I just thought Christopher Robin didn't exist in the KH universe because I expected Sora to be the stand in for him. The idea that C.R. left Pooh after growing up makes the story sound more sad.
Same, I always assumed Sora simply took up the space of Christopher Robin. That's a really depressing possibility. Especially considering that Merlin found the book makes it sound like it was abandoned. 😔
@@kairi4640 Could be worse, Christopher Robin's may have died in the first game when the worlds were being consumed by Darkness...at least if he's not a native of the Book World that is, it may be a little meta to think but if C.R. and Sora are both Visitors who entered the 100 Acre Woods via book... ...well that would be a kick in the head alright.👺
There’s already many stories about Christopher Robin growing old and moving on, even from Disney. The 2018 Christopher Robin movie from Disney is all about that. Great movie, recommend watching it.
It always felt like Winnie-the-Pooh was so much more than just a simple add on or a series of side quests. Sora always felt like he matured the most when he interacted the silly little bear. So I agree, Winnie-the-Pooh was definitely one of Sora's most important friends because he helped the keyblade wielder grow as a person.
As someone who was such a baby when I played KH1 and scared of all the heartless and boss fights, I found The Hundred Acre Wood world to be such a relief. It was a calm place where I could stop and smell the roses.
When you think about it, Sora has been through one hell of a traumatic life. At just 14 his entire life gets uprooted and is thrust into a war of sorts no one could be prepared for. Let alone a child.. Pooh Bear is have always described as the embodiment of childhood innocence. Winnie The Pooh is that fleeting innocence Sora lost so quickly but still needs even as a teenager He's a bastion of peace in an otherwise cruel and confusing world he now lives in
Now the both of them grown up, Sora became one of the best heroes and the savior of the worlds while Winnie the Pooh goes by a different name and become one the biggest dictators of the strongest nation. Villain arc.... ok I will leave now....
This video hit hard, my god. Winnie The Pooh I've always thought of as more of a simple Disney character but he definitely is much more than that and agree with every point very much.
Was I ever truly a child ? Or did I just pretend to be one ? That what's this video and comment section make me question. When I was a child, I tried to watch and play stuff that made me feel and was made for grown ups (for example, at the age of 3, I already played God of War). There was some children stuff, of course. But...I don't know, they seem to be set far and in between(ish), looking back now. I constantly craved for stimulation. Stimulation that most children's stuff just didn't provide. And truth be told, these days, I even hate having liked some of the already few children's stuff I had. It's a fact, I still enjoy Disney and some of its content, always have (but some of the original stories are simply better, like Alice's). But...I don't know, it feels little somehow. In comparison to the inner child others have, I feel as if mine is on some sort of life support. It's allowed to go around the hospital freely, but can not leave it. The fact I actively despise "Winnie the Pooh" ever since the first game must be proof of that.
Other than Pooh, I think another character that fills a similar role is Hercules. Another character that has interacted with Sora in his three mainline entrees. Sora learns a lot about being a fighter, sacrifice, love, loss, and so on from Hercules through all the stories he goes through in Olympus.
Hercules is the closest thing I think Sora ever has to a father figure in these games. Yen Sid is a mentor, sure, but there's 0 emotional connection between the two of them. And most other friendly people he meets are too young to fill that role.
I honestly think what you pointed out is one of the reasons why I believe the Disney worlds are still important to the story, for Sora's character sake, since he is quite literally a child learning from all the corny Disney movies
This hits me right in the feels cuz I can't help but consider the fact that as of KH4, for Pooh, Sora is basically dead/gone with no identifiable way of bringing him back.
winnie the pooh was also a core part of my childhood, especially tigger :) i LOVE the theory that the winnie the pooh world and story is a representation of sora's innocence. it's always hurts my heart to see sora grow up but that's inevitable. maybe sora can pass the book onto a younger character in the series, reassuring pooh he'll always be needed one way or another. but also being reminded that whatever is lost can also be found gets me too. :") great video key :)
thanks Leon yeah I really wanted to strike a cord for the people in here that maybe need a little reminder to look at their past and remember the good times Pooh represents that simple childhood wonder deep inside all of us that's simple and uncorrupted. thanks for watching man!
I'm not sure if it's just because Winnie the Pooh was an important part of my childhood, but when I first entered the 100 Acre Woods in Kingdom Hearts, I felt such an immense amount of joy. I found myself talking to Pooh as if I was in the story and getting excited whenever another character showed up. And that music brought such a strange sense of nostalgia that I've never felt before or since, I began tearing up several times. I found out that my mum sung that song to me as a lullaby as a baby, it really was an indescribable feeling. Edit: I wasn't particularly worried about finding all the treasure chests, but after finding out about the pages I spared no expense. This was now a top priority.
Damn, that film where Christopher Robin left the woods to go to school... i watched it so many times as a kid but never realised what actually happened, it hits so differently now 😭. I will always remember pooh as my childhood friend, in a time where making friends was impossible.
I couldn’t help but think that as the games went on that Sora’s other friends would keep roasting him for his supposed inadequacies despite the fact he literally keeps saving them. I get that friends can bust each other, but it feels like they, especially Donald, overdoes it.
I agree This world is the one I always look forward to because it feels like the most innocent and childlike (at least to me) like the safe happy dream that protects you from the nightmares (or heartless in the Kh context) while you sleep I hope they continue to have it in each game
I enjoy the nightmares once in a while. I find them fascinating study cases. I can not deny though the need of innocence for protection as well (especially when they're animatronics). I suppose I enjoy a balance of both, which is why "Alice in Wonderland" (OG version) is among my favorite stories. It has just the right amount of reality check and funny ridiculousness.
