Moto is figuring out to be a great smartphone company, but one weak point of theirs is that major software updates will break some features, which, even though non-essential to normal functioning of the phone, will cause annoyance. For example, the Android 13 update broke the Google Wallpapers app on my Moto Edge 20 Pro. I can't use it anymore, and they said that I'll either have to wait for Android 14 (which my device isn't supposed to get) or factory reset my phone. All because their team overlooked a bug in a built-in app. The second problem is the community support website and Warranty claims. First, the community website mods are pretty much clueless about these devices. Don't expect anything from there. Also, it may have been because I live in a small city, but the service centre guys were also clueless about what covered warranty and what didn't. My camera's sensor OIS had got stuck and it resulted in faulty photos, but the service centre kept having a back-and-forth with their "higher ups" for about 5 hours before they accepted my phone for warranty replacement.

Hey there just to let you know guys about the device as I have purchased it in 1st sale Mine moto edge 40 is delivered on 9th may (Coronet Blue) color. 1. Heating issue is there even I have used it in Ac. The device heats up a lot from back panel, sides, and display as well 2. Battery is having some issues it is draining faster when it goes below 30%. 3. It doesn't charge from 0-100% in 30 minutes it takes more than 50min to charge. Around 65 or 70 mins. 4. Display is really good and looks are really close to premium, but there are some issue when there are black color in the image and video. 5. Gaming is good at low setting in BGMI, but heating is there, and after playing for more than 1hr the display doesn't feels that smooth I think because of heating. 6. I ran antutu benchmark for a) 1st time score 634000 approx b) 2nd time - 550000 approx c) 3rd time - 772367 I don't how this much d) 4th time - 654319 e) in antutu testing it lost 6-7% battery and temperature of battery goes upto 42%, I don't have any temperature measuring machine so I was relying on battery temperature shown by antutu app 7. There is no always on display you need to rely on 3rd party if you want AOD like samsung or other amoled panel. 8. In hand feels is really on another level 9. One other thing is that phone doesn't cool down quick it takes time to cool down may be due to metal frame and the slim design. 10. Day to day performance is snappy and it is more than enough for me as I have used snapdragon 675 before this. For contact or further details you can reach me out on Instagram - navneet.s11
Very good points there but now it's been 3 months since you wrote this comment. Can you please share your experience on battery life and performance when used on 120 hz, for moderate usage like light gaming, OTT and social media. I need a phone that has decent battery life so I am confused between this and moto edge 40 Neo which recently came out.
Sir i have few questions- What about the screen protection? Does this also have a 10bit poled display? What is the modem speed? Is it better than what Pixel 7A provides?
I have to say ranjit .. ur reviews are really nice and i trust your judgement. It's more to do with your personality and no gimmick outcome compared to some of the other over rated jump cut graphic loaded videos. Keep up the good work and best of luck.
Hello Ranjith The only thing that kept me back from buying this was the negative camera reviews I found on youtube and on the internet. You and GSMArena are the only 2 places where I heard that the camera quality is good enough especially the back cameras. If one of my priorities are a good main camera performance should I still consider this under 30k or should I go with realme gt 2(25k)?
The truth is the camera is not a strong point of this smartphone if you are hoping for photography POV. You can do it but you may need Gcam or manually play with settings..
I did end up buying this phone and it looks and feels premium. I couldn't get the vegan leather variant. Had to go with the plastic one. Overall i like the phone and everything about it except its camera, i expected it to be a bit better. I think Iqoo Neo 7 does a better job there. AOD is also not present (you get peek display). Battery life is amazing i am getting SOT of around 9 hours in WI-FI. I would have also liked a pro mode for video(you can do amazing things) and some other features.
Hey, I have ordered the same phone but black vegan one. I have heard about people facing severe heating issue, also which tempered glass you are using, are UV glass safe or they would void the warranty?
If someone's priority is a good camera phone..then they should skip Motorola phones. Lowlight selfies are just terrible in any Moto phones. Outdoor photos and videos are good but indoor it really struggles. Except camera.. moto is as reliable as it can get. Display battery performance you cannot complain. As and Edge 20 fusion user for the past 2 years..the battery life is still decent enough. The updates are slow..but you get bimonthly security patches on time. Camera tuning updates are rolled out now and then.
Why is the absence of Always on display not mentioned in the cons? Havig an amoled panel means we can have always on display. But on this one, it only has peak display which lights up the AOD type feature when the device is moved or lifted.
Because hardly anyone uses it especially in mid range and budget devices. They tend to use alot of battery and also cause pixel burn issues if you are living in a place with a temperature more than 27°.
My priorities are good rear and front camera and long battery life. Which phone should I consider to purchase, Moto Edge 40, Nothing Phone 1, Samsung A54 or S21 Fe? Plus, I want to use the phone for atleast next 3 years. Please, suggest the best balanced phone considering these criterias.

