I would call my Thundercats knock off line "Copy-Cats".
Fuck that’s clever
@@astropunch7708 Could also go with Dupli-kats. I just like the alliteration.
🤣👌 love it
Copy cats whoooooa!
@@badape3620 Xerox! fax! COPY CATS! WHOOOOA! hahaha
Knock off, knock off lines and general toy talk about particular toys are my favorite videos so thankfull to see more of them
Aw yeaah 🙌
I Love stuff like this so much lol. it's so great that Artists were able to make stuff like this even back in the day when it was SO MUCH HARDER. they didn't have the great sculpting waxes back then, especially outside of the big companies... and they *SURE* didn't have Zbrush, or 3D Printing like we sculptors are mega spoiled with today. but they STILL Managed to produce such great work!
Thank you so so much! I've been watching this series since it began, and I enjoy it so much! Very grateful to have two posted so close together :)
Thanks buddy 🤘
Ed, keep up the hard work. Your homework, research and editing in your videos continues to set you apart from the other toy collector garbage.
Thanks buddy 🤓
I remember seeing a rack of bootleg Panthro figures at Hills. Their faces made them all look like they were "really late for school" if you know what I mean.
Haha 🤣
Thundercats was and still is a very underestimated line.
Totally agree but it’s pretty known the name tough 😁
It's unreal how many knockoff lines there were for major toy lines at the time.
For sure and how quick they got made and popped em out
I remember seeing many many knock offs at Kmart as a kid in the 80s.
Hej that's my bedsheets in the video ❤️❤️❤️
I would like to get my hands on that smiling mumrah such a great sculpt on this figure
Best find ever over at Lazloo’s 😁🤘 indeed we must go to mexico and get more sculpts! … kom we gaan nog toys kopen!
Blunder cats got a good ring to it 😂
Yes!!!
Thundercats was one of my favorites that I would always ask for as a kid. Not knowing our family's financial situation (first generation in the U.S.), my parents did their best to make birthdays memorable. I think the KOs brings nostalgia because they were what I got as a kid. As others have already taken clever names, my LightningKats heroic figures would be Lyin-Oh, Cheatera, WhileHeCheat & WhyHeGotCaught, Pants-Thrown, Tiger Woods. Great video, looking forward for me. Thanks
These names are purfect 🤣
@@EdsRetroGeekOut gato be kitten me 😹
I have a big soft spot for bootleg toys. The weirder and goofier looking, the better. Transformers has a crazy amount of knock-offs. I know you covered some of them in a previous video, but there's a ton more.
There’s a ton indeed and with transformers they’re basically already a 2nd generation ko just called transformers 😅
Ah, I KNEW Sungold would be involved on one of those knock offs, what would be of our lives if it wasn't for Galaxy Warriors and their peers? LOL!
Indeed 🤣
@@EdsRetroGeekOut TBH, I find the Galaxy Warriors line more interesting than MOTU, I don't know why...
i always wanted the original LJN aline as a kid but i missed out due to being a couple years too old. Ashen Funko released their 5.5 Thundercats line, i went in with wave 1, and basically they restarted my collecting. They’re perfectly scaled to vintage a modern MOTU and do not look out of place and can make for some great fig photography. Imagine, Mumra wants to take Eternia, he teams with Skeletor, thus improving Skelly’s chances, but He-man teams with the T-cats, man at arms and Pamthro build some cool tanks and vehicles… so much god comes from it emotionally
I love those as well!
13:22; and thanks for citing Brazil, I remember the Glasslite toy company, they were GREAT back then before it came out of business some time later!
They had some premium toys 🤘
Gosh! what a freak parade! Love it Ed!
Thanks for watching 🤘
Love me some Thundercats!! They were definitely my first action figures I can remember playing with along with Super Powers
That’s awesome, i love the super powers line
I love your Toy History videos, they are really entertaining and didactic. Don't stop with your investigations, they are impressive.
