  • Food Pantry Haul & Meal video is here! The cost of living and the price of food has increased so much that many people use a food bank or food pantry to make ends meet. The food pantry is a great resource to obtain food and household supplies. There is no need to go hungry when there are great resources out there for everyone to use, if you qualify. I encourage you to apply to your local food pantry or food bank if you need help with groceries. It's also a great place to meet new people in the community. If you do not qualify for the food pantry or the food bank then please check out your local churches as that could be another option to get help.
Food Bank Hauls & Food Pantry Hauls Are Such A Blessing!
There is no shame in going to a Food Pantry, a Food Bank or a local church for help with groceries. The cost of food and the cost of living is high. If you have low-income, lower income or no income then the food pantry may be a great option for you! Inflation prices are rapidly increasing, so more people are using their community resources and programs than ever before. Using your local community resources to help offset the cost of food can help you stretch your paycheck or retirement funds further. Keep in mind that sometimes the food has gone bad. There are times I have received items from the food pantry that were spoiled. Sometimes the food is very out of date and not suitable. Please check the best by dates! If you receive spoiled items, then I'm sure it was an accident. Food banks and food pantries move a lot of inventory and there are times when the food has turned. They have a lot of food that comes through and they're not perfect. Volunteers help rotate and shelf products at the food pantry. Just keep your eye out for best by dates to make sure you are getting the best quality items you can find!
    "Frugal and ok with it"
    THE FRUGAL LIVING LIFESTYLE!
I live a Frugal Lifestyle. I shop sales and squirrel away supplies for winter. I am mindful to stock up on everyday items to save money in the long run so I can pay for daily living expenses like electricity. Every purchase I make is a financial investment in my future. It could be a bottle of water or a can of beans. Part of my frugal living lifestyle is using my local food pantry and shopping at thrift stores. Each organization has their own rules and if you qualify, you become a consumer to their program so please follow their rules to maintain a good relationship with your food pantry or food bank. I still have bills like everyone else and I budget according to my finances. Although I am considered financially poor or low-income, I do not feel poor. I eat well. I dress well. I have my basic needs met and I work to try to improve my life. Start where you are and work with what you've got!
Thank you for watching my food pantry haul video! It really means a lot to me to see everyone watching my videos. I enjoy making these videos to help others and show what is going on in the East Coast. I hope my meals inspire you to cook at home to save money. Look out for more videos in the future! And thank you to everyone that subscribed to my channel! It means so much to me! These are uncertain times, but you can be certain to plan, prepare and get stocked on essentials.

    Common Questions:
HOW TO GET FOOD BANK HELP?
Contact your local churches or you can ask the county. There is nothing wrong for wondering how to get food bank help. Each country has a social services department that can direct you to food pantry resources in your area.
WHAT FOOD DO YOU GET FROM A FOOD BANK?
All types! I get all types of food from the food bank from unknown brands to name brands. Each shopping trip is different. I also get a lot of seasonal vegetables to cook with. Some food pantries offer staple items like beans and lentils, other food banks may even offer organic food.
HOW DOES A FOOD PANTRY WORK?
Every Food Bank and Food Pantry has their own set of rules, so make sure to call and speak with staff that can guide you to apply. Some go by how much money you make (income guidelines).
FOOD PANTRY NEAR ME TO DROP OFF FOOD?
The best way to find a location near you is to contact your local churches, google search it or contact social services.
WHAT IS IN A FOOD PANTRY BOX?
    All types of food!
    ARE FOOD BANKS FREE?
    Yes most are free!
HOW TO QUALIFY FOR FOOD BANK?
They go by how much money you make in most cases. They also consider how many people are in your household. If you live alone, you can still apply and still get help. The first step is apply to see if you qualify.
    FOOD PANTRY EXAMPLES?

@FlavorsandTextures I agree, the gateleg table is convenient! It's a good "fit" for my home because it does not take up a lot of room and spreads out into a work table for me. I'm going to work on a sewing project soon to try to preserve a textile that needs help!

Sarah, I'm going to have to stop watching your videos. Why? I usually watch them at night and seeing all of your delicious food always makes me hungry!!! Your salads are a work of art. I wanted to tell you what I do with any trash that I think will start to smell before we take the garbage out. I put it in the freezer in a grocery store bag. I learned this from my mother. On the day that we take the trash out, I always remember to put the "frozen trash" in the outgoing garbage bag. I don't have to worry about stinky garbage!

I love your idea to freeze stinky trash, that is really smart to do! Thank you for sharing it with me.

