Hi Everyone and Welcome Back To My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
This is a lovely basic dress which I have made up in a vibrant floral print. I took a few steps out and simplified a few, but overall left the design intact! I made it out of a cotton woven fabric. Unfortunately, my audio quality wasn't the best and I sport an icky Band-Aid part of the time. Sorry!
Other than that, I hope you like it!
    ~Marie

I started sewing again 2 years ago (on retirement), after a gap of over 37 years. I have watched you regularly since my return and learn something every single time. At times this has been a lifeline as I originally learned from a vogue sewing book but there is nothing like watching an expert both at sewing and teaching. Than you.

    Beautiful project.
Can absolutely relate to busted open fingers. Which I must say beautifully manicured hands have nothing to do with sewing and distract from the teaching so way to go Marie. No apologies necessary.
As for the microphone, I never noticed any issues and thank you again for all you give us, we humble sewing 🧵 enthusiasts. ❤

I like the way you wash and pre-shrink your fabric. Hot wash and hot dry. The dress turned out perfect. Would love to hear what all you did when you refurbished your vintage sewing machine.

Bummer on the microphone replacement snafu! Pearl’s lovely white surface should also reflect the lights better which is such a help to being able to see while you’re sewing. I LOVE this fabric! Soooo pretty! Perfect buttons. Your creation looks lovely & so comfortable. Thanks for sharing your work.

It's so pretty, Marie! Very Spring-like with those glorious colours 😍 As for the icky finger, we sewists all get through sticking plasters like they were going out of fashion, so don't fret about it 😊

Lovely fabric, lovely dress. You are the queen of easing….I now realise I never really knew how to do it properly. I always assumed I had cut out my fabric incorrectly, hence I would take ages cutting out to avoid ‘mistakes’. Thank you for showing me how it is done. Your cats always manage to get in on the act at the end of your videos 😂🤣

Thank you for your videos. I love the amount of detailed instruction in how to sew the different pieces together, as well as the rationale of how and why you do something. I like how you show the alteration of the pattern(s) to fit your body. I also like your use of floral prints in the dress. You've inspired me to start sewing some clothes for myself again - I haven't sewn in a long time.

I think you are amazing. The Meister looks fabulous. When you mentioned your nails it made me think of some ponte I was using for a muslin the other day. My fingers were black. I ended up throwing it away. I am curious about using the selvage edge. Has it ever caused problems for you? I have also started washing my fabric in hot water as per your advice. I have made a couple of garments lately and pre washed the fabric only to have them shrink again when washed. Absolutely love your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. Such a joyful dress. Looks lovely on you.

      @mybucoliclife  Рік тому

Hello! On some fabrics the selvage will shrink more... But since I pre shrink it I should be ok. I wouldn't use the selvage unless it is pre shrunk though. 😁

A great dress and an absolutely awesome print!
Can you share what type of woven fabric it is? I know you said its 100% cotton, but is there a specific name?
Most of the cotton fabric at my local store is for quilting and its very stiff, not suitable for a dress. Some advice on what cotton fabrics I should be looking for would be really helpful.

    • @mybucoliclife

    • @mybucoliclife

Honestly it depends on my frame of mind, the fabric and how well a fusible will adhere to it. I think that in general all of the methods will work equally good, it's just a matter of finding which one makes the most sense to you on that day.