Realistically, his mother must be absolutely mentally and emotionally destroyed, presuming her (I assume) only son was completely missing and possibly dead for several years before he finally turned up. It's a bit of a missed opportunity by square and nomura that they NEVER adressed this. That they didn't address the sheer trauma this must have caused her and possibly his father (no confirmation on whether he still has one, of course.) It was such a weird decision on Square's part to have his mother call out to him like that only for that whole plotpoint to be dropped instantly. If they had made the decision to have sora be an orphan, this would have been more fitting, and it would make those friendships sora makes along the way feel all the more neccessary and deserved.
This made me very teary eyed. Pooh and Sora are two of my favorite fictional characters ever, and I've always enjoyed seeing them together in the games. And this video made me appreciate their friendship even more. Something that I also find interesting is that Sora and Pooh remind me a lot of Sora and Kairi ( and I know I'm not alone in thinking that ). Just like how Pooh wants Sora to always stay with him and doesn't want that to change, Kairi wants Sora ( and Riku as well ) to always stay with her because she doesn't want things to change. I believe Nomura said in an interview that Kairi is meant to represent the fear of growing up, change, and drifting apart from the people you love ( or at least, he said something along the lines of that ). And the line Pooh said to Sora when he returned in KH3 is the same one uses by Kairi at the end of KH2. This perspective on both pairings and their relationships made me appreciate them even more when I learned of this.
The Winnie the Pooh worlds in the kingdom hearts game have always had a special place in my heart, when you left it almost feel like leaving a friend, a person who genuinely cares for you
this made me remember hoe heartbroken i felt after kh3, i was really looking forward to enter the pooh world again, but at the sametime i was way more focused on the main plotline. im also way older than I was playing kh2 for fhe first time.....the weak connection is very real
Hundred Acre Woods is one of those worlds that I truly just cried into during the story of Kingdom Hearts. My mom's favorite childhood character is Pooh, and the fact that he will always be, along with the rest of the animals of the hundred acre woods, Sora's friend even what he has went through brings me to tears. I'll miss it after KH3.
You glossed over Chain of Memories but I think an important point to make there is that it's the only world where Sora can just take a break, which signifies how Sora views that world in his memories. The 100 Acre Woods has always been my favorite KH world, probably due to how I grew up with Pooh just like you. The search for Christopher Robin was my favorite movie for a long time so I was really excited it was represented in KH2.
I too really loved the Search for Christopher Robin And while yes I did gloss over Chain of Memories the only reason I did is because I felt I only had things to say that were similar KH1 but what you just said was very well put so thank you
What I always thought was whenever pages were returned, pooh and the crew, as their memories of each other came back. I was curious and wondered what if in the world of KH (many worlds), what if more pages are out there, lost memories that may never return. Anywho, I appreciate the video. Pooh clearly is different. A world within a world.
Yeah, it's interesting to me how your personal passion for pooh was a bridge to my love of KH hearts. It's kind of like Beast teleporting through willpower. Haha. I have a sibling who loves pooh bear, and I've grown to appreciate him more and more as time goes on. Also, I saw in your description. "Who else will I have Ice Cream with?" 358/2 is my favorite game. I wish they would make a legit HD version. Like 16 playable characters. Replayable missions up to 4 person co-op. All their weapons were unique like any other main character. Reduced to cutscenes. Curses.
I really do like your take. I disagree on one thing you said at the beginning where you said we don't see the strain on Sora. We see it plenty of times. He's down in Traverse Town when he first meets Donald and Goofy and Donald tells him "no frowning, no sad face" and Sora forces a big smile on his face that the two of them found absolutely hilarious. He's definitely down in Deep Jungle when he effectively abandons Donald and Goofy when he first arrives so he can look for Riku and Kairi. He definitely was down when they betrayed him. When you read Roxas' journal in 358/2 Days it is revealed that just about every time Roxas dreamed about one of Sora's memories it resulted in him waking up crying. Sora was going through a lot but was forcing himself to put on a happy face. Winnie the Pooh was not only a reprieve and a break for Sora, I think it also helped remind Sora what he's fighting for each and every game. The small moments where the biggest problems he and his friends were facing in the book were small and simple things, and as the games progressed the problems became bigger or more personal. In KH1, aside from meeting Pooh Bear he then meets Piglet and has to help Pooh get some honey. It's such a little problem but with Pooh's way of solving it with the balloon it reminded Sora of Destiny Islands, I think. They were making a raft and were gathering supplies in their own way, and it probably felt to Sora rather silly in comparison to the gummi ship now that he was actually in a rocket but it was still good times with good friends and that's exactly what the Hunny Tree was. Then there was Pooh getting stuck in Rabbit's door, helped largely by Sora who found the honey hidden in the rafters and seeing how much Rabbit's preparation is undone by one hungry bear but also how easily he forgives Pooh and wants to help him. Then there is just bouncing with Tigger and Roo and having fun simply for the sake of it. In KH2 we see Sora visibly upset but putting on a happy face when Pooh forgot him. One thing I think is severely overlooked in this game though is is that is also what happened to everyone else. Literally everyone forgot about Sora, Donald and Goofy while Namine was fixing his memory. Sure, they played it off as a joke in Hallow Bastion when they found out that the Final Fantasy crew forgot about him, or when Sora gave Kairi a hint during the Roxas prologue, but Pooh's whole story shows how being forgotten by close friends affected Sora and having one friend right there not remembering him clearly bothered Sora even if he put on a happy face for Pooh. KH3 unfortunately was super short in terms of story but I think mechanically it worked out as well. Sora got into cooking with Remy as a way to boost his stats and enjoy good food, which is really a simple pleasure in life, and just like how it boosts stats, taking the time to enjoy the simple things in life can have huge dividends in your overall day because there is less stress and less worries weighing you down. And the 100 Acre Wood in KH3 was actually one of the best places to gather standard ingredients for cooking via the minigames, as well as honey for those meals. Sora, like Christopher Robin, is growing up and has less time for play and simple things, but I think just like the movie Christopher Robin where an adult Christopher Robin relearned the innocence of childhood and how to sit and do nothing while having fun, how to play and have fun again, I think Sora in KH4 will be needing to take time to remember how to enjoy the small and simple things again after everything that happened in the Keyblade War and being stuck in Quadratum with the Master of Masters, that remembering a silly old bear will continue to help ground him.
