I have struggled for a while trying to find useful information to tackle this task and finally have found, what i would say the best video on the internet. I absolutely love the videos will be watching them all. Thank you so much!!!!
Right on! I was waiting patiently to see the pto clutch adjustment, reading about it and seeing it is two different things, I have to adjust mine before the snow starts.
Thanks Lance I found this clutch vidio very helpful when I done the 35x clutch adjustments. I think I will have to split the tractor to adjust the secondary clutch as you said its a bit hard to get at.Cheers very helpful
Thanks again for another great video We run two 135s fir grass cutting on the railway One cranked front axle and other newer straight I fitted a new clutch assembly 5 years back but lost the dual clutch function which is a PITA cant access as it has a loader frame The supplier specifically said not to touch anything as it was all set up However they had never sen those shims and they are not in parts but input them back as you did We will have to take loader off one day and try to adjust the pto clutch gap to make it 2 stage again
Another excellent video Lance - learnt a lot today, shearing that bolt must have been a pain, but watching the remedial work was excellent - good to be back on the 135!
Thanks, messing with a Ferguson TO35 now. Clutch is stuck from years of oil impregnation. Have it soaking now, while waiting on a new starter. Appreciate the video. Just subscribe.
Hi Lance, very useful video. I'm in the process of changing a clutch in a Massey 65 which is very similar. Thanks for the tip of checking how the clutch plates fit onto the splined shafts before assembly of the clutch and tractor. Better to find out if there are any issues prior to assembly and save a lot of time wasting. I will also check the condition of the clutch fixing bolts now that i have watched this video. Keep up the great work.
.the 65 and 165 are basically the same as the 135 the clutch springs may be a different spring to give more pressure as the 65 and 165 engines are 4 cylinder over as 3 cylinder engine. Both made by perkins. The early 4 cylinder perkins engines was 204 engine or 203. The later engine came with the 212. Engine In the 165 tractor the 65s were 203 engine engines hope this helps ?
I am really enjoying watching your videos. Keep up the good work! However, I would have loved to hear what you said when you discovered that the spacer had fallen off!
I have always stayed away from clutches and transmission as I felt they were sort of magical to work on with way to many parts to keep up with. Your 135 video series has given me the confidence to jump in and take on the clutch, PTO shaft and hydraulic lift systems. Thank you for making these. Now all I have to do is split the tractor and find out what kind of clutch I actually have in there, order it, wait 2.5 weeks for the parts to arrive. Here in the US all the virus stuff has shipping in snail mode. Not good when I depend on my tractor for my income. The other day a part took 6 days from a place only 2 hours from me. Can you fix the shipping systems too? LOL. Thank you again for the knowledge.
I had three of the exact same old bolts break myself last year! The bolts break at the top of the thread, bad design with the shoulder and difficult to get out as they sit so low and in my case didnt break even. I was just writing before it happened on the video to use new bolts here. Im about to rebuild my tractor, Great Video Series, youve answered so many questions!! Ive heard two stories about these shim inserts, the one you said and the other was that it was an error by the engineers which i think it was... i had this shim laser cut from one solid piece.
We recently did the rope seal on my brothers 135 and our bolts broke exactly as yours did. I wish I'd seen this video before we did ours, but thats tractoring for you. It must be a common fault I guess and something to look for when we do up our 20E clutch
Hi Lance, great video! I am replacing clutch in early model 6 speed multi-power... you mentioned distance between machined faces of flywheel should be about 37 mm but said to look up. Where? I can’t find it in the service manual. Mine is about 42 mm now after machine shop work. Thanks and keep it up!
Great video Lance. One question - when making this PTO clutch adjustment under the tractor what is the best way to turn the clutch/flywheel in order to reach all three bolts? Just curious. Have a great day.
.PTO clutch adjust ment is normally made in the rebuild of the clutch. And not to be done again . Has any additional adjustment is made on the clutch foot pedal. Petting a small bar in the hole of round shaft un lock pinch bolt slightly and putting pressure onto the cluth and adjust pedal so there is about 1/8 to 316th of an inch free play on on pedal tighten the lock nut bolt cheek you have this free play before clutch pedal starts to display engage the clutch. As your clutch wears down all the adjustment is done via this method till clutch is no good and worn out . Then time to replace the clutch. Hope this helps
. The Massey Ferguson tool. Was made by churchill tools. And was about 1/8 th to 3/16 th of an inch. For the gap in PTO clutch adjustment. Once fitted to the flywheel and 3 transport bolts removed.
I ended up buying a complete clutch assembly as it was cheaper than just the parts. Once the clutch assembly is attached and the 3 transport bolts are removed is that when to make the adjustment to the 3 bolts that touch the pressure plate tabs? Not the bolts that touch the throwout bearing. Also once all the bolts that hold the assembly to the flywheel are installed are the clutch disk supposed to be tight so they don't move? (I would assume so as that would be normal drive state once it is in the tractor and the throwout bearing on the clutch pedal would press them allowing them to spin freely?) Just difficult lining things back up on the drive shaft, but I'll keep trying slowly and turning the shafts inside the gear box.
Lance, Great videos, hugely informative. However I have just fitted a new 12 inch dual clutch with 12 red springs to an MF 135. I should have removed 6 springs as I have to stand on the clutch - really heavy. Could 6 of those springs be got out from underneath without splitting again, perhaps by using a dremel tool or other method to cut the spring or would that be enough even if it was possible.
Hi Lance Very nice video, thumbs up :) I have a 35X where the PTO clutch does not work, now I have to undu the plate underneeth, and check the adjustment :) Most of the time during this series, you mention tollerences and tourqe spec in mm, but this one you mention in imperial. What will 65 thou translate to in mm, can you help me with that? Is the following correct: (65*25,4)/1000 = 1,651 mm Best regards Karsten Jørgensen Denmark
How are you lance was wondering why the clutch pedal would go stiff after replacing the smaller clutch disc ? I ran through all the specs you have here. Same 11 inch clutch disc
I worked at a MF main agent in the 60s and 70s and have done hundreds of clutches, I always thought the metal shims were there so in the event of the clutch wearing ( which they did a lot ) and the face of the flywheel getting damaged it could be skimmed by the thickness of the shims and then they could be left out but that was only my understanding of them. As for the 90 thou adjustment I always adjusted these to 110 thou as it gave the main drive plate more time to disengage before disengaging the pto.
Hello Lance I like to share some problems i encounter during My chlutch assambling First i bought a complete new One and in the documentation from supplyer it notes i shoud not use the original spacers anymore Some People say i shoud use Them its THE new typer Whit 6 red springs can i go whitout Them or shoud i pout Them back in ? Go with the supplier if the flywheel has not been machined differently. The red springs are fine they changed in around 1982. The pto setting would be between 1.5 and 2mm
Yes, absolutely but they can be a bit of a fiddle. You need to take time to line everything up well and if you have the front gearbox shafts out for re sealing they can be used .
Possibly but you need to remember in filming at times what you see isnt the end of the job. I get that busy filming that things get missed but before it is all together I have a good look. There are times when the ring is not needed too.
@@BundyBearsShed no worries I do that all the time. As soon as I said that you fixed it. I put a new cluch in my 65 massey and it never had a spacer. And my pto clutch slips so I guess everything is just too worn so I have a new kit ordered. Hopefully it solves the issue.
Thanks for this video. I learned more from watching uou than reading the book on clutch adjustment fixing to get started before it gets hot .
Glad it helps.
Keep these videos coming Lance! I’d be lost without them. I’m restoring a 1973 MF165. MY first and probably last restoration!
G Day Mat, I should be back at them soon as soon as I get this new web site done at work. I would much rather be in the shed.
Bundy Bears Shed Awesome, as ive said on another video, if you’ve got anything of you putting the lift cover back together that would be great!

