The Littlefinger Rulebook: #1 In order to get people to do what *you* want, you must first know what *they* want. #2 Confuse your enemies, and hide your motives. #3 Plant seeds. People are much more likely to go along with what you want, if they think it's their own idea, rather than a suggestion from you. #4 No loose ends. #5 Always choose the catspaw best suited to the task. #6 Know how the players are, who the pieces are, and most importantly: don't trust anyone [but DO trust them to act in their own self-interest]. #7 Have friends, but be discreet about it. #8 Always appear to be friendly and helpful. #9 Keep your distance and your hands clean. #10 Hidden daggers are more dangerous than visible ones.
tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if it were Littlefinger who planted the seed of the whole incest thing in Jon Arryn's head. This man is a master of the game.
IMO Jon Arryn was a casualty of the chess game between Varys and Littlefinger. Varys likely tipped him off to Cersei’s secret and/or suggested Robert be raised by Stannis (lawful/competent/loves kids) rather than Littlefinger’s psychotic ‘catspaw’ Lysa, only for Petyr to respond by having her poison her husband, and telling Cersei that Arryn had discovered "the truth" so that she is in his debt.
also wanted to add the bits where 3 separate characters did not recognize Ned. Arya (as he was being beheaded), Sansa (when his head was on a spike), and even Catelyn (who claimed the bones of Ned were too small). Seems interesting that all 3 characters made that observation and I also always found it interesting that Martin wouldn't have put us inside Ned's head in his last moments.
All three were emotionally distressed, and not the best eyewitnesses. Ned is either dead or a pigeon. Cersei isn't being shat on, so I have to assume he's dead.
beamerball666 I think we're starting to discover that he may actually be the single most dangerous man in Westeros. At least I can't think of someone with a kill count even close to his, the war of the five kingdoms being what it is.
To be fair, some of that was on Cat. Cat really handcuffed Ned, both by forcing Baelish on Ned and later by arresting Tyrion on unsubstantiated charges. (and then losing him) The woman was a menace, and if asked to testify as a character witness I would have to say she was trying to destroy her own family.
After rewatching this video, I'm more convinced than ever that Littlefinger staged the riot in King's Landing as a springboard for multiple schemes. Primarily to extract Sansa from the Lannister's custody (The Hound unknowingly thwarted this), but also to further his plot to acquire Stokeworth and its lush resources. I'd be willing to bet that Littlefinger financed a gang rape during the riot to get the unwed Lollys pregnant, which would in turn increase Lady Tanda's desperation to marry her off AND lower her standards for the suitor. That lowering of the bar created the opening for Bronn, whom I believe is in LF's employ and has continued acting as his catspaw; methodically working his way to the prime position as Lord of Stokeworth. Which means LF controls Stokeworth and is now in charge of the food it supplies for King's Landing. That's significant for a multitude of reasons. Lastly, I'd venture to guess that Littlefinger also has Tyrek Lannister (who mysteriously disappeared during the riot) stashed somewhere for safe keeping as vengeance for Tyrion's ruse with the Myrcella-Robert Arryn betrothal. Not sure what LF will use Tyrek for, but I'm sure there's something afoot.
Agree on Tyrek! I don’t think George used Tyrek just to show how Tywin would look for his body for so long but not look for Joeffrey’s killer for very long. The fact that he keeps bringing up Tyrek means something more
Tyrek would, eventually, have a claim to both Casterly Rock and Cornfield, the seat of House Swyft (Kevan is married to Dorna Swyft) A lot of people have to die for that to happen, but it's not a bad move, really. We also know how good LF is at grooming his agents. Lysa killed her husband, Cat emotionally blackmailed Ned, and Sansa is well on her way to being perfectly good killing her cousin.
Sansa will be the downfall of littlefinger i cannot wait to see it happen.... The ghost of high heart seen it in a dream " sansa will slay a giant in a castle made of snow"
Cannot wait for it too happen she will probably stop the maester poisoning Robyn and that's how she will under mine he thinks Robyn will soon die but instead hes getting stronger they will be talking about lysa when yohan Royce Robin a couple of others come in
@LagiNaLangAko23 they aren't isolationist, unlike the Dornish lords. Lords of the Vale (not all, but most) were itching to join the war on Robb's side and screw up the Lannisters, but were stopped by Lysa. Bronze Yohn and others were visibly angry when Lysa refuted any suggestions to join the war.
Wow, really well done. Especially that last part about the whisper. You guys do a really good job. This is one of my favorite videos so far! Thanks for the reminder in posting that last quote by Martin and the "tightrope." Reinforces the belief that no way does R + L = J.
Thank you so much! I LOVE finding George quotes, they are always so insightful, and telling. We are trying to incorporate them at the end of every video now.
Littlefinger is so good at chess, plans so many steps ahead that it bores him out so that he has to play with a board of the size of Westeros... I wish I was so observant, resourceful and capable at anticipating the consequences of my actions. I swear, I'll use it only for the good (my own good that is).
I think he carried on a relationship with Catelyn also. If he was always around them growing up, he would of course have learned their "secret" language. So the note Catelyn gets in the beginning could have been from Lysa or Little Finger. Also, she went to him instead of anyone else when she goes to Kings Landing, he could have told her to come to him in the note. I think they both planned the whole beginning of the war, including Jon Arryns death, and Ned's death as well. A deadly trio.
Milk of the poppy what aisle is that on at whole foods again? And I need some of those dainty ol lemon cakes & whatever spot the Hound get his chickens from?
well the only place you can get milk of the poppy in Westeros is from a maester, so they must grow the poppy somewhere...House "Highland" lands probably lol. I'd become a measter just for the cool potions.
If possible, could you guys do a comparison of the Machiavellian characteristics with regard to Littlefinger, since I feel like many of them could apply to the esteemed Lord Baelish?
To help you out on the cats paw attempting to kill Bran. Joffrey was present when his mother & Jamie (father) when they were suggesting he'd be better off dead (a lot). They were worried about him waking up and telling people what happened. I believed even at the time he took that as a mercy killing. While they weren't trying to influence him, I think he was influenced by them talking about it
Your past videos have included little known facts about ravens, crows wolves etc., and how GRRM might have used those ideas as clues to plot points. A little known fact about mockingbirds is that they often lay eggs in another bird's nest and the other bird, none the wiser, raises the baby mockingbird as her own. Hmmm...I thought I had a point here but I'm not sure I do.