All I know is 100 acre wood was not my favourite place to be, but over the years and over the replays of these games i've developed an appreciation for the 'vibe' of this world. The music, the asthetics (the colour of the sky lol), the characters etc. Is now a world I actually look forward to being apart of and spending time in when playing the games, rather than the attitude of it being a 'chore' to get through, or just tick off the completion list.. Although I also like to believe - the fairy tale book symbolism that's present in these 'stories' has some overlap with the book of prophecies being represented as a fundamental archetype of the events in the KH series as a whole being; in a way - it's own book of fairytales. At the very least, the missing page(s) and incomplete stories...
100 acre wood is pretty consistent within the KH realm. I hope KH4 has more ff of a feeling and more original worlds and characters. But on a shelf. In this new world/universe, Winnie the pooh. Transcending all dimensions. In a different way than sora. His only friend from the old universe. Also, here with him now.
I also love Winnie the Pooh! I was too poor to buy merch as a kid but I was constantly quoting it. This was cool. Also, I love the idea that Pooh still has someone to visit him after Christopher grows up. I think Toy Story made a lot of us sad about leaving our children's toys and books behind when we had less time as adults, and the idea that they're still out there making new friends is petty wholesome, ngl.
I love the Disney Winnie-the-Pooh franchise! I hope it continues to appear in the Kingdom Hearts series. I Love all the Characters such as Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, Roo, Gopher, Heffalump & Woozle. I'm glad that Heffalumps are now being used as real good creatures in the Disney animated Winnie-the-Pooh ever since Lumpy debuted. But I also wish that Woozles would start being used as real friendly creatures along with the Heffalumps. I think it'll only be fair if both Heffalumps and Woozles are loved and turn out to be real friendly creatures instead of being imaginary, scary, honey-stealing, nightmarish creatures. I hope Disney will make a Winnie-the-Pooh movie where it introduces a new friendly Woozle character. And maybe the new Woozle character could also appear in one of the future Kingdom Hearts games. I hope Disney makes more Winnie-the-Pooh movies and shows. Speaking of which, there's a new Disney show called Playdate with Winnie-the-Pooh in development. I always had loved Winnie-the-Pooh and I will always love Winnie-the-Pooh.
@@KeyofTime15 Did you know that DreamWorks is in the development of a Winnie-the-Pooh movie of its own? I would love to see it. I don't want to see the Blood and Honey Winnie-the-Pooh horror movie, because having Pooh & friends become killers and used for evil is stupid and very controversial. Pooh is supposed to be an innocent little stuffed animal. Even though people will now be able to use their own adaptations of Winnie-the-Pooh since it's entering public domain, I prefer the Disney version and the classic A. A. Milne version better.
Ironically KH is one of the things from my childhood I turn to as mentioned in your video, very lucky it’s packed with insight for the taking. Great video
So I have a theory/headcanon after watching this: What is 100 Acre Woods is a world that finds its way to kids who need freindship? Similar to how Traverse Town is a world for refugees of other worlds. If Christopher Robin DID exist in the KH universe, he would have eventually grown up and moved on. But later on the book ends up in the hands of Sora, who needs the freindship as you discussed. By the time KH3 rolls around, Sora has grown up to the point where he doesn't need it as much anymore. He's grown so much and is ready to move onto another chapter of his life. Maybe if Sora doesn't need the book anymore, it will find it's way to another kid in need of freindship... I personally don't think this is true as I don't think Christopher Robin would be in the KH universe anywhere and that Sora is the replacement, but it's a nice thought to have. Again, more of a headcanon if anything.
Even when I was a kid playing KH1 and KH2, I knew there was something special about Pooh and the 100 Acre Woods. I couldn't put it into words, but it just felt so... different. I know what it is now, and I agree completely with you. I think that the 100 Acre Woods was and is a bastion of peace and friendship in a world trying to tear Sora apart, even when he's got his own friends, and even as he continues to get older. After all, we all have at least a few things from childhood we think back on fondly, or maybe go back to revisit every so often, don't we? I like to think so.
