Some of these are crazy stories Ed. McFarlane Toys caused a couple of controversies with Toys R Us. I love Bryan Kranston's tweet about burning his Florida Mom figure. I love how you seamlessly go from one toy to another on these. This is one of the best toy segments on UA-cam. Keep up the great work Ed.
I'd forgotten about the "mass market" variations of the Austin Powers figures, aside from Fat Bastard being "Fat Man" in Toys R Us stores. That Barbie thing was definitely odd-like you said, most boy's toy lines had sparking or working caps in them. Even Transformers had half a dozen spark "fire" breathing toys!
No way! I had that Ken version of the Rollerblade Barbie. I loved that toy! Never got hurt once and I played with it for years: watching those rollerblades spark was so awesome! Had no idea they were banned...
I had a toy gun as a kid called the "Razer Ray Gun". It shot out sparks pretty far and made a cool noise. The sparks didn't hurt at all if you put your hand in front of the gun, but my little bitch cousin swore I hurt him with them and got me in trouble.
Ultimately Zartan became much more popular, due to his original file card it already made an edgy cool figure even cooler because of the controversy...
Thank you, that the most interesting recommendations from UA-cam 4 that month. I'am a kid of the 90s and man I have so much nostalgic moments when I watch your videos. Keep it up, and stay Healthy!
@matt fahringer it's just a basic flint/steel system, similar to a lighter. Few years ago my parents moved out of my childhood home and I took some boxes of toys from the attic. I'd have to check. Its in my attic now. For some reason I swear it still sparked.
@matt fahringer I guess a few things could go bad. I know for sure it still made the sound, so the mechanical system was still intact. Flint is only good until you've shaved it all off, but the steel portion could rust and deteriorate overtime and not make contact with the flint.
When I was a kid we loved to eat Aqua Dots but then one day they just took them off the market for no apparent reason. I was so distraut I shook for weeks, and couldn't sleep.
I got the Walter White figure at Toys R Us right before they closed. Figure came with a hand gun, sack of cash and hidden behind the feet was a bag of “meth”. Very cool figure.

Wasn’t the 1979 Kenner 18-inch Alien replica action figure banned when it came out? And remaining stock subsequently ended up in bargain bins! Great video, Ed!
@@Daftanemone Some of these are kids and parents in particular, being stupid or ignorant. But a good lot of these are also companies that should've had common sense as well. Not too many people realize that and just blame "snowflakes" for everything.

2:30 In their defense; pre-21st Century, Mental illnesses were horribly misunderstood, so I think it's safe to say they meant "Multiple Personality Disorder", but mistook it for "Paranoid Schizophrenia". Heck, both of those conditions have been renamed since then.
The Moral of this video.. If you don't want to talk to your kids about something. Start a petition and ban it . So since Pokemon sounds like Poker Man and I don't want to talk to my kids about gambling. PETITION :P
In the older Pokémon games there was slot machines, but in the remake it was replaced with a new mini game. So someone did complain about Pokémon and gambling :P
That Mike toy was banned because nunchucks was banned in the UK. As it was part of set, they banned it. In most cases they would just sell Mike without weapon. His weapon was edited in cartoons as well in the UK.
Roller Blade Barbie wasnt recalled before it caused issues, a little girl went up in flames. She had a ton of hairspray on (90's hair...) and the sparks caused her to go up in flames. There is even footage from a court hearing, showing how dangerous the doll was and how easily it started fires. Saurod on the other hand used different metals and the sparks that came out of him were far too cold temperature wise to cause ignition. What's weird is Saurod came out BEFORE Rollerblade Barbie, so why this ever happened is a mystery.
The Zartan recall wasn’t that unreasonable, but the Teletubbies one was almost definitely just a stunt to get those horrifying things out of the house.
I didn't know about the pokeball. I actually laughed when you showed the clip of the baby. Are people really that stupid for doing that. Well I guess they were.
