One can forget that Jean Harlow was a very young woman during her career. Her growth as an actress and star was extraordinary. While the makeup at times might seem dated, her beauty never is. Her scene with Robert Taylor is subtle and real. She deserves all the acclaim she continues to get from new fans today.

A true original. An icon, a star of the first order, a woman of humor and talent. When she is on screen, I can’t take my eyes off her. Few stars have this effect. Her life was brief, but her impact as a screen pioneer continues to this day. I love her in Red Headed Woman and Dinner at Eight: fantastic timing, sassiness, and elegance.

Jean was really quite underrated as an actress, everyone talks about all this blonde bombshell image stuff but Jean had great comic timing and was very good in the few dramatic roles she got like “Wife vs Secretary”, she had a wonderful screen presence, it’s shame she died so young she hadn’t quite reached her full potential yet

Jean Harlow was ahead of everyone. While some companies did mould their actresses and actors to be "seen this way __" She did not allow herself to be changed for anyone. Her kindness, her manners, her charisma, and her uniqueness is what attracted her fans and new audiences even today! To hear that MGM and other companies went silent for some time. MGM closed its doors for a while to mourn and remember Jean means a lot. Nowadays most film companies hear one of their stars has died and instead of mourning they go into a PR crisis = damage control.
I have seen at least three of her movies and I was sad when through my research I learned she died so young. I hope she is resting in peace being among the stars.

I always think about what it would have been if she had lived longer. Imagine her living to be 90 years old, doing 100+ films, seeing her on screen going through decades, watching her interviews, having daughters and sons growing up. It would have been amazing. Unfortunately, she was gone too soon. If I could go back in time, she would be a person I'd like to save somehow, as weird as that sounds, but I do think of it often. I discovered Jean's films about 12 years ago and I still enjoy them, just wish we had more..

    • @andrewbrendan1579
      @andrewbrendan1579 2 роки тому +4

That's a great question! My guess is that Jean's personal effects went to her mother but I wonder if the ring was returned to William Powell. I think it was in the highly unreliable "Harlow" by Iriving Schulman that it was mentioned that Mother Jean said she would have Jean's jewels buried with her so she could give them to Jean in Heaven. I've read several books about Jean Harlow but I don't think it was ever mentioned just what happened to the ring or other personal effects.----One thing mentioned in "Harlow" is that Jean and screenwriter Cary Wilson co-authored a novel called "Today is Tonight". That really did happen and the book was published long after Jean's death. I have a paperback copy printed in maybe the late 1960's---but haven't read it yet!

‘’Red Headed Woman’’ is borderline pornography; astonishing even today. Her character is so frank, mercenary and ruthless in using her body to reach her goals you have to wonder how Mayer allowed it, how even before the code it even got made; yet through it all there is her incandescent charm - somehow she gets away with it. She’s not filthy or depraved; just determined - a girls gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. A treat.

It's my understand that Paul Bern and Dorothy Millette had a common law marriage, which is really not marriage. There is only one real legal marriage, it is a unique relationship as regarded both by society and by the law, which is why it has been fought for for so long.

    • @rachelbachel2
      @rachelbachel2 Рік тому

@A Krenwinkle I believe it is still recognized in 7 states. You need to live together for 7 years for it to count. If you move to California from a state that recognizes it they honor it here as a legal marriage. It's how Pamela Courson Morrison got legal status as Jim Morrisons widow and inherited his estate. They'd spent some time in Colorado which at the time was a common law marriage state. I don't know if that is still true. After she died then it went to his parents as next of kin.

@@angelwings7930 Harlow was young and athletic and had not fallen ill yet, not an easy target. Shulman got much about Bern wrong, describing him as a nobody. Actually, he had his hand in many productions and was #3 at MGM, right after Mayer and Thalberg, which explains why Jean married this very unattractive man. In fact, when Joe Kennedy was considering setting up his own studio in LA, he wanted Bern to be head of production. The inaccuracies go on and on, and the only explanation is that Shulman knew what sold books.

Tell me, how can a mere child of, say, 7 years of age know anything about Hollywood's quintessential original blonde bombshell? A wonderful actress. Among her best films were "Dinner at Eight" and even more so, "Bombshell", in which she expressed her natural warmth, sensitivity, and sense of humor. This film also had a grain of truth in how she was treated by the studio and by her dominating mother in real life. After watching these films, one feels the terrible tragedy of her early death - which was nearly unbearable for her beloved William Powell.

AND, coincidentally, Gable was married to William Powell’s ex wife, Carol Lombard (a beautiful comedian in her own right!) at the time of Harlows passing. Powell being married & divorced from Lombard is one reason he was dragging his feet on marrying Harlow.

From what I've seen in the news reports that she was very sick for a long time before she died she was doing movies then why in the world wasn't she having to see a doctor for a physical exam why didn't they find it I don't think there was any treatments but from what I heard she didn't even know how thick she was maybe they didn't do exams in those days to be insured for the movie what a shame

Paul Bern( look at that photo... theres something strange and otherworldly and creepy about him/IDK maybe its just just...???IDK? Anyway. I'm FASCINATED with Jean Harlow!!!! I also love Myrna Loy and William Powell!!!!! "The Thin Man... Omgoodnessss!!!!.,. So when MY SWEET GIRL died in '37.....(so she didn't even know about WWII...) also ...Carole Lombard. She was on a small little plane and because we(US) was on high alert, lights were turned off and the pilot ran into the mountain... Clarke Gable, William Powell, Carole Lombard, Paul Bern (look that up!!!!!... it's WEIRD!!! creepy!

Jean Harlow and I are birthday twins. I’d love to see more of her work. Which film of hers should I start at? I’m inclined to start with Personal Property (1937) or Red-Headed Woman (1932), WDYT?
Also what film is that at 37:14?

"Hold Your Man." I would say start at the very beginning, "Double Whoopee" in which she had a bit, and attracted a lot of attention, then "The Saturday Night Kid," although it may not be available. (I've never seen it.) Find a chronology from beginning to end so you'll see how she grew as an actress, and did she ever!

36 films in 10 years, they said.
Were they feeding her drugs to do this?
Did the excessive drinking and drugs lead to kidney failure?
Over use of teens a d twenty somethings then spit them out appears to be the same today.
Why keep your stars so unhealthy?
    Same with music and touring.
    Promotional appearance.
    Fame and cash cows.
Yet, no quality personal relationships nor family life.
    Sad.
    Very sad indeed.

Clorox Bleach Does Not & Will Not Bleach your Hair.
The Term Bleach is just used, as that’s what the end result looks like.
You need a specially formulated “Bleach” powder Along w/Developer being mixed in to Activate the Bleaching chemicals.
The Darker the natural color the more processes you will need (most people need to double process it at 1st then do Roots every 2-3 wks. but roots will still probably be brassy if you have very dark hair.
Harlow either had Really light mousy hair & therefore not not needed one process or did it twice EVERY couple wks &
THEN (3rd&lastly besides REALLY Great Hair serums/Products cause your Hair is now SHOT!) once hair is bleached to that of a Very pale banana…you will be needing to TONE the Hair.
    Which is Platinum to White.
(Nowadays some people go almost Silver.)
ALWAYS when on screen no roots
    --OLD-SCHOOL
(Also meaning you never speak of it or admit it’s fake🙄😅)
