I can just picture that costume design production meeting, "the suit is missing something that'll really strike fear in the enemies. I know, it needs some nipples".
TheoKabala89 Yeah...Schumacher's tried to use the excuse that he was trying to tie Batman's costume with the architecture and statues that you see all over the place in the movie. Sounded like crap then and it sounds worse now.
***** I saw no nipples or anything resembling nipples on any building, statue or otherwise in the film.
TheoKabala89 He said he molded the suits from statue molds.
TheoKabala89 Austin Powers fembots did it better.
+TheoKabala89 Admit it. If a man ran at you in a leather nipple suit, you'd be a bitscared.
Batman and Robin. I can't be angry at this movie. Schumacher has apologized, Clooney has apologized.
It now exists only as a hilarious part of film history.
Paulie The problem is, they didn't advertise it as a comedy film. If they did, it'd have been an international success with a critical acclaim.
/s
That's what makes it hilarious. It's unintentional comedy lol
Oh yeah this is the one egg that had to be broken in order to make that omelette
***** and in turn if Begins had never existed we would never have gotten the epic masterpiece which was The Dark Knight :)
Sam Green Is it really an epic masterpiece if the movie is riddled with plotholes?
I loved the Hugh Laurie contribution: "...because the biggest enemy these days is apathy and people that do not care"
Funny because it's true
BOTH kinds of people.
no, people care A LOT about the wrong things
I care about many franchises
but they just keeps being destroyed....
That’s the entire plot of the movie they were promoting.
I dont know why George felt the need to apologize he is a great actor and he made the best of what he had to work with in that disaster. Still a guilty pleasure to watch
😇😇😇
agree he's still a great actor just bad directing
his acting was atrocious
If you destroy the role of Batman then you should apologise no matter how big an actor you are
@@amarson2322 Why would say that about George Clooney since he won some awards and accolades for his acting work, like "Syriana," for instance. Your comment is pathetic!
Let's not forget the fact that Bob Kane died after Batman and Robin was released. That means this was the last Batman film he ever watched in his life. God rest that poor man's soul
+Pujashree Sharma Lmao, thank you for this comment. Laughed more than I should've!
Bill Finger created Batman, not Bob Kane.
They both did. Bob Kane was the one who came up with the concept of Batman and Bill Finger was the one who further developed and helped create the character.
Well, really, Bob Kane came up with the name "Bat-Man," and Bill Finger came up with... everything else, basically. Kinda similar to how Stan Lee came up with the name "Spider-Man," and Steve Ditko came up with... everything else.
The film actually killed him.
"What killed the dinosaurs? The Ice Age!"
+EZJaeger WUT KIELLED DE DIANASARZ? DE AIZE AJE!
+EZJaeger It's funny because the Ice Age didn't kill the dinosaurs. No one thinks that. Except Joel Schumacher.
+Krshwunk and Mr. Freeze
+EZJaeger vat keeled ze dinOzaurs...ze icen agen!
+EZJaeger Alright Everybody! Chill!
I could just sit around for hours listening to George talk about himself...what a guy.
Unfortunately so could he!
Funny he is back as Batman now! Anyone here after The Flash movie?
Me
What did you yhink?
@@daveatkin7557 kinda sceptical as to how George would carry on with the role but again DC has proved that under a good director things can change for good
cringe
"I always apologize for Batman&Robin" HAHAHHAHA! He was a really good Bruce Wayne though.
I preferred Val Kilmer lol I thought he was the best, Michael Keaton and George Clooney are in a tie for second... still no one can quite outdo the brilliance or genius of Adam West hahaha!!
Nobody beats Kevin Conroy.
That grandfather/dad next door image and his annoying antics say NO. Clooney just can't be a hero type.
JOSH46 Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, Adam West, Val Kilmer, George Clooney.
MK, CB, AW, VK and GC is indeed the correct answer, you go to the finals where you can compete for a real batmobile! :)
That impersonation of Joel Schumacher Clooney does is spot on.
Seen him interviewed.
His Joel Schumacher impression killed me😂🤣
Oh my god the Joel Schumacher impression had me rolling lmao
I think he was the worst Batman but one of the best Bruce Wayne's
He wasnt playing bruce wayne. He was just playing george clooney
the fat bat
His face is like the perfect Bruce Wayne face. Nice chin and everything !
Hence why Ben affleck was *aslo* good as Mr.Wayne.
