I don't think it's that rare tbh. Plenty of them just sitting in the desert or being used as target practice if anyone wants to buy one and spend a bit of time restoring it
One of my first jobs out of high school, i got to work on building M-60's. I worked in hull fab in a local mill/foundry. we made the turrets and the hulls and shipped them off to Detroit, i think. I was on a crew that drilled and tapped all of the holes. I can still remember most of the hole sizes 40 years later. I never saw a completed tank until a few years ago at a national guard armory.

I worked on those in Ft. Hood, Texas. When you put one in PARK, then lock the brakes, sometimes it will not release. There is a simple fix. My ETS DATE August, 1969. One week before I got out......on a blistering Sunday I took an M-60 A1 on a joy ride right down the main drag on Ft.Hood, and got caught. My motor sgt, and company commander were waiting for me. Today is June 8, 2021. My ass still has teeth marks. The next day my C.O. gave me a re enlist talk and offered me a ton of cash. Now I wish I had stayed in. To me, that M-60 was THE best tank ever at the time. In South Korea we had M-48’s with carbs. They sucked.
at 0:59 seconds he is almost completely screwed. He almost threw the track off the tank.....With only two people that is a like a week long job to get it back on
That little "thunk thunk" is when the sprocket is saying to the track: "What do you think about falling off the sprocket?" I ignored that sound when turning at a German crossroad during a winter maneuver in 1980... and the track jumped the sprocket. Just a little track throw - fixable with track breakers and a big wrench in about an hour. Then the Lieutenant said "Get that tank off the Road!". I backed up about 40 feet and the TRACK FELL OFF! ENTIRELY! Took an M88 plus me and my crew about 8 hours to get the track back on. Lieutenants! What can you do?
For driving unbuttoned, the driver’s field of view is excellent. When driving buttoned up, the driver’s position is equipped with 3 daytime periscopes, which provide fairly reasonable visibility. For nighttime operation, there is a passive IR periscope that is affixed in a rotating mount in the driver’s hatch. It turns the world green.
Good comment Mike ! Good God . I remember a couple of occasions out at Ft. Irwin Ca. back in the '70's in 100+ degree heat trying to get a track back on. Not fun. Any of you tankers remember using that huge hydraulic impact wrench that was powered off the hydraulics of the M88 ?? ( That is if those goof-off mechanics found some shade to park the M88 and turned off their radios ) It was so unwieldy and heavy I remember just trying to use the regular hand wrenches.
If that’s the best you can afford then I guess it’ll be alright. Lol. Just jokin. I love the M60 Patton. Sexiest damned tank of all time. Has a fierce profile to it. 🇺🇸
I think he means the last armoured track machine meant to absorb enemy tank rounds. The Abrams is more about speed and mobility and has less heavy armour.
@@HunterXray M1 has a center mounted with the shiftier in the middle of it the throttle is on the Motorcycle grips which both sides twist . 6 forward gears in low range 4 in drive a pivot steer as well as a neutral steer . 2 reverse gears as well . The first ones were ungoverned and would fly down the road yet agile enough to balance on top of a 3 ft wall . You could literally run faster in reverse then most tanks in the world could go forward . So the words Mobile Agile and definitely Hostile apply nicely .
When I was ten I said I was gonna get me an old Sherman but at eighteen I knocked up my girlfriend. Now I'm 61 have three children and six grandchildren. Still no Sherman.
This passive ERA was useless against russian 100 or 115mm BM3-6 amno. And against BM9-23 125mm total useless in 70s-80s This passive had only psychological effect on the tank crew. Best modernisation of M60 had Israeli Magach 6B Gal Batash. Turret profile was style as Merkava 4.
I couldn’t find the specific ammo you’ve listed, but judging by the fact it’s denoted as BM, that would meant it’s an APFSDS shell. Of course the ERA on this tank wouldn’t stop those shots. It’s meant for HEAT-FS and other chemical munitions
the m60 engine has the best sound out of any tank engine man it just sounds nice.
It is an M60A1 RISE PASSIVE.
This is an extremely rare M60 with ERA package, thank for sharing !
We had them in Desert Storm. Semper Fi!

@@m60patton49 unfortunately it's very difficult to get permission to have one with a functioning cannon and a tank without a cannon is just sad...

That's the cleanest M60 I've ever seen, plus the newest tracks.

It's a good thing you keep it in a pen like that. If one of those things got out and loose in the neighborhood, there'd be hell to pay.
I feel like this comment is extremely under appreciated. Even a year later.
Happened in the early 90's lol
Brings back memories. I was a M60 TC from 71-75. USMC MOS - 1811

That is one very nice M60 Fred.
It is good to see a piece of history in good working condition as your M60 is.
"Wanna have kids?"
"Yeah we need a loader and radio operator"
Radio Operator? This is a Patton Series MBT. Tank Commander, Gunner, Driver and Loader.
Beautiful tank, and I wish it would be back in service for many more decades.
wow that is a cool tank! M60 with an armor package
BRAUTIFUL TANK!!!.
That's the ultimate boys toy, thanks for sharing.
First tank I trained on was am M60A1. He's lucky the tracks stayed on
Good way to trow a track
I was the driver of C66 a M60a1 change a track doing that after a torsion bar broke on the 3rd road wheel, was not a fun job.
Love these tanks. Lol there was also a Chrysler ad with it on this video. Oh the irony.

Tanks should have cameras for the driver for better situational awareness

Neutral steering in soft terrain is unadvisable, unless throwing a track and putting it back on is your idea of fun.
I was just going to say that. I actually said "no" while watching.

Super song !!! :-))).
The difference between men and boys is the size of their toys.
I drove around in those in AOB 20 in 1970 at Fort Knox.
it was a USMC variant, the blazer armor kinda is a tell, I never saw those in the Army, oh and nice railhead simulator :P

How were you able to purchase it? I am interested in purchasing a M 88 VTR. Any ideas?
One of the last American tanks. The Abrams is a tank destroyer
Than why is it called a "main battle tank"?

The best m.60
How come no side hull protection ?
I am looking to purchase a M88. Could you tell me where you purchased the M60 as I would like to discuss my purchase. Thanks
where can you buy these vehicles
I don't know but if you find out I would like to know. Nice tank
That rack just doesn't look right without duffel bags in it ;-)
Weare can I buy one, seen other types for sale in UK but not a m60. Would like to buy one to restore Ronald Babin
*Proceeds to high center tank
i was on top off one today
Pretty quiet tank, not a lot of track noise.
How does a civilian get ERA fir a tank?
How do you drive this? Is it a control column like an Abrams, or 2 levers? Also is it hard to see where you are going?
T bar like the Abrams, except the M60 has an accelerator pedal and shift lever.

Sadness, no cannon fire.

Track tension looks loose.
Not a good idea to neutral steer in soft ground like that. A good way to throw a track.