100% growing up with Winnie the Pooh and playing kh1, the final dialogue always gets me to tear up 😢 Pooh is the inner childhood for everyone and saying goodbye to your childhood sucks 100 acre wood best world
Thank you youtube reccomendedations.ive never even played a kingdom hearts game yet i thought this video was heartfelt and well put together. Looking forward to seeing more from ya
This made me wonder if kh4 will have soras old friends turn against him, forcing him to fight the very people he loved. And pooh will be the one exception, where until the others who are so bitter and angry at sora for whatever happened inbetween the games, pooh will just be as happy as ever to see his good friend. That light could then help sora find a way to reunite with his friends and connect everyone's hearts once again
I know some people who hate the whole Winnie the Pooh storyline in the KH games and it's sad to me. I mean, I get it, if you didn't grow up with Pooh, his inclusion in the series can seem like a hinderence rather than an addition. But as someone who also loved this silly old bear as a child (and still do), I can't agree enough with your assessment of Pooh's value to Sora's character arc and how he and the Hundred Acre Wood gang help him grow as a youth into a young man.
I'm an absolute newcomer when it comes to KH, I haven't played any of the games, and my knowledge on them is basically tied to memes and videos like these, but I gotta say this was a very pleasent watch. I love how in-depth you go into these sorts of things, your narration is really nice and easy to follow along, and the editing in the video just makes me interested in what's going on and what's being talked about. Overall great work.
Ya know I never really thought about it like that, but you're kinda right, as someone who wasn't looking forward to playing the world on my first playthrough I was surprised how much I liked it I found the interactions endearing and liked the contrast between Sora and the 100-acre wood characters, (And I'm one of those weird people who like playing minigames so I had some fun with those) and I definitely want to see more like you do, also I can guarantee you freaked the f- out when you saw this world for the first time. (Also, yay I made it back from my vacation on Saturday)
Now 20 years later I feel that. Time stops for no one. However with the my 3 favorite franchises still going Avatar, Kingdom Hearts, and One Piece I feel amazing. My favorite stories are not yet done and at nearly 30 I still have that connection, they will all end one day as all stories do, but for right now I consider myself fortunate.
Such a good video. Love the connection Sora has with pooh and how it pulls at all of our childhoods who grew up with good old pooh bear and the 100 acre woods. I'm so glad he was at least there in kh3 even if its mostly the same minigame
Really enjoyed this video :) I feel like as I've gotten older I've become more sentimental about the Pooh segments in KH and your perspective on how he's a very important friend to Sora really hit hard
100 Acre Wood was always one of my favorite worlds and Soras friendship with Pooh has warmed my heart in each entry. I'm so happy to see someone talk about it. Especially regarding that exact scene in KH3 - relating to Soras feelings in that moment was definitely a bit of a punch in the gut. I'm glad that my love and appreciation for KH has grown stronger rather than weaker as I've gotten older. Same with the love for Pooh.
KH Disney world specific essays are a video essay genre that I hope actually becomes a video essay genre. To hell with nonsensical lore dissection, we've enough of that. This is a niche I'm down for. Serves as a stellar reminder to talk about 100 Acre Wood sometime actually. Good watch.
Maybe I can be the one to bring that genre more to the forefront! I've actually already started on a Traverse town one that's been on the back burner for a little bit
I think the part that nails this home the best, is that the final save point in the game of KH1 is 100 Acre Woods. Essentially the book is the childhood of whoever reads it.
Your not wrong in feeling this way about Pooh in kingdom hearts. I loved that Pooh's book is literally solace for Sora and how crazy his journey is. For a JRPG, having places or mini games in it is important to break up the gameplay. Most final fantasy games have some things/moments like this to help break up what would feel tiresome after a certain amount of hours out in a game like kingdom hearts. Tetsuya Nomura is a good story teller. (Although it feels unhinged at times it works right?)
Yesss I'm so glad you get it! I agree the mini games are nice break too, I'm playing FF9 rn and I've sunken in so many hours just from the Card Game Also yeah KH is unhinged but in the best way
Your Christopher Robin theory is excellent. I can't believe I'd never thought about "have you come to say goodbye too" like that. Also I almost thought you were going to suggest CR had had a hand in the world's destruction, and said goodbye to Pooh right before leaving him to fall to darkness on purpose or something like that lmao. Just by the timing of it all
I'm all for dark theories but yeah saying Christopher Robin destroyed the world would be too insane for me 😂 Thanks for checking it out! I'm really proud of this video
Im glad that someone else had this kinda thinking before me. I came across your video while seeing if anyone else made a video on this idea. Your Theory went further into details than even my own!
I'd never really thought about it like this, but having watched your video, I agree! The relationship that sora has with pooh is deeply symbolic, and seeing it change over the years gives me a sense of... bittersweetness. I wish soras inner life was explored more throughout the games as he must have some wild stuff goin on in that little head of his haha
Kingdom Hearts is to me what the Hundred Acre Woods are to Sora; a return to something familiar. A reprieve from the day-to-day. Returning to the Kingdom Hearts series is like reuniting with good friends.
Countertheory to KH being set after Christopher Robin left the 100 Acre Wood: KH1 and 2 visits happen before the events of Pooh's Heffalump Movie, which would explain Lumpy's absence prior to KH3. In the end credits of that film, C.R. is briefly seen visiting. So I assume this is just an alternate timeline.
I loved Winnie the Pooh ever since I was a little kid waking up on Saturday mornings to watch the cartoons, so I was happy that the Winnie the Pooh world didn’t have the heartless and darkness in it! It felt like a safe haven, a place to relax a bit when I was stuck on a boss or didn’t feel like moving forward in the main game, just like the show felt for me irl. It did always feel like there was a special place in Sora’s heart for Pooh, and their relationship is a good way of explaining that even if we get older and forget the things we loved, we can always find our way back to them. I’m glad you made this video-really happy to know that there other Winnie the Pooh fans who hold a special place in their hearts for that silly ol bear! ☺️
Yeah! Pooh is soooo importance to me, it's awful what the media is doing to him these days since he's public domain now..but to me I'll always have the fond memories of this silly old bear :)
Braw im in half way into your video of a masterpiece essay. And the way you said the fact that sora was ripped away from Whinnie the pooh's world and was back into the real world fighting heartless. Was some deep ass bars cuz I feel like we all have those moments sadly in life smh. Either we fighting our own heartless in our lives, or heartless when it comes to the outside world. There are some ppl that can be good but not all though sadly. Just saying and it hit hard af!!!!