The best history is toy history. It's so fun to see how children of old played, the trends that were popular, and the hit/miss toy that was either iconic or forgotten with time.
That Teletubbie didn't just say _"Bite me butt."_ It would also repeat a, let's say, anti-gay slur. My little sister still has it because it was canceled/recalled.
I had Zartan! Changing his “skin” color was really cool. My Mom, to her credit, seemed just as excited as I was when I tried it out the first time!!!! Another “banned” toy I got, not mentioned here, was the WWF Al Snow w/the ORIGINAL “Head” figure. Some parents groups complained thinking it was a real severed head. So, they changed it to a clearly fake, mannequin head. Being in my early 20’s and working next to a Toys R Us, I went and got the OG version when it became obvious they were going to recall, and yes, I still have it, in storage, for now! I plan on adding it to the rest of my displayed collection, hopefully soon!😁😂👍🏼
Hahaha 😂🤣😂. he said pokemon is" drugs for kids" I love it. I'm friggin subscribing on that note. 😂p. s. We ALL need a florida mom action figure to burn at will!
Toy's R Us still sold questionable toys in the UK until they closed. They had a collectors/ adult section & I got Joker & Harley Quinn figures (expensive sort). Both are characters a younger child may not understand. But that's what parents are for. As a kid I didn't stand looking at knives in a supermarket I found soft toys or crafts. Just as with most dangerous items I couldn't have bought them if I was very young. Thanks for the Teletubby bit as I knew there was a recall only didn't know what was said. Hadn't expected that, funny though.
Oh and Entertech guns. “The look, the feel, the sound so real, ENTERTECH” Cause of removal? Everything the slogan said got kids shot and killed, criminals used them in crimes and it out LJN out of business. It was referenced in movies like Airheads and Die Hard
the funny thing is if that florida moms kids doctor prescribed aderall to her hyper active kid she would be literally giving that same thing to her kid but if its fda approved its alright but to a chemistry teacher there is a lot of irony there
I had the rollerblade Barbie shown in the video. When I was little I enjoyed the light spark it made when Barbie skated. I never knew it went on recall and I guess my mom didn’t either because it was never taken away. I had the Barbie until I grew out of my toy stage.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yeah, it's the figure where he's in the Scottish attire with bag pipes. It has his name on the bottom left corner of the card. eBay has one to check (tried to post the link but it got deleted here)
The spark toys were great fun, as a kid we used to pour aftershave or whatever flammable liquid we could find on the scalextrik track and do Back to the Future burnouts
That one, you'd think the manufacturer would figured out beforehand. I mean, when he was in the ring, he obviously has a mannequin head, but when you shrink both the wrestler and accessories down, and cast it all in the same plastic, the line between mannequin head and severed human head isn't quite as clear. haha
Growing up in the 80/90’s was awesome, truly the pinochle of the raddest toys, cartoons/toy commercials and sugary cereals. I still collect some “action figures” today but the really cool ones are practically hyper detailed mini statues like the McFarland DC line. Also in what other era let a child sleep with a talking, child molester/killer doll (Freddy Kruger)
The barbie skates are horrifying, just hearing the lighter flip noises make me cringe! 🤣 I had a Reptar from rugrats that sparked but the sparks were contained inside clear plastic for the flash. I have a motu figure i think might have used to do it but im not sure, hes not the best shape but I had to rescue him from that dusty corner in a antique store haha. Grew up with chemistry sets and real gasoline powered go karts and a mini bike oh the horrors !
Mc farlane always pushing the envelope 🤩
First Angela figures without panties l didn't notice till you toy fare or some magazine mentioned it 😲
I'd forgotten about the "mass market" variations of the Austin Powers figures, aside from Fat Bastard being "Fat Man" in Toys R Us stores.
That Barbie thing was definitely odd-like you said, most boy's toy lines had sparking or working caps in them. Even Transformers had half a dozen spark "fire" breathing toys!