Thanks buddy
Great video Ed. I would of called my bootleg line The Thunder from Downunder Cats!!! LOL
Epic name 😅 would they be kangaroocats?
I'm a huge fan of old knock off toys, I collect old knock off WWF and WCW wrestling action figures
Those have loads of great ko and bootlegs as well
The bedsheet is so rare. lol. Epic findings
Robots I think my mind said robocats but the bedsheet only says Robots 🤣 which makes it even funnier
Hi Ed! I always love the Classic Thundercats 80s Original Series, since I was a Teenager. I didn't know they already made Thundercats Knocked Off Toys in the Past. I saw and heard that Bootlegs Toys were most Sought after and Pretty expensive. Unless you're Lucky enough to find on Ebay and be able to afford it online.I'd enjoyed the Video. Thanks once again for more History of Toys. 🤩🤩🤩👍👍
It’s just odd that there wasn’t a prolific ko line attached to it 🤔 I mean even sectaurs got lord of insects but i’d think with the popularity someone would for sure try to copy it more
@@EdsRetroGeekOut You're right Ed! 🤜💥🤛
Dig your channel soo much ! Your music in it is Boss!! Gives me some exciting too watch at night . Rewatch your videos like 80s movies n songs they are classics! Have awesome weekend. Your live video was really rad . You’re a bright light man the universe. Making tacos n having some root beers . Thank you for sharing your knowledge and fun positive vibes for all of us .🐺🌮🌖. “ there is soo much beauty in this life . Hope you find the hidden treasure Ed!cheers !!
Fantastic Feral felines
Thank you so much 🙏 and dude that’s a great name 🤣🤘
I love Thundercats and they are the main part of my toy collection, seems to be very difficult to find the bootlegs in the UK but would definitely love to add them to my collection. Great video as are all your others, keep up the awesome work
The knock offs seem easier then the bootlegs to come by in europe for sure 🤓
I get why complete collectors would add the variants and bootlegs but where do eclectic collectors store all of them? Your room looks full Ed.😊
It’s a problem we face when we run outta space 😏⚡️
I love how they went from THUNDER CATS to SILVER HAWKS not LIGHTINING DOGS :P
Lightning dogs could work tough 😜
I was today years old when I realized I needed a Korean bootleg Lion-O in cargo pants
🤣🤣 yes!
ED IS #1 FOR ALL THE HARD WORK THAT GOES INTO HIS VIDS AND THE QUALITY AND OBVIOUS LOVE OF TOYS HE HAS
Thanks buddy
Thundercats is one of my all time favorite lines and the first one I collected (along with The Real Ghostbusters) growing up. One of the coolest random Thundercats collectibles I got from Mexico is a a figure of Homer Simpson as Lion-O and one as Mummra. They look ridiculous in all the best ways haha
They are so cool indeed 😁🙌 my buddy has them as well, a lot of those simpsons cross overs are done really well
Dude I just found your channel and have been watching your videos the whole day. Really awesome channel! I just started my 1988 TMNT collection and your videos made me even more excited!🤘
Welcome aboard!
@@EdsRetroGeekOut thank you so much! I just finished your USA tour. Epic adventure dude! 🤘
I have 4 channels I listen to/watch while I edit stuff on my ‘real’ channel.
This is one. Thanks.
Only one store had knock offs when I was a kid. It was a hardware store of all things.
Anyway I remember a wrestling series that had a wrestler with a liono head.
😁🙌 that’s epic!
I would call mine “Chunder-Cats” it would be the standard Thinder Cats team but after a heavy night out, all slightly hung over and being sick. Or a more modern take, Tinder Cats. Where they all want to swipe right with their claws!
🤣🤣 woah the backstory writes itself
While I don't collect knock offs, I have grown to respect them and the time period many of them represent. But I do remember having a few when I was young. Either it was a cheap pick up or it was something someone gave me as a gift that was fooled by the knock off trickery lol. I remember a couple knock off power rangers from Grandma. Awesome video Ed!
