This was a benefit for the incomparable Merry Clayton, who was in a horrific car crash in 2014. Her injuries were life threatening, forcing doctors to amputate her legs from the knees down to save her life. Upon waking from anesthesia, she saw many doctors gathered around the foot of her hospital bed. They described the severity of her injuries, then broke the news that she’d lost both her lower legs. She was silent for a moment but then asked, “Is my voice okay?” They assured her it was, and that they took great care when intubating her so as not to damage her vocal cords. She smiled and said “Okay then, I’m gonna be alright”, and she softly sang herself to sleep. “Gimme Shelter” is the rock and roll masterpiece that is is….because of her. Rock On Merry! 💪🏽
OMG! Poor Mary!!😢❤
Whaat? Oh poor thing. ❤❤
Damn! What a strong soul to have made it through something like that!
You put the horror and bravery of all that so well. Thank you.
@@BlueBeeMCMLXI You’re most welcome. 🙂
Keith has no problem sharing the stage. It makes him so likable. It’s not all about him.
that’s because he truly loves making MUSIC with talented others
You're exactly right. Keef is about the music and songs not about Keef
@@bestbyte1 cause he's not that talented himself? Hahaha

It kind of makes you wonder what sort of a retard would comment on an item called KIETH RICHARD PLAYS GIMME SHELTER & then suggest Keith lacks talent? I can't ever get my head around absolute retardation.
GIMME SHELTER is totally spine tingling, otherworldly & in a class of it's own thanks to Kieth's deft yet staggering talent. I guess none of this can register in the mind of the average ping pong player. I'm sure that's because his ping pong playing sounds amazing to him.
Keith Richards is one of the very few people who could walk onto the world famous Apollo stage any damn time he wants.
WHICH ONE'S KEITH?
He will be allways wellcomed there!!!!
Damn Keith looks like a ghost from the past. But, he's still the coolest and most awesome Rock n' Roller of all time!
He's not leaving us anytime too soon.

Keith is the coolest, and very handsome! Keith rocks forever!!!! Love Keith Always and forever!!!! Greatest guitarist in the world!!!! 😊💚💙💖🎸🎶
@@janicerebura2610 I wouldn’t go that far there’s better guitar players then Keith richards
God Bless Keith Richards, may he live forever (and he just might)!
WysteriaGuitar haha that’s a very real possibility, let’s hope so!
Keith is the Godfather of cool.and one of the most famous face on the planet The whole world knows who Keith is .I think more then Mick Keith doesn't hide his face in public like Mick does
WysteriaGuitar If his wife has anything to do with it, he will. She's a Born Again Christian. One way or the other, she'll get Keef into those Pearly Gates...