Clooney was a good public Bruce Wayne, Kilmer was a good private Bruce Wayne, Keaton was a good Batman. Put them all together and you have the perfect Batman. Or just hire Ben Affleck who managed to get all three roles working well.
honestly, George Clooney, under the right director, would be one of the best Batman ever.
bring Clooney back as the Joker.
Possibly, but his performance in that film was to terrible to redeem him.
too*
No. Just. No.
One last time so you understand this, NO.
That's true, he certainly has the look and acting chops
It was great to see George Clooney in the Flash at the end. That was shocking.
I honestly love Batman & Robin. It's cheesy, it's terrible, it's amazing. That and Batman Forever are my childhood.
So much better than Michael Keatons batman which I watched last night.
@@JamesZero How can you say something so criminal?
@@fleeg3064 i know right Keaton is the MAN he's my favorite Batman
@@rolandofgilead43 Keaton was a great Batman and also did really well as Bruce Wayne! Batman as a movie though.....I enjoyed the first a fair bit but only at the half way point did I really get into it. The second one? It's runner-up for the most boring superhero movie I've ever seen. Doesn't help that neither Batman nor Bruce Wayne make an appearance (outside of the opening attack which lasts a whopping 5 minutes I believe) for almost half the runtime.
I wouldn’t say “terrible”, but everything else is right. Especially with the way DC fans whine about current DC material being “too dark”.
A BAT CREDIT CARD?!
CaptainGrumpyNO! No! Does not compute! [Angry screaming in the background]
CaptainGrumpy never leave the cave without it!
The image of Capaldi makes this comment perfect xD
I know nostalgia critic said it, but your picture of capaldi, imagining him saying it is just hilarious
CaptainGrumpy followed by a string of profanities, with an added "-ity" at the end.
Haha one of the best wtf moments of my childhood was batman and robin
Woowww what a surprise to find your comment here. I listen to all your podcasts bro! They are awesome.
Wow! This really is you!
Within the first minute of that movie it was wtf with the convertible batmobile! That was before anything else and it went further downhill throughout the rest of the entire movie!
The biggest wtf moment for me was seeing Batman make a $7 million bid on somebody... with his own Bat-credit card!
I watched it like 50 times as a kid. I LOVED it. Then, 20+ years later, my husband and I thought we’d get some fun nostalgia and watch it and we couldn’t get past the first 20 minutes. 🤣😬🤦🏼♀️
The Flash end credits scene... 😂
I'll never accept that apology.
Clooney did everything in his power to deliver a great Batman and his scenes, the "I Love You" to Alfred, the Control Freak taking control of Robin's gear in the pursuit and the "Vengeance isn't power" scene are peak Batman scenes of all time.
The failure of the movie is Warner's fault, how it buried genius scenes under all those ridiculous ideas it's not on Schumacher and the cast.
it's still so wierd hearing House talking in his real accent
+Dr. Dhoom it sounds COMPLETELY different, wtf are you talking about.
+Dr. Dhoom funny thing is for us brits it still sounds strange hearing him put on an American accent.
+Dr. Dhoom even though there are countless dialects in the uk?
And your clearly uneducated
+Neil Lewis I love how you call someone uneducated, but then use the wrong form of your/you're.
He is real life Bruce Wayne.
Sir'Quentin Ross naa christian bale is.
***** what were ben's downs? he kicks ass .. weel ,except for daredevil !
***** "saved lives"
Who has Affleck saved..?
TheSilverstang66 That would be Elon Musk, if he weren't already Iron Man.
TheSilverstang66 who the hell is "liking" this comment and why? He said himself that movie was trash, how is he the real life Bruce Wayne, am I missing something?
Anyone here after that Flash cameo?😂
Me lol
Hell yes I recognise him instantly !!!
😂
Grew up watching it, still enjoy it till this day.
If Marvel ever gets the Fantastic Four movie rights back, I'd love Clooney to "redeem" himself by playing Reed Richards...
He is too old to be Reed Richards
+Richard Gonzalez How about like Maybe Older F4? Kinda like around 40 years like this new Batfleck
+Richard Gonzalez An alternate version of this caracter would be cool :0
+Damian Wayne a different version of reed... A FUTURE REED!
Good idea
"So you apologized for Batman while you were there?" ... "No matter where I am, I apologize for Batman." ... LOL, George. Well played, sir.
I think he's had practice with that line before...probably for about twenty five years of interviews.
