this video is really impressive and informative, nice job! however, i can’t help but wonder if the portrayal of these War Dogs might be a bit overly glorified. i mean, while they were certainly brave and skilled, it feels like we might be romanticizing their role in such brutal conflicts. what do you all think?
Yes they came from Alexander’s successors that what’s held hostage phyrros Alexander the Great cousin from his mother side they gave phyrros elephants and he landed in southern Italy and fought against the romans. This was the first elephants were seen in Europe where Alexander’s troops and successors fought against them in India and defeated them . And a big correction Epirus is in north western Greece and not Albania !!!!
as another commenter has already commented, but where did the elephant come from ?? i heard that hannibal was the first to bring modern elephants (african elephants of a now extinct genus) to europe, HOWEVER his time was 117 bc ?? ALEXANDERS SUCCESSORS also used elephants extensively during the wars of the successors so my memory recalls that mayhap some made it to greece. a mystery indeed.
@@homebrandrules thanks, merry early to you too. Favorite? I would say easy number 1 alexander, the rest are kind of hard to rank for me. I will give you a list of people I like: Sargon the great of Akkad, Ashurnasirpal of Assyria and Ashurbanipal, Cyrus the Great, Lysimachus, Seleucus, Ptolemy generals of Alexander, Pyrrhus of Epirus, Hannibal, Antiochus the Great, Julius Caesar, Augustus, Trajan, Marcus Aurelius, Aurelian.
Albania has Molosian Dog and the Albanian Shepherd Dog. Two of the best Dogs ever exist in Albania still now. The only dog that can kill a wolf. 🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱
Epirus is still Albanian it has allways been Albanian land so as entire modern Greece. Greku comes from Asia Minor they not Native Europians like Albanian's Are. 🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱
Nice, didnt know about Peritas dog.

Love war dog's
They were really quite impressive
Great video as always but can someone explain where the elephant in Epirus came from??😁
Your guess is as good as mine! I'm sure someone has more knowledge than me of elephantine logistics in the Hellenistic age
Probably got it from North Africa, like the Romans and Carthaginians did.

Actually Hannibal was around in the 200s. He invaded italy in 218bc

@@homebrandrules if I had to rank them as the best would also be hard but maybe: 1st Alexander, 2nd Caesar, 3rd Augustus. But you could change it.
Oh, I also really like germanicus, a great what if story.