Keith !
Best rhythm guitarist ever and one hell of a composer .
machia0705 Hendrix was a pretty great rhythm guitarist. He just doesn’t get as much credit as he does for lead.
@@bensagal-morris8072 Same with Carlos Santana- people love his solos but he played great backup too,
It`s a must have skill 4 every guitarplayer.Lol.
John Lennon's rhythm guitar was the backbone of early Beatles.
He made rhythm the lead. It’s what makes him so great.
Keith's so laid back cool, he's in another world, yet he's right on note, to a song he can play in his sleep with his eyes closed. He creates the sound as he plays it right in mid stream, which makes his playing full of life, even though he appears detached. Love him as one of my all time favourites. My wish was that he and George Harrison had played together, now that would've been something to have listened to.
Other world? I don’t understand he’s clean for so long believe 40 years, he’s IN the music always, he explains that writing lyrics is a constant thing, a true genius ❤🔥❤️🔥❤️
Keith is a wonderful man plain and simple.
@@adalouisepoons5788 I often had a drink or two with Keith in the late 80's and early 90's. Unlike most celebs he was completely normal. No pretending to be big and clever, just a bloody good bloke.
Completely unpretentious Keith having a great time! What a charmer!
Waddy Wachtel! One of the greatest stage musicians around. I remember him playing with Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor back in the 70's.
Waddy used to play a tiny dive called The Joint at Pico and Robertson in LA back in the early 2000's. I lived across the street and didn't even know until my brother who is a huge Stones fan, came to visit, saw the Joints ad in the paper and got all excited, we walked over and had a blast. My brother went out back and hung out with Waddy and the band a bit too!
Keith having a blast! What a tremendous performer and a Happy Man.
K
Too bad if you thought that they were supposed to entertain YOU. Or are you satisfied to breathe the same air and genuflect of their Highnesses. He pust his pants on one leg at a time.
Keith..... He IS the Stones. His riffs and rhythms are what made the Stones what they are, the kings of rock and roll.
Nope. Not quite. Mick Jagger is an amazing lyricist. Brown Sugar, all the songs - his lyrics and his lyrics were 50% of the equation. "Gold coast slave ships bound for cotton fields" - and on and on. Mick not only wrote all the lyrics save for Happy and Tumbling, he also contributed to the music big time. Without Mick there would be no words to the songs.
Brian Jones was and will always be the Stones.
Brian is far from being The Stones and anyone who believes that is fooling themselves. Mick and Keith wrote all the great Riffs and Lyrics to ALL of the greatest songs The Stones did. Brian contributed with his multi instrumentation to a few songs but the bands Golden Age was after he passed. I am definitely a Keith guy he is The Stones to me but Micks contribution to the band is immense and can't be understated. There would be no Stones without Mick or Keith
Ill agree on Keith, but I am biased as I don't like a majority of the stuff after Brian left. But Mick and Keith are the "Iconic" stones I guess!
We are all correct.. Keith was the rhythm and riff master, but Mick was there with those great lyrics and melodies. Together, they were one heck of a songwriting team...
As for Brian.. There will never be another like him. His contribution to that band was immense and magical. And after all, there would have been no Rolling Stones without Brian Jones.... I'd say that makes him pretty damn special... Cheers, to all us Stones fans!
Keith's immunity to every drug could maybe offer up a cure to covid.
If you pay attention to the lyrics of this song you understand he has a cure for death
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😮🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅
🤣
This man should have been dead many Year's ago but he's still here amazing glad to see he got strong and finally left all those drugs.
@@robertsmith-cj6gl I agree. Very powerful song!
I love this! Wow, can't believe I've never seen it before. Amazing, just amazing. That quick Keith vocals. Waddy, Lisa, Bernard, the whole gang. Pure awesomeness. Also, you can tell Keith is having such a great time. His prancing around. It's amazing. He's the man! The original 60's rebel. Now at his 70's. What a legend!

I so totally agree! AMAZING PERFORMANCE!!!! I LOVE KEITH FOREVER! GREATEST GUITARIST IN THE WORLD!!!! HIS MUSIC SPEAKS TO MY SOUL!!!! GREAT COMPOSER OF GREAT MUSIC!!!! KEITH ROCKS FOREVER!!!! 💚💙💖🎸🎶

So much respect for this guy. He can do what he wants and does.
It will be a truly horrible day when he goes.
What an amazing version of this classic song! Absolutely loved this. And you just gotta love the way Keith just makes his playing look so effortless. That’s just raw talent.

@flownet07 The genious living dead for ever i hope ,and love him .
I know it is mean what you are saying...but it is the truth...
Oh behave! Keith is the Man!
Keith remains the still-beating heart of the Stones. Rather improbably, to be truthful, but there you are. One day, this giant, ancient tree will fall, but let us admire its gnarled magnificence while we can.
Don't underrate Mick, He has pushed the group to keep performing. I'm pleased that their latest tour seems to show a reinvigorated Charlie Watts.
I love the way Keith relates to everything around him. seeing him in there with the singers just vibing...so natural. he's a performer but he's not performing. totally real.
Lisa, Bernard and Sarah, wow what a combo. Love this track and Keith is amazing!!
The coolest old man at the world !
Keith is the Godfather of cool and the most famous rock star on the planet And the most known face on the planet Nobody looks like Keith
Not cooler than Dylan, sorry
He's not old, he's just evolving.
Yes, yes, yes, and now without drugs
Much cooler than Dylan, but the Boz is right there also.
Great version!
"Song in honor of Merry Clayton".
With: "X-Pensive Winos, featuring guitarist Waddy Wachtel, keyboardist Ivan Neville, bassist Willie Weeks and drummer Steve Jordan (also the night's musical director), along with vocalists Sarah Dash (of LaBelle), and longtime Stones backup singers Lisa Fischer and Bernard Fowler".
Lisa Fischer has been (for 25 years) in Stones concerts far more than just a "backup singer": she has fabulously co~fronted, duet sang, danced & emoted with lead Mick Jagger.
Wow! When that one lady took the main mic, I wish I had a dollar for every goosebump she gave me! I'd be rich! Damn! That woman can sing!
That would be Lisa
I can't even begin to describe how incredible I think Keith is. He is, to me, the world's greatest guitarist. All the riffs he's come up with, and his amazing improvisational skills. He's got this absolutely amazing musical instinct. And yet he's so humble at the same time
I agree with you Tim, Keith is an Amazing, talented performer/musician.
Jeff--Keith is obviously very comfortable playing in front of any audience LIVE!
Tim Fisher Keith is the king of cool.
Tim Fisher and your crazy
You saw them in the early 70's ? Must have been with Mick Taylor.. those were amazing concerts, we know because they are on youtube.

