I am making engagement ring at the moment. I have less than two weeks to finish it. Now I decided I need to build this box too. Hope I can get it all done in time. Thanks.
I just can’t even. This was brilliant! I love it, so much! I definitely want to make my next set of boxes similar with magnets. That leather pillow idea was exquisite!
These are fantastic! I like the trick of two forstner bits. I think I might have just used a small piece of felt in the top hole, since the bottom hole is concealed from the leather. I love the leather roll trick! Great job explaining it all!
Might sound like a silly question... how did you get the 2nd forsner bit to be flat to remove the pin hole it leaves? I've made candle holders and would love to remove this :)
@@bencetoth5516 It was already fixtured up, so no additional effort unlike having to use two separate drilling operations manually. I am guessing that since he was new to the CAD program, he didn't want to take the time to learn how to make the tool paths for the pockets.
I probably wouldn't have taken on the commission honestly. The client was adamant about them being perfect cubes and we only had so much material. I would've probably charged more for it and been a lot more stressed out haha.
On beautifully grained hardwood like that, I like to sand up to 12000 with Micromesh, and simply finish it with Camellia oil. It's something I use on the dip pens and oblique dip pens I occasionally make, and the feel in the hand is amazing. I don't see many videos where Camellia oil is used, and I wonder if it's something that's just not popular or desired for whatever reason.Beautiful work!Cheers
I love the rolled-up leather for the ring holder, years ago I made a box like this for my friend's wedding and rounded a piece of walnut in the lathe and cut that into 2 sections to kinda take up space. It worked but it never sat well with me as a good solution.
It comes standard with the jointer and is typically referred to as a "European Style Guard." On the other hand, the western or American style is the "Porkchop Style Guard".
What kind of magnets are these and where can I buy them? I want to make my own engagement ring box for my gf. I’m about to pop the question and I want to make it myself so I need help finding the right parts.
Those turned out fantastic John! 👍🏻 You did a great job because they are so small... and the magnet trick was awesome! Bet your client really like them? Thank you for sharing!
I use styrofoam cut to shape with a groove cut down the center to hold the ring. Cover with soft fabric using spray adhesive. Works everytime and it fits perfectly.
The client supplied them so I don't know exactly where they're from but there are plenty of online dealers for this type of stuff. Searching for the wood species + "turning blank" may help as well. The species are curly koa, Brazilian rosewood, desert ironwood, and redwood (amboyna) burl.
Yes, I considered doing it all with the CNC. However, the holes the CNC drilled were too loose of a fit with my magnets. Instead of fiddling with the CNC settings and end mills, I decided to use an 1/8" brad point bit which gave me the fit I needed.

Would you provide a link to the magnets you used in this project please?
Lovely work, required extreme precision and little room for error. Perfectly engineered.
Winner, winner. 👍👍
Mind blowingly beautiful! Having such a demanding client would make me a nervous wreck.
Really nice work!
Thanks for sharing dude, much appreciated.
I love the wood selection. The color contrast and patterns were stunning!
Nice job. Learned a lot. Thanks
Oh man, these are really beautiful! I love all the grain! Well done!
Thanks a lot Jolien!
Lovely boxes.
Great tip with the forstner bits … one of those “oh, yeah, it’s really obvious … now” moments.
wow so creative. . I really want to learn clever like you
Creativity!
Good job ✌️from India 🇮🇳