Hi Sarah! 👋🏻 Great video and haul! Well, except for the beets. Haha. Never did acquire a taste for them and they are so healthy for you. My loss. You are so mean to show all the sweets at the pantry! 😅 Love your table! You still got a deal for something like that. Try baking soda in the juice bottle. Let it soak in hot water overnight. That might help or sitting it out in the sunshine works, too. You meet a lot of friendly dogs on your walks-how fun. Take care and I’ll be seeing you next time. 😀👋🏻

I could eat them all! I'll try the baking soda, thank you! The jar is a good jar, would hate to toss it. I love petting the fur babies on my walks, they all seem to enjoy a back scratch! @kannab100 Thank you so much, I try to make pretty meals! It helps me stay on track with my health goals. The past year has been a steady progression towards goals. I recently started doing cold water at the end of my shower to try to boost my immune system. That is a challenge for me! The cakes were so pretty at the food pantry. I get the smaller desserts so I don't eat a whole cake! I love the table and am happy to have it. Soon I'll be working on a sewing project and that extra room will help me get the project done.

@christophervogt7456 Hi Chris! I like turkey for Thanksgiving, too! I just don't know how I would cook it unless I did what you mentioned and get turkey thighs. I could cook a few in the air fryer. I got a small-ish air fryer but I think it would work! I want to cook more, it just can get complicated to make lots of dishes at once without a stove. I like 1-pot meals. Maybe some kind of turkey casserole in the InstantPot!

@christophervogt7456 Chris, this is a great time of year when cozy at-home cooking warms up the kitchen and the pace of life gets slower as the sun sets sooner! I've been visiting Habitat for Humanity more frequently looking at stoves. Everything I have seen is "family-sized" and I'm thinking travel size like an RV stove is going to be it for me. I'll find it one day and be able to cook more and bake!

one thing ive learned when putting away groceries orv leftovers is that square and rectangle packages containers take up less space than round plastic freezer bags work better once the air is deflated squeezed from them

    • @CareFreeLivingChannel
      @CareFreeLivingChannel  10 місяців тому +1

@samanthashaw8329 Yes, that's a good point about square and rectangular shaped containers, they do fit better in the mini-fridge. The plastic baggies have been very helpful to get the air out of salads. Sometimes the salad will freeze so I try to eat it up as quickly as I can. If I use the drink holder on the door and put snack size bags there, they stack pretty well. Thanks so much for watching!

if my salads and greens & lettuces cabbages freeze i make smoothies add to soups or spaghetti sauces even pestos
another thing we like is wilted lettuce salad and fried cabbage both of which tend ton start with bacon grease to wilt or fry the lettuce or cabbage then becomes part of the dressings
i try to use very little bacon grease and substitute some for olive oil@@CareFreeLivingChannel

    • @CareFreeLivingChannel
      @CareFreeLivingChannel  10 місяців тому

@samanthashaw8329 When I think of bacon grease I always think of biscuits and making it crispy! I like cabbage but I'll tell you I'm going to have to get a vent fan to cook it up! I don't think I've tried wilted lettuce, it's something I tend to pick out of my salads. I'll have to think about your idea, as long as it's not turned, it should be good to make something with. I've been thinking about appliance upgrades and I'd probably get the stove and the vent fan so I can have more options to prepare meals. With the holidays approaching, it makes me want a stove! I could bake!

Love those salads - I made a salad tonight. (The bowl salad I brought home today looked sad and I could only salvage about 1/4 of the lettuce but I had lettuce in the fridge to use up from last week. I added just a little cuke, tomato, and red onion that I already had plus all the toppings/dressing from the bowl salad.) My surprise score today was some jalapenos that I pickled and canned already. I am thinking I will enjoy them on nachos this winter. I usually don't get hot peppers but they had an excess that they were trying to get rid of today.
I really didn't need much this week but I did get a package of bacon, 1/2 dozen eggs, quart of milk and bread products which will all be useful to me this week. Also some assorted berries which I will use for smoothies....

@kathrynm9870 Your salad sounds great! Good job salvaging what you brought home with what you already had on hand. Oh that melatonin is supposed to be a pretty good brand. And I'm glad that you picked up the kids version. Because all kids versions are at least most of them. Are bad, have an adult version amount on it. A lot of people won't pick up the kids version of medication because they don't think adults can take it, but they can. It has a dosing on there, for adults. Okay on to the rest of the video. Oh that apple cider bread sounds good. Wow that's a very large portion of the canadian bacon that's a wonderful score. I heard that if you squeeze the citrus between the tongues that it helps with squeezing it because you have more pressure on it. Don't know if it actually works yet. Because I haven't had a reason to try it but am I work? Just remember to use the chicken in the door first because the door of the refrigerator is the warmest. Oh that dining room table is beautiful. Congratulations 🎉

@DisabledandPrepping I don't have tongs but have been looking for them at the thrift store! I like made in USA vintage kitchen items, I'll get a pair eventually and try it with the lemon, thank you! The Apple Cider Bread has been great, love the flavor. It's almost like a dessert. You're right about the melatonin, it does have an adults dosage of "Age 12 and up" listed. Plus for those sensitive to medicine, sometimes less is best. I think next time I get lots of chicken I will repackage it to avoid storing in the door. The table is a huge blessing and so glad to have it!

