Yup. He should have had more common sense though, in stead of throwing away his life before his time had come. Even Brian Connolly reached almost twice his age.... And Gary Moore did. Somewhat less charisma and somewhat more common sense would have led to more Thin Lizzy music for us and more girlfriends to this eternal casanova.
Actually, now that I think about it, I guess he did rhyme depressed and restless because "rest" is a part of restless even if it wasn't rhymed with the final syllable.
Massive Lizzy fan have been since age of 13 I'm now 58 I knew Phil Lynott met him numerous times great songwriter great band live great memories always in my heart Phil and Gary
Hi Philip!! Im happy for you... What a dream.... To have meet and changed words with Phil Lynott... I would love to have done that... Loved this band since1982.... When I was 12 years old.... My hope is that Gary and Phil are resting peacefully in the true Lord's loving grip!! Greetings from Denmark.
"I must confess that in my quest I felt depressed and restless, but this casanova's roving days are over more or less" the poetry in his lines and the delivery. Need I say more
How can this be so underrated? I mean the outstanding vocals/lyrics and that fucking solo at the beginning. Thin Lizzy are the greatest, those who really knows them are lucky.
Hi Ricardo I was lucky enough to see the great Phil Lynott twice, I'll never forget the way he shone his black and silver guitar in my eyes, brilliant.
In his last year, I believe, he was spared jail for drugs, and the judge said that so long as he was only harming himself, he could go free. At that point, stronger intervention could have made a big difference. Ultimately though, he should have saved himself. Instead he was injecting heroin into the soles of his feet in secret, so no-one would notice the needle marks... a tragedy.
Fun fact at every single Heavy/Rock concert i was at in the 80's(my first was ac/dc in 82 i was 14 and believe it or not the concert wasn't sold out)the t-shirts and those badges ppl was sewing on their jackets ect. you saw the most of was always Thin Lizzy!
I've been a casual fan of Thin Lizzy's with my knowledge of their songs being limited to "The Boys Are Back in Town" , "Dancing in the Moonlight" , and "Jailbreak". For awhile "Jailbreak" was my favorite Thin Lizzy song until I fell upon this song. From their I decided to delve more deeply into Thin Lizzy's & Phil Lynott's music and I'm realizing that there was way more good stuff there. "Baby Please Don't Go" is now a huge favorite of mine. "Got To Give It Up" , "No More" , "Growing Up" , "Somebody Else's Dream" , "King's Call" , "Please Don't Leave Me" , "I Still Think of You" , "Opium Trail" , "Cold Sweat" , "Don't Believe a Word" , "Hollywood (Down On Your Luck)" have all become newly discovered favorites of mine. I kind of kick myself for not being hip to those songs earlier but better late than never I guess. Discovering this music makes it even more clear to me on how much of a tragic loss Phil Lynott was. Definitely gone too soon. He was the man.
I have been looping this song today for like 20 times, or more even... I am going to look up those songs you mentioned, I am not sure if I have heard them. I was also just a casual fan until yesterday really. I love this song, it is so good
One of the best bands ever, so sad about nowadays music. I´m not young or old, maybe somewhere beetween and it´s not about being nostalgic, just a fact.
Saw Thin Lizzy open for Queen in 77 as a kid and they blew Queen away! My older brother didn't even like Queen but he took me anyway and we were blown away by Thin Lizzy. I became a fan and bought everything they ever put out including bootleg concerts. I always loved this song.
Lyricism is almost as rhythmic as it is melodic. Placement of syllables plays a major part in how vocals flow. This is especially noticeable in rapping, where the rhythm is more important than melody.
It's a tedious existence laying your love on the line Resistance is useless she can leave at any time I must confess that in my quest I felt depressed and restless But this Casanova's roving days are over more or less With love She broke my heart and made me sad You foolish boy you lost what you had My Mademoiselle I must make my farewell You see Senor I know she don't want me no more I'd like to make that Fraulein mine, mein Fraulein So I'll depart sweetheart and leave you with this line With love She says she won't be back no more With love She says she's leaving for sure My Mademoiselle I'll say farewell No matter where you are, Au Revoir 'Til we meet again, Auf Wiedersehn She wrote it on a letter But it didn't make him feel any better With love She says goodbye, adios, farewell There are those who will spend a lifetime of leisure 'Til the leisure finally takes control And they'll spend their life in search of pleasure Never knowing the treasure that they own There are those who will spend a lifetime in hard labor 'Til the labor breaks both body and soul And they will learn to love their neighbor And be assured of what they own
In my opinion one of the best songs from this great band, it's got everything, great melody, great lyrics, great guitar playing , great vocals, doesn't seem to make their best songs list????
Another great track from the boys ...so strong musically ..charisma pouring out of Phil ..poetry .rock and roll ..blues ..they had it all ..saw them 75 time no one could touch them live ..RIP Phil and Gary

Another testament to the brilliance of Gary Moore 🤘 The feel and tone of these solo's is beyond everybody else imo..... only Gary could ( and did) have done it. ( Don't get me wrong, it took them all...Lynott, Gorham and Downey)

Hello my brother...
Thin Lizzy is my favorite band 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
The biggest hard rock band in the world that never was !!!
Phil is the definition of cool. That guy had some Incredible charisma. Sad he's gone.

One of Thin Lizzy's best guitar solo in this song.
Gary Moore..RIP.
I like the solo in Wild One.
Emerald and Still in Love with you, the best ever
Romeo and The Lonely Girl solo is tremendous aswell
Don't believe a Word.
The lyrics in this song are straight up poetry.
Phil's lyrical skill was never fully appreciated. Nobody rendered lyrics with the poesy and narrative flow quite the way Phil did
@@YaoEspirito well Philo will always be appreciated by me and you for sure 😀
Phil was a genuine poet and definitely one of the best lyricists in rock music IMO
@@TheHumbuckerboyabsolutely no doubt!
Phil Lynott is the only person who could rhyme depressed and restless. RIP
I think he rhymed quest with depressed, and rest.... but not depressed and restless (Still a genius line, though).

Black rose album is their absolute finest.RIP boys until we meet again.
Simply sensual, atmosphere galore, less is more, every right note is played, very underrated track, Thin Lizzy rules!!!!
I absolutely agree with you! Sadly there's no live record of this track
As an American my two favorite guitarists ever are Gary Moore and Rory Gallagher! Phil might be the greatest ever front man! So good!
Gary Moore is the reason I love les pauls, and Rory made me buy a strat.
Phil and Gary what more can you ask for? Best Rock and the Blues.

Matching and counting syllables
Creating a layered rhythm with the lyrics written like it was another instrument in tune.
Next time you listen to a song, make the lyrics into a humm and match it to the percussions.
Lyricism is almost as rhythmic as it is melodic. Placement of syllables plays a major part in how vocals flow. This is especially noticeable in rapping, where the rhythm is more important than melody.
B side to "Waitin for an Alibi " love thin Lizzy ☘
Gary's first solo in this song kills me
Gary's solo is so melodic and on the outro he emotes sheer pain in keeping with the tortured lyrics!
Thin Lizzy, one of the all time greatest.
So happy all the thin lizzy videos are getting put onto vevo!!! One of my faves from big Phil
It's mind-blowing for me because as a kid back in the day I never saw them.

There are those who will spend a lifetime of leisure
'Til the leisure finally takes control
And they'll spend their life in search of pleasure
Never knowing the treasure that they own
There are those who will spend a lifetime in hard labor
'Til the labor breaks both body and soul
And they will learn to love their neighbor
And be assured of what they own