I've been binging your channel for the last week and love it, my favorite channel 2nd only to Preston. My biggest struggle so far is understanding how if Mance is Arthur that he suddenly became such an accomplished musician.
I have an inkling that Littlefinger started his path of ascension by telling Lord Rickard and Brandon Stark to find Lyanna in King's Landing. Sending them to their 'untimely' deaths. Eliminating one of Lady Cat of the Cuckoo's Nest's suitors, and sending the other down a path that was supposed to lead to his death. But oops, that darn Ned didn't die, so here we go again. This is the thing I think Cat the Crazy tried to broach with Littlefinger when he cut her off.
Ashley of Naath, Completely Agree! Lyanna was close to her brothers and definitely not the type to be kidnapped. She would have possibly left a note that LF destroyed ect. resulting in a huge war and stark deaths. Always great to catch your posts
that is interesting...I do wonder how far Littlefinger had traveled or if he was still at Riverrun when that went down...it seems that he would still be at Riverrun because he stayed there for weeks following the duel to heal before Hoster sent him packing...I'll need to delve a little deeper before I can definitively say one way or another
The Order of the Green Hand I have another tin foil question about Littlefinger, which really fits the rule 'do things at a distance/keep your hands clean'. Do you think it's possible that LF is the Harpy? Or is a key contributor to the Harpy's finances?
I have to admit that we haven't done a lot of research on the Harpy, but what we have found doesn't look good...you always ask me questions I need to seriously think about...
I just watched part one of this a few hours ago as i was binge watching your videos. Was eagerly awaiting part 2 and it appears out of nowhere in the middle of my binge. Fuck yes.
While he may not be directly responsible for the Catspaw, he certainly influenced Joffrey enough to shape his personality in a way that aligned to his opportunism, therefore he caused the Catspaw, even if he was at King's Landing at the time.
Thoughtful, concise, interesting, insightful with a lot of effort. In a word, superb video!! My favorite of yours so far and I was with you early and have seen them all.
Wow! thanks so much! Glad to know we are improving and that this one turned out as good as we hoped. We almost killed each other at one point while making the video, :)
If memory serves, littlefinger's family is from bravoos. Since he has mystical type powers, as you say, he is obviously in league with the faceless men and children. "Chaos is a ladder" is a dead give away. The true question is how does aegon fit in? Dani is probably being manipulated by that little girl (myssandei?) so is another of the children's cat's paws.... So many plots....
So Robert was the one who won the dagger. I always wondered how Joff got his hands on it. Now it all makes sense. Thanks 4 the clarity! Do u think that Joff tried to kill Bran as a twisted attempt to please Robert? He did say that people should be put down like animals.
Joffery never got his hands on the dagger. Sure Tyrion theorizes that Joffery did it to try to please his dad, but all he's got, a motive and Joff's claim he's not a stranger to Valyrian Steel. There's no explanation of how he found an assassin that wouldn't just run off with the dagger. Or an assassin at all. My personal theory is that the assassin had the dagger because he's usually a thief. He got hired by LF to get the dagger back, probably through the Goldcloaks. Someone at Winterfell then saw him, thought "I know that guy, he's stealthy" and hired him for the hit.
Are you implying that Peter is using a glass candle? Interesting....but where would he get the training for such a thing? Is there evidence that he ever met Marwin? Or Quaithe?
After watching this video for a third time, like some sort of psychopath....I think you are headed in the direction of Baelish being an agent of "The Great Other". Thus making a black candle optional. Looking forward to your next installment. This is one of my favorites of yours.
WOW can't wait for next video! Littlefinger is the servant of the Great Other who is weakening Westeros for the arrival of the Others!? The North and the Riverlands are already completely vulnerable, next, The Reach and Dorne.
best American narration, on par with other great channels such as secrets of the citadel. very enjoyable thought provoking theories based on well researched ideas. always being a fan of intelligent thought, I will continue to check in...
I absolutely jive with your catspaw theory. I was just discussing this with a friend the other day. I find it interesting too that LF's method of "brainwashing" Sansa is remarkably similar to the way the faceless men operate in molding and shifting Arya's identity, and I think his Bravosi descent is relevant when considering this. I'm a little bewildered about the idea that LF could be sending dreams though. My, that would be a twist. Can't wait to hear you guys explore it further.
I'll see Westeros starve, freeze, and in ruin when the last of finance & political masterminds is put down. *after watching Littlefinger's death* Good job, Starks. Letting revenge/justice get in the way of smart behavior. Have fun trying to pay back the Iron Bank during this Long Winter!
Littlefinger had men whispering tales about Joff at Highgarden, and there were men whispering ideas about the need to end Brans suffering around joff. I don't see it hard to conclude that Littlefinger was behind the whisperings as well.