Now this is a man with dignity and humility.
I'M HERR AFTER JOEL SCHUMACHER JUST PASSED AWAY. REST IN PEACE SIR 😢
R.I.P though he did create the worst batman ever to exist in history.
No need apologize.. they love it now
I feel like with the right script clooney would have been a great batman/bruce wayne
What? Bruce Wayne is Batman?!!!
Actually, Batman is Bruce Wayne
Batwayne
BruceMan
Royal Knight wayne kar
I still want my Bat credit card.
+TheoKabala89 I want my money back.
I want my two hours back.
Pujashree Sharma Hey, that's super(!)
@@PujashreeSharma Sadly, Justice Leagues was bad enough.
Well DC makes actual credit cards i of course it will be visa it's just the print on the front and back would be batman/you can choose other superheroes too.
I literally yelled “WHAT?!” in the theater.
“Somebody else brought it back” put some respect on Christopher Nolan’s name
Who?
Lol
Nolan is God of Cinema
Animated series. JLAU
The Nolan fanboys are very tiresome.
If your kids have been misbehaving make them watch batman and robin
Harsh, dude. Poor kids.
I used to properly like the to when I was younger.
ye tim Burtons ones there creepy
Jonah Jameson I want them to learn a lesson not scar them for life
Your profile picture just makes your comment even funnier.
It's actually good that Schumacher killed the batman franchise because then we wouldn't have the dark knight trilogy
Not a lot of people realize a lot of Schumacher's ideas for a new Batman movie turned up in Batman Begins.
2:40 That's actually a pretty good Joel Schumacher impression
George Clooney didn’t ruin Batman....Joel Shumacher did
The man just passed away. Have some respect.
And hey at least WB understood their biggest mistake and hired legendary director, Christopher Nolan to direct and create a beautiful trilogy thatll become a classic like the BURTON films, aka The Dark Knight Trilogy
No, Warner Bros ruined it themselves, Joel Schumacher actually wanted to make a dark Batman movie, but Waner Bros said "No!" and forced him to make 2 hour toy ads. Heck, before Batman & Robin was released, he wanted to make a third Batman film that would be more darker, and he even said he wanted to give fans "a real Batman movie".
al112v5 you gotta be able to call a spade a spade. That’s what’s wrong with the world these days. Too sensitive.
😇😇😇
Joel Schumacher made the movie.
I thought that Clooney was a great fit for Bruce Wayne.
Chris Purolover His performance was terrible in that movie just like everyone else in it. Don't try to defend him(i love him by the way).
Chris Purolover He did read the awful script, didn't he? He memorized the horrid dialogue lines, didn't he? He's a part of the failure that movie was.
The Dark Knight You don't seem to get what I'm saying, do you?
The Dark Knight I agree w/Chris and Speed. Even a great script can be wrecked by bad direction and/or production, and the worst scripts can actually look not quite so bad on page, but clearly be horrid when being acted out, a sort of a "that sounded better in my head" sort of thing.
Admittedly, dialogue is pretty clearly what it is on page or on stage, from what I've seen, but who expected good dialogue from a comics movie back in those days, before the serious comics flicks started happening? People expected flash and sound and fury and color, not Kant, Nietzsche, Lao Tzu, or Socrates out of these things, back in the day. OtOH. . . Bat credit card. . But again. . ppl, especially those who were NOT fans, might have expected Adam West style camp.
Riddle me this: What is a bad Batflick when it lacks rubber Batnipples? Answer: not THAT bad a batflick. I doubt the script contained THAT element as a warning flag.
CliventheTraveller Still maintain that had the script, vision and direction been right, had the producers not smeared their paw prints all over this movie, Clooney would have been the best Batman of all and would have played in at least two further sequels. Clooney looks like Batman and if they can make pint sized Keaton look passable in a Batman consume, they would have done the same for George, an actor whose ability far surpasses Keaton. He's a better actor than Affleck, Bale and Keaton. He has a superb range. Picture this: Tarantino directing Clooney as Batman for which he's also written the script. I think you can see what I mean.
It's Joel Schumachers fault. He is the one who destroyed Batman. George shouldn't be blaming himself.
Suspect It's not solely his fault. A big budget film like Batman and Robin's downfall can't be depended on only one person. Schumacher is a great director, but he surely didn't handle the project well. But I would also put blame on the writer, among many others.