9:03 Hi sir, I'm getting only 4.5 hours of battery life after having a moderate usage (without gaming) throughout the day and this is on 5g recommended network mode selected, using Airtel 5g. Just an honest review.
Hello there, I've been thinking about buying this phone and all things seem to be just alright and some to be really good, But the one thing YOU and many youtubers didn't seem to talk about is the GLASS QUALITY used for the screen, as from observations from gupta information channel the screen seems to be easily scratched all the way from LEVEL 2 which is unusual for glass screen, and as the screen is curved we'd be having proper quests to find a quality tempered glass or any guard for that matter. Motorola seems to have done a great job in so many aspects of this phone, BUT leaving the most vulnerable part of the phone to no attention and equipped with sub-par and CHEAP quality glass. If possible, please do talk about this. Thank you. - L

@@deepakkumar-hi6wy the phones are awesome. No lag , pure stock Android experience, no bloats + very low price for exchanges. Man it's the complete package. Its just a very feel good phones. Just go for it.
@@deepakkumar-hi6wy have you bought it?
Motorola is my favourite when it comes to my clean android experience and definitely the camera as always mentioned needs to be improved ....I simply love this phone especially the Black leather finish...I wish I could get it where I am staying now .🇨🇦
Thank you @geekyranjit for honest review. I bought this device after your review. Phone was beyond expectations.

➤ Motorola Moto Edge 40
Pros ✅
- Super comfy & lightweight
- Leather > Glass
- IP68 is a superb addition
- Gorgeous curved display
- Amazing speakers
- 68W w/ 4400 mAh is a good combo
- Usable wireless charging @ 15W
- My UX is clean & fluid
- Dimensity 8020 is a reliable chip
- F/1.4 really helps in close ups & low light
- 4K across all lenses
- Decent camera w/ new features
Cons ❌
- Average haptics
- D8020 isn't the best for gaming (No 90FPS in COD)
- 3 OS updates could've been given
- HDR processing needs improvement
- Oversharpening in certain shots
- UW struggles in low light
Overall, Motorola has added a lot of meaningful upgrades to the Edge 40 but the camera isn't best-in-class. An easy recommendation under ₹30,000 for casual users.
Yeah, same goes for poco F5 and iqoo phones too. They too have some similar cons. I guess no phone is perfect.
Google pixel devices shines in camera but lacks in the processor power. There's lot of compromises in many phones. Better to go with 35k+ phones.
From Australia 🇦🇺 Thank You so Much for your review 😊
Great phone by Motorola, unfortunately I already bought Edge 30, 6 months ago 😔
Good phone but exchange offers are available, if interested
Hey there just to let you know guys about the device as I have purchased it in 1st sale
Mine moto edge 40 is delivered on 9th may (Coronet Blue) color.
1. Heating issue is there even I have used it in Ac. The device heats up a lot from back panel, sides, and display as well
6. I ran antutu benchmark for
a) 1st time score 634000 approx
b) 2nd time - 550000 approx
c) 3rd time - 772367 I don't how this much
d) 4th time - 654319
e) in antutu testing it lost 6-7% battery and temperature of battery goes upto 42%, I don't have any temperature measuring machine so I was relying on battery temperature shown by antutu app
7. There is no always on display you need to rely on 3rd party if you want AOD like samsung or other amoled panel.
8. In hand feels is really on another level
9. One other thing is that phone doesn't cool down quick it takes time to cool down may be due to metal frame and the slim design.
10. Day to day performance is snappy and it is more than enough for me as I have used snapdragon 675 before this.

