Thank you so much for your skating tips. You're so good at explaining the kinesthetics of things while making it fun. Also, thank you for introducing us to your uncle. He seems like a total low-key badass!
I'm practicing off skates in my flat, I'm really hoping that my downstairs neighbours don't hear my loud landings! Thank you so much for all the joy, positivity and good advice!
I’m 42, picked up skating again 6 years ago after a 16 year NON-Skating life and I missed it SO much. Your videos spinning videos are STELLAR and I’m so confident in my spins now. You are so motivating and I WILL LEARN THIS JUMP!🛼🛼 Thanks for your help (wish your rink was in Virginia!)
So that is your uncle! 89 and he still skates! I am going to be using him as an example to all of my peers that have quit skating because they think that they are too old. He seems like a great guy too. I haven't done that waltz jump in awhile. I have got to do it again,,,,,,,if the rink ever opens back up. I am really getting anxious to skate again at the rink again!!
He skates every single day. I believe the secret really is never to stop moving your body. The minute we really sit down and become stagnant is when we age poorly.
Hello, I'm writing from Poland, in my country rollerskates are not popular at all so I'm watching videos from US to learn how to skate. I love your channel, I'm twenty six and i never roller skate before. Because of your films I don't loose faith in me rollerskating and I keep practising. I love your energy, you're such an excellent teacher, thank you for your work. Best wishes!
Dirty I've been skating for 9 months but my skill are way aged thanks to you and the hours and hours I've put in. I absolutely cannot breath life without skating anymore. People ask " how do you do that?!" And I ALWAYS tell them about you. Always. I just learned backwards dips yesterday after watching your backwards lunge video on the topic. Took about three hours. Thank you!!!
Im not a beginner skater but every time i skate i get tons of people asking me how to do everything lol. Watching your vids has helped me in explaining things to newer skaters because its a bit tough sometimes especially being that im self taught. Love your vids ❤
Deborah! I’ve figure skated on ice/quads for years, manage a rink, seen tons of pro coaches - you are by far the best at explaining with your own cute spin on things (plus love a lefty sistah)! Now following you 💕. Love from Boston!
Oh I love your videos - this one is so fabulous. Thanks for keeping us all entertained and also for the amazing tuition. One day I'm gonna come from the UK to California to skate at all these amazing places.
I wanna thank you for all of your instructions!!! Omg 😲 i swear you are hilarious!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Plus super informative!!! I wanna be like you when i skate up!!!
Oh my God finally a teacher who also is a leftie!! I am a recreational figure skater looking to transition to roller skates for summers (inlines scare me, and I worry would undo my ice skating progress since they'er so similar when I get back to rink in winter so roller skates seem like the best of both words I guess?) and I am so excited I won't have to do the mental gymnastics to reverse the directions of spins and jumps when learning from you Deb! Getting my roller skates today. Greetings from Poland!
Omg!!! Just loving you! Found you today and subscribed ! I skated religiously as a child every Friday and sat night! I bought a pair of roller derby urethane at skirts authority about 6 years ago. They were not very expensive. I’m hoping they are sufficient for indoor as dance skates
I have learned so much from you! I think I’ve watched/rewatched your videos every day for the past 4 weeks, they’re so helpful. Thank you from Washington
@@Dirtydeborahharry So far, I can do it "on land" without pain! :) However, I may have attempted it off-skates one time too many today. Knee decided to go one way while I was going the other just walking into the kitchen. Oops! LOL
You inspire me to keep pushing. Learn a lot watching your videos, thank you so much for the incredible work you do by making rollerskating practice and techniques easier. Wish you a lot more success.
Just came here to say you are so awesome and make it look soooo easy! Hahaha! I’m obsessed with watching these tutorials and I have found a tennis court to practice in since that’s what’s available to me :)
Thank you so much for this video! This has been so helpful! My biggest challenge on the spin entry is translating the forward momentum into the spinning momentum - going from that forward outside edge, into the forward outside 3-turn and getting the “hook” up on the toe-stop as the transition into the backwards inside edge of the spin. Everything wants to “travel” and falling out of the spin instead of staying centered on the spin.
Just wanted to say how much I love your tutorials they are so so helpful!! I’m also a lefty and I sometimes find other peoples videos hard to follow but yours just make so much sense!💕 I’m from the UK but once covid is over I so wanna come to California and learn from you! 😇

Wow I used to go skate at Skate Ranch, it was on Main St. So many happy and memorable times. I still remember what the inside looked like and the awesome music playing loud back then. I must of been about 10 yrs old at the time.☺️
Okay, so your uncle is so so cute. He just convinced me that I should have never given up skating. You are also flawless in your presentation and education of this timeless activity called skating. Will be investing in those new skates as soon as I leave this comment. Of course I subscribed, lol.
Always! LOL! Truth is ... I am not left-handed ... I just skate that way. Now my dad spun right-handed on skates but jumped left-handed soooo ... I might have picked it up from him.
Day one and I feel like I nailed it thanks to this video. I love you so much. Please don’t tell my coach though!!! I’ve been cheating on her with your videos.
Watching this a year later and I'm glade to see you went from 50k to 225k!!! Yay!! Also I love everything you stand for ! I was practicing toe spins the other day and my toe stop fell off and a fell 🤣 oops
Amazing Video! Gonna have to try this one. I never really gotten into jumps much so will be nice to try this. What a treat at the end huh with your uncle. So blessed, he looks amazing!! I want all his secrets! lol That was so cool and I could feel your excitement for him through the video. Would be amazing someday to come skate with you . Mad Love
So will My toestop be the only point of contact with the floor? I was a figure skating coach years ago but I’m having a super hard time understanding how to spin on quads. Every time I get stuck on something you are who I turn to for help! Love all your videos❤️❤️❤️
Happy birthday to your uncle! My dad is in his 80s, too. Wishing your family and our communities good health. Just ordered my first quad skates. Coming from an inline background. Curious to see how quads will compare. I need to work more on my front-back transitions and outside edges. I admit: my mohawks need work. I can do a toe roll or maybe heel roll around a curve - at least somewhat. Hoping to get into artistic skating eventually, with practice - and as necessary, the right skates. = ) Just out of curiosity, what types of quad completes work best for outdoor artistic skating - say, on concrete, asphalt and the like? As in, plate length, wheel type and size? Stuff like that. And what about aggressive quads?
Just a side note about doing waltz jumps with the left arm in front/right in back vs starting with both arms in back, usually skaters who will move on to the axel will start the waltz with arm in front/back to prep for the axel.
Hi Deborah. I am an older skater and used to do a nice waltz and toe loop jump, but my balance is no what it used to be. Do you have any suggestions to help me get back in to some simple jumps and be able to finish them nicely (arms extended and back toe pointed)? Thank you, Dan
If you have the toe stop with the screw through the middle, this will be very difficult. If your toe stop is an adjustable toe stop made of rubber will be just fine.
Dirty School of Skate I have sure grip carrera stops and the heart shaped ones by pigeon but they are so stiff I try to spin on them and they arent gliding across the floor like yours.
Count. One revolution. Stand still and count till your are not dizzy. 2 revolutions... count till you are not dizzy. The immediate focus of counting will help overcome dizziness.

Ok. Every time I come up on that toe stop...I STOP!! Haha like..EERK! and eventually, my toe stop falls off. Usually, I dont even notice that until I try again...yikes. what's going on!?!?!?@
