    Second time I've watched this and enjoyed it even more the second time. Inbetween the two watches, I've seen footage of the early years Damned, maybe in San Francisco '79, a great raw energy old school punk gig but with the bonus of Rat and Captain even swapping instruments. Rat on guitar, Mr. Sensible on drums. So this time I appreciated Rat talking about playing chords/guitar because he can. Talented guy. Great interview this.

    Brilliant interview so nice to hear someone say how shit it is about tribute bands & bloke doing interview doesn't understand when he said fake lemmy was putting warts on if you listened to Rat who i agree with 100% about so called tribute bands Motorheadache should of been on first not headlining over bands that take time to write own stuff, rehearse etc sad, i think its same as all these 80's punk bands that had a name & reform for FARCE fest(rebellion) get put up on main stage they never got that big originally they should earn their place again bands in scene Now are ones that should be on main stage /higher than reformed bands.

    Met Rat back in the Ipswich dome back in 1992,a genuine bloke.The damned were among three bands that were cursed of the “Brian’s”.Were the damned the same when Brian James left?,as the lads said earlier was the Rolling Stones the same when Brian Jones left and also you could say were the Cramps the same when Brian Gregory left??.

    • @written12
      @written12 3 роки тому +1

      Good point. But the Damned, when Brian James, became a different but definitely not a lesser band.
      And despite the aura around Brian Jones, he was becoming marginal to the Stones music way before he died.

    It was the Portobello Gold the Hells Angels local that Lemmy used to play the fruit machine all day, the Lonsdale was opposite the Gold.
    I got kicked out of the Lonsdale (my local) on my 18th birthday because I had just freshly died my hair and the landlord was worried he was going to get raided but they let me back in the next night. I had only been a local for about two years!

    I've not watched it all yet, but I'm enjoying this. It's like a chat rather rather than an interview, and all the more interesting for it. I came because I was looking for a connection between Rat Scabies and an all-female Japanese punkish band called The Let's Go's (ua-cam.com/video/o7boTXBbGpQ/v-deo.html) and the card outer spine on one of their CDs makes some reference to "Rat Scabies (drum) The Damned", and the google search brought this video up. The only musician I've actually spoken to was Kenney Jones of The Small Faces and The Who, but he was incredibly drunk when I met him, and was quite miffed that I couldn't guess who he was. Oddly I also once ended up stood next to him on the bus going to the car park at Gatwick Airport a few years later, but this time he was sober, and didn't ask me to guess his identity - which is a shame because that time I'd have known. edit: it turns out The Mutants did an album with various J-Punk bands guesting on the tracks, and The Let's Go's were one of those.

    I went to see one of the Scabies & James gigs in the same week as the Damned played and to me and my mate who came with me to both gigs, it was clear to us both that Scabies & James blew the Damned away, they played with intensity and power that Sensible and Vanian could hope to match. And I love the Damned and go to see them as often as possible, I've been going to see them live for more than 40 years (it feels mad reading how long I've been going to see them).