As far as I know you're the first to bring that up about the video! I'm glad you noticed that little detail and understood it! Thanks for watching and the huge compliments 😤
What a good video. I was honestly certain I wasn't going to change my perspective of finding pooh and the visitations completely annoying, but this was a real eye opener. However, I'd be a liar if I said I didn't still find him just a little annoying.
When they where saying that Sora's connection to Pooh as grown weaker, I've immediatly went to the conclusion that's because he has grown up and that made me tear up a bit Glad to see I'm not the only one whi care for this to
1:05 Y’know, I’m pretty sure that even by the death of Xehanort he’s _still mentally 14 years old._ So to Sora, going through KH1, CoM, KH2, DDD and KH3 probably took like 3 months.
@@KeyofTime15 Oh he’s definitely matured, no question about it, but it has never really registered how _fast_ he has. I’m really looking forward to his character post-KH3 with him basically back to a KH1 Traverse Town situation.
He's Christopher Robin. Like the in universe Christopher Robin it's damn beautiful. Edit: for sure OG CR died during the events of Mal's invasion. As Merlin had the undestroyed book and the destroyed book on both sides of the conflict the pages themselves are exclusively in worlds with a member of the Council. Agrabah- Atlantica- Halloween Town- Monstro- (we are told in a scene Hook happened to be Riku's interstellar Captain) Monstro could have also swallowed a dead member's place as at least three are implied. Pongo and Perdita and whichever one of Roger and Anita that survived and invented advanced gummi weaponry against one of fallen implied members. In first reply. But what's the worst implication is that Merlin watched Christopher die in front of his face. And could do nothing to stop it. Hence why he mobilizes quickly whenever Sora needs him as Sora comes in at the age Christopher probably died at and the confirmed time dilation means he probably was brought back at his mid 20s age. Since Ienzo became a nobody as a child and was brought back as a young adult. His nobody being the reflection of his mental age but his actual self being even older than his nobody shows that he was and Christopher would have also been reassembled as a young adult. 😢 Somebody get Ewan McGregor for IV as the adult badass version of CR. 😂
1- Cruella existed. Lived. Killed. Died in traverse Town after trying to capture London and lucking into wonderland. RIP Roger (Anita clearly the inventor dude wrote music she invented weapons of mass destruction). 2. Horned King. 6 black cauldrons in front of six princesses. Absolutely a finding member of his legion of villains. 3. Evil Queen. Survived events of film in universe. Super powerful witch Snow White can be the first princess Riku takes it you lock Deep Jungle before Wonderland. RIP: Christopher Robin.
I always had a small, lingering hope kingdom hearts gets declared cannon to winnie the pooh lore, but i doubt it'l ever happen. Good video! Thanks for making it :D
My brother has never understood why I love 100 acre wood so much, and this video sums it up perfectly. Pooh is essential to Sora's understanding of himself as a child and as an Adult. the wood gave Sora a place to play, away from the eyes of those who expected so much from him, and allowed him to have that last connection to his childhood that had been forcfully taken from him on destiny islands. In KH2 Pooh is the missing link in Sora's story to truely allow him to heal from having his memory taken. By helping pooh, by being patient and loving, Sora learns to be patient and compassionate to himself for the hole in his memory where castle oblivion should be. Three upset me, but it upset me because it reminded me that Sora is growing up and so am I. I wish they'd had more of pooh, and I wish we'd seen Sora form a new relationship to him, maybe like a parent child thing, where sora mediates their games and simply finds peace in watching Pooh and his friends play. I don't know.
New paths for hearts to traverse: Sora gets a kid that reconnects him with Pooh and that lost childhood innocence. 😢 Just a future hypothesis of course lol. Though I would like it if it's Kairi that reconnects Sora with Pooh, I just feel like she's going to be pushed aside again. Hopefully that won't be the case and maybe Kairi will be our connection with Disney and Sora in Quadratum. But I have my doubts lol. I still like the hypothesis some kh fans have that Pooh is symbolic of Kairi, found that to be interesting. Also I was disappointed too in how kh 3 felt like it treated Pooh's world as a side note. Like a lot of things in kh 3, it felt more like Sora was detached from each world and just going through the vibes. Tbh though, it could be possible Nomura did this on purpose, showing Sora's detachment, possibly foreshadowing his future in kh.
I'm not sure if it'd make sense to bring back 100 Acre in KH4 since we're in an entirely different realm, but I wonder if this weakened connection may play a role in a future title. Maybe something to re-teach Sora about connections since the story is alluding to him being the child of prophecy and he's only recently figured out that he can literally connect to the hearts of others.
@@slothoverlord4388 You may have a point there, Pooh, Piglet, Tigger & Eeyore could go on an adventure to find Sora and come out of the Book. I bet it'll be great if Pooh, Piglet, Tigger & Eeyore meet Sora's friends which are Kairi, Riku, Roxas, Xion, Axel (Lea), Aqua, Terra, Ventus, Donald, Goofy & King Mickey. I have a feeling while Pooh, Piglet, Tigger & Eeyore are helping Sora's friends find him, Kairi, Riku and the others will have to protect them since Pooh and his friends aren't fighters.