2020 covid, we need a hero. Somebody call Keith!
Keith is one hell of a musician plays the hell out of the guitar and has written some of my favorite songs.
He's the fuckin best I've ever had the pleasure of seeing live ,and the stones are immortal
What a great combination Keith, Sara, Bernard, and WAddy.... And of course my favorite Lisa

Das ist schon ein ganz besonderes Schmankerl: weltbester Gitarrist total cool auf der Bühne, total relaxt, singt, spielt, fühlt sich wohl, wird umgarnt. Echt klasse!
This is what you look like after being in rock and roll & living the lifestyle all your life. His book is still fascinating to read. How he is still alive is beyond me. He has to be an alien right? So much incredible music and rock riffs thanks to the man.
Great to see Kieth having fun just being in the band, He is a master of his craft.
effortlessly blissful, and a small miracle he's still standing, probably the best rythym guitarist still playing good old rythym n blues.
Keith is one tough hombre renegade rebel outlaw and badass.

Lunga vita a Keith Richard e alla sua meravigliosa chitarra
Keef's face at 5:12
Take a good looks folks....there will never be another Keith Richards again ...and I'd like to say this guy has rocked my socks off for 50 years and ....he is still going. You in the future who read this...long after I am gone...I hope you have a Keith Richards, a Rolling Stones, a 1960's era, and experience the experience like we did. If not...create one or life will be very ..dull.
Lisa owns this great tune and Keith knows it and just let take it, God bless Keith, he does not care as long as it sounds great. Love to Lisa for making this 3 cord song over the top 😘😘😘 Love you Miss Lisa
What's great about this is that Keith gives zero fucks. No hair dye (McCartney, Jagger). No hair plugs (Elton). No Botox (Countless of his contemporaries). You think he doesn't realize those 73 year old fingers can't do what they did best in the 60's, 70's? He just loves to make music. If you don't like it, I don't think he cares.
Matthew Crich Elton wears a wig, they can't do that many plugs.
Not true. Keith used to (and maybe still does) dye his hair and he has other body mods ( teeth implants..etc)...but who gives a rats ass, I come for the music.
hahah Elton looks like an old housewife!
iggyover plastic surgery couldn't even ruin his looks. He did it all himself. A pub crawl with Keith would be a dream come true.
Matthew Crich i think ten years ago he was using hair dye ,but he just stopped to use it.
This one never gets old. "It's just a shot away......
Lisa Fischer is timeless her voice is still as beautiful as ever
agree.she is still great
Keith just knows his way around this so well. Effortlessly weaving in and out. Gives me chills of joy!
Keith Richards is a very difficult to decode guitarist. An alchemist or a magician that squeezes some great music from whatever he’s holding.
Keith plays with so much space he could apply for outline planning permission
Merry! You are so loved!
Keith, just amazing. he defied it all. everyone thought he would die off long ago, what with all that drug use and partying.Keith sounds great because his heart is in it.love his sound and the way he handles his guitar. a treasure of a man. wish him many more years.
done people don't understand they know this is raw unrehearsed
just having a good time
keep loves to play I believe that's what has kept him going all these years. all the stones don't need the money that's for sure love to perform know their legends and enjoying every minute of it. gotta love them
You're right.Until Darryl Jones came along ,the Stones were an all-British band.Great bass player! Here Keith is the only Englishman. With the expensive wino's,great American musicians. But when you're used to the English band,it might seem strange at first. And yes, they have not rehearsed much before this concert,'cause it's not a part of a tour.Just a tribute concert for Merry Clayton.