Oh yeah the caps in the robocop toys 🤩
Barbie also had that talking one that got pulled for being sexist when she said "Math is hard". There may have been other pulled Barbie's as well...
That sparking Ghostbusters toy was my favorite and I played with it endlessly.
They change the Barbie name to 'Arsonist Barbie'. Now that's marketing!
No way! I had that Ken version of the Rollerblade Barbie. I loved that toy! Never got hurt once and I played with it for years: watching those rollerblades spark was so awesome! Had no idea they were banned...
Transformers G1 Monsterbots, Sparkabots and Firecons all shot sparks. These were considered safe as they were "cold sparks".
Awesome 🤓
Don't forget the " exploding Death Star " toy from Taco Bell!!!!
Cool 🤓
Man some of those clips bring back great memories
Nostalgia injections 🤓
Thank you, that the most interesting recommendations from UA-cam 4 that month.
I'am a kid of the 90s and man I have so much nostalgic moments when I watch your videos.
Keep it up, and stay Healthy!
Thanks for watching them 🤓
I worked at Target when they had us pull all the Talking Freddy Krueger Dolls off the shelves.
Yeah freddy should have stuck to nightmares even the max fx thing got cancelled due to them starting out woth freddy
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Right! I had one of those, but I didn't pick it up in a store. That was found second hand somewhere, don't remember where.
Then Pee Wee Happened that was a florida thing too
I still have my ninja action tmnt figures from the 90s .. it was still "ninja" in the Uk by the time i got mine.
Awesome 🙌
People apparently want to protect their kids they just can't be bothered with telling them not to stick toys in their mouths, etc.
Indeed 🤦♂️
I had the Zartan figure. I only remember him changing color and having different faces.
I always loved the spark toys from the 90s😭
I had the human toy Saurod. I think it still sparks
I forgot about the rgb one. Storm from the og x men line
Yes they made sure to hid the blue
I’m sure you hear this all the time, but the fact that you only have like 29k subscribers is mind boggling. Far and away the best toy channel on UA-cam
Thanks buddy, the numbers will come when they come I guess 🤓
I agree! He is one of the most fun & diverse toy reviewers & through him we see stuff from other continents! I learned of him through a certain Legendary Laura up north. SO maybe we should all share the toy love (& not in a way as to ban us lol)!
This is a *great* channel! I really like “Toy Galaxy”! (Warning: Functional Half-Brain required to enjoy the fantastically witty, written dialogue). Pixel Dan and Fwoosh are excellent too!
Im not surprised. He covers very surface level stuff that most collectors already know. Hes not breaking any new ground. Just repeats info. Not to mention there are countless other manchildren making retro 80s toy videos.
WOW. He edits as well as Ask Mojo, but the content is actually good.
10:30 " Who would You call...Firefighters! Who would You call...FIREFIGHTERS!!! 😁
Hello ghostbusters I need the firedepartment 😏👻
I miss the good ol' days of being a kid in the 70's, & having a real set of lawn darts.
🤣 oh yes!
Loose Estes engines worse than Roman candle Wars
Great vid Ed! Your Aqua reference was quality! 🤣🙌
😏🙏 thanks
Let’s not forget about the Al Snow WWF action figure that came with a mannequin head & was accused of promoting domestic abuse
@matt fahringer I’d watch the heck out of that!
As if picking fights and beating each other up isn't abusive in general.
Wasn’t the 1979 Kenner 18-inch Alien replica action figure banned when it came out? And remaining stock subsequently ended up in bargain bins! Great video, Ed!
Oh yeah i think i featured it in one of the episodes last august 🤓
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Cool! I’ll check that out for sure
Karen in the 70s l have him setting up on my shelf R rated movie toys who would buy those 🤔
My Cindersaur from Transformers G1 Firecons have same sparkling gimmick from his mouth :).