thank you...we'll get to work scripting part 3 tomorrow...we realized that what we wanted to do with this video would have required at least 15-20 more minutes, so we had to cut it off where we did, but Part 3 should be out Monday
My suggestion for your question of what was Cat about to say when LF cut him off? IHO that you need to look for the doubles in GRRM's stories. Sorry not to have any references to the text as I only have the Audible versions. For instance, Ser Duncan the Tall aka Dunk in the earlier Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, is said to be as "thick as a castle wall". Small Paul, the large oaf who wants Lord Commander Mormont's crow after they assassinate him is also referred to as being "thick as a castle wall". Also, as you pointed out in one of your "Revelations", Egg had his Dunk and Aegon has his Duck. Of course there are many and more of such examples, such as the Twincestors, Jamie and Cercei--who only feels whole when he's in her. Jamie is trying to learn to use a sword with his left hand as is Arya. Then there's, Ser Arthur Dayne who could fight just as well with his left hand as his right and Khorin Half Hand also learned to fight with his left hand after he lost his fingers. Davos lost the tips of his fingers and became King Stannis' Hand. So, I liked it when you analyzed LF's name "Baelish" because that points out another double with Bale the Bard who, according to legend reduced to song, seduced the then only Stark daughter and left her with a child and a blue flower just as Rhaegar did in this back story with Ned's sister. They too lived in the Crypts below Winterfell. This doesn't even consider the many "foils" GRRM uses such as Robert and Ned, two very different peas fostered in the same pod. Robert started his Rebellion when Rhaegar ran away with his betrothed, Ned's sister but Ned gave up his true love to get the support of the Tully's to help Robert who was about to be caught or killed by John Connington. But, IMO that Robb Stark is LF's child with Cat as Robyn is his child with Lysa. Another set of men's doubles, pun intended. Obviously Sansa is LF's stand in for both Cat and Lysa, which is why Lysa got the moon door treatment as you pointed out. LF's been drooling over Sansa ever since he first saw her. Since he seems to be controlling the Tully Tramps, I can't believe he doesn't know if she's his daughter or not--not that that fact would stop his lust; however, he also set Sansa up to take the fall with Tyrion for Joffrey's death and to marry Ramsey Bolton. Is LF so bad that he'd overly sacrifice someone who is not only his daughter but also his love interest? Cut me a confefe. Looks to me that Jon Snow and Arya (and possibly Sansa) are the only real children of Ned because Catelyn is a truly awful person filled with anger for the Starks. First when Brandon & Rickard headed to KL to confront the king instead of first having her wedding after wounding LF in a duel for her hand. Both Cat and Lysa had given their maidenheads to LF which resulted in Robb and Robyn while they nursed poor LF until Hoster kicked LF out. Then Cat hated that her father "sold" her to Ned after Brandon was killed, and finally she was infuriated, about Ned not only having a "bastard" but also bringing Jon to Winterfell even though she had already given birth to LF's son, Robb by the time Ned came home from Robert's Rebellion. If Sansa is really Ned's daughter, she probably resulted from Ned doing his "duty" by his "bride" since he was lovesick over losing Ashara. Poor Ned didn't realize that he didn't stand a chance. She tricked him into going to KL to be Robert's Hand, and the rest is history. It seems that the only good Tully is the Blackfysh, because, as you pointed out, Hoster is a real shit too and Edmure is both useless as well as stupid. Not sure who Bran & Rickon's father(s) are because it doesn't seem they are Ned's (they look more Tully than Stark), and the story line doesn't include the time frame from their births. It's hard to believe the Starks existed for 1000's of years without developing strong genes. It may well be that GRRM hasn't gotten around to their back stories yet and, from the looks of it, he may never do that job. Course, it's just as likely it's there, hidden in plain sight. After all, Hoster Tully was muttering something in his fevered sleep, and Cat's a devious bitch who'd want to obscure any likely rumors from any "deathbed confession". Other than the above, I think much and more of DD's theories below because we both basically believe that Cat was about to ask LF if Lord Varys knew about their own evil plots--it matters not what they were. LF well knew that Varys had many little birds--there's that phrase again--everywhere in KL and couldn't take the chance that they were listening to their conversation. Of course, Varys' name being used would certainly prick their ears as well as their interest.
Loved the picture of The Queen of Thorns face after showing Joffrey being poisoned. I think thats the look we all had when it happened. Great video as always, and love how fast they are coming. Know this must take so much time and effort, do you use Patreon or anything like that?
haha. i know i am so sorry. most of part 3 is already written, but we had to call it quits because it was getting really late, that is going to be our next video
When Euron Greyjoy talks to Victarion about dragons it seemed that he wanted the long night to come. He also refers to somebody he serves as "him". I don't know who he was talking about. Do you think he was talking about littlefinger?
Euron is an evil man...its going to take a 3-4 part series to break him down...we will get to him and the Iron Born soon, I promise...I know I told you that a few weeks ago, but we're tying up some loose ends in series we need to finish first, and he is one of our first topics we're going to cover as soon as we're done with Tywin
Khaled S Euron is a straight up megalomaniac, he says he is the storm ect, he thinks he is a God in my opinion. It's going to make a great series by the Hands!
The Order of the Green Hand I almost think tywin helped push the Tyrells and littlefinger into joffs murder. Cersei said "try stopping him from doing what he wants. Tywin seals a letter and pointedly says " I will". Tommen was much easier to handle.
one thing the show did really well was whenjoffrey say to take his head, everyone freaks out excpet illyn and littlefinger, while varys and cersie both freak out, its very missable and u might even have to pause to see littlefinger smirk
Sansa is not totally oblivious (in the books) she thought in one of her chapters that Petyr is a generally good guy but that littlefinger is a friend to no one, also that Tyrion is the one who saved her...not Pyter. She's more intelligent then most give her credit for and I believe it will be his downfall.
we never really hated on Sansa...we called her Cat jr once for her decision to tell Cersei Ned's plan, but for the most part are very forgiving and mindful of the fact that she is 11 when the books start...I do wonder about her future (mentors like Cat, Cersei and Littlefinger doesn't seem to bode well)
Wow, I always loved tywin, but with your little finger series I begin to admire him to, I still think he is way more bad then good for the kingdom, unlike tywin, but he is a genius! I recommend to watch Preston jacobses videos on him to, as he talks a lot about Littlefingers possible goals, and his debt scheme!
Thanks so much. Yes, we love Tywin, and I even find myself liking Littlefinger, but then I stop and think about some of the things he's done and I'm like that little rascal, but am still in awe of him. :)
What do you guys think of the possibility that Mance hired/sent the catspaw? He did tell jon that he was at Winterfell that day Robert came to visit and he saw everyone. He even brought a bag of silver that was coincidentally left where where the catspaw was staying the in stable. Mance also was amount the bards and freeriders with Robert to blend in, so he could have met up with the cat spaw. It would make sense since Mance too would benefit from a Stark and Lannister feud since that means more opportunity for the Wildling armies to wreak havoc in the north. That would be the perfect opportunity to sow discord(which he may have planed to do somehow anyway). Why else would Mance waste all that time and risk a perilous journey over the wall JUST to hangout at a party in Winterfell to see the Starks and Robert? Also note the idea of Mercy every one was talking about for a crippled/comatose child(Robert, Sandor, Joff). Something that the Wildlings also agree with. It's a pretty plausible theory especially when you consider that the Catspaw could have also been a willing agent accompanying Mance or sent ahead.
"You can lead a horse to water, but with Joffrey you had to splash it about to make him realize he can drink it." When I read that is when I figured out that he was responsible for Ned's death
That moment when you have one more final exam for the semester later today and should be studying but Green Hand releases a new video... I need to get my priorities straight
If LF somehow whispered to Joffrey to have Bran killed, he first had to know about Bran's fall. I'm not sure that would be big enough news to travel to LF that fast. Also we are led to believe that Joffrey got the idea from something Robert said - did LF arrange that too, or find out about. It? Oh, the cats paw could have told him, but it would be really dangerous for LF to let the man know who he was -- what if the catspaw was taken alive? And Joffrey doesn't need a motive to do violence. Looking forward to part 3 but it's going to take some convincing before I swallow LF's involvement in this plot.