Nice work
Dope project!👍🏾

Very clever
Very cool wood cpl I've never heard of really nice boxes! And @4:27 thts a good tip using 2 forstner bits gonna do that from now on when needed!👍🏻
Thanks Joe!
Nice job, thanks for the video. Cheers, David.
Big thumbs up
Wow, beautiful work as usual :)
Thank you!
good
It looks so lovely. Cute too.....
У тебя станок с чпу и ты сверлишь отверстия под магниты и выборку ручным станком? Зачем тогда тебе чпу?
Great looking boxes 👍
These boxes are absolutely beautiful! I loved them!
perfect!
Do you sell these to individuals or jewelry stores? How did you develop the market??
This was a one-off project requested by the customer. I did also make a larger version for a bracelet for that same customer.
Step 1: purchase a jointer, a drum sander, and a cnc machine.
Step 2: Cry
This project could have been done entirely with a bandsaw and a drill press
The boxes turned out fantastic - great work! And those needle-tip applicators for StarBond have saved me a few times.
Nice design....
Love it! TNX for sharing. Can you tell me please the size of the boxes?
They are 1.5" x 1.5" x 1.5".
Great solution for the ring pillows ! I'm filing that one away for future use ! Thanks for the tips and the video !!
Thank you!
Beatiful❤
Wow, that is a beautiful box. BTW, what brand of double side tape you used?
Thank you! On amazon it’s called “xfasten double sided tape” and I use the 3/4” wide version.
@@parillaworks thank you!
Beautiful work and I love the tip about the forstner bits!
Thanks Ian!
Thanks for the smiley face!
I dig it.
Simply stunning... I'm speaking of the cnc router. Sorry. I'm not sorry. What kind of cnc is it?
Shapeoko XXL
AWESOME! is there a link for the magnets?
Those came out great! Just curious why you didn't mill out the circular cavities with the router?
That would take much more time and affort than, simply drill it.

beautiful piece of work.
Why use a drill press why didn’t you let the CNC cut out the inner holes?
The drill bit gave a better fit with the magnet compared to the router bit I had on hand.
what were the magnets you used?
BOA TARDE.
TOP DAS GALAXIAS
what would you do if you had no CNC?
I probably wouldn't have taken on the commission honestly. The client was adamant about them being perfect cubes and we only had so much material. I would've probably charged more for it and been a lot more stressed out haha.
Nice! They have a slight medieval look to them...

Thank you!! Ya, the inside has always been the weak point of these boxes, in terms of design. But this solution is the one I like most so far.
What’s the name of the Forstner bit that won’t leave the hole in the bottom? Where can I get one of those?
I bought an extra of that size and ground the spur off myself. I don’t think they’re sold this way.
@@parillaworks awesome! Great to know! Thank you so much for responding! Your ring boxes are beautiful! Trying to learn how to do these myself..
did that arm on the jointer @0:12 come with your jointer or was it an add on? I have a really old jointer and that looks useful to have.
It comes standard with the jointer and is typically referred to as a "European Style Guard." On the other hand, the western or American style is the "Porkchop Style Guard".
@@parillaworks oh ok thanks for the reply I'll have to look them up.
Good job 😀

These ones were 1/8” x 1/4” cylinder rare earth magnets. Either n52 I think.
@@parillaworks I’m wondering two things. Why two different sizes and what’s the length of these? Or are they all same length ?
@@eladsinay6914 The diameter is 1/8” and the length is 1/4”.

Thanks a lot Bill! I just shipped them out today, so we'll see!
What glue did you use to lock the dowell magnets in with?
He mentions CA glue, or any super glue
I want 3 please
May I know what type of magnet is that?
Same?!
I use styrofoam cut to shape with a groove cut down the center to hold the ring. Cover with soft fabric using spray adhesive. Works everytime and it fits perfectly.
That's a great idea. I don't really like spray adhesive but I'll give that try next time I'm tinkering.
What are those names of the wood you used and where are they available

Make sure you dont use the same ends ( north north or south south) when installing your magnets....just a little friendly reminder is all....
Sweet!
Turned out great! The CNC worked really well for that project. Who is the manufacturer of your CNC?
Thanks Preston. It’s a Shapeoko XXL by Carbide3D.
Could you have done everything at CNC, and drilled with Foster drill? I did not understand.
Yes, I considered doing it all with the CNC. However, the holes the CNC drilled were too loose of a fit with my magnets. Instead of fiddling with the CNC settings and end mills, I decided to use an 1/8" brad point bit which gave me the fit I needed.
Nice job, what end mill did you use?
Thanks Darren. This one was bit 46225 by Amana tools. I got it from tools today though. It's an 1/8" downcut bit but has a 1/4" shank.
👍👌👏
what is the ring hole dia?
1.125"
first! lol great job@
Thanks Brock!
I really like the woodglut plans.