And ,by the way,I'm SO tired of everybody with a Brian Jones fixation.Brian might have started the Stones, right.Without him there might be the same people in other bands,or the same.Who REALLY kept them together, was Ian Stewart. And to everybody, who keeps putting down Ron Wood:He is the most versatile of the band.He can play every stringed instrument, that does not require a bow.(He was chosen for the Coming out of "retirement" of E. Clapton, because they could not think of anybody able to play Duane Allman's slide parts from the"Derek and the Dominoes -album)And yes, this will make me very much hated, but Duane was DEAD.Mister Clarke (among others) started playing bass, when they heard Wood on bass on the first two Jeff Beck group-albums.He's even played Mandolin on several records.Plus Pedal-Steel as well as any Nashville player.Every other guitarist (plus Keith have done their things for the band. But Brian could never(and never wanted to) write a song.Mick Taylor was great, but in the long run he did not fit the two guitar playing, that is the backbone of The Stones. And he's dead, too. So let's give them what they deserve, but Ronnie is the right man in the right band. And always was,in all of his bands.
I don't believe they didn't rehearse. Plus, these are cats who have played together for years.
This is slop.
I can't say what kept him going, but, as Ray Wylie Hubbard says, the way to be so dedicated as a musician is to not learn how to do anything else.
They don't need the money but they are yanking the teats on that cash cow for all they're worth, playing football stadiums where people pay outrageous prices go to watch them on TV.
Wow!!!! Nothing like a good dose of Keith!!!! Who doesn't love love Keith!!I'm crazy for The Stones and always have been!!!!
I knew they were the bet damn band in the world when I was 12 years of age. I feel the same way at 66 years! You'e got to give me Shelter!!!
Keith Richards is The Heartbeat when it comes to the Rolling Stones, without Keith The Stones can't Roll along!
Always loved Keith's guitar playing.
I love it, It's great to find raw stuff like this. Lovely tribute!!
Waddy Wachtel is a very under rated and very, very good guitarist. Keith is Keith....a treasure, but make no mistake, Waddy does the heavy lifting on this.
One of masterpiece in this world, i love this song so much ☝️
Here we are again. The song rings as true now as it did in '69. Shelter indeed.
Bernard Fowler is the first lead vocalist here. He and Lisa joined the Stones for the Steel Wheels tour in 1989.
Keith smokes away every Marlboro man that ever lived!
That was very heartwarming to have this concert for the incomparable Merry Clayton.Keith as always put his vibrant young personality on this performance
Absolutely brilliant! Touching tribute from KR to Merry Clayton & if the Stones ever need somebody else with a dodgy haircut they must have Waddy Wachtel ! good stuff all round!! oh & Bernard Fowler is brilliant !
There calling Keith the coolest guy on the planet I agree .who's cooler then Keith Since Keith had those 2 Beautiful Daughters he's became one stand up guy Always Smiling He is the Godfather of cool And the most famous rock star on the planet no doubt
It's awesome that Keith does this kind of benefit show for good causes! A good guy!
Waddy Wachtel and Keith together, what a gem.
Stunning Performance! Mind Blowing!
Lisa has still got it going on.
Wow what a voice!

What a life Keith’s having,dartford boys done well✌️
Is that Lisa Fisher on backups & more? God, I LOVE her! She and the Stones made magic together.
you go,Bernard!sing your heart out,bro!
Willman Musicman dude ruined it man..
What other rock band has had as close an association with black people than the Stones, both personally and professionally. The young Rolling Stones were embedded deeply of the Black American Blues and any of the boys would tell you so. They've played together onstage and in the studio for decades, and the Stones; entire catalog is a salute to the blues.
SPLENDID EVERYONE. Keef enjoying with his huge heart.
Millones de gracias por tan mágicos momentos. Vivan los Rolling Stones.

For sure - Keef is the coolest cat in the alley - Respect!!

This all good but...the moment that made the original Merry Clayton vocal so classic was when her voice cracked. It was a flaw that couldn't have happened at a better time in a song. One of the greatest rock songs ever recorded and made even more wonderful but that Clayton moment. And Keith(The Face of Rock & Roll)...no showboating, no fireworks, just calm, unaffected class.
(Too bad the Apollo microphones weren't working catching the vocals at 100% -- the clarity of the video is incredible.)
