Tiller truck drivers -- the ones who drive the rear end of the really large fire trucks - wind through city streets as they do their job in Los Angeles
The guy on the right at 0:37 reminds me of one of the actors from ladder49. Same face geometry, same moustache, same haircut. God to honor, neighbour to defend Rough translation of the German firefighters motto.
Best part of my career was 8 years Tillering a Ladder Truck on West side of LA. 5 o’clock code 3 anywhere but down Sepulveda or Venice Blvd was an e-ticket ride. Speaking of which Disneyland had America the Beautiful and you rode w 360 cameras in tillerbucket through San Francisco or LA.
Another name for this is a Light Force a Truck and an Engine with a 3 digit number with the first number being a 2 in this case being light force 10 so T10 and E210
So the Orange County (this is key) Register, does a story about TDA's in the Los Angeles City Fire Department (not in Orange County) when lets see, the Orange County Fire Authority has about 15 of them, the Anaheim Fire Department has 2 or 3, the Newport Beach Fire Department has 2, the Huntington Beach Fire Department has 1, mind you, all of these agencies are in Orange County....but let us schlep to Los Angeles to cover this story.

My dad used to drive one of the city's "brown bomber" ambulances around there in the 50's out of Georgia Street Receiving Hospital.

I had to ask my uncle who's retired firefighter what the back firefighters on the engine do? He explained I always wondered what they did...

Very good presentation.
Great clip.
Are tiller trucks unique to the USA? If so, why, and how do other nations seem to manage perfectly well without them?