I had a ton of KO power rangers
Man, this was your best one yet. I love this. The one thing I loved about it especially was the McDonald's kind of deal were you showed the shield. I loved that because I didn't even know that thing existed. That shield thing that was a knockoff kind of toy. That was cool as s***
Thanks buddy 🤓
I would call my knockoff line Bob Sacamano toys and sell them in the park along with knockoff fur hats
🤣
Most of these knock offs look demonic! In fact, the artwork on those bedsheets is straight from hell and complete nightmare fuel. Dear Lord!
Demonic Cats ⚡️😏
🙀@@EdsRetroGeekOut
5:58 Thats a Retooling of a Games Workshop model/Citadel miniatures Warhammer Chaos Demon model from the 80s. The model was reused in the Board game HeroQuest and renamed to Gargoyle which used alot of already existing WarHammer miniatures models.
The wings and such did look familiar, the big creature in hero quest does look like it!
Very interesting video as always! Love learning about these different bootlegs
Thanks buddy
6:42 is like Thundercats kart racing
Yes a Tyco racing track 🤓
Ed. Great video, man! The '80s Thundercats is one of my favorite toy lines! Did you happen to see this new toy book coming out that's only about the vintage '80s Thundercats? I can't wait to get my copy as soon as it's available for sale! I am watching their website like a hawk!
I’ve seen the book pop up, definitly wanna get my hands on one too!
Definitely agree with you on those Brazil glass lite thunder ats in box, I would love to find one. Also, would love to find some of the Brazilian dinosaucers toys by glasslite also.
Dinosaucers also came in a pretty sweet deluxe box 🤤
Great video. Can tell you put a lot of work into it
Thanks 🙏
Another great and interesting episode! Your hard work shows! 👍🏼
Thank you
Just about to get watching. Thanks for the amazing content. Big collector here and LOVE all your videos!
Thanks buddy
Love learning about these!
Love this series of yours😄
Thank you
Damals deine Freund, der auch Ninja Turtles hatte allerdings 2-3 nicht originale.... Ich fand seine version von den Turtles immer sehr interessant weil sie einfach nicht so akurat und sauber wie alle anderen aussahen.
Tolles Video Eddi ❤👍
Epic
Great video Ed love Thundercats not has much like MOTU and TMNT but is a great series
It didn’t have as long of a time on the market as those ip’s who’s to know what they wanted to do with the brand or the toyline moving forward 🤓
Anther great episode thankyou so much!!! keep it up please
Thank you for watching 🙏
Excellent episode ed!!!!
Thank you ⚡️
Ed keep on making such great content
Thank you 🙏
I wish it was easier to get these cool knock offs.
It’s often just muffled away in a bargain bin
I was wondering what that General Frightor mold was when I saw it a few months ago. Going down the invisible warrior rabbit hole yielded some really amazing art for a bootleg line. Having individual art for each character plus a comic to boot is going above and beyond.
They really tried to make something out of it 😁
You know ed ive been following your channel for a while and I collect games and have a couple of action figures 1 or 2 and had most of those 80s and 90s toys and every time you put out a vid I start getting ichi and kinda want to start collecting toys
And I would call my bootleg line
(Los Gatos de la Luna) moon cats
They actualky had a whole set of charcters in the cartoon based on the moon as a logo and a lot of lunar inspired things. That would be a great name indeed 🤘
Nice video as always! There's quite some of the Brazilian Glasslite at the Brazilian main second-hand market website., but maybe very hard to find one in the box. I could get it for you next time I visit if you want - I'm Brazilian based in the Netherlands. It has glowing eyes too :D
I’m keeping an eye out 😜 but argentina is next on my list
The craziest thing is that the bootlegs keep being made to this day, you would think they would stop making them at some point, also your spanish pronunciation isn't perfect, but better than most
They’re still very popular and now there’s also translucent versions popping up in bootleg form 🤓
I would call them the Méxi-Cats 😂
I love history of toys❤❤❤❤😊
Thanks buddy
Just awesome channel mate
Thank you 🙏
@@EdsRetroGeekOut only watch the best while I’m in work
The licensed version of Kidworks Thundercats minis for Mexico had some different sculpts, most notably Lion-O, which looked more like the cartoon. But my favorites were the miniatures originally from Dunkin in Spain, I think.