I had the same experience as an infant with Winnie the Pooh. Falling seep every night to the story cassette tapes as well😅
Winnie the Pooh is not spread most important friend
I agree. The 100 Acre Wood is an escape for Sora from the pressures of destiny. He can be a child there.
Ariel is another he's close to though. He stays in Atlantica in KH2 because he likes to chill with her.
@@tvb5509 yeah and he sings my favourite song from the movie!😜
Stinks that Pooh got shafted in KH3 :/
There's a joke in there somewhere but I'm not gonna figure it out
Heck. He even got to escape the uncertain friendship of Donald and goody while in the book.
I think Vanitas should come back from the dead specifically to hang out with Pooh in Hundred Acre Wood with absolutely zero explanation.
I just thought Christopher Robin didn't exist in the KH universe because I expected Sora to be the stand in for him. The idea that C.R. left Pooh after growing up makes the story sound more sad.
Yeah...I know right? Really makes you feel for Pooh even more
Same, I always assumed Sora simply took up the space of Christopher Robin.
@@RallasterAsuremen all this theory makes me miss old square
There’s already many stories about Christopher Robin growing old and moving on, even from Disney. The 2018 Christopher Robin movie from Disney is all about that. Great movie, recommend watching it.
It always felt like Winnie-the-Pooh was so much more than just a simple add on or a series of side quests. Sora always felt like he matured the most when he interacted the silly little bear. So I agree, Winnie-the-Pooh was definitely one of Sora's most important friends because he helped the keyblade wielder grow as a person.
I think you mean ‘silly old bear?’ Regardless, I agree!
@@knightofarkronia9968 I know what I said
As someone who was such a baby when I played KH1 and scared of all the heartless and boss fights, I found The Hundred Acre Wood world to be such a relief. It was a calm place where I could stop and smell the roses.
It's a little slice of paradise. You could say it's Sora's safe haven, his destiny island away from home
When you think about it, Sora has been through one hell of a traumatic life. At just 14 his entire life gets uprooted and is thrust into a war of sorts no one could be prepared for. Let alone a child..
Pooh Bear is have always described as the embodiment of childhood innocence. Winnie The Pooh is that fleeting innocence Sora lost so quickly but still needs even as a teenager
He's a bastion of peace in an otherwise cruel and confusing world he now lives in
Now the both of them grown up, Sora became one of the best heroes and the savior of the worlds while Winnie the Pooh goes by a different name and become one the biggest dictators of the strongest nation.
Villain arc.... ok I will leave now....
@@TheHeavieKiwie wait 😅….you lost me at the end!😂
But that doesn’t mean Winnie the Pooh is spread important freind
@@Lizardgreininja47449 i don't know what you're trying to say but please don't spam the same comment everywhere. thank you
isn't Winnie a drug addict? well I guess
This video hit hard, my god. Winnie The Pooh I've always thought of as more of a simple Disney character but he definitely is much more than that and agree with every point very much.
Pooh is a way to give Sora some of that childhood he didn't get.
But just as we grow up, so is Sora.
But we still have the memories.
as a lifelong hardcore kingdom hearts and winnie the pooh fan you really put this together beautifully. loved it
Was I ever truly a child ?
Absolutely, you get it!
Hercules is the closest thing I think Sora ever has to a father figure in these games. Yen Sid is a mentor, sure, but there's 0 emotional connection between the two of them. And most other friendly people he meets are too young to fill that role.
And he learns about love from beast
I honestly think what you pointed out is one of the reasons why I believe the Disney worlds are still important to the story, for Sora's character sake, since he is quite literally a child learning from all the corny Disney movies
This hits me right in the feels cuz I can't help but consider the fact that as of KH4, for Pooh, Sora is basically dead/gone with no identifiable way of bringing him back.
Makes me wonder if we'll see Kairi visiting Pooh to look for more clues about bringing Sora back
Sora will find a way. He was the one who pulled himself together to save everyone else. His heart is strong.
winnie the pooh was also a core part of my childhood, especially tigger :)
i LOVE the theory that the winnie the pooh world and story is a representation of sora's innocence. it's always hurts my heart to see sora grow up but that's inevitable. maybe sora can pass the book onto a younger character in the series, reassuring pooh he'll always be needed one way or another.
but also being reminded that whatever is lost can also be found gets me too. :")
great video key :)
thanks Leon yeah I really wanted to strike a cord for the people in here that maybe need a little reminder to look at their past and remember the good times
Pooh represents that simple childhood wonder deep inside all of us that's simple and uncorrupted.
thanks for watching man!
Not even for a second did I think you were joking. As soon as I saw the title I said “yooooo someone sees it”
I love how kingdom hearts themes work for both young kids or older adults.
That's so wholesome 🤧
This puts ideas in my head that KH4 might take a Christopher Robin direction if pooh ever returns to the series. I’m not ready for that
I'd probably have a breakdown, my heart can't take it 😭
Damn, that film where Christopher Robin left the woods to go to school... i watched it so many times as a kid but never realised what actually happened, it hits so differently now 😭.
I will always remember pooh as my childhood friend, in a time where making friends was impossible.
Me too!!! Pooh has always been there and it makes me happy to hear other people had similar experiences with the character as me growing up!
Imagine being one of the 7 adults who grew up without a childhood just to dislike this video, sad...
