If you add the flour to the grease in the pan and cook it for a couple of minutes then stir in some warmed milk slowly, you should get silky smooth gravy. Those breakfast bowls look delicious!
That is how I normally do it and it always clumps. I thought that was how you are supposed to do it so I don’t know what I am doing wrong. This gravy didn’t lump so….maybe I’ve found my new technique 😂
I agree, put the flour into the grease and cook it for a few minutes. It takes the uncooked flour taste out. Then slowly add the milk and whisk it up and let it thicken. But whatever works for you. LOVE breakfast for dinner!!! Nothing wrong with bacon grease, just in moderation. LOL
When I whisk flour and milk together and am afraid it will clump I pour it through a mesh strainer whisking until everything goes through smooth. Or if you realize you have flour clumps in your gravy just pour the gravy through a mesh strainer. Works every tine.
I like to spread my green beans out on a cookie sheet , drizzle with olive oil salt and pepper and roast in the oven . I love to add lemon, garlic and rosemary. It’s simple to prepare.
Sometimes we use flour and milk and put a couple oackages of the dryed beef packets from aldi that used to be around .69 cents. Pour it over bread and mashed potatoes. So good!
We like to use toasted sesame seed oil in our green beans. It has less sodium than bacon grease and adds an unexpected flavor. We also use that to sautee the long beans we are growing or Asian green beans. Everything looked good. Have a great weekend.
Great video. I was going to make breakfast for dinner tonight but after seeing how many pots etc I'm glad I didn't tonight as I'm unwell. Definitely another time
I love cutting the potatoes ahead and soaking in the fridge but even better you can stick the bowl in the microwave for like 3 minutes before draining the water and then it takes a lot of time off it cooking.also awesome to do some oil and butter for potatoes. Yum!
I just made a version of that sausage dish. Onion, peppers, sausage and garlic sautéed. Added in rice and stewed tomatoes with some herbs and it all simmered together until rice was cooked. Served with broccoli. One pot! Yours with beans looks great 😋
Kitchen/ pantry stuff is what I'm doing today! I have a big kitchen to-do list that has been piling up since I've been busy outside. I've been frantically trying to use up old stuff before new stuff comes in.
@amyrogers 1939 Bacon is expensive where I live too, but you might want to try to find packages of ends and pieces. I recently bought some for $7.89 for a 42 oz. package. There are some pieces very thick and some thin (lots of variation in appearance) but I buy them for the seasoning and the grease.
Like my green beans with vinegar added and cooked until soft & Leather-y. (That sounds like a Silence of the Lambs fava bean quote.) A little diced garlic is nice as well.
We do oil, salt and a pinch of sugar and then cook to leather consistency. I see a lot of people who just heat and eat and I'm like what!? Sometimes my sister will put them in the crockpot if we're doing a bunch. The longer the better to me.
I should do that with pinto beans, I buy a lot of baked/refried ect in cans. I could cook them "bland" and season them to whatever I'm using them for as I use them. Great idea!
Wow! some more great recipes to try! I made your pimento cheese spread that you shared in a few videos back and it was delicious! I don't like bread, so I had it on tomato slices. It was wonderful and so simple to make!
Thank you for the inspiration! I've been doing this over the past few weeks -- making dinners from what I had in the freezer and pantry instead of shopping. After the pantry clean-out, could you do a video on a pantry re-stock? Please and thank you!
I don't like frozen grean beans either. Thank you for the technique to make them better! You shouldn't have to explain yourself for using bacon grease. 😋
Don’t feel bad, I am notorious for picking the wrong size bowl, skillet, pan or container! We are a small family and thinking about having some hens for eggs. How many hens do you have and how many eggs do the produce in a week? Also how are those sweet baby goats doing?
Different breeds of chickens will produce differing amounts but you can expect to get 5-6 per hen per week. Normally when you buy chicks, you will see them being rated eggs per year, so the best layers will lay 300+ per year. I like to buy my chicks from valley farms hatchery, so you might could check their website. The goats are doing really good 😍😍😍
oh my i can almost smell those eggs and bacon! do you have a video/recipe for lazymans lasagna made with meat sauce and frozen cheese ravioli? if so will you let me know where to find it? tx
Hello Lori I am going to check out those chicken boots do they run true to size? I have been wearing my garden clogs to pull out a bunch of stumps and we have clay here in Tennessee and ugh is it messy. These meals all look great we make breakfast for dinner at least a couple times a month and i started using our bacon grease this year and the first time my family thought i had lost my mind but now they love eggs cooked in bacon grease I wish I had chickens for eggs but i am thankful eggs were down to $1.03 a dozen. I had lots of peppers and onions in my freezer from last summer i used the last of them the other day i hope they start producing in the garden soon so i can restock the freezer. Great meal ideas hope you have a great week and i look forward to see what meals you come up with for next week.
The boots are really comfy and they do a really good job so maybe you will be happy with them. I wear an 8.5 and ordered a 9. They are a perfect fit. I’m glad the price of eggs are down too. ❤️
@@homemadesimplewithlori Thank you for the info about the boots i wear an 8.5 as well so i will order me a 9 too. Thank you and have a great week Lori.
Girl, adding flour to cold milk - clumps for sure. Plus you don’t taste the flour taste if you add flour to the oil in the skillet then let it cook a bit - then add warm milk. See if this method doesn’t work for you.Breakfast bowls look scrumptious.

Yes u have to cook the flour

Thanks love pantry cooking thanks ❤😅

I took this challenge right after child number 3 left home. It’s been 5 months and I still haven’t gone through everything!
The hisea’s would make an excellent Father’s Day gift it sounds like!!

Great video! This a good reminder to eat down what you have been blessed to amass.

I will be doing this before we move so I have less food to pack.

@@homemadesimplewithlori Best start EVER! cuz we've been having perfect garden weather for once. I'm still trying to get the last things in.

Those chicken boots are super cute!
I think so too!
Bacon grease is good in green beans too, any beans...almost anything 😂
Oh yeah! I forgot! DUH!!! 😂
@@homemadesimplewithlori I rarely have bacon grease, it's so expensive, I'll use the bacon bits that are real bacon sometimes that's good too.