Stroya Actually, the fault came from studio pressure, not Schumacher. Schumacher actually wanted to make dark Batman movies but the studio forced him to make the movies family friendly
Again, it's not solely one source to blame, it's a mix of things.
Stroya True enough, though I'd still argue the bulk goes to the studio itself
Pretty much yeah.
"I thought it was going to be a good career move, it wasn't"
Well, not anymore, now it's finally paying off...
It’s BEEN paying off!
Let's just once again appreciate Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale
If it wasnt for those two franchise was done
Born in 1989, I’m more excited about Keaton returning as Batman this year.
I prefer Burton and Keaton, especially Keaton. No one's come close to his performance as Wayne/Batman.
Now we have Battinson, arguably the best Batman version on cinema
Nope I'm sticking to Joel Schumacher's films.
Mr Clooney it isn't your fault. Blame Joel Schumacher. George Clooney just did what he was told.
Edit: Ok, fine.... Blame the studio too. =)
5
+mSue Mcconnell shut up. 6, obviously
Blame Warner Brothers for putting toy sales over script quality.
pesnfs go a step further and blame wb for telling Schumacher to make batman goofier.
It's a shame though. He would've made a charming Bruce Wayne.
Best line ever said in Hollywood history was "I always apologize for Batman and Robin"
He’s back 🔥🔥🔥
Wish we could have gotten him in a batman suit again like a modernish one
George Clooney seems like a nice person :)
***** he's got tons of charisma
I know, I don't see why Francine Smith hates him
***** I've met George Clooney (among other actors) and he is legit one of the most humble, nicest actors out there. I am not really a fan of his movies but he deserves his success IMO.
+Agnessa92 Exactly. I've never thought that he'd be such a hilarious man...
+Haftor Smari beat me to it
That was very humble (and funny) of him, gotta love George Clooney
I usually don't like George Clooney that much, but in this interview he's so funny and genuine! Really good video 😁
1:51 I love Britts reaction is basically “yeah George it was bad”
Hugh Laurie is amazing.
Je Moeder Games JMG and George is even more awesome
Je Moeder Games JMG No. And even more no.
Lord Dia Celium, chauffeur de taxis d'Imhotep Why not?
Je Moeder Games JMG Because no
House!!!!!
We need a short skit with the likes of Clooney, Bale, Keaton, Affleck, and Kilmer all dressed up in their suits just having a go at each other with a good roast. I would love it
edit: I'd say Adam West too, but he's almost 90 and probably wouldn't be arsed to do it xD
tbh he is doing a new animated film
Adam West as Family Guy Adam West Batman would be great
Cody Gallagher kilmer wouldn't be able to fit in his suit
Adam West has been on the Simpsons playing himself bragging about being the best Batman. He was doing the batusi. In cartoon form :)
It would be a blast. Tim Daly did one about the various Supermans. It was him, Dean Cain & Brandon Routh giving Tim's son advice on how to play Superman the right way. It was hilarious. It's on UA-cam somewhere.
Now it's time to fix it, Clooney. Prove those haters wrong.
He just did!
I know. And no. Cameo doesn't count. Fix it as the whole solo movie.
@@bart7427 it counted for Routh as Superman on The CW. It counts here, too.
@@onlyone23km no.
@@bart7427 yes.
Rest In Peace Joel. Hopefully people can overlook this movie and look at the rest of his life’s work which was quite impressive.
Just look at Batman & Robin as a reboot of the Adam West 60's series and it becomes infinitely better.
Batman 1989and Batman Returns were based off the Batman comic books of the 80s. Batman Forever was based off Batman in the seventies and 40s. And Batman and Robin was based off the 60s because parents thought Tim Burton was making the movies too dark so Joel Schumacher was he has to tone it down and make it more family-friendly. George Clooney was actually the perfect updated Adam West version of Batman. That's what he was meant to be.
Batman Forever and Batman and Robin are more like movies for the kids, who want to collect their toys in lego or mc donalds...at least when i was 10 years old and watched this movie, it felt right to me. From a little kids pov, not for the grown mature batman fans of course. But would i show it to my kids? Absolutly
@@P3rm4frost I find the whole hate thing funny considering Batman was created for kids in the first place. haha
@@JG1570 God bless Tim Burton.
@@ricksterdrummer2170 Actually, the comics were more for young adults. Tie ins for product merchandise is more for kids, young adults don't tend to go for happy meals after a certain point.
