  • Boundaries are hard. They take extreme discipline to uphold them sometimes, especially when you have to say no to good things. Today we will look at why boundaries are important and how to implement them in your life!

Suggest expanding boundary in terms of walking your dog. A healthier boundary indeed.

I've found boundaries have been super important in dealing with co-dependent relationships, and avoiding to become co-dependent. But also I've found that recognizing my boundaries and setting them with the people who I already have a healthy relationship to does wonders as well. For example: I enjoy video games but my wife doesn't. Instead of just cutting them out of my life entirely, I've so far been able to find the healthy amount of time for me to enjoy them and stick to that. Before in my life the boundary was very weak and I played too much, then during the development of my relationship with my now-wife, I set the boundary too far to the other side and began feeling deprived.
Now I understand better when to defend my boundary and allow myself the time to play games. Granted, it took time to find that sweet-spot. Funnily enough, it was me who challenged that boundary more than anybody else, always tending to push it towards working more. I still have much to deal with in terms of allowing myself to enjoy my free time without the guilt of doing something ultra-productive.
Side note: Thanks Adam for your thoughts and advice! I took your idea of writing more and implemented it into my work. I was finding myself getting burned out with some of my projects and implemented a way for me to write stuff down instead of using the computer to check tasks off or track things. It's true that it takes me a little longer to do certain things, but it was doing those things that was driving me crazy in the first place. Now that I'm writing stuff for that task instead of typing, I find myself more motivated and engaged in the tasks I was having difficulty staying focused on.