Sir i have few questions-
What about the screen protection?
Does this also have a 10bit poled display?
What is the modem speed? Is it better than what Pixel 7A provides?
I have to say ranjit .. ur reviews are really nice and i trust your judgement. It's more to do with your personality and no gimmick outcome compared to some of the other over rated jump cut graphic loaded videos. Keep up the good work and best of luck.
If processor is 7Gen 2 it would have been amazing.
yeah that's 💯
yeah @ 35 k
The screen locking and unlocking sounds remaind me of my first ever smart phone .....moto e2......definitely gonna purchase this one only
Imagine this phone going for sale for 25k during Diwali sales🤩
It should, that's when I'm planning to buy.
Me also
Till then more better phones will come to market..
@@Avi9952 Agreed.
Thank you Ranjit for the review and look forward for your Lava Agni2 review.
Really a flagship killer😊
I was expecting and thinking about this video and it came up in notification 🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Hello Ranjith
The only thing that kept me back from buying this was the negative camera reviews I found on youtube and on the internet. You and GSMArena are the only 2 places where I heard that the camera quality is good enough especially the back cameras.
If one of my priorities are a good main camera performance should I still consider this under 30k or should I go with realme gt 2(25k)?
You can go with it as moto's gonna improve the cameras more with updates
The truth is the camera is not a strong point of this smartphone if you are hoping for photography POV. You can do it but you may need Gcam or manually play with settings..
Wait for OnePlus Nord 3
Loved ur review sir ranjit
15:43 waiting for review,lava Agni 🔥
If someone's priority is a good camera phone..then they should skip Motorola phones. Lowlight selfies are just terrible in any Moto phones. Outdoor photos and videos are good but indoor it really struggles. Except camera.. moto is as reliable as it can get. Display battery performance you cannot complain. As and Edge 20 fusion user for the past 2 years..the battery life is still decent enough. The updates are slow..but you get bimonthly security patches on time. Camera tuning updates are rolled out now and then.
Completely agreed and with camera updates they improve their cameras too
Wise to buy A54 instead ?
The Review I have been waiting for
Thank You Ranjit for the amazing and reliable review
Why is the absence of Always on display not mentioned in the cons? Havig an amoled panel means we can have always on display. But on this one, it only has peak display which lights up the AOD type feature when the device is moved or lifted.
bcoz ppl don't care much abt it. and its a net picking and cannot be consider as con
And moto's peak display is much better than traditional AODs as you can interact with notifications from lockscreen itself
Moto have peak display which is more functional than always on
Because hardly anyone uses it especially in mid range and budget devices. They tend to use alot of battery and also cause pixel burn issues if you are living in a place with a temperature more than 27°.
Geekyranjit👌
Moto edge 40👌👌
Review👌👌👌
My priorities are good rear and front camera and long battery life. Which phone should I consider to purchase, Moto Edge 40, Nothing Phone 1, Samsung A54 or S21 Fe?
Plus, I want to use the phone for atleast next 3 years. Please, suggest the best balanced phone considering these criterias.
Go with Vivo v27
Wait for OnePlus Nord 3
This video was nice. Agni 2🤩 thanks for the last second surprise 😍
The camera seems like a deal breaker as I take a lot of photos of surrounding but otherwise a great phone.
Gcam is available buddy, and moto's gonna improve the cameras with updates
@@mayukhbagchi They should have done that before launching the product not after through updates. They know how bad the moto edge 30 had bad camera quality so they should have learnt the mistake and improved in the next iteration.
@@mayukhbagchi Gcam only works well with snapdragon chipset. Mediatek chipset doesnt provide good results in Gcam.
I hope this phone comes with a 7 Gen +2 chipset, it will be the performance beast in its category.
@@vignesh_waran that's how moto operates and they've improved there cameras quite a lot but yeah there's a long way to go still
One and only genuine reviewer in India
Why moto is addictive to launch slim phones 😑 instead they could have kept 5000 mah..
Watching the video on my moto edge 40. I had receiver issue on my iphone 13. Its in warranty I have been to Apple care they didn't repair my device for free due to I had a dent on my iphone. Then I wanted to switch to Android phone and I have bought this edge 40 I loved this. And this mobile has become my primary mobile now
Hi sir i am planning to buy new phone this new year between google pixel 6a or Motorola's edge 40 pls suggest which one can be bought
Which one you bought

Been waiting for your review from a long time Ranjith. Thanks for this n
After a long time iam watching your video ❤
@geekyranjit: ranjit sir please tell us about, what type of front glass protection used on this phone?
Neg glass
Hey Ranjit, can you please tell me about it's haptic feedback? Does it feel premium as well?
9:03 Hi sir, I'm getting only 4.5 hours of battery life after having a moderate usage (without gaming) throughout the day and this is on 5g recommended network mode selected, using Airtel 5g. Just an honest review.
Hello there, I've been thinking about buying this phone and all things seem to be just alright and some to be really good,
But the one thing YOU and many youtubers didn't seem to talk about is the GLASS QUALITY used for the screen, as from observations from gupta information channel the screen seems to be easily scratched all the way from LEVEL 2 which is unusual for glass screen, and as the screen is curved we'd be having proper quests to find a quality tempered glass or any guard for that matter.
Motorola seems to have done a great job in so many aspects of this phone, BUT leaving the most vulnerable part of the phone to no attention and equipped with sub-par and CHEAP quality glass.
If possible, please do talk about this. Thank you.

Great review sir. Waiting for Agni 2 videos..
The big question that strikes every mind is about the warrenty and service stores........As moto has very very limited authorised stores, customers have to face difficulty in order to claim warrenty whenever needed.
* How can we rely on Moto *
Pls share your comment ranjith Sir
Thanks sir, Was just waiting for ur review. I was in dilemma. Gonna definitely buy dis.❤

just ordered the phone now
Hey @geekyranjit, camera2 api module is disabled in edge 40? Have you rooted to install gcam?
Eagerly Waiting to receive my unit
Is there any screen protection on the phone like corning Gorilla glass or any other since its a curved poled display
Hi Ranjit,
Why do you use Airtel as your primary SIM and why not Jio?
My mom has a G62 phone and I checked with Jio and Airtel both. I think the network reception was better on Airtel then Jio on Moto G62 5G.
Thank you boss for your videos😊
Sir pls reply... WHEN WILL THE PHONE BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE, IT HAS BEEN NOT AVAILABLE SINCE 29TH.
Ranjit, which variant is better for long run, the leather back or the plastic back which i thought was glass.
