Good option for cheap! I went with RAM Mount Tough Wedge Base (RAM-B-407U), the Plastic Double Socket Swivel Arm (RAP-B-200-2U) and the Apple MagSafe Adapter Ball (RAP-B-202-AP-MAGU) and slid into the passenger side console seat gap. I had the motorcycle ball mount on the grab handle over on the driver’s side, but that got taken over by a ScanGuage. I like the phone mount here because the cigarette power socket is close by so you don’t have a power cord running across the dash.
I have a 23 GX and am looking for a phone holder given the limited mounting point with a redesigned center console. I actually purchased this holder but returned it thinking the base adhesive wouldn't hold the weight over time and fall off or worse damage the silver color on the trim. Any concern for adhesive material (3M stuff?) last holding up or more importantly concerns about peeling off the silver trim. Any alternative phone holder you like, I am getting the 16 pro max soon. Thanks
I have this on my other car for quite a long time prior to installing it on my GX. The 3M tape works great and also you have to close up the arm. Don't extend the arm if you plan to choose the location i did because the weight of the phone can't hold unless the arm of the phone mount is close to the base of the phone mount. After doing that, it worked flawlessly. I plan to keep both phone mounts on both cars.
How are your videos so well timed??I was just looking for a phone mount solution that's minimally intrusive and not an eyesore and this is probably gonna be it. Thank you sir 🙏🏻
I relocate the cellphone holder to underneath my OEM radio instead of the passenger side. The rotating mechanism is meant to swivel left to right instead of up/down. The weight of an iphone Promax proves gravity wins all.
Awesome video as usual. Love it! Just wonder if you will have a video on changing ATF on GX. There are many discussions out there to debate if ATF needs to be changed on Toyota or Lexus. Thanks!!!!!
Yes i will be doing it soon. I'm not going to debate it. I'll just let you guys figure out if u want to do it or not as i am just going to walk you through the steps to do it. Keeping it simple and straightforward. No BS.
Love all your videos! You’re hilarious. Got the same gx460 year as you! Purchased this phone mount as soon as I saw your video. Unfortunately had to return. Idk if I just got a bad one but it couldn’t hold the weight of my iPhone 16pro max. Locking swivel mechanism just wasn’t strong enough to hold the phone up.
I solved that problem by not extending the arm. I kept the arm close to the base and it no longer swivels and holds the weight of my iphone promax like a champ.
Please be aware of the weight of your cellphone. Make note of how the arm spins and how the weight of your cellphone will affect it. The arm of the cellphone holder is very stiff but the rotating mechanism is not meant to swivel up and down. It is meant to swivel left to right. Keep that in mind. I ended up relocating the cellphone holder from the passenger side to underneath my oem radio after the video due to having a iphone promax.
With tinted cracked open windows and sunshade, your interior still had that level of heat to melt 3M tape? But at least you have no property tax and an advanced underground sewage system.
I don't like stick on phone holders. Eventually heat bakes them and they release. I saw a different GX UA-cam presenter who recommended a phone holder that is a magnet on the far left of the windshield that doesn't interfere with the wiper and the phone holder sticks to the window. Could you review one of those for us?
All my windows are tinted and i use a sunshade. My interior doesn't bake hot enough for 3M tape to dissolve. I proved this with my exterior wind deflectors (still going strong after all these years going thru carwashes). What i will not use are suction cups for dashcam mounts. Those do not hold up in heat very long. But trust me, 3M tape is pretty solid.
Thanks LongDongSilver, believe it or not, i can tell a lot about a person just by looking at their username. If you translate that to Vietnamese, Long means a woman's private parts. Dong means shut as in shut the door. When you translate it together along with the word silver in reference to the golden age, LongDongSilver means an Old Woman's private part that is no longer used.
@GXBOB more content ! Thanks GXBob for bringing us more gx content. This might even top your last phone holder video. Didn’t you do one on the cup holder insert that twists into the OEM cup holders ? You might want to revisit that and find us another cup holder - my insulated big drink bottles lift the whole cup holder out half the time . Again thanks for what you do for the gx community
@@GXBOB @GXBOB didn’t mean using cupholder space to hold phone - but a better actual cupholder that can hold large insulated “cup” containers . Those ones you reviewed b4 are better than OEM but mine lift out w the drink container often times . Thanks again for all the content
hmm I think the best one is the one you insert in the DVD holder (also magsafe). In that case you don't loose any visibility (passenger temp) and your phone is holding very well!
There are computer boards and ribbons inside that dvd assembly. It was meant to hold only less than an ounce of DVD or CD weight with bottom tray support. Over time, the weight of a 10-ounce cellphone with no roof support and the constant vibrations of daily driving can be a detriment to the inner workings of your radio assembly. It was never designed to hold that type of weight.
I attached a MagSafe charger to my phone holder (scosche free-flow magic mount, with extra magnet to make it more stronger) this way it charges my phone too!
yeah.....there is a downside to that though. You only want to charge your phone when you need to or else you'll shorten the life of the battery by charging it when it 75% or more charged. Thats why i keep the wired portion instead of using a charge pad cellphone mount. I thought about that already.
Like i said in some other comments, please choose the area of your liking carefully. Keep the spare 3M double sided tape because you'll end up choosing a different spot like me. lol.
Nah, i've seen a couple of really good ones that were vehicle-specific that i wouldn't mind installing. But each has their pros and cons. I just happen to like the simplicity and non intrusive design of this one.