“#4 No Loose Ends.” And THAT is what will be the Mockingbird’s Downfall, why? Because he forgot a Loose End in the form of Jeyne Poole who is currently on her way to Castle Black and knows from Experience exactly what kind of person LittleFinger is.
Late to the party. I was so busy yesterday. the one thing that always got me concerning LF is I always wondered what the hell he was going to do towards the end of the series when the White Walkers descend on Westeros. We know that at this point the survivors are going to be running short on food and that will be LF's ultimate bargaining chip since he is buying up all the food he can in the Vale. But things will so desperate at this point since it is a battle for the lives of everyone in Westeros that LF better not twist anyone's arm too much or they may kill him and take the food by force. I think this is where LF's plans will start truly unfolding and we will see the his cool demeanor start to crack. I don't know about Euron, but the two players who will definitely be completely taken by surprise by the Others will definitely be Cersei and LF. LF can't bargain with I r pay off or manipulate the Others. All his skills are next to worthless in the face of the cold enemy. He will be expected to hand that food out for the survival of mankind during the long night instead of using it to put houses in his debt and/or withhold it from houses he needs to weaken by starving the people of said house. I think all his plans will go to shit and that is when he will be at his most dangerous because I believe if LF becomes convinced that he will never succeed, the only thing he will have left is the opportunity to make sure that those who ruined him lose everything as well. I believe he will (at least attempt) go out with a bang and scar the readers as much as the characters. that's just my opinion.
oh I should of just watched this episode before my last comment on the other video about Joffery attempted assassination of Bran. you guys got it all covered and that's why I like your channel
I'm convinced that if the R+L=J theory is true, lyanna must have sent ravens...but someone intercepted them...and I think it was Littlefinger(?) Or the grey rats or possibly even Hoster Tully. I for sure am behind the idea that Tywin plotted the rebellion and used Robert as a puppet king to have Lannister blood on the Throne and rule through his grandchild. I also for sure believe that Hoster Tully was a power grasping fish, Rickard was manipulated into marrying off his children to southerners by his grey rat (maester) as northerners rarely marry southern men and women if they can't help it (last time was a Stark many times great grand father) and was told by the grey rat that Ned would benefit fostering in the Eyrie. Littlefinger for sure manipulated Jon Arryn to realise the truth of Cersei's bastards and the incest, but swept in at the precise moment to make it all suspicious with Lysa as his poisoner, knowing Robert would appoint Ned (friend, brother, etc) as Hand and in the prime position for Littlefinger to finally get rid of him and sew discord and chaos in the realm (I also fully believe he was quietly influencing Joffrey behind the scenes) and perhaps have Catelyn or, if not, the exact, younger copy of her: Sansa. And be king of the ashes.
If you pause this video 11:15 it's the most amazing shot ever! plus my friend told me his Nan calls him Butterfinger. Someone make a Butterfinger picture please using this shot.
I was thinking about Ned being killed by Petyr this whole time, he probably mentioned how the North would never let Ned be so unjustly punished and would rise up.
Love where you're going with this. It kills me sometimes that you don't watch Preston's vids, but I completely agree with your reason for not doing so. I just hope that when you're done with all these (and before you take people's requests ) that you will watch them.
Hi again, Jacker how old are you? Lord Green Hand and I have been debating this for awhile now, because you have a picture of Barry and use phrases such as "excellent turn of phrase," and we now have a bet going and it needs to be settled because its driving us crazy, and clearly we aren't very good at waiting for answers, otherwise we wouldn't be on here making videos on answers to some of our questions on ASOIAF. I'd love it if you could tie up this loose end for us ! ;)
I did see it, thanks. Most of the time I figure one more comment in your comment section would just slow you guys down in your video production, so I thumbs up, and leave it at that. And I'm 35. I've just spent most of my life among the geriatric. :-)
hahaa aww! same for me, I am the youngest in my entire family (including a very huge extended family), so I totally get that. :0) thank you for clarifying. :)
Littlefinger as an instrument of The Great Other? Or Rh'lorr? That is insane idea, but I love it guys... thanks a lot for making these videos, you make me think a lot :-D
Great video aswell. What I love about littlefinger is when I read someone else's chapters, they discover something and I'm like yep, that's got littlefinger written all over it. Great character but he MUST die lol. Also what is the name of you guy's background music. It's awesome
we bought it from a website that sells songs and shorts of songs...Its called "to the top"...we agonized over the music for months, trying to hire local musicians to make us a song, and eventually just went online and listened to hundreds of songs and we really like this song...it even has a sort of rockish game of thrones theme song feel to it when the guitar comes in
we're of the mind that if we are going to do this, we want it to be good and we want to be right, otherwise we are just wasting our time, and this takes like 80+ hours a week between the two of us to do...we started doing this because we lacked the ability to wait for answers, and didn't agree with just about anything we saw online, so we decided we should find the answers ourselves
Yep 100% agree... a lot of your findings really cannot be questioned. I love your POV on Jons parentage. Would love to see a Ned stark series where we look at in detail his journey from the day he learned about Brandon's death to when he returned to winterfell with jon..
its good to see your name in the comment section...I haven't seen it in a while...I remember you being the first to say that our channel would have 100k subs someday...I think we were at about 1000 at the time
I remember when I said that ! Lol! It was a few months back and now you're over 13 TIMES 1000 subscribers! People recognize quality work when they hear it. I still listen to every new video you produce and I often revisit some of the older videos , just too busy to comment, most times! 😀
I remember when I said that! Lol! And now, you're at 13 TIMES 1000 subscribers! People know quality content when they hear it. I still listen to every new video that you produce and I often revisit some of the older ones. Your content has greatly increased my understanding and appreciation of "The Song of Ice and Fire" ! Thanks to you, I hate Kathelyn Stark! Lol!😀
Wow now I can't wait for part three! If you somehow prove that Littlefinger is working with the Children of the Forrest that would be amazing. From the TV show it seems Sansa is suspicious of Littlefinger especially after the Bolton incident. I think she is going to be his downfall because he seems to be in love with her since she looks like his mother.
