    Beautiful tank, and I wish it would be back in service for many more decades.

    The M60 Patton is a beautiful tank, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced unnecessarily.

    Seems like a 12.7 mm automatic machine gun is a mute point unless you can have an accurate fire control system and even then 50 caliber is still limited in range and accuracy. It seems like 25mm cannon would have a better choice but I'm guessing that added weight, cost, accuracy and still range. They can probably be tag by aircraft well before the M60A3 up grade can react. That's why the Vulcan divisional level ADA wasn't as effective as a key to divisional air defense for the U. S. Army.

      The .50 caliber remote weapons system is meant to be used for anti-infantry and/or anti-materiel not anti-aircraft.

    This tank is no longer an M-60A3. It is now something else. M-60A4 or A5 maybe.

      M60A3 is the US military designation, and as this is not intended for the US military, I don't think it should follow their nomenclature. I think, however, they are specifically targeting this at the M60A3 platform, for which a number of upgrade packages exist.
      I do see where you are coming from, though. The other packages some with sexy new names, like L3's Destroyer or GDLS's M-60-2000. Israel has the Sabra kits for export and call their own Pattons the Magachs. The Jordanians are working on the M60 Phoenix, as well.
      I would like to know more about how the 120/45 low recoil gun fares when stack up to the 120mm L/44 of most of the other upgrade kits, though. Also, most of the information seems rather vague. Even when talking about the new power pack, they only say that it 'guarantees a higher power-to-weight ratio.' Nothing more specific. However, I have seen packs that claim between 908hp on the low even, all the way to 1200hp.

      @@wesleybyrd2682 This one is 908 but way better fuel economy. Raytheon's got power packs rated at 950 and at 1200hp. Many militaries are opting for fuel economy over speed with armored vehicles these days.

    Why not put a 120mm L/55 low recoil gun on M60A3 tank?

    • @DestroyerJoni20
      @DestroyerJoni20 3 роки тому +1

      I think it is a derivative of the L/55 but they may have changed things like rifling on the barrel or maybe they changed the breach at the back for space purposes.