There’s a whole micro verse, i was able to get the belt to clip them on but now on the lookout for more of the characters 😁
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Nice. Do you have any of the miniatures I mentioned? They're about 1.5" tall, and were included as premiums with Dunkin Panrico in Europe and Barcel chips in Mexico. Love those but they're just too expensive nowadays.
Do pro-collectors ever worry that by covering an obscure line, bootleg series or knock-offs that they're bringing attention to those items and putting them on the radar for the general collector population? Then magically the price of those items goes up because whereas before very people wanted them now they're in demand. And inadvertently the pro-collector could be making more competition for themselves as they try to find those toys.
This was the effect of shows like American Pickers and Storage Wars. Common people watching the show then got the idea to begin going out to find precious junk and try to flip it for profit. In the costume and replica prop community this has been happening since the invention of forums. When surplus military items are used for blasters or props people go out and look for surplus vendors to buy those items BUT as soon as it becomes known what was used to make the item by the general public the supply of the item begins to dry up and the prices quadruple.
I’d need to be a pro collector to answer it. It does open a lot of eyes and ears to provide more people to dig it up. Even if it is for profit then it will still depend on the market how many are being offered compared to who still wants it.
In case of the cosplay’s it’s touching multiple intrest markets. This could be the same for a toy that has a big following from another nature then the toy’s natural alure like a known actor that’s portraying it might have it’s own following making that one character wanted but none of the other line
I would crossover with MOTU and call it masters of Thundera where lion-o is dressed like He Man Panthro would look like Man at Arms Cheetara dressed like Teela. Tygra is a hard one to figure out.
Sweet, i wonder why rhey haven’t done that yet. Have you seen the mattel motu/tmnt crossover toys they’re doing now?
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yes but Mouse Jaw should have been called Mousetrap. Missed opportunity there.
@@nerdcraftercoley7305 that would have been awesome indeed 🤣
Knock Off! Knock Off! Knock Off Cats Hooooo! 😜😅
Im from México and also collect thundercats bootleg...
now they are wanted it is more difficult to get variants..
I still have some interesting pieces.
I loved seeing all the impressive sculpts over at my buddy
Lightning Lions? Cosmic Kitties?
😜 great names!
I have this collector shield. I wonder how much is worth?
Duuuude! That’s epic, with the logo’s on it?
Lightning feline
Awesom
Thunder dogs 🐕
That’s be great and then keep the cat features but just call it dogs 🤣⚡️
0:18
Wait! What ate those ninja toys line called???
I have those!!
Is it a knockoff?
It’s ko kinda, invisible ninja
please tell me you are getting ready for aprils fools, I hope to see some wacky stuff from ya :P
🤔 i don’t think I ever did anything for april’s fools
I say TRUE HOLY GRAILS :P Like "I see you" cabbage patch with night vision and internet access@@EdsRetroGeekOut
Anyone who knows the name of that ninja toyline from the intro?
It’s from invisible warriors but they repackaged them to planet hero as well
Excellent mini docu wish it was longer. I am pretty sure that other than MOTU there is no other toy line in the Universe that has more bootlegs N customs. Yes I am including Star Wars. Even 2day in 2024 as we speak there R people around the world making current Thundercats to their own art. N U did not cover the apparel market which a whole other genre. U outta do a Silverhawks version aka Halcones Galaticos which also has a huge bootleg market and R related to Tcats. Call my bootleg knocks of "THUND3RC@TZ" P.s. ALl U catz out there better get UR vintage n bootlegs now b4 the Live action movie blows these prices even higher.
Thunder craps
🤣🤣⚡️