He does think that Catelyn gave her virginity to him and he has been obsessed with her. Love may not be the right word but he has an intense attraction to Sansa. I think he would make himself vulnerable to her
+Steve Wilkinson Well, I can agree he may be vulnerable given the inside look he has given her. Whether he really is attracted to Sansa the person or if it's more complicated (like what she represents), time will tell...
On a phone the titles cannot be read past the first few words. Y'all should consider a thumbnail that is not covered by youtube mobile buttons so we can read that last few words on the thumbnail... and add part 1/2/3 first. So we can know which order to click in... Or perhaps links to connected videos. (Maybe I'm using the app wrong and just cant figure it out, if so then pay no mind carry on, great content.)
we do have them organized in playlists...and I believe which number video they are in the series is in each description...or should be...thanks for looking out though...we appreciate it
How could LF be the one that ordered Brans death? He was in Kings Landing. News of Brans injury would take weeks to arrive. With a raven shorter but who would of sent a raven and consequently received LF instructions and dagger to kill Bran from another raven? Oh glass candle... does everyone have these jeez. Little Finger is part Bravosi. Could he be part of the Faceless mens plots? The pic of Gull Town era Petyr is awesome.. Great Mini mullet!
LOL. You will have answers to your questions in part 3. Gulltown Petyrr was a gold mine! I found that while looking online for young petyr baelish pictures. :)
Love the well thought out videos guys. Two tiny criticisms... First, "gaol" and "gaoler" are pronounced the same as the American "jail" and "jailer." They're just more archaic spellings. Second, your opening music is exciting, but SO loud relative to the voice levels. Could you please balance them a bit? Thanks again for all your work!
Will you guys be heading over to Essos any time to check on Dani? I am interested in your theories on the house with the red door and the lemon tree. And everything else going on over there! :)
I think the house with the red door with a lemon tree is the Sealord of Braavos' palace...he has a serious collection of exotic tropical animals...he needs to keep them alive somehow, which leads me to believe he has a huge greenhouse/ glass garden that Dany vaguely remembers...we know the Sealord was present for the marriage pact between Viserys and Arienne Martell, and his palace seems to be the most likely place exiled royalty would stay when in Braavos...we think she's an important character but haven't really found any reason to theorize about her yet
Even I thought that littlefinger must be behind Bran's assassination attempt. But he would want Catelyn alive to further his plans and ofc he wouldn't have any idea about direwolf behavior tho.
Best videos EVER!!! --------------------------------------- Here is my theory of LF. "She reminds me of the mother, not the father, Lord Petyr Baelish said quietly" Sansa can't warg not because Lady died too early but because she is not a Stark she is a Baelish. Sansa is Little Fingers daughter which is why he has always taken so much interest in her (like he has with Robin - notice the bird motiff) and why Catelyn was willing to follow his instuctions just like Lysa, they both thought the were acting in the best interest of their children with LF. . LF plotted in KL to arrange a wedding between Cersei's bastard and his bastard. In the show Sansa is called Little Bird and always plastered with bird motifs on her clothes and jewlery. However the real proof has been in plain view since the introduction of LF, his changed "family" sigil - Mockingjay -- Some types of mockingbirds are known to lay "alien eggs", or eggs that are laid in another bird's nest. Similar to the cowbird, the mockingbirds' offspring will force the other nest inhabitants from the nest, taking all the food from the parents and forcing the foster-parents to rear and fledge them. LF laid his eggs in these weak Tully women nests, thereby controlling the north with Winterfell and the Vale. This is why the Starks were really targetted not because of the Lanisters or Baratheons, it was because LF was clearing the nest for his daughter to take the throne. We know he made Lysa kill her husband, who knows if she also got rid of Arynn's children like Cersei aborted many of Robert's children. Here's how I think LF got rid of all the Starks except Sansa (like he got rid of all the Arynn's except his son Robin) * LF directed Catelyn's stupidity that lead to Ned, Rob (Rob's wife and child) and her own death. * LF sent the assasin to complete Cersei and Jaimie's incomplete murder of Bran (He thrives in chaos). * LF perched Sansa with the Bolton's to hold on to Winterfell (A Stark must always be in Winterfell). * LF found Rickon and had him handed over to his certain death with the Boltons. * LF overlooked Bran and Arya because he assumed they were already dead. * LF never saw Jon as a problem since he was universally labeled a bastard and was sent away to the Wall. So what will be LF's down fall-- his children. Sansa is NOT a Tully she is a Baelish who cut her teeth not at Riverrun but in Kingslanding. Sansa will beat her father at his own game.____
first of all thank you so much...the only problem with Sansa being LF's is timing...Sansa was born 3 years after Robb, and Ned was in Winterfell and there is no record of LF ever being there....we have a theory as to why the Starks were targeted...it will be included in Part 3, assuming we don't run over again, which we do tend to do
But dude, you're basing this on the show, not the books. Why even posting it here? No one's gonna take it seriously. Points 3 and 4 of your conclusion are show-only.
D D I like it very much! I think it's very creative. Ashley of Naath also pointed out about the ghost of high heart foretold that Sansa will slay a great giant in a castle made of snow. The Baelish sigil prior to mockingbird was a giants head, so she may well slay him. I don't think she's his child necessarily, but they call her little bird and he took her under his wing teaching her trickery. He has ambitions to marry her which she'll use against him if she ever ever smartens the heck up, still waiting. .....Thanks
GrayGod and all. If anyone is Cat and littlefingers son it would be bran. Cat says it was 9 years ago that she visited the capital. Later, she mentioned she was still a Tully when at the inn. Brans age is pretty close to the (more than a visit) time discussed. maybe it's coincidence, maybe not.
i listen to your videos while looking at other stuff, its mostly interesting talk. And the guy has a voice good enough for doing audiobooks, i thought he was a pro at first.
i've listened to a few audiobooks, when the author isn't doing it himself/herself, they often hire speakers with a voice similar to the guy doing these. He has good pitch and the voice has an edge. that's what counts. Me i doubt i could narrate a first glade play, lol
Random question, but why wasn't Edmure betrothed to someone sooner? He's the Tully heir. It's a little strange he wasn't betrothed by the beginning of the story
I think either Lf and Varys are afraid of each other or actually have some mutually beneficial goals otherwise how could these two possibly have withstood each other in close proximity for years. They both must have found out at least some of what the other was doing and decided it would be better to let them continued.