At our food pantry we can go once a month and sign a form we will not go to any other food banks. We mostly get rich deserts, cookies and cakes. I am diabetic and on special diets. It's very hard. You get healthy
food and veggies. Most meats are freezer burned and bread was green this month. Fruit is rare but a blessing when we get it. They don't give hygiene products. Toilet tissue is a big no and so is washing powder and body soap. Thanks for your show. I don't feel so alone. God bless. We must pray and hang on. Lol 😊

@della4386 I wish your food bank had more products than sweets for you to choose from. I know that's hard especially when managing special dietary needs. I wonder if there is a more abundant food pantry (or church?) that has more to offer? And you are not alone! I see many people at the food pantry that by appearance only, do not readily appear "in need". Who knows what an individual's circumstances are that led to using a food pantry, I never thought I'd be using my food pantry. But I'm glad I applied! Have you already looked into social services about applying for additional programs?

@@CareFreeLivingChannel Thank you for your concern. I guess La. Is different. Sos Serv. Stopped my stamps b/c
my husband works part time driving school bus.
We make less than 23,000 a year. I am 75 ret nurse. We keep our 23 yr old with autism and bipolar. You are so right, people don't look like they need help when they really need emergency help . Church's tell me to go to food bank ,they said they donate to the food bank.
Our food bank helps once a month but 2 small bags don't help. If my husband goes full time I loose my social security and Medicaid. It's like we try to get a head but they take something else away . I heard some places don't ask you to sign forms promising not to go to other places. Would they tell Jesus that? It is true that how we treat others it is the way we treat Jesus. I always gave myself to others. I was blessed to be a nurse and I don't understand why we can't
help each other. But God has and always been there for my family. God bless you.

@della4386 I know what you speak of. It's like earning too much to qualify but not earning enough to have needs met, it can feel like running in circles. I wonder if it's possible to cut back hours for your husband's work, if doing that could allow your household to qualify for social services programs. Autism and BiPolar are classified as disabilities that should qualify your child for certain benefits like "SSI". I think there is a program for parents who are caregivers to an adult child. There's a way through this. Thank you for dedicating your working years to serving others, that is a calling and something to be proud of. God Bless You!

@della4386 The Louisiana Soc Services website shows an article about NEW income guidelines due to inflation. Effective October 1st, the guidelines changed. It might be worth re-applying for the food benefit because of the recent change!

@@CareFreeLivingChannel Thank you so much. Good ideas. My husband is part time. We make around 23,000 a yr. That
Includes soc security and my son's SSI and husband's check. I am
reaching out for help with Autism Society to get son into school for GED. His goal is law school . We get 100 fs each month. The food bank gave a huge bag of candy, cup cakes, cake, donuts and chocolate chip muffins. One pack of chicken and one small pack of pork cut up. Is this how all food banks are? We lost our car so I can't go out of our parish to another food bank. Wish I had one like on your channel . I really am grateful it's just always so many sweets and no real food . The nice people that donate, please know that we have diabetes and stomach disorders.
      God bless all the people
that help. I loved being a nurse and received so much just being by my
      Patients. It's not about
money, the reward was when they smiled at me.
God is great and He will supply our needs .✝️

Bicarbonate soda is an odour neutraliser. Mix with water and soak. I'm not sure if you call it that in the US. Maybe it's called baking soda there.

@robyncolless6016 Yes, it's called baking soda where I am! I will give that a try, thank you. I want to re-use the glass jar because it's such a good jar and I'm sure I can store things long-term. Just have to remove the juice smell!

Why don't you have a larger fridge? It would be more economical and less wasteful to have a regular size fridge & freezer.

    • @CareFreeLivingChannel
      @CareFreeLivingChannel  10 місяців тому

@BeachBird99 Good question! When I moved in, I did not have the finances to purchase a standard size refrigerator. So I got what I could afford. The other day I looked at a beautiful fridge called SMEG but could not believe the prices! There are so many pretty appliances out there to choose from. I might stick with mini-fridge and just get two of them one day when it's time to upgrade.

it's too bad you don't live near me here in the Hampton Road area of Virginia, because someone near me is giving away a free fridge that is twice the size of your mini fridge, in great condition. Looks to be more of an apartment size. Smaller than mine like halfway between yours and mine. Mine is around 29 inches and it was free so we are enjoying that.

Thank you for thinking of me! I'm sure the little fridge will find a much needed home! It will be a blessing to just the right person. At first, I did not think I could make it with a mini-fridge, but it works out pretty well!