Nice work! Thank you. Trying to replace fan belt on my 165 (with a cab) military version with a front PTO, dang thang, more work than I want
Front pumps are always a pain. We would tie an extra one in there while doing one.

Yes often it can be adjusted and tested easily from underneath, worth a go but the loader makes it a big job.
Another excellent video Lance - learnt a lot today, shearing that bolt must have been a pain, but watching the remedial work was excellent - good to be back on the 135!
Thanks Charles, I should have picked up on the bolt earlier with a couple of ring ins but not to worry it wasnt too hard to remedy.
Nice and educational. Keep up your good work! From a rainy Sweden.

We are having the same sloooow troubles over here we have customers ring every day but there is not much we can do apart from tracking.
Great video Lance, just wondering what size/dimensions is that clutch alignment tool?
I think there might be a diagram on my www.queenslandtractorspares.com.au website in the technical section.

Yes it is for sure.
What is the size off the TRANSPORT BOLT ????? is it 5/16 UNC and how long ?? Thanks a lot. Michell norway 🚜👍🏻😊
They are 1/4unc but probably 2" long
hey, what's the clearence mesurement for the 3 bolts ?
0.070" works well usually
thank you for your reply! i'm watching from Canada and your videos are really good !
quick question: what happen if clearance is not correct ?

I put a screw driver into the clutch and turn it gently.

The plates will move until the transport screws are removed. you can back them out so there is just a slight drag to line things up.
The blank section of bolt is called the grip length.
Ah yes
Very helpful vedeo do you have any on pto clutch replacement and hydraulic pump to the hi volume. On 175 MF
No not as yet as I dont have a tractor to work on.
Complimenti bel video io o un massey ferguson 240,e sono appassionato di meccanica.

What does he say around 25,42? I don't understand it quite well, does he say 65 and 72 or what does he say? 🙏🙏
I say 0.065" or 0.070" gap

Yes thats what I often use.

Yes roughly 1mm is 0.040" the exact measurement is not as important as having them all even.

Hi there, just after fitting a new clutch to mf 135 diesel, and my forks arent even, and when i try adjust them to 41.5mm they wont adjust down
The fingers shoule be even, if the fork is bent you will need to get a new one.
Thanks bunday bar
Thanks Walter
What is the reason when the second stage is working first but PTO pump is not stopping
I think the adjustment on the 3 bolts that I set at 0.060" might be wrong or it has rusted stuck.
@@BundyBearsShed thanks mate appreciate the info the brother reckons never worked since he put it in I'm thinking it needs splitting & doing again