That fucking Schumacher impersonation lmao!
Already redeemed himself with The Flash cameo
Later Aquaman 2 and possibly Batman Beyond
If anyone had to apologize for that horrible movie, it should be Joel Schumacher and the guy who designed that suit. Clooney was a perfect choice for Batman/ Bruce Wayne
Joel Schumacher can't be solely responsible for the disaster. It was WB who pressured him to make the film kid friendly since the parents hated Tim Burton's movies for being dark. Joel has mentioned many times he wanted to make Batman movie closer to Frank Miller. WB put toy sales over film quality.
@@seanparker3756 I’m starting to think Batman Returns is what started the American feminazi movement. My parents showed me the movie when I was 6. It was dark yes, but it was a family movie no scarier than Harry Potter.
@@ricksterdrummer2170 I don't think it made much of a cultural impact. It was a bit darker but also weirder and sillier, and of course made much less than the original, which was impossible to follow. The fact it made so much less was why WB panicked.
I was very young when I first watched Batman and Robin and I must say as I kid I loved it! It's only as you get older you realise how ridiculous a lot of it is! I think you got to take it for what it is, a bit of fun and oh so very 90s! Although if you want a child friendly Batman I'd possibly recommend Batman: The Movie with Adam West before Batman and Robin.
Hey Freeze, the heat is on.
This hits different after The Flash.
HE’S BACK AS BATMAN!
Very happy hope to see him
Make a strong comeback🔥😂
Loved his scene in the flash
Watched the flash and let’s just say good cameo George lol 😂
Cant believe he was at the end of THE FLASH i literally laughed out loud and i don't understand why people leave the theater before a end credit scene happens was a surprise and i avoided knowing it before hand so funny
This wasn't the end credit though. The end credit was aquaman
I literally yelled “WHAT?!” in the theater.
George Clooney is unironically one of my top 3 Batmans. No regrets.
"This is why Superman works alone."
LMAO @ that Shoomaaaker impression though
1:37. I like how George look at the audience first
I love how when everyone in the show ever, period, keeps their wine glass on the table ; George just chills with it beside him
George Clooney should play Joel Schumacher in a biopic about the making of Batman & Robin! 😂
Dude, yes. especially since more people are interested in the behind the scenes and history of the film than the film itself.
i hope someone writes a blacklist script about the making of batman & robin
That would be awesome!
Everyone should watch the Cinemasins on Batman and Robin here on youtube. It's freaking hilarious.
And of course, Nostalgia Critic. It's awesome! :D

RIP and long live Joel Schumacher (August 29, 1939 - June 22, 2020), aged 80
You will always be remembered as a legend.
His cameo in flash made up for it.
Clooney had nothing to do with ruining the franchise. As Kevin Smith has said, he could actually play an amazing older Bruce Wayne if they tried doing a legit Frank Miller/Dark Knight Returns film at some point.
Both Clooney and Schumacher have apologized. I'm over my Schumacher hatred. The guy has made a lot of films that I like...he's far from a hack.
If anything, I blame Warner Brothers' greed. They wanted a toy-friendly kiddie franchise, and ran that shit straight into the ground.
"actually"
1:50 that little nod by the lady besides george is hilarious
Without Clooney we wouldn't have gotten Batman Begins and we wouldn't have gotten The Dark Knight.
For me, Batman and Robin was never bad. George Clooney is acting in a somewhat contrived way This is in all his films, but the story and action were good

I do not understand what's so bad about it?
Jes it's more colorful then the 1990 batman movies and way over the top with the jokes.
But I personally liked it, it felt refreshing and fun to watch.
The Gothic people got the dark knight afterwards so everyone can be happy.

I love that as much as George Clooney regrets doing Batman and Robin and concedes that it was a disaster, he had nothing but positive things to say about Joel Schumacher even as he was making fun of his directing style in this interview.
I’m sorry but George Clooney as Batman was my very first live action Batman interpretation I’ve ever seen, and in my eyes he was the best one and my favorite one to this day.
Me too, my first Batman seen in a film. A VHS for my birthday
No need to apologize. Batmen are like James Bonds. The one you see when you're a kid tends to be your favorite. My favorite James Bond as a kid was Roger Moore, by all accounts one of the worst Bonds but he's still my favorite. People like what they like.
The problem wasn't George. The problem weren't the costumes or the acting. The problem was the script. Bad Bad BAAAAD script.