Lol to those 7 adults...sorry you missed out
I wouldn't agree on "most important" for obvious reasons, but definitely more important than people realise at first, aye.
I couldn’t help but think that as the games went on that Sora’s other friends would keep roasting him for his supposed inadequacies despite the fact he literally keeps saving them.
I get that friends can bust each other, but it feels like they, especially Donald, overdoes it.
I agree
This world is the one I always look forward to because it feels like the most innocent and childlike (at least to me) like the safe happy dream that protects you from the nightmares (or heartless in the Kh context) while you sleep
I hope they continue to have it in each game
I enjoy the nightmares once in a while. I find them fascinating study cases.
I can not deny though the need of innocence for protection as well (especially when they're animatronics). I suppose I enjoy a balance of both, which is why "Alice in Wonderland" (OG version) is among my favorite stories. It has just the right amount of reality check and funny ridiculousness.
Sora also has A LOT to explain to his mother about why he NEVER WENT TO DINNER
So true lolll
Realistically, his mother must be absolutely mentally and emotionally destroyed, presuming her (I assume) only son was completely missing and possibly dead for several years before he finally turned up.
It's a bit of a missed opportunity by square and nomura that they NEVER adressed this. That they didn't address the sheer trauma this must have caused her and possibly his father (no confirmation on whether he still has one, of course.)
It was such a weird decision on Square's part to have his mother call out to him like that only for that whole plotpoint to be dropped instantly.
The Winnie the Pooh worlds in the kingdom hearts game have always had a special place in my heart, when you left it almost feel like leaving a friend, a person who genuinely cares for you
Pooh is the master of masters and will be wielding a keyblade as the secret boss of KH5
this made me remember hoe heartbroken i felt after kh3, i was really looking forward to enter the pooh world again, but at the sametime i was way more focused on the main plotline. im also way older than I was playing kh2 for fhe first time.....the weak connection is very real
I too really loved the Search for Christopher Robin
And while yes I did gloss over Chain of Memories the only reason I did is because I felt I only had things to say that were similar KH1 but what you just said was very well put so thank you
That part about growing up, having less time to do the things you love, hit a bit too close to home. Almost making me tear up.
I'm glad that people are still watching this at 3am and feeling it touch their hearts a little
@@KeyofTime15 Well, it's about 10 AM where I live but it doesn't make the video any less good.
Also, this video brought me to your channel, so keep up the interesting good work, haha.
Time to catch up.
Im happy you appreciate how pooh is just built different
He's a silly ol bear but he means a lot to me and to Sora as well!
"Who else will I have Ice Cream with?"
358/2 is my favorite game.
Pooh's memories of his friends needing to be restored does kinda echo Sora's own memory loss during and after COM.
I love Winnie the Pooh as well! I used to watch all of the movies all the time! :)
Thanks for watching the video, it means a lot!
Sora probably will meet Christopher Robin or the the entire Robin family like the live action movie.
This was unironically my favourite part of playing Kingdom Hearts 1.
I say it now, Pooh will be the Key to get Sora back.
That would be interesting!
Oooo great idea 😊
Yea Winnie the Pooh was a big part of my infancy and will always hold a special place in my heart as well
@@KeyofTime15 Did you know that DreamWorks is in the development of a Winnie-the-Pooh movie of its own?
I really like this theory!
This is the kind of friendship that Pooh needed after Christopher left.
Yes.
Kingdom Hearts IV should/must have Christopher Robin featured, it would be the absolutely best way to reconnect with Pooh.
I appreciate that! Hope you get the chance to play the series someday!
Who wants to bet that the Hundred Acres Woods will be a plot point in bringing Sora back in KH4?
This made me wonder if kh4 will have soras old friends turn against him, forcing him to fight the very people he loved. And pooh will be the one exception, where until the others who are so bitter and angry at sora for whatever happened inbetween the games, pooh will just be as happy as ever to see his good friend. That light could then help sora find a way to reunite with his friends and connect everyone's hearts once again
Why would his old friends turn against him though?
I know some people who hate the whole Winnie the Pooh storyline in the KH games and it's sad to me. I mean, I get it, if you didn't grow up with Pooh, his inclusion in the series can seem like a hinderence rather than an addition. But as someone who also loved this silly old bear as a child (and still do), I can't agree enough with your assessment of Pooh's value to Sora's character arc and how he and the Hundred Acre Wood gang help him grow as a youth into a young man.
In Chain Of Memories, Pooh and Sora call each other by name without formally introducing themselves this is the only time in the game this happens
Overall great work.
..."maybe he's right!"
Thanks so much for checking it out and helping the editor in any way you can! welcome to the fandom (if you're getting into it)
Ya know I never really thought about it like that, but you're kinda right, as someone who wasn't looking forward to playing the world on my first playthrough I was surprised how much I liked it I found the interactions endearing and liked the contrast between Sora and the 100-acre wood characters, (And I'm one of those weird people who like playing minigames so I had some fun with those) and I definitely want to see more like you do, also I can guarantee you freaked the f- out when you saw this world for the first time. (Also, yay I made it back from my vacation on Saturday)
Sweeeettt hope you enjoyed your vacation!
Who wouldn't be friends with Pooh truly is heartless. That's like chick shredding.
Nice video man, made me shed manly tears
A nice video essay on the friendship of Sora and Winnie-the-Pooh.

