at 1:47? I'd love to see some more of that sequence since it features Real Ghostbusters! 😍
Yeah it doesn’t zoom in on the ghostbusters i was hoping for that too 🤦♂️ it’s right there film it!!
Yeah it doesn’t zoom in on the ghostbusters i was hoping for that too 🤦♂️ it’s right there film it!!
Jou toy history filmpjes zijn echt heel goed Ed!
Danku 🤓
I HAD THE TERROR TOAD!!!!! 🤣🤣
I was actually pretty happy with the gift! My mum brought it to me after coming from a trip (I already had the real Mikey and Leo, I needed some enemies!). I tried to get it off the skate, but I broke the platform. The plastic is the figure was actually good. Too bad the legs couldn't move. Too bad I also lost the sword, very early on...
Oh! And I remendar those "goblin turtles" (can't remember the name, the ones with KKK hoodies). Dude, they were AWFUL. Limbs were made of rubber, and they had that silly gimmick were you pull it, and it throws a punch or kick! My little neighbor had it, and I always made fun of him for that (don't feel sorry, his parents had a lot more money than my mum and me!).
Awesome 🤠
Kenner real Ghostbusters and the playmates turtles are the goats.
When you spoke about the Stone protectors, I thought you were going to mention Battle Trolls also =)
There were enough trolls in this vid 🤣
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Naaah.., you can never get enough trolls in a video ;)
🤣
Dude i absolutely love your channel!!!! - Bull
Thanks so much 🤓
My bootleg movie 2 turtles from that modern lot arrived with bonus decapitated don. Quite the feature. 😄
Would love to see you look at the Argentinean Turtle Tank
Love that thing! The crazy colors
I love hearing about these knock-offs!
Haha, that Terror Toad artwork doesn't even look that bad. I imagine they commissioned an artist or had one nearby for the box, since I struggle to believe they'd permanently employ someone that good.
Biker mice from Mars was epic
Near my home state, I go to a toy store and it has an entire section of bootleg action figures. On the section are some of the knockoff turtles.
😍 i need to go there!
Ed's Retro Geek Out Ceiling to Floor of toys. When you’re ready to go there, contact me and I’ll send you the address
It’s a strange paradox that the more popular something is, the more it gets ripped off.
Moo Mesa was even produced by Mirage in comics. In the comics they were even the same universe with the TMNT.
Mom, can we have Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
No, we have TMNT at home.
TMNT at home: Turly-Gang
Great video ed, always interesting and learning something new about tmnt.
Thanks 🤓
I found the skateboard toad a week ago. I like it. It's so bad it's cool😂
Indeed 🤠
12:48 I thought that there was only a pilot episode 🤔
Could be but it didn’t stop them from turning it into a vhs release 🤠
I love knock off toys lol, as long as I didn't get them :)
I would absolutely love to see him cover Transformers or the 90’s Trendmasters Godzilla toys.
Ill have to look those up 🤓
Ed's Retro Geek Out As a fan of both franchises if you need help let me know
Ninja turtles were my childhood. Subbed n liked
Turtle power! 🤘
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Heroes in a Halfshell 🐢
i liked my terror toad on a skateboard. kinda made me sad when your said it was the worst.
Ahh the knock offs. I had a few too
Loved the cereal
Cool toy history video 🤘🏼👍🏼
Thanks buddy 🤓
Have you heard of the CGI TMNT reboot movie with Seth Rogen as one of the producers?
🤦♂️ do i wanna know
yes stay rad ed! i love biker mice from mars!
They were so cool 🤠🤘🤘
All I really collect is KOs. The problem is all the good bootlegs were mostly European. I have spent years chasing down the Euro stuff.. Turly gang and galaxy warriors EOT specifically.. but tons of the great bootleg paint schemes are all euro in origin.. I have this dream of traveling over to Europe just to hunt down kOs. So much great stuff I don't even dare to mention as it may give you that much more competition in finding 🤣
They got some great ones 🤓
My ripoff would have been in total known as Extremely Modified Animal Warriors which would have been about mutated anthro animals like horses defending the world from fiends who sought to enslave the world.
The heroes would have been Stallions smooth leader Jerome, strong Mack, smart mouth and witty Faber, and wild card Wiley.
The mares would've been reasonable and compassionate Solstice who'd also be Jerome's girlfriend if not eventually wife, snarky Jade, and tech genius Gelida.
Supporting characters would have been mentor Master Owl, friend and restaurant worker Chaz, news reporter Jane Hunter, and agent Lyle Beacon.
The villains would've included the evil society of Dominative led by the treacherous Dr. Prediver, aka the Destroyer. Her minions would include mutated beings, associates, employees, and assassins just to name a few.
The leads' home would be within a hidden cavern located in the Ramble of Central Park of New York City though further stories would go out to other places and eventually other stories set in this universe.
I love this storyline it would be like cowboys of moo mesa but with horses 😆
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yeah only I'd include other elements like samurai and ninjas for example.
😆 if you would have pitched that ar hasbro or mattel in 1990 they would have signed right away!
I don't suppose that even if I have a chance that I should pursue making this idea a reality. Pushing the boundaries while making sure not to make the same mistakes that even Michael Bay did with the ninja turtles.
Stone Protectors... I thought I had excised that from my childhood memories...
i beleive in the uk it was turtle fighters because the name ninja had to be changed , i read that some place.
Hero 🤘
I’m only 11 but I collect vintage toys but I only have Gumby and his horse
Awesome
