    Hi there, thanks for the lessons, very useful.
    I've got one question or suggestion : you focus a lot about on the pronounciation of letters but what probably amazed me the most in the UK when I travelled there is the muscality of the British accent. As a French speaker myself, I found French much more flat in that matter. To put an example, the English tends to reach very high "notes" especially when they ask questions or express their surprise. "Oh ? Really ? How funny you are !"
    Best regards
    Raoul

    Love and appreciate your effort devoted with these videos. I noticed the speaker(a hunk, no that what I'm about to say is related to, anyway...) mentioned a point that southern England accent does not always have "A" with the /ā/ sound, sometimes with the /æ/ sound. While the northern England accent pronounce all "A" with the /ā/ sound. What is the pronunciation like regarding to this aspect in Midlands? West and east. What about Birmingham?

    Hi Aly, I've been watching Thomas Sangster, Millie Bobby Brown, n Benedict Cumberbatch, bcs I want to imitate the accent of one of spesific british persons. But the 3 of them have their own style n it makes me confused. I think Ben's accent is the most difficult to catch, n Mill's is the easiest. What makes them so different? N what should I do? Should I focus on 1 person only? Thank you.

    Do consonants become slightly duller in the british accent, for example, 'much better' sounds like [mʌʧ 'petə] instead of [mʌʧ 'betə]. And, by the way, what about connecting sounds, for example, the sound [j] in the phrase the end [ðɪjend]?

    Hi, thank you for such a great video. I've been learning American English for more than 10 years. But I'm learning British accent recently because I'm going to study in London this year. Like you mentioned about the "A" sound which is the most important when it comes to British accent. I've been struggling with "Ah" and "Arh" because the American pronunciation seems to influence on my pronunciation a lot. Could you please make another video providing some tips to memorize or distinguish the "Ah" and "Arh" sounds? Your advice and help would be highly appreciated! Thank you:)

    Hi! I've got a question related to what you said about posh people pronouncing kind of "rih-lly" instead of "reee-lly" when they say "really". Maybe I'm mixing those two sounds with one more but, would they pronounce "beach" and "bitch" the same way, then?

    • @papateachme
      @papateachme  9 років тому

      Good question! Actually it's only when the "ee" sound is at the end of the word. Not the middle. For example bitch and beach are pronounced how they should be. But if for example you said "bitchy" it could sound like "bitch-ih" ... If that makes sense?

    Also (and I'm sorry for spamming your channel with comments), is there a rule of thumb for knowing when to use the ah/a sound as in the last point in this video? I think that's why so many Americans have such difficulty with English accents. To me, at least, it seems like there's no rhyme or reason for choosing one sound over the other. Like, why would someone say "can" as in "hand" but "can't" as in...uh, like the philosopher Kant?

      +Amanda S it's to do with a thing called the "trap bath split". I'm making a new video about it soon 😉