One question: how did LF knew Robert would never see the dagger? LF manipulating Joffery finally explains why a Valerian steel dagger was used. At first I thought that it being used was inconvenient to LF since it connected him to the murder. Now I see that it have him an opportunity to blame Tryion. We know he knows about tricks used to dishonestly win at tourneys so there original bet was probably fixed..
I've always been bothered by the name "Small Council". Since they tackle immensely important matters of the state, shouldn't they be called the High Council, or the Royal Council?
Okay, at this point I think Littlefinger is an agent or an earthly manifestation of the Great Other who just wants to mess things up as much as he can before he sends in the Walkers and the Walking Dead. I mean that theory has its loose ends as well but nothing else seems plausible to me. I mean the Iron Throne ? It seems to me that if Baelish had wanted it so much he could have gotten it long ago(it could be that he's afraid of Varys but I'm not so sure). You could say that I just can't put my ah, finger on it. Heh... I'll show myself out...
GRRM has said that Varys doesn't know what LF wants...if he wanted the throne, Varys would have figured that out in about 2 minutes...what he wants is much more sinister
Could be. Varys once said he would see the realm burn if he could be the king of the ashes. Perhaps LF wants exactly that. His reasoning may be that he wants to get revenge on the world for the pain and humiliation it gave him(in his perspective). Being humiliated by Edmure when he was a child, then by Brandon(he pretty much asked for it but still) and then he losing Catelyn to Eddard when Brandon died. IIRC he was not very powerful even if he was wealthy. Then what little humanity he might have had died with the Red Wedding when Catelyn, perhaps the only thing he ever genuinely loved and cared for, was murdered by Lannisters and Freys. Starks, Tullies Lannisters have all ''wronged'' him in one way or another and at this point he just wants to see them all burn and not care about the collateral damage. This would also fit in with Geroge's human heart in conflict with itself is the only thing to write about" thing. The major hole I see with this theory though is that LF already seems to have planned things way before the Red Wedding ever happened though at the end I do believe that whether he is an agent of the Great Other like I mentioned(maybe he is the three eyed crow, not that his usual attire doesn't hint at it lol) or just a guy who hates the world he wants to see everything and everyone burn to the ground at the end.
I was think from begin on that Littlefinger influenced Joff as Varys did to Ned. But not all can magical. What makes him great is that he is a normal guy and came up because he is clever
Is it possible that Littlefinger's motivation was always Cat? A lot of his actions read to me as revenge on the Starks for Brandon taking her from him and trying to give Cat every opportunity to come back to him. Then after Cat's death his attention shifts to Sansa because she reminds him of her mother.
sadly you guys had more of an understanding of Littelfinger than the season 7 writers did
The Littlefinger Rulebook:
#1 In order to get people to do what *you* want, you must first know what *they* want.
With this^ plan, LF could, in a realistic world, win the Game.
*furiously taking notes*
When you say "so let's do this.." I get so pumped like your about to tell me the secret of the universe lol. Great Job!!!!
haha...thank you
A man who also appreciates the "lets do this" followed by the OGH tune.
A gentleman has good taste
can confirm
Even better, no one says, "let's jump right in."
Little Finger made a deal with the proverbial devil.
tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if it were Littlefinger who planted the seed of the whole incest thing in Jon Arryn's head. This man is a master of the game.
Littlefinger is exceptional...he shifts from target to target seamlessly and when he is done with you, you die
Abdullah Al-Sageer i think that he was also responsible for Renly, Stannis and maybe Pycelle finding out
Littlefinger is a faceless man. Or was. He isn't dead..
I wouldn’t be surprised if Petyr has a glass candle in his possession.
also wanted to add the bits where 3 separate characters did not recognize Ned.
Sansa is there when he is beheaded
Please dont give me hope
All three were emotionally distressed, and not the best eyewitnesses. Ned is either dead or a pigeon. Cersei isn't being shat on, so I have to assume he's dead.
You have transformed me from a causal reader to an over-analytic theorist... and that's definitely not a bad thing ;)
Thank you
Oh, so Littlefinger might be even more competent than we realized. Oh boy.
he's terrifying
The Order of the Green Hand Agreed.
Bewitagos1
"He's one of the most dangerous men in westeros"
-Varys
beamerball666
I think we're starting to discover that he may actually be the single most dangerous man in Westeros. At least I can't think of someone with a kill count even close to his, the war of the five kingdoms being what it is.
Bewitagos1, Was there ever any doubt?
He's so good at what he does, you almost want to root for him. But then you remember Eddard Stark.
Maybe if enough Lannisters get killed he will try and make him Lord of Casterly Rock?
Finally more Littlefinger
he is fascinating
Finally. Someone else who gets it.😀
Angela Jansons that’s what I think aswell.
Littlefinger deserves to be King for dealing with the Tully girls.... I'm surprised he didn't OD on milk of the poppy by now
hahaha
James Gravil oh tansy
Milk of the poppy what aisle is that on at whole foods again? And I need some of those dainty ol lemon cakes & whatever spot the Hound get his chickens from?
pigeon pie 50% off today only! Its old of code, old and stale pigeons
well the only place you can get milk of the poppy in Westeros is from a maester, so they must grow the poppy somewhere...House "Highland" lands probably lol. I'd become a measter just for the cool potions.
If possible, could you guys do a comparison of the Machiavellian characteristics with regard to Littlefinger, since I feel like many of them could apply to the esteemed Lord Baelish?
in part 3 you will see where we are going with this.
About Rule #7 at 4:20 that reminds me about what Renly used to tell Petyr about buying a 'friend'...
haha...you're the second person who said that...I wish I thought about it and somehow worked it in
Some people believe that it was Littlefinger too who hired Jaqen to kill Ned on his way to the Wall in case Joffrey didn't
Would make sense.
That is a fascinating piece of information...thank you so much
I've been binging your channel for the last week and love it, my favorite channel 2nd only to Preston. My biggest struggle so far is understanding how if Mance is Arthur that he suddenly became such an accomplished musician.
Ruthless efficiency!
and an almost fanatical devotion to himself.
I couldn't think of a better way to put it
I have an inkling that Littlefinger started his path of ascension by telling Lord Rickard and Brandon Stark to find Lyanna in King's Landing.
