    Thank you so much for making this video. I was having the exact problem with my 52" Toshiba Regza which has the same power board. I followed what you did and found that same resistor was dead. I was able to order the exact component through Digikey and a friend of mine replaced the resistor and removed and cleaned the relays and reinstalled them, all for free. I installed the power board and checked for power again and everything is working again as it should!!! I bought this TV in 2009 brand new for $1700.00, this was the only issue this TV has had and I fixed it for a grand total of $7.62 !!!! I am so happy that it could be fixed as it is still a good TV and it won't end up in a land fill. Thanks again!!!

    Great help. I had planned to trash my 13 year old 52XV648U when it wouldn't turn on, then my wife found your video. Same board, same problem, easy fix. Thanks very much.

    Thanks a bunch. Steered me right to my same exact problem. Which was actually on a Toshiba Regza 46XV645U, but has an almost identical power board. And yes both of those same resistors to the right on mine have scorched the board as well, but test fine and equal.

    Great video -- I had the same issue, waiting on parts to hopefully correct. Sourcing these parts is a pain. Gonna take 2-3 weeks to get the relay (only could find it on ebay shipping from china) and the ceramic resistor I could get from amazon but it's not exactly the same... apparently not fused like the original but fits the 2 ohm, 5W, 5%. Crossing my fingers.

    Although I won’t be doing the repairs, this was very useful because of the knowledge part so that when I converse with the repair technician, I will have some idea what he is talking about. Since everything is original in my 12 year old set, do recommend changing the bulbs since I have it in shop? Thank you so much.

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  3 роки тому

      By bulbs I presume you mean indicator LEDs as there are no actual indicator lamps on these models. No, I wouldn't proactively change those if they are not already out as it requires further desoldering, thus more shop labor.

    Great video, thank you! Turns out the TV I have died for this exact same reason. I am purchasing a replacement part, however I can't seem to find any reasonably priced relays. Maybe someone has an alternative part number with similar specs and footprint?

    Thank you for the video. Very informative. I have a Toshiba 32 inch. The big capacitor on power supply popped. What would cause that?

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  Рік тому

      Thanks. These model sets for this video are well over a decade old now. Capacitors dry out inside, setting them up for shorting out internally and failing. Age can cause that. But it could also be from another component in the circuit failing causing the capacitor to experience higher than designed for current or voltage.

    Got the same problem, tracked it down to the resistor. Found the relay but can't seem to find the resistor. Do you happen to have an updated link?

    Very good diagnosis. I have the very same problem with my Toshiba Regza tv. I did similar assessments and determined that the same resistor RGDU5M-5E is bad and the Voltage regulator str y6456 9428A may also be bad. Where do you buy your replacement parts. Will be grateful for you help, cannot find any in Canada

    Our 55” Regza seemed to just go out. It won’t power on. But this seems way beyond my skill set. It’s been a good TV since 2009. I wish I had the ability to fix it. Im sure it would cost too much to get fixed at a repair shop.

      Thank you Dr Shock well Some person put his 65 inch Toshiba free and it was so heavy it took 3 guys to load it in my car .I was so Happy but I watched it for 2 days and noticed the sound go out and unplugged it and it came back on
      And it did it again that's when it never turned back on ,I believe he knew it was going out ,I drove 1 hour and the location was wrong ,anyways he claimed it was just to big on his back porch, It was very interesting watching you repair them and just like that you fixed it,I will continue to watch your videos ,Thank you for sharing your knowledge

    Everybody's an expert department: Because of the heat signature on the board, I would have replaced the 2 resistors with higher wattage units and mounted them 1/4 inch or so off of the board. They are likely underrated for power handling from the factory and/or mounted flush to the board and are just another failure waiting to happen. Just trying to maximize the life of the set until some high $$ part blows, rendering repair uneconomical.

    Nice video… I’m trying to fix my 42” toshiba now. Had a quick question: The power going out to the Lower B board is supposed to read 3.3V according to the flow chart, but it only reads 3.01V. Would that be a suspect sign for the power leaving that board? Or is it normal for the voltages to be a little off sometimes? Thanks.

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  2 роки тому

      Voltages can be a _little_ off, as a general electronics rule. I would suspect something amiss being 0.29V off though. I don't do TV repair as a regular activity, so couldn't suggest what you might look into further on this but if it were me I'd start with some DeoxIT and go from there. The difference maybe some added resistance, maybe oxidation on harness connection terminals, for example.

      @@DrShock awesome. Thanks.
      I'm an absolute neophyte when it comes to EE stuff. To make sure i don't get hurt using a multimeter, it seems like if I know i'm testing the specific components in your video, I don't need to be supplying the unit any power?

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  7 місяців тому

      There are voltage checks I show early in the video while doing diagnostics, where obviously AC power is required before we disassembled the power board. These tests have pop ups in the video warning of the risk of high voltage shock.
      But for the specific repair, the continuity and resistance tests were I show zeroing in on the failed component(s) would be with the power board having already been removed from the TV set and on the bench as shown.

    Thank you for this. Question, the connectivity of the 1.8 ohm resistor isn't beeping on my meter. I guess I have same problem. But I can't find the same resistor. Is there some leeway in replacing ? Can I use a 5 ohm ?

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  Рік тому

      The links I have in the video description show stock on hand for this specialized resistor. You definitely have to use the special ceramic type because of the current involved in this circuit. If for some reason I found I could not obtain the ~2Ω I would look for a 3Ω but not a 5.

      @@DrShock I sent a comment yesterday but for some reason the comment disappeared. Anyway, I had a similar issue. I bought a resistor from the eBay link you provided. However, I found that the resistor is much smaller in shape than the original one and its label indicates it is 0.06 Ω. Isn't it too small compared to 1.8 Ω of the original resistor? Any advice? Thanks.

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  Рік тому

      I've seen the size vary, but the value should be much closer to 2Ω in my experience. I would reach out to the seller, they may have sent you the wrong part.

    • @TimA9330
      @TimA9330 Рік тому

      @@DrShock If you look at the image of the resistor in the eBay link, you can see the label of 0.06 Ω. Sounds like I should not use it as its ohm is too smaller than 2 Ω. I will see whether I can get the one from your amazon link or not. In case I can't get it, do you think I can use a regular resistor with ohm close to 1.8 Ω as a replacement for the part? I understand that in your video, you called the part a thermal fuse resistor, not a plain resistor.

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  Рік тому

      That's right, you cannot use a standard/regular type wire wound resistor here. It needs to be this same ceramic type for a television application. Again, I would reach out to the seller and explain the part number they are advertising is supposed to be 1.8Ω to 2.0Ω, not less than 1Ω. They may have just made a mistake in the listing, or in what they shipped to you.

    you said you let the tv burn in for couple hours after your repair, whats that mean technically thx

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  10 місяців тому +1

      Just to run the set to (A) make sure you have effected a good repair before you button everything up all the way back and (B) to burn off any surface chemicals on the parts left over from manufacturing processes used in China. Those ceramic type resistors will sometimes give off a burning smell on first use when they heat up and then be fine from then on out.