Ooh 🤩
Top notch writing and editing, dynamic, entertaining and interesting for die hard collectors and newbies. Keep up the great work!
Thanks buddy 🤓
Wow. Walter white survived Krazy 8, Tuco, The Twins, Gus Fring, & Hank, but couldn't make it past Florida Mom (now with "sign my petition" action!).
Yeah he’s not a happy camper 🤣
😆😆sign my petition action😂😂
Hey we have florida man radio much funnier than the mom
Hank doesn't really count.
Great video, like your calm, concise way of commentary
Even in the 80’s there were Karens. Incredible. They are a disease
🤣🤣🤣
That word Karen. Jesuss.....😂
There were a lot less then
Equating Karens to being equivalent to mental health activists really pissed me off in this video. Fuck off
@@Daftanemone Some of these are kids and parents in particular, being stupid or ignorant. But a good lot of these are also companies that should've had common sense as well. Not too many people realize that and just blame "snowflakes" for everything.
Finally a good channel to see good toy videos! New sub here, and really enjoy your videos. Toys never go out of style, and I have been a collector for more decades than most. Keep up the good work! :)
Thanks 🤘
Just found your channel awesome vid gonna have to catch up with the banned list videos. Have you managed to add any of the banned toys to your collection?
I have a couple but there’s some im definitly keeping my eyes open for since making the video unfortunatly during covid there hasn’t been any fleas or conventions so haven’t been hunting that much
Yeah same my comic and collectible hunting has been restricted to essentially eBay lol hopefully we can get some conventions and markets started up again soon
Yeah and mattel would have had acces to the same technology so 🤔
They should have banned those aerosols cans faster
@@RunnerX13 it's not the gasses in the cans that make hairspray flammable, hairspray itself is. A lot of them use alcohol to speed the drying process.
🤣
It was pretty much the same reasoning that was used to ban Kinder eggs in the US.
Yes i agree. It was so stupid. A karen probably complained 😂
Made of printed petition papers and music warning stickers 😂😁😂
Toy's R Us still sold questionable toys in the UK until they closed. They had a collectors/ adult section & I got Joker & Harley Quinn figures (expensive sort). Both are characters a younger child may not understand. But that's what parents are for. As a kid I didn't stand looking at knives in a supermarket I found soft toys or crafts. Just as with most dangerous items I couldn't have bought them if I was very young.
Thanks for the Teletubby bit as I knew there was a recall only didn't know what was said. Hadn't expected that, funny though.
Dam that ghostbusters toy can light a cigarette 🚬 who made it zippo?
Kenner 😏 lights up your action like never before
there's also 6 transformers that can do that too
All clever cigarette marketing.
Oh and Entertech guns. “The look, the feel, the sound so real, ENTERTECH”
Cause of removal? Everything the slogan said got kids shot and killed, criminals used them in crimes and it out LJN out of business.
It was referenced in movies like Airheads and Die Hard
Yeah i covered those in the last banned toys video 🤓 there’s actually quite a lot controversial water guns
@@EdsRetroGeekOut I’m new to your channel, I’ll have to check that out
Al Snows WWF figure was pulled from Wal-Mart because his mannequin head accessory was named Head.
Yeah that’s a weird story 🤯
Pretty sure it was because people complained it resembled a severed head.

This was the beginning of pussification, in the toy aisle. Back then it was over toys-- today its over words or thoughts...
Now they are trying to do away with boy and girls toy aisles 🙈🙉🙊
the funny thing is if that florida moms kids doctor prescribed aderall to her hyper active kid she would be literally giving that same thing to her kid but if its fda approved its alright but to a chemistry teacher there is a lot of irony there
I had the rollerblade Barbie shown in the video. When I was little I enjoyed the light spark it made when Barbie skated. I never knew it went on recall and I guess my mom didn’t either because it was never taken away. I had the Barbie until I grew out of my toy stage.