Always great to catch your posts
that is interesting...I do wonder how far Littlefinger had traveled or if he was still at Riverrun when that went down...it seems that he would still be at Riverrun because he stayed there for weeks following the duel to heal before Hoster sent him packing...I'll need to delve a little deeper before I can definitively say one way or another
Thank you miss Tyrell. Always a pleasure to chit chat w/ya!
I'm loving this series. Well, I love ALL of them, but LF is almost one of my favorite characters :)
thank you...he is devilishly good
I just watched part one of this a few hours ago as i was binge watching your videos. Was eagerly awaiting part 2 and it appears out of nowhere in the middle of my binge. Fuck yes.
we do what we can
While he may not be directly responsible for the Catspaw, he certainly influenced Joffrey enough to shape his personality in a way that aligned to his opportunism, therefore he caused the Catspaw, even if he was at King's Landing at the time.
Stay tuned ;)
This series is a pleasure to watch.
Thank you so much
Are you implying that Peter is using a glass candle? Interesting....but where would he get the training for such a thing? Is there evidence that he ever met Marwin? Or Quaithe?
great question....unfortunately that will have to wait for part 3
After watching this video for a third time, like some sort of psychopath....I think you are headed in the direction of Baelish being an agent of "The Great Other". Thus making a black candle optional. Looking forward to your next installment. This is one of my favorites of yours.
Thank you
Grant Denton honestly, right after the John snow mother stuff this is my favourite. Why did it take so long to do little finger?
Andrew C - It took this long because that's how much Catelyn sucks.
WOW can't wait for next video! Littlefinger is the servant of the Great Other who is weakening Westeros for the arrival of the Others!? The North and the Riverlands are already completely vulnerable, next, The Reach and Dorne.
thank you so much...we've been waiting to find time to do the Littlefinger series for like 3 months...he is a terrifyingly ruthless machine
I've binged your entire channel. Congratulations from taking me away from my deadline and publishers demands : )
+Carl Sinclair I am so sorry!! But thank you ! I think we should be honored ! 😊
The Order of the Green Hand I'll pretend it's research or something. The perfect plan...
best American narration, on par with other great channels such as secrets of the citadel. very enjoyable thought provoking theories based on well researched ideas. always being a fan of intelligent thought, I will continue to check in...
Thank you
I'm so in to this. Begun to mimic the intro. Keep it up!!
haha...thank you
I absolutely jive with your catspaw theory.
Thank you so much
As ever a fantastic video. I was hoping you could do a video on Davos sometime. I know he has no schemes going on but I love the guy.
he is one of our favorites too....we might do a video on him at some point
Yay!
Littlefinger is Machiavellian
he most certainly is, but I think you'll understand why we didn't proclaim him the Machiavelli of Westeros after you've seen part 3
OGH - throwing another cliffhanger in the comments, cot damn.
The Order of the Green Hand You have peaked my interest.
Machiavellian does not mean do whatever you need to, to get what you want. Everyone gets this wrong
I'll see Westeros starve, freeze, and in ruin when the last of finance & political masterminds is put down.
*after watching Littlefinger's death*
Good job, Starks.
Absolutely cannot wait for more videos. Thank you OGH.
thank you...Littefinger part 3 will be online in an hour or two
Another kick ass vid!! thank yall for ur hard work, its much appreciated!!
thank you for watching
Aww, I want more, more, more! I could listen to your theories for hours.
thank you...we'll get to work scripting part 3 tomorrow...we realized that what we wanted to do with this video would have required at least 15-20 more minutes, so we had to cut it off where we did, but Part 3 should be out Monday
Thank you. We have a patreon link on our channel page
Preston and OotGH in one day! Life's been good lately
yay!
You guys are def one of my new favorite channels! loving this!
thank you
i was really looking forward to this. great video great series. cant wait for the next part.
thanks scott
OGH ... that one was not fair!!! You had me hanging on your every word there and left with a cliffhanger! Need #3 right now please!!
haha. i know i am so sorry. most of part 3 is already written, but we had to call it quits because it was getting really late, that is going to be our next video
The Order of the Green Hand : On a side note, you once again got a laugh out of me by introducing Lysa and Catelyn as the batshit sisters.
after we thought of it we have a hard time calling them anything else
The Order of the Green Hand Just want to say you're one of those few channels that offer context as good as any TV series.
I will second that.
The Order of the Green Hand what is your defintion of soon???
one thing the show did really well was whenjoffrey say to take his head, everyone freaks out excpet illyn and littlefinger, while varys and cersie both freak out, its very missable and u might even have to pause to see littlefinger smirk
Sansa is not totally oblivious (in the books) she thought in one of her chapters that Petyr is a generally good guy but that littlefinger is a friend to no one, also that Tyrion is the one who saved her...not Pyter. She's more intelligent then most give her credit for and I believe it will be his downfall.
we never really hated on Sansa...we called her Cat jr once for her decision to tell Cersei Ned's plan, but for the most part are very forgiving and mindful of the fact that she is 11 when the books start...I do wonder about her future (mentors like Cat, Cersei and Littlefinger doesn't seem to bode well)
I just watched part one earlier this morning while binge watching your videos and was eagerly awaiting part2. Then it shows up mid binge, fuck yes.
we do what we can
Shit i posted this twice. I think its time to get some sleep lmao.
hahaha...I thought I already responded to it, but figured I must have failed to post it or something
I always knew Petyr was the real spider in the web, but never learnt how before this channel
Everytime I watch one of your videos, I feel that I am Ace Ventura and have just found out that Einhorn is a man.
are you plunging and washing your mouth out with soap?
hahaha, yes, and chewing gum to wash that nasty R+L=J taste out of my mouth. Next I will vacuum my tongue.
you should probably hit the shower too
Second time around your videos are getting better
like always a well done video from the green hand
thank you!!!
"You can lead a horse to water, but with Joffrey you had to splash it about to make him realize he can drink it." When I read that is when I figured out that he was responsible for Ned's death
true. good catch.
Great, well thought out video. I hadn't considered Petyr had influenced Joffrey. But I fully buy into this theory.
thank you Sherry-Lynn
That moment when you have one more final exam for the semester later today and should be studying but Green Hand releases a new video... I need to get my priorities straight
hahahaa, i hope you passed your exam!?? and enjoyed the video.