Sora needs to see Tron again
Now 20 years later I feel that. Time stops for no one. However with the my 3 favorite franchises still going Avatar, Kingdom Hearts, and One Piece I feel amazing. My favorite stories are not yet done and at nearly 30 I still have that connection, they will all end one day as all stories do, but for right now I consider myself fortunate.
I like all of those as well! I can relate to this very much
Such a good video. Love the connection Sora has with pooh and how it pulls at all of our childhoods who grew up with good old pooh bear and the 100 acre woods. I'm so glad he was at least there in kh3 even if its mostly the same minigame
Wrote this before finishing the video. mans hitting me in the soft spot with the ending
Thanks for watching Taylor :)
Really enjoyed this video :) I feel like as I've gotten older I've become more sentimental about the Pooh segments in KH and your perspective on how he's a very important friend to Sora really hit hard
Thank you sooo much! I'm glad my message was conveyed well and this is such a nice comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
I hate you for making me tear up about this. I gotta go find my Winnie the Pooh stuff now ☺️
If destiny island ever becomes a hub world again the book should finally be in sora's house instead of merlin's
Ohh!! That would be awesome!
I really love this video. You have a wonderful perspective!
Thank you so much!
Really unique perspective that I had not personally heard before! Thanks Key. ♥️
thank you!
Legit I thought the same even as a kid I felt like his the only true simple honest friend and since he was a kid he was the best fit for young sora
100 Acre Woods is a safe haven 🥰
I wasn't expecting to nearly cry watching this...
I apologize to you and your tear ducts
I agree the mini games are nice break too, I'm playing FF9 rn and I've sunken in so many hours just from the Card Game
Also yeah KH is unhinged but in the best way
Just chillin and hang out while riding the skateboard in KH2 as Roxas and then later as Sora just because.
This video has me nodding my head and saying, "yep, I agree" a lot. Subbed
Appreciate you 👍
Your Christopher Robin theory is excellent. I can't believe I'd never thought about "have you come to say goodbye too" like that. Also I almost thought you were going to suggest CR had had a hand in the world's destruction, and said goodbye to Pooh right before leaving him to fall to darkness on purpose or something like that lmao. Just by the timing of it all
I'm all for dark theories but yeah saying Christopher Robin destroyed the world would be too insane for me 😂
Thanks for checking it out! I'm really proud of this video
Dude, do you want to see grown men cry? Because this is how you make grown men cry.
It's okay, I'm crying with you all lol
Im glad that someone else had this kinda thinking before me. I came across your video while seeing if anyone else made a video on this idea. Your Theory went further into details than even my own!
Thank you! I'm very proud of it
That sccene where Sora and Pooh sit on the tree and watch the moon while Pooh tells him how he doesn't want him to go always warms my heart
Isn't his arc's point that he represses those thought as much as possible so no one can see them ?
Kingdom Hearts is to me what the Hundred Acre Woods are to Sora; a return to something familiar. A reprieve from the day-to-day. Returning to the Kingdom Hearts series is like reuniting with good friends.
Absolutely agree :)
Some of the mini games might be a tad frustrating I agree hahah
great video, since I was a child I felt like pooh greeted me that way since christopher had left ;(
For real, he's a special little guy. Thanks for watching!
this made me want to reach out to an old but beloved friend and see how they're doing ;-;
Update!! They immediately responded and it feels like old times :')
That's so great!! I'm happy for you!
My fave world in KH
I know right? 😭
@@KeyofTime15 i commented this before I watched your video earlier
While watching it, I was 😭
Hope to see more content from you
When they where saying that Sora's connection to Pooh as grown weaker, I've immediatly went to the conclusion that's because he has grown up and that made me tear up a bit
Glad to see I'm not the only one whi care for this to
This was a really sweet video. As a huge Milne fan, I liked thinking about Pooh and his relationship with Sora’s childhood.
The way they were used in KH3 still hurts
I always saw the mega elixir as a pot of honey
1:05 Y’know, I’m pretty sure that even by the death of Xehanort he’s _still mentally 14 years old._
So to Sora, going through KH1, CoM, KH2, DDD and KH3 probably took like 3 months.
Y'know what, that kind of makes sense but I also think he's definitely matured a bit. Still! I like your theory too
@@KeyofTime15 Oh he’s definitely matured, no question about it, but it has never really registered how _fast_ he has.
Agrabah-
Atlantica-
Halloween Town-
Monstro- (we are told in a scene Hook happened to be Riku's interstellar Captain) Monstro could have also swallowed a dead member's place as at least three are implied.
Somebody get Ewan McGregor for IV as the adult badass version of CR.
I’m literally tearing up
I always had a small, lingering hope kingdom hearts gets declared cannon to winnie the pooh lore, but i doubt it'l ever happen. Good video! Thanks for making it :D
Maybe someday! I mean, Kingdom Hearts is already canon to toy story sooo
Have never clicked on a video faster. I agree with your premise so fucking hard.
Happy you agree!
love this. this makes me want a real stuffed animal pooh like from christopher robin to show up in kh4
Same here
My brother has never understood why I love 100 acre wood so much, and this video sums it up perfectly.
Poohs grand adventure is the best Pooh movie
I got the sense the weak connection was due to what happened in 3D with his almost becoming a vessel for Xehanort moment 😅 but I could be wrong…..
Who knows, maybe they'll go the Christopher Robin route and find a way to have Pooh leave the Hundred Acre Wood in search of Sora?
@Nick Library what if instead of pooh forgetting sora, it was the other way. Much like the movie where C.R did not remember pooh for a while
@@slothoverlord4388 oooo that’s a awesome idea actually 😊