I actually remember a couple of those stories especially the Teletubbies
Dude ive been binge watching your videos today and im totally gonna give you a sub, really loving your content honestly
Thanks 🤓
When you mentioned the Austin Powers toyline, I thought you were going to mention how they changed the name of the "Fat Bastard" figure to "Fat Man"
I didn’t know that 🤣
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yeah, it's the figure where he's in the Scottish attire with bag pipes. It has his name on the bottom left corner of the card. eBay has one to check (tried to post the link but it got deleted here)
Super Soaker water guns were amazing. Perhaps that might be a good one to review. Those were the best water guns.
Great vid.
Thanks i spoke about a lot of the controversial ones in the previous banned episode 🤓 ua-cam.com/video/PKJPSRAv2u8/v-deo.html
I thought the Breaking Bad figures were selling the sad remains of everybody's favorite crystal warrior- Crystar!
Crystar lives!
Yeah now l can't sleep thanks krystar
I had that rollerblading barbie when I was a kid!! I think I still got it somewhere! Loved that barbie it was so cool!
Awesome 🤩🤘 did it really flicker and flash that much?
@@EdsRetroGeekOut definitely not that my like in the advert but it was a littlebit, it was soo cool!!
He needed to stay out of Florida Mom's territory. Haha!!
The spark toys were great fun, as a kid we used to pour aftershave or whatever flammable liquid we could find on the scalextrik track and do Back to the Future burnouts
🤓 nice
I remember the WWF wrestling figure of Al Snow being "controversial" due to him being packaged with a female mannequin head.
Indeed 🤓
That one, you'd think the manufacturer would figured out beforehand. I mean, when he was in the ring, he obviously has a mannequin head, but when you shrink both the wrestler and accessories down, and cast it all in the same plastic, the line between mannequin head and severed human head isn't quite as clear. haha
What does everybody want???
Growing up in the 80/90’s was awesome, truly the pinochle of the raddest toys, cartoons/toy commercials and sugary cereals. I still collect some “action figures” today but the really cool ones are practically hyper detailed mini statues like the McFarland DC line. Also in what other era let a child sleep with a talking, child molester/killer doll (Freddy Kruger)
Indeed 🤣
Barbie, Gi Joe, TMNT, Breaking Bad. One of these things is not like the others.
😏 is it barbie
What's in the purse Barbie 😂😂😂I'm Cry laughing (Was it Barbie) this channel is so killer dying laughing here 😂
The barbie skates are horrifying, just hearing the lighter flip noises make me cringe! 🤣 I had a Reptar from rugrats that sparked but the sparks were contained inside clear plastic for the flash. I have a motu figure i think might have used to do it but im not sure, hes not the best shape but I had to rescue him from that dusty corner in a antique store haha. I knew there was a pokemon recall but i dont remember hearing about it when it happened, I got the toys at the time but my parents never took them away. Then again, I havent seen them in storage, I hope they didnt! 🤣 Thanks for another great vid!!
Wait there was a reptar toy from rugrats 🤯🤯🤩🤩🤩
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yes!! :D It was a kids meal toy! Back then they were so much better quality than these days so i played with it forever. You could probs find them googling sparking Reptar Burger King! You roll it and inside its smouth sparks like fire breath
Man I love the classic Ninja Turtles series great video man
Tmnt all the way 🐢🍕
If Capt. Planet couldn't save the planet he'd burn it down!
I was 7 years old when Pokemon made pokeball's and I never put it over my nose and mouth.
I had that zartan toy that changed colour, and had the face mask. his vehicle could be disguised as a box of junk, too. hahaha.
I find it ridiculous that they ban Michelangelo's nunchucks in the UK for being violent, yet they're totally fine with saying Watership Down is perfectly decent for kids to watch.🤦🏼♀️
And don't get me started on the Animals of Farthing Wood!😳
Watership down was brutal 🥲
Worship the Wire😲
Dude this was really well done. Definitely an awesome channel and instant sub.