Oh god this is so amazing
Thank you so much
amazing video, can't wait for part 3. cliffhangers are so unfair.
thank you and sorry
I think part 3 will clear up a lot of your concerns...or I hope it will at least
I get so hyped when the theme music comes on. 😂😂😍
that's what we like to hear
Small point of order, isn't "gaoler" pronounced "jailer"? Gaol is just an obscure British spelling of jail and is pronounced the same way.
My constant refreshing of my youtube subscribed channels list finally pays off! Woot!
hope you enjoy
If you pause this video 11:15 it's the most amazing shot ever! plus my friend told me his Nan calls him Butterfinger. Someone make a Butterfinger picture please using this shot.
I was thinking about Ned being killed by Petyr this whole time, he probably mentioned how the North would never let Ned be so unjustly punished and would rise up.
Love where you're going with this. It kills me sometimes that you don't watch Preston's vids, but I completely agree with your reason for not doing so. I just hope that when you're done with all these (and before you take people's requests ) that you will watch them.
thanks Sir Barry. I was wondering where you have been! did you see we featured your comment in the Catelyn Sucks part 5 video?
So you win the bet, then?
Littlefinger as an instrument of The Great Other? Or Rh'lorr? That is insane idea, but I love it guys... thanks a lot for making these videos, you make me think a lot :-D
Thank you so much
I think Joff overheard his father say it would be kinder to be dead than live like Bran.
Great video aswell. What I love about littlefinger is when I read someone else's chapters, they discover something and I'm like yep, that's got littlefinger written all over it. Great character but he MUST die lol.
Also what is the name of you guy's background music. It's awesome
we bought it from a website that sells songs and shorts of songs...Its called "to the top"...we agonized over the music for months, trying to hire local musicians to make us a song, and eventually just went online and listened to hundreds of songs and we really like this song...it even has a sort of rockish game of thrones theme song feel to it when the guitar comes in
It really does. Yo the dedication there is quite inspiring!
we're of the mind that if we are going to do this, we want it to be good and we want to be right, otherwise we are just wasting our time, and this takes like 80+ hours a week between the two of us to do...we started doing this because we lacked the ability to wait for answers, and didn't agree with just about anything we saw online, so we decided we should find the answers ourselves
Yep 100% agree... a lot of your findings really cannot be questioned. I love your POV on Jons parentage. Would love to see a Ned stark series where we look at in detail his journey from the day he learned about Brandon's death to when he returned to winterfell with jon..
The Order of the Green Hand lol sorry if I sound pushy but guys have really grown on me
Who do you think is potentially more dangerous... Littlefinger or Crow's Eye? I personally would love to see that...
Hi Green Hand! I love your channel. These "rules of little finger" video is inspired!
Thank you
You're welcome
its good to see your name in the comment section...I haven't seen it in a while...I remember you being the first to say that our channel would have 100k subs someday...I think we were at about 1000 at the time
I remember when I said that !
I think she is going to be his downfall because he seems to be in love with her since she looks like his mother.
thank you so much...it seems likely that you'll like part 3
+Steve Wilkinson Infatuation maybe, but I'm not sure a sociopath like LF truly loves like a regular person.
(Maybe I'm using the app wrong and just cant figure it out, if so then pay no mind carry on, great content.)
we do have them organized in playlists...and I believe which number video they are in the series is in each description...or should be...thanks for looking out though...we appreciate it
I'm just waiting for him to become King of the ashes
Sansa: I am now a player of the Game of Thrones
Me: Bullshit if daddy little finger could do just about anything to you
I think Sansa will expose LF in WoW
Love the well thought out videos guys. Two tiny criticisms...
First, "gaol" and "gaoler" are pronounced the same as the American "jail" and "jailer." They're just more archaic spellings.
Second, your opening music is exciting, but SO loud relative to the voice levels. Could you please balance them a bit?
Thanks again for all your work!
I now know this :-( haha
Rules #8 & 9 sounds like retail customer service...
Stellar, as always :)
thank you
Even I thought that littlefinger must be behind Bran's assassination attempt. But he would want Catelyn alive to further his plans and ofc he wouldn't have any idea about direwolf behavior tho.
Best videos EVER!!!
---------------------------------------
Here is my theory of LF.
"She reminds me of the mother, not the father, Lord Petyr Baelish said quietly"
Sansa can't warg not because Lady died too early but because she is not a Stark she is a Baelish.
Here's how I think LF got rid of all the Starks except Sansa (like he got rid of all the Arynn's except his son Robin)
* LF directed Catelyn's stupidity that lead to Ned, Rob (Rob's wife and child) and her own death.
He has ambitions to marry her which she'll use against him if she ever ever smartens the heck up, still waiting. .....Thanks
I could see Sweet Robin being his bastard; Sansa is bit more difficult and unlikely.
I know right!!! I tell him that all the time :)
i've listened to a few audiobooks, when the author isn't doing it himself/herself, they often hire speakers with a voice similar to the guy doing these. He has good pitch and the voice has an edge. that's what counts. Me i doubt i could narrate a first glade play, lol
My mind is blown 🤯 I never considered that Littlefinger might have anything magical about him.
Since they tackle immensely important matters of the state, shouldn't they be called the High Council, or the Royal Council?
that is a really interesting point...I must admit that I'd never thought of that before
It was a point that was grating me for a long time, and I just had to say it.
I'm glad you did...now I feel like I need an answer to that too
Okay, at this point I think Littlefinger is an agent or an earthly manifestation of the Great Other who just wants to mess things up as much as he can before he sends in the Walkers and the Walking Dead.
The Order of the Green Hand Yeah and there's that too.
Perhaps he wants what Danerys wants..."to break the wheel".
The major hole I see with this theory though is that LF already seems to have planned things way before the Red Wedding ever happened though at the end I do believe that whether he is an agent of the Great Other like I mentioned(maybe he is the three eyed crow, not that his usual attire doesn't hint at it lol) or just a guy who hates the world he wants to see everything and everyone burn to the ground at the end.
have you ever heard of the Moscow Rules? the ‘rules’ of soviet spies? that’s what your LittleFinger rule book reminded me of :D
Then after Cat's death his attention shifts to Sansa because she reminds him of her mother.
first of all...great name...we think his motives are just about as sinister as it gets...the rest I need to save for part 3
